  • Hey guys, I am back with another video! I want to start off and apologize for not being able to show you how to swap the motherboard into the Omen case. Everything in this tutorial applies to swapping in another board in to your Omen though, except for you'll use a MICRO ATX for your swap!
    First off, you will need 2 separate USB sticks that have at least 8GB of storage, copy these items onto them:
    DO THESE STEPS BEFORE YOU INSTALL YOUR NEW MOTHERBOARD, WHILE YOU STILL HAVE A COMPUTER WITH INTERNET ACCESS:
    USB Stick #1:
    Download and install Windows 10 Installation Media:
    www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...
    This USB stick will install windows on to your new motherboard so have this ready to go.
    ( NOTE: YOU CAN USE YOUR OMEN BOOT DRIVE IN YOUR NEW MOTHERBOARD )
    USB Stick #2:
    Google your motherboards applicable driver updates, download, and transfer them to your 2nd USB stick! So for my board:
    www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/...
    And I downloaded these drivers:
    1 ) BIOS
    2 ) Audio
    3 ) WIFI / LAN
    4 ) Chipset
    5 ) Utility
    The main reason you want to have all your driver updates available on a USB stick before you transfer over all your motherboard components is because; occasionally when you first boot up your new board, without having the current WIFI or LAN driver, YOU MAY NOT HAVE INTERNET ACCESS and cannot download the necessary drivers to connect to your network. That is why I highly recommend doing while you have a functioning PC with internet access.
    So after the swap, you'll want to plug in your Windows 10 Installation Media USB stick into one of the boards USB ports BEFORE you boot the computer. Your PC will recognize the USB stick and start to install Windows for you! You'll want to choose the hard-drive that you want Windows to be installed on and I ALWAYS recommend your boot drive be your fastest drive ( M.2 NVME usually ). Finish the install. Or you can select your Omen boot drive and bypass installing Windows.
    At your desktop, your PC might do a few updates by itself, so you may have to restart a few times. After, grab your 2nd USB stick and transfer them to your PC and extract the files. Install ALL drivers.
    Next up is going into your BIOS! For my board, upon restart, hit the DEL key until the BIOS comes up. Let's get your RAM speed correct! Go to:
    1 ) Advanced mode
    2 ) Tweaker Tab
    3 ) XMP profile
    4 ) Set XMP from Disabled to Profile 1
    5 ) Save
    You can take a look at some other settings in while in the BIOS, but none are really "necessary". You can set up a fan curve for all of your system fans but usually, the stock profiles work great but can be changed any time. Save and Exit the BIOS.
    Verify your RAM is running at the proper speed, right click the Windows Start button and hit Task Manager. Go to the Performance tab and select Memory, and confirm that your RAM speed is proper speed.
    Now if you have additional hard-drives, now is the time to set them up! We are going to do this by right clicking the the Windows Start menu and:
    1 ) Clicking Disk Management
    2 ) Clicking OK on the first screen
    3 ) Your Boot drive will show up as a blue bar down below which means it's active and ready to go.
    Any drives with a black bar will need to be setup by:
    1 ) Right click the drive with the black bar
    2 ) Click New Simple Volume
    3 ) Hit OK on all the prompts
    4 ) Choose your hard drive letter: ( A,B,D,E,F etc )
    5 ) Rename your Volume
    6 ) Click OK!
    Your drive should now be BLUE and all drives are ready to go! Go ahead and close your disk management when all your drives are setup, and we are now going to make sure your monitor refresh rate is setup:
    1 ) Windows Settings:
    2 ) System
    3 ) Display
    4 ) Scroll Down and click "Advanced Display Settings"
    5 ) Choose your monitor from the drop down menu at the top
    6 ) Under the Refresh rate tab, choose the highest possible refresh rate available ( Mine is 144hz )
    7 ) The Screen will flash and it'll ask you if you want to Keep these settings, click YES
    After this, I would highly recommend downloading your graphics card drivers from Google ( Google your GPU name + driver update, so mine is "RX5700 Driver update" ), and install the software needed for your GPU and update the driver.
    Other than all of this, you are now DONE WITH YOUR BUILD! Now you just have to install all of the programs that you use ( or transfer them over from an existing backup you have ).

      Most of the newer Omens have been under-volted to stay much cooler. Even if it does run a bit warm, the temps are usually pretty safe. Do you know if the PC comes water cooled or air cooled?

      That’s not necessarily true. It depends on what processor the Omen comes with and usually the 10700K’s, had a 120mm AIO, so I’m not sure if the 11700 does as well. I would monitor your temps and see where you’re at, but usually they run in the 70-78c range, which is completely safe.

