Mcconell saves Asmon by a split second heal and thereby avoids quest failure. Underaporeciated!

Holy shit that's true XD
but that ain't Mcconell, that was some random cat he picked up along the way.
A paladin ability? wow.... the lore goes deep.
@@Luminogen Ahh damn, you're right. Well, mcconell also knocked down the rathian with a boomerang at a crucial point. Still good kitty 😄
Its insane to me that he can be really good at combat and at the same time be as oblivious to UI and game mechanics as a 60 year old guy playing his first game ever.
i think hes smarter than he lets on.. he likes playing " im a idiot moron " personality, why? i have no idea why after years of it maybe he has become 1 with it.. then again i could be totally wrong and probably am.
@@motorbreathjz It's for the streamer persona
The UI is hot garbage, sorry to say. Game is great and I have over 1000 hours. UI and navigating different options, compared to other PC titles, is just horrible. You get used to it but let's not pretend it's intuitive or good. It doesn't look good either, compared to the great graphics this game has that still hold up with HD textures. The UI looks dated, feels clunky and is overly big. Too many "confirms" too when you do something. There are way too many unnecessary menus or "turn to the next page" elements. For example, why in the world is Forge and Upgrade two different options for weapons? Why do I have to go to a completely different menu (that looks exactly the same) to upgrade the weapon I just created lol? So many things that could be streamlined for the better when it comes to giving the player options or presenting information. The game also does a poor job with other things too such as explaining effect of skills and terminology. I also can't skip cutscenes on PC, no idea if it's possible on console, but it should if not. It was developed for last gen consoles and it shows sadly.
As for why he is oblivious to game mechanics it's because he's not paying attention when they are explained. That simple. A lot of thing are badly or not explained at all in world, but for example, being able to Crouch by pressing spacebar is something you learn by doing in the tutorial, which he didn't know at all how to do. Not blaming too much because it's hard to focus properly with thousands of people watching you and focusing on making the stream entertaining.
@@johnway8819 I do agree that the UI could be a lot better in some cases, but he makes it look soo much worse than it actually is, by intentionally ignoring tutorials, refusing to read any item description or actually looking at the menu instead of quickly rushing through it while complaining that he can't find things that are right in front of his face.
Also doesn't help that the entire UI was designed for Controller and is not really well adapted for Keyboard.
There are two issues coming together here, overly complex UI with a shit ton of things you can do and customize.
+
A player that refuses to learn or read anything in fron of him.
Example... the scout flies are a very very easy concept even a 5 year old could understand....he refuses to understand it not because he couldn't understand it but because he doesn't want to understand it.
He still has never used the slingshot, nor understand what slingshot amo is...
That has nothing to do with UI and everything to do with him being stubborn and unwilling to do things the game didn't out right tell him to do.
MH is designed for you to test things and figure some things out on your own, and he refuses to do that.
He also intentionally ignores side quest...that would unlock tools, mechanics etc.
@@johnway8819 I mean...he still hasn't figured out that the big green blob bugs his palico keeps bringing to hem are a heal.
He pays absolutely no attention to anything besides the monsters.
Hell he spent the entirety of the new area without eating once.
He keeps fighting on low stamina even though rations are free.
There is so many things i could mention here that have nothing to do with UI being too hard to understand.
He just doesn't pay attention at all.

The DLC for this game called IceBorne was scheduled to come out in the middle of the pandemic. A buddy of mine walked me through the base game a month before the DLC came out (stay at home mandate and we were both unemployed due to the pandemic as well) and it was super fun. Iceborne came around and we had two more people with us to play through the content with a full squad. Ended up with around 450 hours in the game and around 400 was probably with three other people. Some of the most fun I've ever had in a game ever, so cool that you're playing through it. Hopefully you have a squad with you and have just as much fun this game can be so great with other people.

@@swagitachiuchiha5012that’s not true, trailer said it was coming to steam and there’s no mention of it being at a later date than console.
It's always good to experiment. Don't hesitate to craft from other crafting trees, armor or weapon types. This lets you know more about the mechanics while giving you the opportunity to adapt your playstyle. I always craft newly unlocked shit once I get the materials for it regardless of crafting tree, so I could try them out whenever I want.
It's more like a "you won't know it until you try" situation, even if you found yourself a comfy playstyle.
