Petition for him to do these series more often!!
Love the ten in ten hope shed Sundays or something similar comes back as note is on late afternoon on Sundays
Btw mike I love your videos been watching for a while and bushcraft is now my life
Sorry, Cade, but it was 12 out of ten and a really nifty kit bag too :) .
Thank you so much!
In the army we learn to use red lights all the time. It's much less noticeable at night as red light is a wide wave in the light spectrum thus doesn't travel as far as blue or white light. Also, it doesn't make you lose your eye's dark adaptation as much as white light. If you have a red light mode on your headlamp use that if you're being stealthy. I use a Petzl Tactikka headlamp it has both white and red mode.
When I was in the army we didn't use red light we used to put electrical tape over the lens and put a pin prick in it and that was enough light to read a map or do basic tasks and not affect your night vision
can recommend the manker eoh3
has white, red and green filters and also moonlight modes
Fantastic tip, I must try this. I always leave it till I absolutely have to turn a light source on so as not to upset my night vision but this sounds like a great alternative. I stupidly thought the red light was just for attaching to rear of a bike. Cheers, Andy
@@waymarkerbushcraft if you want to preserve night vision for a short period of time, close your dominant eye before you turn the light on. Keep it closed until you turn the light off. You can try this at night on the way to your bathroom. You’ll be amazed at the difference
You've brought back too many memories I didn't want to remember lol
Melting paracord was an excellent tip for tarp rips - thanks Mike 👍
Regarding stealth, if you're hunting or fishing at night and only worried about animals seeing you, cover your light source with a bit of red plastic or the like. Red light doesn't throw shadows easily, nocturnal predators aren't bothered by it and it reflects brightly from eyes, making animals easy to spot; this method is used in hunting alligators at night, for example.
I like these "ten in ten" style videos Mike, they are a good match to your longer, more in depth and entertaining videos. There's a good reason you are so close to hitting 2 million!
Cheers Sean!
Hey Mike can we be Friends
And no annoying music blaring in the background either👍👍👍
2:00 I always take steel wool. It can light a fire with a battery, burns way hotter, is good for cleaning the cooking pot, and acts like a mesh for a water filter
You just leave you pots out and critters clean then up.

Cat tails are amazing in the spring the green "cobs" can be roasted and eaten, in the fall the cobs fluff can be used for tinder ( as you mention), as bedding/insulation, packing materials, absorbents, or just used as a torch on the stalks. The root tubers can be eaten. The pollen can be used for a flour substitute. Plus the stalks can be used for shelter construction or broken down into a hemp like material for braiding/cordage. There's a bunch of other ways to utilize the different parts... just some of the stuff off top of my head I remembered.
Instead of cutting the chewing gum wrapper, just give it a full twist 🔀 it will still work and gives you a little more fuel for the short time.
are you serious?! pack a lighter and don't be stupid
You dont need to use ur socks 😅 just take ur shirt man
@@bleiblocker4226 what colour shirt?

To carry duct tape, cut a flat piece from the side of a plastic milk carton. About 3”X5” is a good size, but modify to fit your needs. Wrap several or more yards of tape around it. Double over the end 1/8” so it’s easier to remove.

I do this with Bic lighters. I found out last winter that it also makes it easier to grip in the cold.
Some great tips, I especially liked the tarp mending bits.
Few other CZcams 'stars' do this kind of video. Yours are well-paced; well-filmed, and they are fascinating to learn from.
you should watch alfieaesthetics
Melted Paracord to repair your tarp is absolutely brilliant. This is why we have the interwebs.
So simple.... I'm blown away at the knowledge I've never even considered this quick fix.
Picks up a random rock to sharpen his hook, and it's top of the line, American quality chert. I wish it were as prominent here as it is for you.
Ten in ten. Finally someone who can organize and expedite their info.
Great tips! But in bear country, definitely don't use chewing gum, as it will attract them. Also, while it's true that some varieties of pine trees can be consumed for medicinal and nutritional purposes, some varieties of pine are toxic, and should not be consumed in any form.
I never get tired of lookin at that bag.
Me neither! Hopefully more on the site soon. Just have a few shows to go to with them first.
I never just look at my bags. They eventually get bumped.
Le sac est tout simplement superbe!!! One day it will be mine oh yes one day it will be mine lol
That's what she said.
@@Motsognir9791 Goddamnit fell for that one. 😂
What is a corkscrew good for in survival situation? Survival is impossible without wine.
Touché!!
Curing Constipation 💩 insert twist pull.
To the pain in superior part of barriga, caress in that zone like a cercle very sweet 2 seconds 1 cercle, salts of fruits, and for to calm, Maria Luisa. (infusions of herbes). Your Wellcome!!!!

