Releasing a lens which currently is not available from Nikon in Z mount, is this yet another solid lens from Viltrox?

Very good to see Sydney again (even if just via CZcams) and look forward to getting back to Australia in December. You said a few times "Just a Zfc". Don't sell that little beast short. I take it out almost as much as the Z9. Especially when I want to travel light. I get great results with my FX lenses as well as the 23mm Viltrox. Just need a DX with IBIS because you are spot on that it takes a few minutes to remember how we used to have to shoot before we all got spoiled. Safe Travels!!!
I'm thinking of getting this for my z30! Another great video!
What a lens!
I'm waiting for a silver version as this would perfectly match my line-up of a Nikon Zfc and 23mm, 33mm & 56mm all in silver ;)
I really love these lenses.
Good review, thanks!
Great work Matt! This was a very interesting lens when it was announced even though I don't have an dx camera, it is a great option. Thanks as always!
Hi Mitt, a good review of a lens that has been missing for the Nikon ZFc and Z50 users.
Many greetings from Denmark
Ordered mine for my Zfc. Mainly because how fast it is, but also for those wide angle landscape shots (on a tripod, hence not too worried about lack of VR)
Thanks for the review Matt! I could really use this lens on my Zfc when we travel to Machu Picchu in mid-September to complement my 18-140mm Z lens, but unfortunately it probably won't be available for the Z mount by then.
Excellent lens review Matt. I am not sure if i will be getting this lens any time soon as i am saving up for a extra long prime! But maybe?
I own the Z50. Its a great little camera (great for travel). Unfortunately Nikon doesn't make any prime (fast) APSC lenses. So I decide to purchase the Viltrox 23mm lens; so far I am happy with the lens, but agree I like it to have VR built in. Hopefully Nikon will start making APSC prime lens.
For those sorts of shots working at a higher F stop allows the background to be more in focus thus giving a more 3D look.
Nice timing for the z30
Well done Viltrox! I’m a huge fan of 20 primes, and i’d definitely pick this one up if I had an apsc body.
Have a full frame body and I'm still going in because 360 wasn't a bad price. Lose some MP but damn it's fast and wide.
Thanks!
Thank you so much Michael. :) Cheers Matt
I picked it up. I was waiting for this... Good thing to have a lens that is not already available in the native sphere :)
Fantastic, which cam are you coupling it with? Cheers Matt
I do like that companies like Viltrox are making lenses for the APSC cameras. In a way it is allowing Nikon to focus on the line up for their full frame cameras.
The 13mm is not for me but I have ordered the 56mm in silver to go on my Zfc. Should arrive to me next week so will be interesting to try out.
I got quite a burn from UK, yes, sunburned at 23C. Nice quick review of the 13mm F1.4 Z Lens, quite ok with the price just wondering Nikon bring the price down or perhaps not.
Hey Matt, thanks for the really useful video. The last time I was shooting in Sydney harbour as a backpacker I was using an EOS-600 in 1990!
I have started photography again this year letting my Nikon DSLR and Lenses go for a Zfc, plus the 16-50mm kit Lens, I have now added a 40mm f2 SE, and I am looking for one more transportable wide angle Lens. I really favour portability with the Zfc setup and it helps to get me out there taking pictures for fun.
I do fancy this Viltrox 13mm f1.4 over the Nikon 12-28mm Power Zoom, but I am worried about portability and access / storage in camera bags as small as possible. Once you were on the go, were you bothered about the weight and size of the Viltrox?
I basically got mine for my z6ii because I don't have any other Z 1.8 or faster primes besides the 50mm, it's cheap, and I want something to use with the fc if I finally ever get one. Looking forward to it arriving.
Update: yeah it rocks. Also taking the hood on and off has a 10/10 absolutely goated tactile feeling.
very good video
Have you tried it on a Z6ii or Z7ii please. My Viltrox 85mm does not work on my Z7ii but does on the other Zs...
Fully pro vid matt. Well done. 👍🏻
I think I’ll wait for the right time to pick up the Nikon 14-24. Though the viltrox is super cheap for what it delivers.
Cheers Joe and thanks for your hard work !!!!
You will love the 14-24mm Z. Pricey but well worth it.
z14-24 is just superb and the filter hood fits all the f2.8 trinity. I use with a set of Kase 112mm magnetic filters
The Z 14-24 is fantastic! Small, handy, optically outstanding, worth every Penny! 😎
I like the Haida filter holder especially, which uses the lens hood mount instead of the filter thread. Thus it can be mounted much more easily, the lens cap is usable at the same time as the filter holder is mounted and as a bonus, the filter holder fits the F 105 1.4 and the Z 24-70 2.8, too 💪
@@chrishilton6378 thank chris. I have another couple of lenses in line first. I’m trying to pick and choose exactly what I’m going to use in the field. The kit just keeps getting heavier and heavier. :-) photography is going to make me fit again.
I was tempted by the Viltrox until I saw the new Nikon 12-28mm Z PZ that was announced recently, and for similar money... OK, so it's not as fast as the Viltrox at f3.5-5.6 but it's more flexible, and particularly useful for video with the motorised zoom.
Might still pick up the Viltrox for my Z50 (I've got the 56mm, which is excellent) - it would make a stonking Astro-photography lens !
with all those great primes from viltrox, we need an APS-C beast simmilar to the Canon R7, and nikon will kick ass!
I think this is a no b rainer! Price is right, build is good, no equivalent Nikon lens exists! If I had a Nikon z mount DX camera, I would not hesitate.
How much of the picture is usable on a FX camera?
yo no pude conectar el lente en mi zfc el lente lo puedo usar en mi nikon z30 y lo reconoce bien, pero en la nikon Zfc no lo reconoce, que puedo hacer?
With a 3rd party lens like this, are the out-of-camera jpgs corrected for distortion?
Nice to see you're out more. It's almost like you've been allowed off punishment 😂
When are you going be in Sydney again
I just discovered that my new Viltrox 19mm 1.4 lens offers VR on my Z7II. Since this is a DX lens, the coverage is the same as that on a DX camera body. With the same 67mm filter size this lens will pair nicely with my 24-200 lens with my Z7II.
it would be nice, if like their F-mount bodies, you could turn off the aps crop when putting aps lenses on a Nikon ff Z body. It would also be nice in Nikon images were imported into editing software as full size RAWS instead any applied in-camera image crop.
So essentially it's a 20mm full-frame equivalent. But what does an F1.4 translate into? An F2? Just trying to see if indeed it's worth the effort to buy it. Viltrox might just make a full-frame at some point. Don't get me wrong, I own 85mm for my Z6 ii and I really enjoy using it, and price to performance is a great deal.
09:17 that's not a "lovely flare" for me hehe..
but in all aspects, is such a great lens
thanks for the vid
Flare enough Ramon :)