But it's absolutely amazing that you're able to make these monster limp from the first encounter. And the first-try rathian kill was chef's kiss. Players usually don't go for that kill early-game.
my most fav thing in MH is that your combos & the monster have 2 different timings that need to line up to hit those awesome satisfying hits but u dont need to think about it
you just play the game and ur brain calculates everything in the background & u become better & better

Loved seeing Asmon play Monster Hunter, as a fellow GS user I was quite impressed overall! Timing and combos come with game knowledge. Asmon has the heart and mentality already, with time and learning to incorporate jump attacks he's going to be incredible. Can't wait to see more!
this game aged so well. I can't wait to see more.
MHW is truly on another level as far as replayability and aging goes. Game still looks so good I bet people could mistake it for one that came out in the last year or two
Bro its not that old.
No, only 2018 lol
Yes. I too am shocked that this game did not age into obscurity in fives years. 🙄
you shouldn't be
He did really well. The fact he did it with a Great Sword too. It definitely take more than 4 hours to truly appreciate the gameplay though imo. I hope he does another one. MH will get great advertisment when a big name like Asmon is representing it.
The quest in the wastes was really impressive. It's fun to see Asmon learn and adapt to the monster's in real time
I was fully expecting this just to be something Asmon would just make content out of, just like BG3. The fact he is playing is flipping awesome.
The reason he played this is because it's an action game. That's what he plays now. If it has good combat, he will likely try it. My taste and games has funnily enough been much of the same as well that's how I can identify it.
Asmon understands why bg3 is good but its not the kinda game he plays. This is more in his ballpark anyway.
this game is quite similar to fromsoftware games like elden ring and dark soul series. dodge roll and slow attacks.
@@madtech5153I mean kinda? There aren't really any "dodge rolls" in MH (the only dodge-ish move you can rely on for i frames in MH is superman dive but that's impractical) and just like from games, sure you can use greatswords for slow attacks but you can also use dual blades if you wanna play at adhd anime action game speed. Really about the only thing similar about both games are that they're action games and incredibly difficult (at least the older ones). The utility items like paintballs and flash/smoke, the usage of traps and barrels, chasing injured monsters in their lair, weapon sharpness, weather drinks, breaking parts, etc, MH feels a lot more like a tactical action survival game meanwhile Dark Souls is just a straight action rpg (Sekiro and Bloodborne are a bit diff esp Sekiro)
Bg3 is not the type of games he usually plays, a turn based strategy game.
man this awesome to watch. asmon is naturally learning this pretty fast even when chats giving him mixed answers. i really hope to see him continue playing this but man some youtube videos, or guides, or ya know not skipping the tutorial text crawl (ik it sucks but at least it tells you EVERYTHING) i think would benefit him even more id be excited to see if he gets to G rank, as in hes interested in doing it but well have to see.
This is awesome.
I hope he plays more of this. I doubt it though, it's already a miracle that he played this in the first place.
Aaaaaaaaand he beat it. 😂😂

It's cool to see he was so into this title. Here's hoping he continues playing. Stuff gets pretty technical later on despite being the "entry" game to the MH series for a larger audience.
this absolute mad lad took one look at Rathian with nothing but a g.jag gs and some bone armor and just went for it....and actually brought her down before stomping barroth into the mud as a brand new player to MH. that is both amazing and hilarious. Holy shit, great job!

The dopamine hit all we greatsword users get from that third true charged slash is enough to keep our combined single brain cell operating a macimum capacity and is enough to carry you through to the end.
to the end? even so much more after the end for me! the sound, the camera effect, the hit lag, the flying tail, the broken part sound... been a gamers for 30 years, nothing felt as satisfying as TCS in World/borne
This and at the end game, beating Elder dragons and Black dragons for max dopamine.
I like these streams. I just started playing mhw and this vod is like a laid-back walkthrough.
Regarding Defender gear (Cheat Armor and weapon)
2:27:48
It actually ties to your growth as a player.
Buying the Defender gear teaches players a bad habit of tanking hits.
Which is why many veteran players don't like seeing newbies with them.
While bad habits will be okay during the early game,
During the moment when the game steps up, bad habits will punish the players.
And often make those players perform badly during harder hunts.
And this hurts other players in multiplayer.
