    This was a really great session helping a member of my community fix how dull and dreary their Tarkov looked! The before and after shots were crazy and I hope this helps you figure out what you should be adjusting in your game! Thank you Jigglez for your time and thank you all for your support! :)

    Great stuff. Something to add: SSR will also reflect lighting under trees and bushes, so even with it on low, it will make seeing through them easier. The downside is large bodies of water look horrible on low. So, I highly recommend SSR and increased LOD (low LOD makes bushes blobby closer) on maps like Woods and Shoreline to make spotting enemies much easier.

    Anisotropic per texture is good enough, it is different levels for different textures. On forces all textures to use the higher setting, which can tank frames on maps with a lot of walls and buildings.

    Could you touch on the "legacy scaling" settings for the DSR? I have an older GPU (Nvidia GTX 1660 blower) that runs tarkov decently. I've never messed with the DSR setting but it is currently set to 2.00x legacy scaling and its not uncommon for me to see 85-95% GPU usage with modern games and only 30-40% CPU usage (Part of this is due to build specs and cheaping out on GPU) however I can play VR titles with about 40% usage across both my GPU and CPU. Is the Monitor the cause of the DSR settings and high GPU usage? also do you think an upgrade to a RTX 3070 would operate within my existing specs without issue? Maybe swap from a fan/defuse style CPU cooler for a liquid CPU cooler for ease of mind.

I have to say that changed my life playiong this game and not only Tarkov, I can use this technique in other games looking absolutely awesome! I have a little problem that only appears on Tarkov ( The finals, hell let loose, R6 siege works ok). On tarkov if I hit Alt and Tab and then return to the game, the game backs to the native resolution ( from 4K to 2K) appearing NIS blue text in top left corner. When this happen , I have to hit 2 times Alt plus Tab to restore the resolution. Do you know why this happens only on this game. Thanks a lot , you do an increible work, I love how tarkov looks now and with more stable FPS.

If you achieve and can exceed your desired frame rate and graphical fidelity, the optimal route would be to have your settings at the lowest GPU utilization while still retaining the desired outcome . GPU utilization was normally around 97-98% (which is likely reflex doing its thing). I was thinking on a similar wavelength to you until people with modern hardware (I mean best of the best) were reporting improvements too. HAGS can be important for the smoothness of some apps though, so some people instead resorted to running HAGS with LLM *instead* of reflex for a lighter limitation of the frame buffer that doesn't sync up the GPU and CPU as heavily. Your solution is also a good way as well, it really just depends on what is the best and most consistent latency reduction.

    You can actually see this by going on the big red side of the land bridge on customs and looking across to the pipes you go under to get to RUAF.
    I personally set it to medium bc on low things like puddles can get shimmery and distracting, especially on interchange. Setting it any higher though doesn't look much different visually and there are no further benefits.

    I've been hearing this one a lot, and since you left a comment I thought I would ask you this:
    Do you think the Tarkov experience is akin to gambling or addiction, and why or why not?

    • @klemintime1452
      @klemintime1452  Před 4 měsíci

      Out of the two, definitely more of an addiction. That rush of adrenaline you get on completing a raid and *just* barely getting out is similar to nearly overdosing: your heart rate spikes to unsafe levels and you begin to feint upon hitting the "raid finished" screen.
      That being said, you could argue that it is gambling, but the biggest thing you are gambling on is mental stability and time. In the end, we still come back though, so it is *definitely* an addiction.
      Thanks for commenting, by the way. Means a lot :)

      Similar to the DSR upscaling into DLSS downscaling? You can enable "Virtual Super Resolution" under Gaming - Display - select your main monitor - on off toggle near the top of the list. Then you can set Tarkov to Fullscreen and set your resolution to above native, and that will upscale the game similar to what DSR is doing. Obviously then using FSR 1.0 or FSR 2.2 to downscale if needed. FSR 1.0 will lower GPU usage without adding much blur, FSR2.2 will stabilize stuff like those flickering railings in the video but does add a bit of a blur behind fast moving objects, especially your own optics, grass, and the tops of trees in the wind. I run a 4k monitor with a 7900XTX, have the game upscale to 4224 x something and then downscale using FSR 2.2 Quality personally.