The cattail is known as the supermarket of the swamp with all it supplies to survival. I've even made pancakes with the pollen. Good video.
cattail pancakes? how did you make them?
10 minutes could save your life👍
Another way to fix a hole in tarp is pine resin. Very nice video - thanks.
Rule #1: Install Frostfall + Campfire instead of ‘Survival Mode.’
- Eat warm soups
- Wear fur armour
- Find/make fires
- Use a torch
- Find camp/shelter
- Stay out of frigid water
@Mitch Conners no, it's from fall guys
This mod is called OUTSIDE
The trick with the foil and battery can be made easier to use by adding a strip of non conducting paper or thin cardboard under the foil onto the battery contact . That way you can hold it in place under the tinder material and then with the other hand gently pull the paper out , making the electrical contact .
I love watching these before an outting. Gives me loads of ideas to practice on day trips.
He's like if Daniel Boone and MacGuyver had a baby.
Perfect description! 😄
😂 😂 😂
Great vid!
On a side note though: if your light/lamp uses lithium battery (18650, 21700, 16340, CR123A, etc) instead of AA or AAA battery. DO NOT do the battery fire trick. Lithium cells tend to discharge at extremely high amp when shorted (some batteries 35A or even higher), doing this trick with lithium will likely lead to instant explosion, severe burns, and extremely toxic gas emission.
There's no way a bubble gum wrapper could take 35A even for a second, it will ignite or burn through. Second, I've conducted many tests on unprotected 18650 cells, I could not make them explode with short circuiting them (or even puncturing). The 18650 cells would only get hot after a while and at most let out minor smoke. The method shown in this video is safe, no worries.
I don't think a gum wrapper offers resistance necessary to reach that high amperage.
Great video! I love that you get right to the point and don’t waste our time with bs. Thank you much!!
Also for the battery fire thing don’t make that a main source for making fires if you plan on using the batteries because you are shorting the battery out and that ruins the battery
A fun addition to a great series. I definitely learned some things. Be sure to continue the series.
Will do 👍🏻
Kudos to you Mike for showing this kind of video. It really helps to many 👍🇵🇭
Cheers! 👍🏻

You're the Man 👍👍🍻🍻
I love this video! I’ve been getting interested in survival and bushcraft and started packing a survival backpack. It’s not that good though. I was very happy to see the Scots Pine in the video. I researched this tree for a science project and now it’s one of my favorite trees. Keep up the great work!
Wax paper also works as a good diffuser for flashlights and lamps. We would use this when hunting for nightcrawlers after it rained.
These are BOSS level tips, thanks mate
Paracord Tarp repair was a corker! Sometimes, we can't see the wood for the trees. Glad I got shown that. Thank you good sir 👍
... these 10 in 10 video's are good information .. tips and know how video's can help in a bad situation and even save lives .... once learned , will generally not be forgotten ...
A small sidenote for the pine tea, some are indeed very rich in vitamins and very good for you but others can cause a bad case of the runs and some are even toxic to the point of high fevers.
As with most things in life, dosage is key and they're not an immediate sentence but if you're not sure, start of small.
A note of guidance
The authors of so many camping writers are a God send of helpful solutions available for you for a plethora of needs. The accuracy of the actual advice offered is where the in actual value may be found and inadvertant harm can be avoided. Use care in tips to be sure you remember to share accurately for those reading these tips, telling enough, without using excessive words. Hope this helps. What a great bunch of tips again.
Love this series keep up the great work!😁
If you bruise the needles you’ll find you get a lot more, get video, thanks for steadfast diligence to remind us of these techniques, and new information
Another outstanding clip Mike. Your info is a constant source of amazement. As I am in Australia, I like that these skills can apply no matter where you are in the world. Keep up the good work. 😀
True. Are you allowed to have a bushcraft knife in Australia?
Yeah, until you have to find a birch or hazel tree lol. Aussie here too.
This Canadian 🇨🇦 agrees!
And this is why you have 2M subs. Well done and thank you!
After this video I just had to subscribe... Love TAF and I am starting to love your channel too. Very enjoyable and useful content which has improved so much from your first vids. Well done and hope you will get to 2M soon!

You never know when you'll need these tips. Thanks for posting!!😊
next time you have been really stupid and got lost in the wilderness , which is virtually impossible in this day and age .
@@brain8484 Who's talking about getting lost in the woods? I can use the tip about getting holes in tarps and I'm not talking about ones I use in the woods smartass.
Probably when they👹 shut the power grid down and the dollar fails 🤔

Man! Scots Pines are native trees here in Ireland and I have a deep fondness for them. I never knew of their botanical attributes. Straight down to the woods tomorrow for a brew, this is brilliant news!
those first ones, the melted paracord and the foil fire lighter are brilliant. Thanks for sharing
this was actually sensible and useful, compared to a usuall suvival tips video on youtube.
Thanks for your time and knowledge!
Thanks
Love the 10 in 10 , Quick and informative !
Great tips man! I'll definitely be incorporating some of these
Thanks, great video! I looked up a bit more on the pine needle tea and will give that a go on my next Pine Barrens camping trip. Cheers from New Jersey!
Thanks for the tips, will TOTALLY remember these when I inevitably find myself lost in the middle of nowhere 😁
Love the waxed cotton ground cover.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us (as well as the 2 extra tips as a bonus)!
No probs!
Great video! All those were very useful and insightful. You do a great job keeping it simple and with your demonstrations! Thanks
I had a giggle with that moss tip. Awesome video, that tarp fix was really useful. 💯❤👍
The other tree related one I would like to share is you can do all the same things with most if not all cedar species as the pines. The one thing to avoid is too much of this drink in either case though. It can cause diarrhea if had more often than every 3 days or so. I guess it can be a laxative then if you really need it too.
On a long river canoeing trip, some bottom rivets popped off from hitting rocks. We chewed gum, pressed it into the holes, then heated them with a lighter. Those repairs held for the rest of the trip.
Great tips! Some i knew, some i didn't. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you , Mike .
Love this series

(my little survival tip) PLASTIC PENCIL SHARPENER.
You can use it on a pencil you take to make tinder thin wood.
Or try it out on wood you whittled down with a penknife.
A plastic pencil sharpener.... Cos. Well... A LOT lighter than a metal pencil sharpener.
Those thin pencil sharpenings light really well.
Perfect show
Thanks!! Great job!
Love these tips, keep them coming
Will do!