Thats right, the proper use of that set is if you are already familiar with MH or in my case redoing it from.scratch cuz i'm switching platform and want to ge to iceborne asap. I already played vanilla MHW to a tee and when switched to PC i want to go to the so called awesome expansion
Gotta appreciate the game right away introducing the most important game mechanic: no fall damage. Followed immediately by the second most important mechanic: the handler being a useless pain who just causes you trouble.
Ya'll act like she's an actual player that griefs every hunt. Its literally because shes a bubbly female and we frown upon that in these here parts
@@atelierbagur3831 If she just grabbed a LBG and helped out by poisoning the enemy a couple times in the fight we'd be all for her but instead she's lazy, self important, cowardly and steals credit for the players actions. Hell, I bet if there was scenes of her just dealing with all the paperwork that's supposed to be her job she'd still have a better reputation.
She gets grief for not being a waifu or a mommy for sweaty gamers. I found her a fun character. Made a grizzled old Lance wielder who was a grandfather character for her. It made for a fun dynamic always saving herm 😂
@@user-cs9sy6zc2i people gravitate to serious handler because shes boring and not an active character
@@user-cs9sy6zc2i never played this game. Just watching this stream. She is not funny neither interesting. Her whole purpose is to be “wow that’s so cool” character. She is useless from narrative and gameplay pow
This game is a masterpiece. I dear you to finish it. You will love it. The combat feels clunky by design. When you get good, you have full control.
Also the greatsword is the one that feels the most clunky.
It takes alittle while to get into this game, but it's well worth it
I like to say the combat is designed to feel “deliberate.” It’s not meant to be like a God of War or Devil May Cry with instant animation cancels and you zipping around. Not that there is anything wrong with those games, they’re great games too, but what they’re doing and Monster Hunter is doing are completely different. In MH, each attack is meant to be a commitment so you really have to think about positioning and timing. I like to say, most action games try to make you feel like a god. Monster Hunter games want to make you feel like you’re fighting a god.
You can finish it?😮
The fact that there is no level and that you must learn to tailor your gear depending on the prey you hunt is also unique to the combat system.
@@jacquesdube6294 I would say after you get all the Fatalis gear and all the Transmog, there's not much more to do. I played it for like 800 hours before I felt I was done
I'd go further and even say that it's not clunky, but rather accurate to your skill level. An unskilled fighter will make the wrong moves and misposition in real life, while a skilled person makes deliberate actions and has everything flow together. This is what Monster Hunter feels like - as you get better, your character's hunts reflect that kind of change.

Sharpness for your weapon is important because each color (signified by the blade shaped icon in the upper left hand corner right beneath your health and stamina bars) signifies a "tier" of sharpness. Monsters have hard points on their body that you need a certain tier of sharpness to attack through, otherwise your weapon will bounce off ineffectively. Barroth has a generally tough hide so attacks are more likely to bounce on him then other monsters depending on where you attack him at. Every Monster in Monster Hunter has a neat little gimmick about them that you can learn if you pay careful attention to them. Barroth likes to bath in mud, which applies a protective coat of mud on him that can sort of "deflect" hits once before breaking off. Rathian can inflict poison with her tail and cutting it off renders her impotent in that regard. Kulu Yaku will dig up rocks to use as weapons and shield itself, but there's also a small chance he could dig up something like an explosive rock (might not happen in low difficulties?) that adds extra damage to it's attacks. It's important to study monsters and their gimmicks while fighting to better prepare yourself for fighting them more successfully later on.
Sharpness above yellow also add a damage multiplier: green - 1.05x, blue-1.2x, white-1.32x, and purple-1.39x. Similarly any sharpness below yellow gives damage debuff orange-0.75x and red-0.5x.

What i love about this game is that all the information you need was lovingly crafted into the animations and the world itself, unlike most games which cover the screen in UI information dumps because the world is so lifeless and doesnt tell you anything. I think asmon is used to the latter and thats why hes having trouble with the information. You know the Ration's enraged because hes doing different moves and acting enraged lol.

I'm at around 800 hours, I farmed everything and the last 200 hours or so I was just helping people with healing HH build and had a blast. I was thinking about jumping back after like 2 years when I saw on steamcharts how many people play MHW again but I kinda switched to ps5, don't want to sit at pc for hours after work, though at the same time I don't want to start again from scratch. I'll see how long it will take till I give in :D
This game scratches that rpg grind itch in such a good way, its kinda bizarre how good this game is and how underrated it has sort of remained.