    • @klemintime1452
      @klemintime1452  Před 4 měsíci

      Good question- you still are CPU bound, as nearly all games do not utilize modern CPUs to their fullest extent (i.e 100%), as the amount of cores is simply not feasible to use at the same time for the same tasks. Most APIs / game engines can only use one or a couple cores at a time to actually send draw calls to the GPU, thus eventually causing *those* threads to be the bottlenecking factor (among other CPU pressures in the game).
      With that being said you'll likely see 6-8 threads being used, but only a couple being used heavily and this being the bottleneck. There are other factors to this like the CPU's cache, but that's the TLDR (and I don't want to bore with more text lol).

    • @klemintime1452
      @klemintime1452  Před 4 měsíci +1

      That's essentially because the frame pacing is more consistent- GPU and CPU have relatively equal worktimes on their parts of the frame and so they stay in sync more easily.
      Keeping your GPU somewhat utilized is important, but it not the end of the world. Ideally, you want ~95% GPU usage so that you are just rocking in between CPU and GPU bound. Having your settings low like in your case makes the GPU have to "wait" for your CPU to finish making the next frame to start processing it.
      If you have GPU headroom like Jigglez did here, having some settings up offers you a more balanced experience *and* better visuals, and that's what Im attempting to help show.

      @klemintime1452  Před 4 měsíci

      You can be CPU bound by a single thread (or via cache pressure on the CPU). The CPU does not have to be at 100% usage for it to be the bottleneck.

      @@klemintime1452but did you check each individual thread or did you assume he was cpu bound. Rtss will let you look at it on a per thread basis. I haven't gotten that far in my testing yet tho

      @@rodiculous9464 Without even checking each individual thread, seeing the GPU usage below 100% signifies a CPU-bound scenario as that is what is responsible for delivering the work to the GPU. With his CPU though, I believe it was properly using all 6 physical cores on his CPU, giving him 50% usage in online (IIRC). If not and he isn't getting 100% usage on any core. Its almost certainly a cache/memory bottleneck then, as the cache on the CPU can't swap out things fast enough to keep the workload on the CPU up. Either way, its CPU-related.

      I think it stems from the first time people use task manager and learn 100% usage = bad. Then they figure out what graphics cards are and figure they want both “usage” numbers as low as possible. I have a 1660 and a ryzen 5 and run streets fine with roughly the same settings. Imma try this dlss -un- dlss thing though. That’s interesting.

    (Stupid) QUESTION: Do have someone with lets say: 180fps always an benefit against 50fps? I mean is a higher fps always better?

    • @SuperMickyChow
      @SuperMickyChow Před 4 měsíci

      A 130 fps gap like you give in your example, yes, 180 is always better than 50.
      If it's 180fps vs 150fps there is no advantage

    Ryzen 9 5900x
    3080ti
    32gigs of ram 3600
    And my game runs like crap still. Have been messing with settings alot but streets wont go higher than 60 frames. Most maps do around 90 expect for factory.
    My rig before this had a i5 9600 with a 1070 and i had slightly worse fps than i'm having now. Any tips?

      Check your Nvidia control panel. I had some messed up settings and now I’m running smooth. I have a 3080 ti, Ryzen 9 5950x and 32 gigs and I get a consistent 90-110 frames on every map. Factory and Labs I hit 150-180

      @@aimLined That's... odd. I know this may sound crazy, but i think that number is referring to usage % and not utility %. I know, I know, "tf do I mean usage and not utility" but genuinely those are different stats that can get people confused (including myself, frankly).
      On the bottom left of process lasso, you'll see two stats: "% time" and "% utility". I think the % utility stat will be more in line with what you'd expect to see, as that takes into account the scaling of your processor's frequency while gaming.
      I have a feeling I might be able to use these numbers to figure out more about what's happening with Tarkov's performance, but for now I'm still learning about their differences. Let me know % utility looks more normal (and also let me know your CPU).
