      So, I found how to do it. First open the side panel and then the front glass panel. After that remove the two wifi antennas by unscrewing the 2 screws. Then there are 4 screws that hold the front mesh wrap around. Unscrew and push the whole front bracket down. Then push the top panel forward. Little long to get there but finally got it. Hope this helps someone.

    Great video Jeff. It looks like you just swapped your SSD over from the old motherboard to the new. Is it that simple, or did you just reinstall Windows and start fresh? Any motherboard drivers or anything else needed to have continuity of your system from the old motherboard to the new? Also didn't see anything about a wifi or network card. Is that built-in to the motherboard or something that needs to be swapped over?
    I originally bought a 30L thinking it would be easy to upgrade over time, but the stock motherboard has been a big limiting factor.

    Hi I almost finished installing a ASUS Pime Z590 motherboard into my HP omen 40L and was able fit the Original AIO (With Led) too. But I had to remove some standoffs because there's no mounting holes at the other end of the board (Those standoffs would touch the board)... I made new extension cables for the AIO, One fan, Audio, USB, Power Switch and LED Power (That one goes to the RGB hub). I made sure that all the cables match the Omen ones too (Pin to Pin), and you can't see the plug in connectors because they are hidden behind the side cover, so all looks normal the inside the case..I used the thin straight black Omen fan wires from some HP fans that I bought to make the extension cables look professional... It's still all HP Omen 40l inside except for the motherboard....

  • @anyleftovers
    @anyleftovers Před 2 lety +10

    Personally, I use Asrock Z590m pro to replace my omen motherboard. It has an m.2 slot for wifi similar to omen z490, so you do not have to buy another external wifi, and basically keep everything as it is. I also link my win11 pro license to my Microsoft account and immediately perform a fresh install afterward, and my windows stay activated until this day (Not sure what will happen if you sell the motherboard to someone else).
    Another thing I do want to point out is, do not use XMP if you choose to pair your HP rams with two other rams (only ram upgrade should be your reasoning to upgrade your motherboard, or you should upgrade your case and water cooling first). Enable XMP will result in making your system very unstable and causing constant blue screens. However, manually setting all rams to run at 3200 (and leaving anything else in BOIS as auto) will fix this issue. Have no idea why, and I will be delighted if someone can tell me why. Anyway, if enabling XMP will make your system unstable, this is the way to go. Do not try to put a full-size ATX motherboard into your 30l case. IT WILL NOT FIT! Micro ATX will fit perfectly. Also, please make sure your new motherboard comes with an m.2 slot for your wifi card (not sure whether a normal m.2 slot will work, but I highly doubt that), or be prepared to pay around 50 dollars to get another decent wifi6 expansion card (unless your new motherboard has onboard wifi, but in this case, I am trying to save as much as I can).
    If you also plan to keep your water cooler, you may need to buy another CPU backplate because the one currently on the omen motherboard will never come off (I knew it because I tried). Any LGA 1200/115X CPU Water Block Backplate will do the job and fit perfectly, but the screws on the omen water cooler are indeed a little bit too short, so I have to get another 10mm M3 standoffs to keep my old omen water cooler in place.
    As you may already have found out, it is a hassle to replace Omen's motherboard. In the end, although I feel like my Asrock Z590M Pro4 is just a little bit better than the original z490 (and for some reason, the water cooler produces more noise than before), I am happy that this is all over. If you are not planning to upgrade your ram, please upgrade your case and water cooler first before you even consider replacing your motherboard. In the end, I only get a more noisy desktop with virtually no performance gain.
    I do not speak English as my first language, and I am sure everyone's experience may vary. If you notice any problems, please point them out so I may make a correction.

    Hi, I bought the motherboard and lead extensions through your links, used them to upgrade my GF's stock Omen. I'm pretty well versed in PC building and repair myself, so I just wanted to possibly answer some questions before, or if they've been asked, and let people know a few things if they also go with the board you suggested:
    1. The light bar does work if you plug it in to a USB2 header, so does the omen diamond and fan ring on the front if you leave the Omen SATA card and plug power in to it. However, they only light up white, and I have not found a solution to change the color, but Open RGB is getting better and better all the time, will update if I find a solution. I did not disconnect anything from it except the power when I changed the PSU, left it as it was, and simply reconnected the SATA power. EDIT: OpenRGB does now support the Omen case light control.
    2. You don't have to buy wifi extenders if you run them across the top of the board. Yeah, it's ugly, but the 30L doesn't give you much room for cable management anyway.
    3. In my case, the supplied Omen PSU will not power this board, as it only has a 4 pin ATX connector, the ASRock requires an 8 pin. I don't know if the PSU in every Omen comes with only 4 pin, but the GT13-0024 model does for sure, so you will need an appropriate PSU. I had a few around so I had no issue, but I would recommend going up to at least a 750w.
    4. There is a lone removable screw standoff with 2 positions available under the mobo. You will need to move the standoff to the lower position to make use of all the mounting holes.
    That said, it instantly gained power and performance, excellent recommendation, it saved me from buying a new case, and I had most of the parts I needed around already. The ASRock was an excellent deal at 90$ when I bought it, compared to the other 2 mentioned, and especially compared to the trash HP Moria board. Thanks a lot!

      The windows key is weird sometimes. They are tied to the motherboard and your windows account. Sometimes you can change the motherboard and not need a key. Sometimes you will need a key.

      I’m gonna say something controversial, especially for an IT professional-
      Microsoft consumer phone support is actually insanely good.
      My omen glitched out when trying to buy the upgrade to 10 pro, it threw an enterprise key on my computer but never sent me the pro key in the email (due to buying from the application not the website store).
      The phone support was absolutely top notch. After running through a couple verification hurtles, he was able to quickly identify the issue that happened on their end. A couple tricks from their side later and my computer automatically had the proper key + activation the next time i clicked the activate button.
      *edit* if it gets to that point. Changing hardware is not nearly as painful as it used to be. I had to reinstall windows like 8 times while I was messing with my RAID arrays.

    • @JeffTheITGuy
      @JeffTheITGuy  Před 3 lety +1

      Like a triple slot card. Big as in size not performance. Also I wouldn’t get one with a 3070 or 3080. They have about 10% + less performance than reference

      @@JeffTheITGuy oh i see. I bought omen 30l with ryzen 7 and rtx 2060. I upgraded the cpu cooler and somehow damaged a memory dimm slot. So i bought the corsair 220t case and a gaming mobo, transferred everything and gave it to my girlfriend. I ordered another 30l with intel 10850k and rtx 3070. Now i am reading the i9 in the omen 30l overheatd alot so im proboly going to transfer everything to a new case as well. Do you think the 750w psu can power i9, rtx 3070, and 6 case fans?

      The 3090 wow. That one should already have a decent PSU, Ram and cooler. Only thing you could change really is the crappy fans.

      @@BruceLee-zj5jf yeah. It should have an AIO already, if not then you can upgrade it. The power supply should be a 750W, if not I’d upgrade it to the one in my other video for the HP Omen. You could always add another HDD and a larger NVME drive.

      Yes. The old motherboard is so proprietary in its connections that each cable is only long enough to make it to the connection on the stock motherboard.

    I know this video was posted a while ago, but I'm just now considering changing my 30L mobo. In this video, you mention that the PSU will need to be replaced. Is it still recommended to replace the PSU if my 30L came with the 800W option? Are we replacing the PSU because of power requirements or because of connectivity requirements of a replacement mobo?