    Hey guys! Thank you for watching the videos and your support! Once again, I am sorry that this tutorial is not for swapping a new board into the Omen case, but everything in the tutorial applies to swapping a new board into the Omen, only thing is you'll be using a Micro ATX board! PLEASE SEE THE DESCRIPTION AS I HAVE OUTLINED THE WHOLE PROCEDURE THERE!
    Here are the links for everything I used:
    Amazon Affiliate Links ( Helps support the channel! ):
    AORUS Elite X570 Motherboard:
    amzn.to/3yu7Kjm ( AMD CPU )
    Crucial Ballistix RAM:
    amzn.to/3ytFw87 ( x2 for 32GB )
    Antech PSU Extensions:

    WD Blue 2.5" SSD:
    amzn.to/3yvw0kX ( 2TB )
    WD Black m.2 NVME drive:
    amzn.to/3c0yONF ( 1TB )
    Thermal Grizzly Thermal Paste Spatula:
    amzn.to/3f6sjL6 ( 3 Pack )
    As far as results go: If you saw my case swap video where I transferred the Omen motherboard over, my temperatures pretty much stayed the same. My CPU temps at idle are anywhere from 30-40c, gaming temps between 45-60c and render temps are 70-78c. My GPU stays around 55-65c while gaming as well! The big improvements I found are with my 3600mhz RAM and using an SSD for my "backup drive". Editing videos is MUCH quicker and the PC feels more responsive. It's also really nice to use the BIOS to OC and make completely custom fan curves ( FOR EACH FAN HEADER!! ). Really happy with the results and I think the builds looks fantastic! Hey Dan! I have been watching all of your videos and love your channel! At this point, I think you have talked me into buying a 25L I found a good deal on with 64GB Ram, i9 10900, RTX3070, and 2TB m.2. That said, your videos have shown me that I will probably need to upgrade the case and cooler and I have factored that into the price and it still makes sense over a NZXT pre-built performance wise. I also have a 750W Gold I can swap out if need be. My question is this, if you were starting over, would you just have bought a NZXT pre-built for a couple hundred more? Also, what big benefit do you get out of swapping this mobo? I am a bit of a noob and don't quite understand what the big benefit it between the Omen board and a different board aside from a bit more customization in the bios. Can you elaborate? Thanks!!

    • @DanKamYouKnow
      @DanKamYouKnow  Před 2 lety

      Omen motherboards are very limited as far as settings adjustments goes. Including power options / XMP ( memory speeds for aftermarket RAM ) / Overclocking & under-volting / BIOS adjustments which include SO many different settings / fan curves and adjustments / RGB headers ( Omen has NONE ) / More m2 slots for storage depending upon the board. If the pricing is better on the NZXT model, then I would probably go for that one. It will have better thermals and they probably don't have restrictions on the motherboard, but that I am not 100% sure. OR you could go with the Omen and eventually do a case swap, which would dramatically lower temps. Hope this helps

      Hey!! Yes, that should work out just fine. Just make sure whatever case you are thinking of going with is compatible with the motherboard and cooler you are looking at. Some cases only support Micro ATX, so it won’t fit a Standard ATX case and some cases only support 240mm radiators, so a 280mm won’t fit.
      It is definitely possible and very similar so what I did. As long as you make sure there are no conflicts between parts, should work out just great! 👍🏻

    • @EVMANVSGAS
      @EVMANVSGAS Před 2 lety

      @@DanKamYouKnow I realize that. I have seen in most benchmarks that once you are at 3200 it doesn't make much difference to go a little faster and I'd hate to see people waste their money, especially if they have nothing to do with the existing ram they are taking out. I was wondering if your case showed worthwhile improvement as in how much faster you can render videos and such. I mean if you already have 32GB of 3200 is it worth the extra $150 just to upgrade to 3600 in case people think that is the thing to do. I don't think there is a ROI for such an upgrade. Of course the placebo effect kicks in and it feels faster, but then again you dumped an old rotational drive at the same time and I'd bet that was the most of your newfound snappiness. I personally have downclocked my 3600 to 3200 and other than synthetic benchmarking in aida64 showing MB?s speed difference in the real world I didn't notice much at all. Of course the CAS latency makes as much of a difference as the higher Mhz as in if you go from CL16 ram at 3200 and switch to CL18 ram at 3600 which a lot of it is you wont see any difference as they play off from each other.
      I really do like your videos though don't take this as being critical I was just wondering if you had any use case data that would support someone spending another $150 just to say you are running faster RAM, not that I haven't done this in the past myself :)