Yeah the MH series is fucking amazing, love them all (except MH1 that ones fuckin weird)
MH has had the "fight, make cool stuff, fight, make cooler stuff" formula down pat for over 15 years. I don't know very many series quite like this one that have had quite a few entries that have all been bangers
Underrated? This sold Elden Ring type numbers. Literally the best selling Capcom game of all time. Monster Hunter isn't niche or underrated anymore, it's an industry titan now
agree, but this title is the first hit success for capcom. more to come with wilds!
saw a clip involving melee weapon hit boxes, tbf they work very well. like almost impressively so. how accurate their hit/animations are. but getting used to them is another thing xD
It always astounds me how slowly he picks up on the mechanics of a game. Sure, he's streaming so it adds a layer of distraction but still, there are prompts right in front of your face telling you what button to press.
The game never explains why you would want to push those buttons though. Simply putting an "F" on screen with no context is just bad design
@@maskettaman1488asmon: "how the f do I do the thing"

@@aiheki Relegating important contextual information to an infodump in the corner of the screen is exactly what I mean by bad design. First it is a sign that the controls are not intuitive to begin with, which is already a major problem with the game, but it also means the information is not obvious. Of course if you already know how the game works then its obvious to you but to a new player that just simply isn't the case. Especially a new player that is familiar with games and has certain expectations for how they work and how information is conveyed to the user.
@@maskettaman1488 I was replying to your comment that implies the game just put an input on the screen with no context... There's always context next to those inputs in MHW... Like what do you want, a full essay next to them on what they would do?
Personally I dislike the keyboard controls in MHW so I can get the confusion but the input is literally there, like with the shoot slinger situation. The first thing anyone should do in any game ever when not sure how to use something is to look at the UI or the control scheme if there are no inputs present in the UI
Anyways skill issue (and I'm not talking about MHW, just general awareness)
@@aiheki Slapping a an icon on the screen that just says "Jangleberry" or whatever is meaningless. New players have no idea what that means. Hell, Asmon didn't even realize that the popup was contextual and I don't blame him.
Most games like this put the popup near the item. So if there's a footprint to loot, the popup to do so would actually be near the item in world-to-screen space. That makes it very obvious what the popup means and what you're interacting with.
This has been pretty standard design for like a decade
They tried to band-aid this with the green indicator but they flubbed that by making it take so long to activate that you've already ran past the thing it was trying to highlight for you by the time it actually does.
The entire UI and control scheme on this game is like stepping back through 10 years of evolution in game design communication and convention. And don't even get me started on how obnoxious and nonsensical navigating menus is. You can't even click to drag items around!
Honestly asmons did so well than most youtuber who tries monhun for the first time, he actually take time understanding the game and that feels so good to watch
Brings back classic memory of "dark souls fun vs low rank kenzu"
@@Ouiumlow rank khezu can ko a hunter in g rank armor in mhfu with a single lightning ball attack. If that hits you close range its a guarantee ko because all 4 or 5 orbs hit you at the same time. Hate that screeching monster
No need for all that, the music is enough to kill dozen of G rank Hunter @@snuggie1849
And on greatsword (one of the hardest weapons to master) - using a mouse & keyboard of all things. Pretty nuts. He's a natural with the GS too.
nah he played shit just say it
It’d be really cool to see you master the Great Sword. It’s a very fluid weapon, and you can also shoulder charge out of incoming damage mid attack, so the key is to always be swinging that GS. A shoulder charge will also skip a step in your power up to reach the max damage faster.
I'm so glad he enjoyed this game. MH is such a low keyengreat game/franchise. Please keep posting his streams, excited to see his progress
Great Jageas went really well for his first hunt. He needs to learn to lightly tap W to force his character to look in the camera direction to aim his attacks.
So happy he played finally! Can’t wait to watch more! Let’s blow this video up guys! Let him know!
his hooked but depends
Welcome to the monster hunter series Asmold!
Sincerely hope it brings you hundreds if not thousands of hours of joy! My veteran advice is to try out different weapons to see which one suits your playstyle first. Each weapon is equally viable, and has their own feel. And remember you can always change up weapons! ♡
Sincerely; a toot toot horn main.
