49:20 still here! Great talk, nice job ladies and JW, great hosting Michelle
Great content keep it coming. Just ordered a set of Triax to try.
Current setup is Alu Power 1.25 main / head reflex mlt 16g. Will try full bed of Triax as well as a tour bite with x-one biphase.
Using Head Gravity 360+ Pro
@Frederic Masi,
Sounds like you've got a good setup on your hands!
Michelle, TW
How did both setups go? Preferred in a hybrid or FB?
How'd you go?
My pro gave me a set to try out so I appreciate your insights on this. Very helpful
@Paul Musarra,
Nice! Let us know how you like it!
Michelle, TW
7:56 I'm still listening! Intro was great, useful history! 👍
Hey TW! I listened to this a year ago and just listened to this whole thing again. It's a great podcast! Any updated thoughts on Triax now that it's been a year? Thanks.
29:53 still here! Great discussion so far
19:05 Michelle, can you elaborate on the "sound at impact" situation? Was it not leaving a confident note? I hate tinny/metallic sound.
Great talk tennis episode. I am frustrated and confused(no demos at my place ). I am planning to buy a racket. Currently play with a blade 98 CV but want a bit more power but controllable power. Looking around the 300 305 g unstrung range. What do you recommend me? Thanks for the talk tennis episode. PL. Reply soon
It sounds like the Babolat Pure Strike 98, and Head Speed racquets would be great choices. Not sure which string pattern you are using for the Blade 98, the 18x20 pattern will help with control (Pure Strike 18x20 or Head Speed Pro). I would also consider the Yonex EZONE 98 and VCORE 98, and Pure Aero VS (2020) if you don't mind a bit stiffer feel. Lastly, the Prince Textreme Tour 100 310 is a great choice as well. Troy, TW
Great review. I would like to ask how does the Triax compare to the x-one biphase, NRG2 and Babolat xcel overall? I am looking for a good multifilament to string in my mains with a co-poly in the crosses.
Triax is firmer, and offers more control compared to those multis, but it is not as firm or dead as most polys. Definitely worth a try in a hybrid. Troy, TW
Hey TW, really liked this one with Jdub! You guys mentioned hybriding it. If pairing with a poly would you put Triax in the mains? And with a multi put it in the crosses? And roughly what tension for the Triax?
All of those pretty much come down to personal preference, but when mixing with a poly, we would likely go with the poly in the mains, although it would likely play just fine with the Triax in the mains. Whichever one in the mains, slightly dominates the feel of the stringbed. With another multi, we would likely go with Triax in the mains. Tension really depends on the player, some of us would likely be in the upper 50's, and maybe low 60's, and others would be lower to mid 50's, and also will depend on the racquet we are putting it in. Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse Thanks Troy - it'll be in my Blade v7 18x20. So tension the Triax in between a multi/poly to start and take it from there?
@@applesforakbar, If you are going to hybrid with a poly, I would probably keep the tension fairly close between mains and crosses, if not the same, and in that racquet probably try it somewhere around 54 give or take. Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse awesome, thanks for the tips my man!
Played NXT Tour for 10+ years but the new Wilson formulation wasn't getting it done. Triax was a revelation. Definitely getting enough additional spin to put 8-12 more balls in play deep during a match. Flat, hard hitter. Non-string breaker. Went from the 16 gauge to the 17 gauge (Triax is slightly larger than traditional strings). Power was good and comfort was as good as NXT. Might not have a ton of feel, but that isn't really my game. Bang bang serve volley 3.5+. Do feel like it improved my baseline game and have seen significant gains in serve return percentage.
Did the playtesters like triax in the mains with the poly in a hybrid or the opposite? Im thinking of trying triax but not sure if fullbed or hybrid works better. Im looking for snapback close to a poly for spin
It will likely play well, for the mains of the crosses in a hybrid, although I have only tried it in the crosses, with a round/smooth poly in the mains, I believe it was Solinco Outlast. It felt pretty good in the hybrid, with better comfort and pocketing than a full poly. Spin was pretty good, not quite the level of a full poly, which is hard to replicate, but better than a full multi for certain. Troy, TW
@TennisWarehouse - the hybrid talk with the triax in this video, was the triax used in the mains or crosses? This wasn't mentioned
Just tried out the Triax last night: Amazing balance between comfort/control/spin! Comparable to the best soft polys, but comfort is up a level, trades a little control with power, added feel with nice ball pocketing, and spin potential is not suffering much.
Now I'm hoping it'll hold tension better than poly, as multi should naturally be.
My usual polys are Hyper-G and Yonex Poly Tour Rev
Hybrid Triax 1.38 (mains) with Velocity MLT 1.25 (cross), highly recommended! 👌
how does it compare to a full bed of Velocity? That's my setup on a PD Plus.
@@dmf30 In the Head Pro Tour 2.0 both setups play comparable to me, I haven't played the PD Plus with a full bed of Velocity MLT, yet.
Great content, anyone knows what the name of the guy who was the expert on this subject?
I have Tecnifibre T Fight 315. Do you guys have any string recommendations to try? Hybrid or not?