    • @DanKamYouKnow
      @DanKamYouKnow  Před 2 lety

      There are a TON of benefits to switching to a different motherboard: Higher RAM speeds ( Most boards support 4,000+ ) / Individual fan curves per fan header / RGB headers / USB headers / Type C headers / BIOS adjustments / Overclocking, precision boost over-drive, and core frequency adjustments / multiple m.2 slots depending on the board / multiple PCIe slots depending on the board / Improved chipset cooling / More IO ports on the back / m2 heat sink(s) / 8 or 12 pin EPS connectors for CPU because HP Omen motherboards cap CPU wattage to 65w ( 4 pin ) and aftermarket boards do not have a cap / etc.
      The video was more of just a tutorial on how to do it and I'm not really sure that I mention that running faster RAM is the only reason to swap motherboards. I do not have any case data on the different RAM speeds but there are a number of good reasons to swap to a new motherboard. Plus, installing NON HP RAM in an Omen causes the latency to be VERY high. My 32GB of 3200mhz RAM in the Omen ran at like CL22 ( So bad ), but now my 3,600 mhz RAM runs at CL16 so it will definitely be faster

    hey Dan, I bought a 25L omen gaming PC earlier this year and I've come across the problem that its cooling capabilities are garbage. it came with a Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 and I noticed yours is obviously not that. I was wondering what kind of GPU could I upgrade too that maybe has an inbuilt fan or just can generally process the same level of graphics at a lower temperature and how much that could work or if you recommend I completely change the case like you did in order for more airflow. I really want to be able to play Mount and Blade Bannerlord, but at the moment, even with 2 added 120mm fans, one on bottom and one on top, it still runs upwards of 72-75 for both cpu and gpu on literally the lowest graphics. If I go from "very low" to just "low" the GPU temps easily and consistently sit over 80 maxing out at 84 (temps are all in Celsius). I have the specs for my PC and would love to share with you.

    • @DanKamYouKnow
      @DanKamYouKnow  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Michael! Well, there are a few things you can do. You can use MSI Afterburner to set a custom fan curve for your GPU fan on your 2060. This will result in more noise form the GPU fan but lower temps down a bit. I dropped my temps by 5-10c on the GPU with settings a custom fan curve.
      You could upgrade the GPU but the graphics card market right now is absolutely horrible. Finding ANY graphics card at a decent price is almost impossible.
      I would try MSI Afterburner first and see how it works for you:
      czcams.com/video/X5xuJCt7vf0/video.html
      Your fan curve WILL look different than mine because your GPU is different. Experiment with the curve and what works best for you.

    Another great video Dan! Hey, I got an Intel i5 11400 CPU in my Omen 25L. Although the CPU comes with integrated graphic, HP did another dumb thing - the motherboard has no HDMI port as a secondary display. I use a smaller monitor to display instrument panels when flying in MSFS 2020. However, FPS will take a huge hit if the secondary display is connected to the GPU as well. I suppose if I do a similar swap using a motherboard with a HDMI port, I will be able to take advantage of the integrated graphic from the CPU for the second monitor. According to gamers, this setup will not hurt FPS for the game in the main monitor. Am I on the right track?

    • @DanKamYouKnow
      @DanKamYouKnow  Před 2 lety +1

      @@DanKamYouKnow My second monitor is a small touch display set up as glass cockpit. When I pop up the MFD and PFD (right ALT key + a click) and move the window to the second monitor, FPS usually drops by 10-15. I heard it is due to bad game architecture which should be fixed in future releases. There is no reason why the pop-ups should degrade the performance by so much. The work-around right now is to use iGPU driven displays. You can search "MSFS | Fix FPS Loss on Pop Out Screens" for a CZcams video on this topic. :)

      Some motherboards have a BIOS Flashback option which allows you to update the BIOS without a CPU installed, which is done with a FAT32 format flash drive with a USB port on the back. I would HIGHLY recommend updating all motherboard drivers / BIOS which can be found on the motherboards manufacturers website.

    Weird question, have you seen any improvements in gaming, like FPS and such, since I saw people with the exact same build and settings on certain games, getting somewhere to 100+ more FPS, also are the RAMs usable on another motherboard, I got the stock 16gb x 2 Hyperx Fury, saw some people saying they may not work on other motherboards 😐.

    • @DanKamYouKnow
      @DanKamYouKnow  Před rokem

      Well, Omen motherboard do limit some power so you might see some gains when switching motherboards. It mainly opens you up to WAY more settings adjustments with the BIOS. Like overclocking / fan curves / XMP / Voltage changes / etc. The FPS you’ll be getting really depends on the CPU / GPU.
