  • Is the ALL-NEW Viltrox 13mm F1.4 Prime lens the NEW Wide Angle Prime KING For Fujifilm users? This new low light beast has all the greatest and latest specs for Night Sky Photography, on today's vlog we find out how good this new lens from Viltrox really is for Night Sky Photography.
My normal go-to for Night Sky Photography with the Fujifilm system is the amazing Samyang 12mm F/2, an almost perfect lens. However, I always find myself looking for the AF capability to improve my low light filming and travel photography requirements. The Viltrox has a larger aperture at F1.4 and alongside AF, could this possibly be the lens I have been dreaming of?

G'day Matthew, great video. I stumbled across your channel a couple of months ago when you were up in the Flinders for a few days on a trip shooting sunrises and sunsets around the Pound. I'm across the gulf in the Steel City. I'm really enjoying seeing a local photographer show how amazing our landscapes and skies are around here. Keep up the great captures, and I'm looking forward to more of your content :) Downloaded the files and I'll give it a go at an edit.

Super helpful video Matt! I've been using the new Fujifilm 18mm f1.4 and think the results are pretty good for astro. Aside from slight vignetting when open wide, it is super sharp and doesn't seem to suffer from any of the usual astro defects we tend to look out for. But I'm new to this and don't have a lot to compare to. Just wondering if you've tried or considered this lens and have any thoughts on how it compares to the Viltrox?

    Hi Mat
    Great video, very cool lens.
I recently commented on your Nikon vs Fuji - as I wait for my Fuji X2 to arrive, I am debating whether the Samyang (older version) or Viltrox is better for me. Putting aside some obvious pros and cons i.e. aperture/AF/price/weight etc - what is your opinion on the image quality between the two? How's the sharpness wide open and stopped down (and in corners)? How does the coma compare?
You and a lot of others really rate both lenses and I haven't seen much in the way of head to head. The sentiment seems to be that the Viltrox is very sharp, but then I watched Dustin Abbot's review and he compared it to the Fuji 16 2.8 and they were neck and neck, and yet so many people like to point out the 16 is not that sharp in the corners. So basically I've not seen an apples to apples comparison and you've used both a lot.
    Thanks mate!
    Dan

I've got the Viltrox 56mm. For its price, the quality is incredible. The only thing that's bothering me with all the Viltrox lenses is the aperture blades are pretty loud when controlled electronically: in Aperture Priority mode, it's still opening and closing the aperture to expose your image preview correctly and when jumping between lighter and darker scenes, you can hear it really well. Manually setting the aperture using the ring, you don't hear anything.