I mean , there Is a clear tier list . They are not equally as viable. They should have nerfed Ls and they should have given half armor value bor ranged weapons like the old time
@@Andrea-dw1ps They ARE equally as viable.
The tier list is complete BS. All weapons are fully viable, pretty balanced and work in against any monster in any scenario. Tier lists are subjective.@@Andrea-dw1ps
@@Andrea-dw1ps Monster hunter has no tier list it's y'all who made up that foolishness..every weapon in the game is a beast in the right hands I've seen japanese bow players DEMOLISH EDs in minutes so you are talking nonsense.
Gimme some advice it’s a game I should love but the combat always feels clunky
Asmongold looking for new equipment: "Who gives a fuck what it looks like?"
Also Asmongold after preview the Bone Set: "I do"
Welcome to "Fashion hunting"
Shoulder charge is huge when playing GS instead of committing to the attack you can skip a charge lvl plus tank a little damage. I’m so pumped to watch this journey🎉
So great to see new people play this game. Enjoy 😊
Edit: Be sure to check (and do) the limited bounties to get celestial wyverin prints. Those help with getting harder materials like gems and mantles in high and master rank.
Happy Hunting
I still remember when you saw the release trailer to this come and talked it down... I thought that was weird because this game fits well into alot of the core aspects of game design that you like. I'm happy to be watching you play this and hope you enjoy it. I have had alot of fun playing this with my friends.
Did he start playing soulslikes back then already? I think that changed it a lot
@@antares3030 Elden ring in general has opened alot of people up to finally try other games.
Tbh trailers for MHW were kind of underwhelming. Idk if devs were trying to downplay the game in order to lure new players in, but it certainly didn't work on me. I only decided to buy it after watching the review by ShillUp. Watched trailers for older games later, and even though they were full CG, they were way more hype.
It took 2 years to basically "forse" him into playing souls. And he finally played i in 2018-19. It was far from MHW to be on his radar then. ANd now it toook 4 years to see him here, and im telling you it his perrfect game, but he doesent know it yet. This genre is why MMOS died.
Like why suffer through boring non action combat and why see +100 idiots if they are have no relevance to you, if you can see 16 important people in this typo of lobbies (or up to 36 in like GTAO, RDO) and do quest with 3 of them at a time. You in your mmos still bitch about 20 ppl raids being too many anyway, but also have to deal with non action combat netcode made for +100 people. So having more dedicated lesser "lobbyed" ( i dont remember better word for it) games is where all of the mmo-coop online gamers at (warframe is also my pick).@@antares3030
It only gets better with time too. I’ve played over 1000 hours, and I still get excited when I boot it up. The weapon variety makes it so that there’s always some way to shake things up if you start getting bored. CB is my main but I’ve been loving SA lately
Pick up exclamation quests at home base they upgrade meals for better buffs etc, also empty the ammo into the main hub box or the ammo berries will fill the main inventory instead. (Eventually you will learn the plants but until then this will help a lot)
While charging your blade you can cancel it by right clicking, your move will then be a short tackle which recovers faster. It can also be used as a quick gap closer if you are one step to far away from a hit.
Watching him get lost in the cave, going out the wrong way, and then happening upon the monster and drop shotting it off a cliff had me dying
Love the play through, keep it up!
I’m so freaking happy that Asmon is playing Monster Hunter. It’s so good that he’s bringing so much attention to the franchise
whenever I reccomend it to someone and they talk about how clunky the movement is, I always say its like a rhythm game, there's a beat for the combo and get use to it and you'll love the combat of the game.
Ya see never see it in that way and ya right
huh when my friends asked me why I loved Velkhana so much I said it felt like a death dance between me and the monster... rhythm game makes so much sense in that regard
It makes sense because the first monster Hunter was partially inspired by phantasy star online which literally has a rhythm based combo system, at least in the entry I played
this game came out in 2018 and still looks better than most games that came out this year
Watching the new player experience I’m actually surprised how it kind of over/underexplains a lot of things 😅 totally worth pushing through to figure it out tho
Bros playing a gem that changed a lot of people. Can't wait to see this man get to Lunastra, Behemoth, Valkhanna and Ruiner 😭
as a long time greatsword main i understand begging at the pixels on the monitor to just stay still for two seconds
Honestly hope he keeps at this game even offstream cause monster hunter is truly an amazing experience. So much content and fun to be had.
