- This video is goes over how to disassemble a gm squarebody tilt steering column and tilt steering wheel. This is my first time doing it so I'm partially learning as I go but we can learn together. If you have a 1970's, 1980's or 1990's Chevy or GMC square body truck this disassembly tutorial will work for you. This is a tilt steering column from a 1986 Chevy Suburban which is going into my 1982 Chevy K5 Blazer. If you are looking to do a steering column swap on your squarebody. This video gives you a basic how to as well as some of the tools you need. Many tilt steering wheels get loose over time and part of this video goes over how to fix sloppy tilt in a steering column. You can do this process either installed in your vehicle or removed, This video is part 1 in a series on how to disassemble, clean, reassemble and install a squarebody tilt steering column. Will link those videos when I finish editing them. Hope this helps!

Thanks, bro.
The more people show me how they did it, the easier it is for me to do mine.
It can seem daunting but, for the most part, just doing it is pretty easy to figure out. This was the first time for me and I just wanted to help others figure it out with me
thanks for documenting this... I've done dozens of columns - and each seem to have their own puzzler. Love seeing your take on this
Good video ! Had a chuckle when you paid up for the pin removal tool when a couple of #8 screws would do the same thing for about 30 cents !!!
Bad@$$ man, Been around squares for most of my adult life so you have helped a lot of folks i learned along time ago but you have hit the nail on the head and its great to see such a great video
Thanks, this was really helpful. Needed to get the steering shaft out of the column on my 81 Camaro for electric power steering conversion.
Glad I could help!
Thank you my guy.
Bad ass vise
Hello how are you? I'm from Brazil! My Opal (GM of Brazil), has the same steering column, and your video will help me a lot! Thank you very much!
So glad I was able to help! Nice to hear from our Brazilian friends!
Just so you know if you ever lose some ball bearings, they are 5/32” I just ordered some for my rebuild, I’ll be watching your video, awesome step by step
I’m glad I could help! I finally got it installed and have that video coming out next week
Where did you order ball bearings from, can you order them already in the housing, I think my housing is bad
Dang it! I want to change my setup to electric and rid myself of the P/S pump, but I need to place the electric module inside the cab, and it looks way more complicated than I thought :(.
I got the pivot pins out on my g body Cutlass by running in self tapping screws and prying them out with 2 wrenches only because someone stripped them out before me saved me some heart ache otherwise use the tool
My 84 c10 has whipers on the steering column and not the dash and I also have powered windows. And I've seen 86 c10s with manual windows so I just think it depends in what package you got for your truck back in the day when they came out.
I put a wiper bypass one stroke on the floor
Great video! I'm currently putting a 1983 back together and can't figure out how that actuator rod goes back, do you have any advice?
It depends which actuator rod you’re talking about. There’s a detailed pdf on the crankshaft coalition website showing all the pieces and how they’re situated. It was a big help to me when I was doing my rebuild.
Do you have a place to get new replacement parts
13:50 I think she asks that LOL😂
How did you remove the plat that bolts to the firewall?
The plate comes apart in two pieces. There are 6 or 7 bolts around the edge of it but once you get them all out you can pull the lower part of the plate and it should disconnect. There are some rubber tabs from the gasket you’ll want to push out of the plate but then you should be totally free.
So hard watching you destroy the very thing I need for my k10,lol.Please tell me i can buy the extra parts from you.
What parts are you looking for? I have a full manual steering column and a full automatic column. Both are non tilt though.
And don’t worry, I put it back together!
@@TheBlazerBeam I saw, over and over. The one thing I needed help with was that last collar separation. After a few blood blisters and 10 other videos I finished the teardown. Turns out I did not break anything, but I never would have attempted this without your video. Looks like I can get the parts I need new, but thank you. Who new this thing took a jeep bearing at the base ,lol. Great videos.
You have some good info I think, but I can't see anything. Your camera is potato quality terrible.
