    good video, just be careful how u tap birch trees, the technique shown here could leave the tree open to infection and compromise it. always make sure you seal what you open. Cool video though

  • @deanrose2384
    @deanrose2384 Před 8 lety +28

    Great video mate very informative. I've never heard any youtuber talk so street in the forest haha.
    Couple of things I would like to add to this for the watcher/reader is that a lot of vitamins, especially vitamin C are destroyed at 70 C. So it is best to boil the water first to sterilise it then allow it to cool until it is just hot enough that you can hold your finger in without scalding it. Then steep the plant material to absorb the nutrients in the water.
    Also, I personally wouldn't have done that much damage to the Birch to extract its sap. A small hole would suffice, no need to scrape the bark off. Then plug the hole afterward with de-barked clean wood to prevent the tree from getting infected.
    Other than that, good stuff. Hope you don't mind if I share this on my facebook group the FREE FOOD FORUM. It has nearly 6000 members and is all about foraging wild food. Please feel free to check it out and join up folks!! You would make a valuable contributor Alfie. Peace brah.

    • @thorlaug
      @thorlaug Před 6 lety +1

      This was your defense? "they do it too" smh there's no kidding about the childishness. If you were a grown-up I'd give you links to studies that demonstrate the difference in gender behavior online but since that's just gonna fly over your head I'm gonna let "I'm sure you have" be my answer.
      Hostility online is the trait of two groups mainly: young boys that don't know any better and sociopathic men that actually inflict violence on others in real life. I'm hoping you belong to the first group for the sake of the people around you.

    • @dalecarpenter8359
      @dalecarpenter8359 Před 6 lety +3

      Thorlaug Borg Agustsdottir
      What makes you think that was a defence?
      That is an observation that demonstrate your hypocrisy . But your statement comes from thinking that you are treated differently because you're a woman .
      Women take indifference ( you want a man to act different when a lady is present ) for discrimination !or some other shit they can cry about .
      Women are the ones that need to grow up and live in the adult world !

    Hey Alfie, not sure if you knew, but Birch Bark also contains salazine just to a lesser degree than Willow Bark does. Good in a pinch if you're struggling to find willow.
    Meadowsweet Tea is also another good one to add to your list. The flowers have a nice honey smell and flavour and while ingesting the tea it carries the same effect as paracetamol as well as being an anti-inflammatory for those with upset stomachs. The leaves on the other hand smell like savlon or anti-septics and taste like you'd imagine too.. Best leave the leaves out (geddit?) if you dont want your tea tasting like the floor of a dentists office.
    The great thing about this plant is its pretty easy to identify and grows in LARGE clusters around fields and of course, Meadows!
    The root can also be chewed much to the same effect if you don't want to waste water making a brew.

    Addition to the chamomile, I understand it's also a natural sleep aid. Also, ginger, I find it helps as a mild energizer (may be stronger for others, my body is resistant or immune to many things including sedatives and E. Coli), is known for many nutrients and vitamins, and helps with at least a few diseases, and upset stomach. You can find ginger sold whole in stores, or added in ginger candies, ginger brew/beer/ale from brands like Reed's, Cock 'N Bull, or my favorite because it's the strongest I had, Ginger People, but also the hardest for me to find.

    great video, I've always been interested in natural remedies, and just getting info from good old you tube, but can anyone recommend any good books as a good place to start learning about the different herbs etc and how to make remedies?
