Nice of BYD for answering 3 of the most obvious questions right on the back of the car: 'What does BYD stand for?', 'Is it an EV?', and 'How quickly can it accelerate?' Convenient!
Except the founder of the company said in an interview that he was looking for a name for his company, and all of his ideas were taken by other companies so he just went with random letters😂😂 hence BYD

China probably paid a lot of money to “sponsor” this crap. Made in China is trash.
the 0 to 60 for power is genius, perfectly clear, and very specific, also perfectly comparable, ignores the big car with big engine is still just slow problem too.
The all-new BYD Han was priced in China from 230,000 yuan ($32,325) to 280,000 yuan ($39,350)

As someone from Europe i'm always glad when Doug reviews Cars that are common here but not sold in the US (Peugeot, Citroen, Renault, Seat, Skoda etc etc)
So it's also nice to see him reviewing Cars not common in the US & Europe like this one!
Also hoping to see Doug visit Europe someday to review a lot of Cars he can't get his Hands on in the US.
Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps
Fun fact - he never reviewed Skoda.
I don't remember one and CZcams also shows nothing about them.
Another fun fact: The BYD Han actually IS sold in Europe now. Even in Germany, which really surprises me...
I watch Carwow and Auto Trader quite a bit, and yeah every time they have something like from Cupra on there I get sad. Not having access to something makes it seem special, ya know?
I already saw a few BYDs in Germany
@@m-a-l-3000 and i hope they never get any traction in europe
Some correction:
1. BYD does make ICE cars. Although they are phasing pure-gas cars out, they still offer a lot of hybrid cars.
2. In fact the Han itself has a hybrid version, that's why there's no storage area in the engine bay. It uses a series-hybrid system, where the engine turns a generator to recharge the battery instead of driving the wheels directly.
in Uruguay there are tons of BYD cars and they are mostly ICE or hybrid
Gas also has 3 letters…
You could’ve just said that… 😂
@@brandonleesanders gas is a specifically north american term; it seems most folks have standardized on “electric” vs “ICE” as opposed to saying gas, petrol, diesel, etc…

I am astonished to see Doug compared this car with BMW 5 and E-class. I mean in China, BMW 5 or E classs is almost 50 % more expensive than BYD Han!
Because Made in Germany (or at least designed there) commands a premium. Just like Made in China commands a discount.
I think BYD did a good job making an EV look like a normal car instead of other EVs where they typically have ridiculous design elements. Quite frankly looks kind of like a Ford Fusion
Took me a minute to realize you mean the US Fusion (which is called Mondeo here). Our Fusion is a nasty MPV. But yes, the Han does look pretty decent, and I always like to see companies making sedans rather than more SUVs.

Also, I found it funny that Doug closed the door with the key still inside and the lady's voice came on. Who is she talking to? Maybe have the horn sound a specific sequence to let the driver know the key is still in the car? Or sent a text to the phone the car is connected to?
The mic is wireless so you can definitely use it in the back...

Just wanted to add something. BYD actually does sell ICE vehicles. The Han also has hybrids versions, but the electric version is their best selling pure electric passenger vehicle.

Biggest issue is politics. No EV tax credit for a Chinese car like this. If anything there’d be a massive tariff
The exterior styling, to me, is a highlight of this car. Too many times these days a car company will try a "look at me!!" approach that just comes off as weird and garish. Sharp lines for no real reason, a front end that looks like it's been in an accident, and so on. The styling here is subtle, and I like it.
Oh yeah chinese ford taurus will definatelly win car of the year for it's styling. Also I love how model 3 accel is 5, but this car is 8, even though theyre both ev's with shitty performance. "i can hear road noise and the build is cheap plastics, yep thats a 7 on quality and comfort" so far this whole video looks like a fat bag for doug and a plug for BYD. All of the negatives are like "oh the build quality is cheap plastic, BUT THATS BECAUSE THE CHINESE HAVE CHAUFFEURS." yeah not because the car is a shitbox with as many cheap "look at me" features as possible. I never though doug would disappoint me so roughly. 80k for this lemon is robbery. Anything above 35k from the dealer is already too much. 30k and you have a nice luxury camry, thats the only thing this car is good for.