For polys, we like Hyper-G or Hyper-G soft, Tecnifibre 4S, and Head Lynx Tour. If we were to hybrid, we would likely go with Wilson Duo Power, or make your own hybrid with Tecnifibre Ice Code, and NRG2. With a poly we would string around 50 to 52 pounds, and with a hybrid somewhere around 56 pounds, although that it just a preference. Troy, TW
planning to get Triax 16/1.33 @ 50 on Prince phantom 100 (40-55 suggestion tension range). I guess it would be good balance of power and control. Any thoughts?
We might go somewhere around 52-53, because of the o3 technology, which adds a little more string movement, and liveliness. What is your usual string and tension in that frame? Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse thank you! I already placed an order requesting 50 pound tension. I hope it won't be too powerful. I went with that tension as the racquet is of low power. My current setup is completely different - Slazenger Vtour 98 with RPM blast at 52 pounds tension.
I really like this string. 👍🏻
I want to know more about this theory from Technifibre about gauge thickness and friction for spin. Recently had this discussion with someone and related it to car racing slicks and grip. More tire, more grip, go fast. Return back to tennis and apply that concept with good mechanics (as said), make sense to me. I wonder though, how mechanics and strong shape, gauge work together though.
I guess to a certain extent that can make sense. The more friction between the string bed and the ball, the more it should grip and enhance the topspin as you swing from low to high, with proper technique. That said, the other factor when it comes to spin potential of the string bed, is the friction between the main and cross strings. So basically to maximize the spin potential of the string bed, ideally you want to maximize string to ball friction, but also minimize string to string friction (main strings ability to slide and snap-back). On our TW University, the Tecnifibre 4S string is one the highest rated for spin potential. Troy, TW
GOSEN AK PRO and HDMX ,how does TRIAX compare??
A little firmer, and slightly more control. Troy, TW
43:19 y'all got anymore of that spin for sale?
Hi TW, quick question.
I use Luxilon ALU Rough 16L in the mains, and Wilson Natural gut in the crosses. I’ve found that with this setup, despite the gut being in the crosses, it still has a massive effect on the way the stringbed plays- it adds lots of power and comfort. My stringer told me i could also use Babolat VS natural gut. What are the main differences between wilson natural gut and babolat vs gut?
They are both premium natural gut strings, but we have a slight preference for Babolat VS. It seems to offer a bit more feel, responsiveness, and is a bit more durable. It is defintiely worth a try on your next re-string, as we find it hard to believe that it will disappoint, and may even switch over. Troy, TW
I demoed several racquets from TW and found that I really liked two different ones (Clash 100 Tour and Prince Phantom 100x 305). Very similar weight, balance and swingweight but quite different “feel” (playability). I bought both to play until I can decide which “feel” I like better. On this podcast I was surprised to hear that advanced players such as the three of you play with more than one frame. Why is that?
We do test a lot of racquets throughout the year, so we are constantly having to adjust to different racquets. We all will have one racquet that we consider our racquet of choice, but since we are testing different racquets all the time, we often try different things to see if there is something that will work better for our playing styles. We have access to just about every racquet on our website on any given day, as well as strings, and machines to string them, so a lot of different combinations. That said, if we are going into a tournament, or a competition like that, we will likely go in with a couple of the same racquets, and use those for the match. Troy, TW
What’s the difference in feel between the two, I really like the Prince Phantom pro 100
@@sanjek Comparing the Clash 100 Tour to the Prince Phantom 100x 305:
Clash: more power, higher launch angle, more "bite" into the ball, more spin
Prince: more control, more accurate, softer feel, more maneuverable, faster through the air
The Prince racquet has plenty of power but the Clash has more.
im doing an experiment with triax 15l at 60 in a 360 head extreme. well see.
How did it work out for you? I’m especially curious about it’s durability
"Have you checked the other planets?" 🤣👍
Any thoughts on a hybrid of Babolat Origin with Triax?
We haven't tried it, but sounds like a good experiment. Troy, TW
Too bad you can't get origin anymore 😪
otogigamer... you can! TW Europe and Tennispro.eu sell reels
@@alainbrouillaud484 Have you tried the mix yet? Triax with Origin if so go well?
James... not yet. I will let you know when I do. I am waiting for some video equipment to arrive so I can do a video. I do have tennis video on my Instagram @ “loveableskibum” if you are interested. I am trying a new set of Triax 25kgs mains and 23.5kgs cross. When I hit sufficiently enough I will let you know 😀🎾
31:44 wait, is there some T-dubz office "stuff" going on?!
This is a fantastic string
More spin than Head Velocity, same stiffness on arm?
Similar spin, but this one is firmer and more control oriented. Troy, TW
What about comfort/power/durability of Triax vs. Velocity MLT?
12:26 I'm still awake!
Usually use Luxilon Ali Poser at 48/45. Tried Triax at 53 in Wilson Clash Tour 100. Playability was good but not durability- it started to fray after 2 hours and broke by 8 hrs. The “poly-coating” didn’t seem to give it any advantage over other multifilament strings that also break after
Clash Tour is a string “chewer”. Not surprised.
I just tried Triax 1.28 today. I felt a lack of control. Ive only had it out for 3 hours. I will give it time to settle in. Feels boardy at 53 pounds in my Pure Drive Roddick Plus. First impression….I dont like it.
@John Yang,
If you are used to a firmer poly, yes I think you would note less control for sure. Curious to see if the experience gets better for you, but it isn't for everyone, but a nice option for players looking for a bit more control without having to go into the co-poly world!