Dang. I don't see any show stoppers here. Viltrox seems to have invested back into the business to raise the bar with its' products. Good on them. Alas; no use case for me - yet.
Yep I agree, sometimes the stroll is all I need :)
Here is a prediction: Next firmware update for the Z9 will again be a big one. Not as big as the 2.0, which was exceptionally big.
The reason I think so, is that it has been so long since the 2.0 and we haven't even seen a 2.0.1 or 2.1. I think they are busy working on a big update!
I think they are busy reprogramming the autofocus system - maybe even from scatch. The current autofocus firmware is an improvement of the Z6II/Z7II firmware and you can see that from the tracking square lacking behind, as it does in the Z6II/Z7II.
The new autofocus will be much more intelligent and the square will follow subjects without latency, like on Sony and Canon.
I always thought that it was weird that the square was still lacking behind even with the much more powerfull processor of the Z9. It most be software issue.
What do you all think?
@Matt maybe you could discuss this in your next video? :) Cheers :)
I would love to grab this lens and try some Milky Way shots with it!!
No nikon wide angle for Z apsc cameras without using that akward FtZ mount
My mother was born in march 1932 and is still with us 😂📷👍
Sigma, Z - apsc lenses being released soon, apparently.
Are you still in Sydney?
Not any more, hope to return soon, this was a flying visit. :)
@@MattIrwinPhotography Next time I will have my Z9 (arriving any day now) and we can go on a photographic excursion, can share a few good spots. Have livd here for 31 years :)

Great work
Why buy that lens? Because Nikon doesn't provide that "fuji"-style lens that i want for a Zfc to make it look good.
20mm 1.4 is an awesome focal-length and as much as i would love to buy that Zfc, without a great 20 or 24mm prime it's just not worth it for me.
Thanks for your look at the lens
Again I thing you are misleading people. You keep referring to it having a 19:5 field of view . It’s an apsc (dx) lens on a crop sensor (dx) sensor camera!
The FOV equating to the standard of a 35mm is 19.5mm
@@MattIrwinPhotography I'd say the math is correct 😃
Nikon needs to come out of its cave and collaborate closely with third-party lense makers.
I am from INDIA. Can I use viltrox 13mm f1.4 in my Z6II. If thete is any problem with quality.