A few important things Doug did not mention: BYD is a battery company. It has virtually no experience in car-making. However, it's "blade battery" is said to be the safest in the industry, and BYD can make EVs at a lower cost than any potential competitors because it produces its own batteries, the most expensive component of an EV. Pretty cool as long as they don't get rid of the top window icon it be cool if the flip around camera could record behind or around you, I guess it is nice though you could take a picture with someone... I like the way it's different it gives it a certain charm
I hope that the Chinese brands (like BYD, XPeng, and Nio) can make it into the US market. This is basically the only video I’ve seen about BYD, and I’ve seen European CZcamsrs making videos about cars by XPeng and Nio. Also the screen in the BYD seems a lot like it runs Android.
There is a lot of bias against any Chinese brand in the US. From electronics to phones to cars. Sad - but true. TCL might be the only exception.
The Han is already available in certain European countries. This includes Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
I think we should get the Han (as well as the Tang) in the UK and more European countries.
It won’t because BYD does not have a plan to produce right hand drive Han and Tang of the current generation, they are based on old Plattform, but the BYD Seal will have a RHD version for certain market and probably includes the UK.
@@imwsss726 It’s good BYD will make a RHD sedan and one with a dual motor AWD setup, but that’s smaller than the Han.
I am also hopeful that BYD will make an EV SUV with a dual motor AWD setup for RHD markets such as the UK and Australia.
@@DaveDVideoMaker Seal isn’t much smaller than Han in turns of space, and the rear seats can be folded - which Han can’t. With the new platform and CTB structure, it has better vertical space than Han EV either. The SUV version of the Seal are already spotted test driving in China, and I think it will go globally either.
@@imwsss726 We have the Atto 3 in the UK already, but I think we should get an AWD BYD EV SUV on our shores.
Plus, there are so many cars that I wish would be offered in the UK or Europe. I do realise that those markets may not be suitable or profitable enough for those products, but that doesn’t stop me from dreaming.
Wait, I found the BYD Seal is gonna be offered in Malaysia in Q4 2023, and Malaysia is a RHD market.
The Seal is currently under consideration for Europe. Hopefully they'll confirm it for Europe, including the UK.
EDIT: it's coming to the UK later this year!
I've test drive this and the Tan. They're pretty fast and the interior is really nice. I was surprised by it. Here in Brazil they're selling pretty well because it's a nice price point for a Ev.
Is it available for Chinese brands: Li, Xpeng or Nio in your country? They are also popular in China and some of the car models are pretty unique such as Nio offers car models with swappable battery.
The new BYD Han Fireball! NOTHING goes up in flames faster than a BYD!

I have to point out that this BYD Han is the old version. The new one has a much improved interior, especially back seats. Better software, and much better front seats as well.
Even for an old version this one looks way better than 90% of new luxurious cars these days. No stupid design choices like being extremely overdesigned, most of the materials are top notch, great feautres and inf. system, you name it.

Chinese cars are truly underrated and great compared to old fart OEMs of US and EU.
23:36 whaaat? A Jaguar on a tow truck! Never would’ve imagined 😂
It's also an XJ, LOL
21:08 BYD used to make (and probably still makes) cheap combustion engine cars. They got the motors (and I guess the gears as well) from Japan and assembled them in their cars like BYD F3 in 2008.
Edit : for clarification, after doing some research, I found out that BYD completely switched to selling only EV cars in most markets, yet they still sell normal gasoline cars (BYD F3 & L3) in select markets like Egypt.
They're passing off plug in hybrids as EV's. BYD still makes a ton of cars with ICE engines in them.
That’s what I was thinking they make good cheap cars so maybe they could do a sub $30k byd car. They make commercial trucks in the us already so I don’t know but I’d be easy to bring their cars.
@@copse04 BYD's PHEVs are amongst the most sophisticated and efficient PHEVs in the industry, and top versions can go over 100 miles in pure electric mode. It is true they are not pure BEVs, but they are also more advanced than most PHEVs sold by western carmakers.
id buy this car.
BYD make this available to purchase in the u.s. !
The more I watch this video, the more I start to think that the Chinese are actually hilarious people who love music and partying LOL
I've always thought that the stereotype of Chinese products being poor in quality is driven by their customers. If a US, and other, companies go to a Chinese manufacturer and say I want you to build this for me and I'm going to warranty it for one year, they say Yes... we can do that. If you wanted them to build something that could be warrantied for 10 years, they could probably do that as well. It wouldn't be as inexpensive, which is why US companies turn to China for manufacturing in the first place.
What you said is so true. When people whine about the quality of Chinese made products, 99% of 'em fail to realize manufacturers only produce products according to specifications of order sheets, nothing more nothing less. Its the greedy entrepreneurs that decide bringing in unreliable products into the States.
Exactly, well said.
The reason western companies turn to shins is slave labor and no moral.
I think that stems more from the Chinese "knock-off" products that they are notorious for producing. I mean people are more than happy to purchase quality products like iPhones that are, yes, made in China, but they'll laugh at the cheap iPhone knock-off made by some counterfeit operation in China!
👍Agreed. Just look at the importers, Walmart and Target definitely get different stuff from China. And there’s Apple.
the 0-60 time is amazing invention lol. I laughed hard, but its actually a very smart idea. I give it a thumbs up.
The air purifier is actually a good idea.

This car is so hot right now, it’s literally on fire all over China. Also has a cool quirk where the airbags don’t go off in the event of a crash so you don’t need to replace them. That’s if the car isn’t written off.

BYD is going to get really big in South America in the coming years, they're bringing the first actually affordable electric car down here at less than half the price of the current cheapest electric. By the way, this car is going to be a small 4 door hatchback, something the US has less and less of each year, but it's the most popular type of car in countries like Brasil.