Your research is connected to your hunters notes, the more tracks you pick up the more notes you will get in the book on what body parts to sleigh and what the monster drops, etc.
one thing you learn playing the game after thousand hours is how op your utility's are, the flash bang alone is amazing from stopping monsters from flying or even fly away if your fast enough and gives ez free hits the screemer pod is the same but built for a specific mob. flash pods make legiana, rathlos and kush dior a joke to fight. theres so much stuff in the game that you can construct your own cheese strats lol one of my best cheese strats is sticky ammo with bow gun against any mob that goes under ground, water, mud, lava, snow , unlike a sword its a quick react and can shorten the fight vs swords cuz you'll have consistent damage
I used to play this on the ps2 online, first time I ever made actual online friends shame it closed down a few years later but that experience grew into a love for this franchise I'll never forget, such a solid series of games
This game looks awesome...it's hard to find good games now a days. Thanks for introducing it
Then you have MH Wilds coming out in 2025 💪
Welcome aboard, comrade! I hope you give it a try and enjoy! It's tough but it's a great experience, in my opinion.
Man it's always such a treat seeing someone new playing the game for the first time. It lets me relive my first experience with it.
Upgrading your armor is a good idea if you are going to be using it for a while. Low and high rank armor usually are not worth upgrading because you change armor so often. You would just be wasting your armor spheres. That is the logic behind it.
Hes doing amazing with the Great Sword so far and if he learns the tackle he geniunly will be set for a while mechanics wise
"The hitboxes are surprisingly better than I tho-"
*gets hipchecked by Plesioth*
so glad youre playing this asmon. my favorite game series by far.
Thank you for the content! This series is awesome
oh wow he actually played it!! Gonna have to save this video for an off day for sure!! Based on this comment section it looks like he did pretty well and enjoyed it for the most part. Not surprising as most I know who enjoy RPG's and Souls games tend to love this series too! Looking forward to seeing if he plays Wilds when it drops like the rest of us
He was justifying his cart by saying he is a slow learner, but he is kinda cooking. The fact that he sheaths his greatsword to reposition is something that isn't intuitive but it is optimal. He also realized that on a stagger he had time for the true charged slash. Good stuff.
Monster hunter has a ton of mechanics. And you learn them bit by bit to become an efficient hunter.
Also, anjanath is a wall even when you meet him officially in the story, let alone as a second hunt lmao.
I can see him liking this. It has that path of exile build stuff where you grind to get stronger.
You play poe?
Asmon has always been a quick learner when it comes to combat - it's just that doesn't really have the patience for the little stuff (weapon crafting, gathering/tracking mechanics, etc.)
Not mandatory for the most part, but it does slow down his progress a tad lol
he still needs to actually charge his attacks and roll after tcs.
Someone need to tell him to stop overcharge the TCS
@@shutup1037 too be fair, the game does a piss poor job at explaining this.
The one weakness of monster hunter games is that you always need zn outfit side tutorial to pick up weapond...
Doing that well against the first Rathian you see, the one that you were pretty much supposed to be afraid of and avoid, was pretty nice.
one huge tip for every single new player to Monster hunter.
DON"T look at the damage number or armor number of each weapon or armor.
Try every single weapon in the training grounds and see what you love and specialize one or two weapons to start with.
Same with armor skills are far more important with the status effect than that magical armor number.
Exactly what I did with training, only really liked the long sword and dual swords
I picked dual blades and never looked back ngl 💀 don't even gotta try the others to know this is peak + hunting horn
This is unbelievable. I love this franchise so much. My most favourite franchise. Please keep it up.
Its always nice to see games i enjoy being enjoyed by other people. Heres to hoping this is the start of a long playthrough Asmongold. Hope you have a lot of fun with it. Try mastering the Sword and Shield, the perfect rush combo is quite strong.
Been trying to watch this for 3 days now, due to work/sleep/overwatch dailies/getting high/playing MHW myself... And i still beat all these exact monsters so easily with my Fatalis gear and Frostfang Chestpiece) and Wyvern's Impact Great Sword
