  • MASTER CYCLE POWAH!!! Anyways, jokes aside, this tournament is the "original" DLC of Mario Kart 8. So only karts, characters (such as Link) that were DLC in the original game can be selected.

Ggs today. Happy you did pretty good. I on the other hand struggled heavily. Excited for next week.

      You did what you could.
I've stopped to think a little bit and have come to the realization that we really are running out of time. December will be here before we know it and we really need to make a huge push. Good luck to you.

Hopefully I'm more awake for next week's tournament. Not that it would have made any difference last night, since we're still in Wave 5 and Miis weren't allowed, but who knows what tournament Alex has planned for us next week? Considering this reply is being sent close to 3 A.M. (for me), I still have a lot left to do to get my sleep set back on course.

Miis not allowed, Wave 5 tournament, had been awake for about 15 hours when the tournament started, ummm... yeah. There was no way I could even consider competing last night. At least I had fun watching Alex's perspective then, and now I'm doing the same with your perspective. All 12 races are "safe" for my viewing, so let's dive into the commentary.
    1:12
Ironic that inward drift saved you here, since the 6v6 before this tournament saw Alex pick this course (and Music Park, a.k.a. Melody Motorway, as well) specifically to "anti" Team Daisy's inward players.
    2:00
In Stickman's defense, he was only trailing that to protect himself in case you had a red shell. Even if he saw you carrying a 🍄, there's no way for him to know that you didn't have a red in the pocket.
    5:48
That or the Tanooki Kart would be the best vehicle body options, especially for Link with the Triforce Tires. I'd have probably gone Tanooki Kart if I were playing because of how similar it is to the Koopa Clown I keep having Kefka drive, but the extra Acceleration point on the Blue Falcon would come in handy with how the players in these tournaments have been using items since Wave 5 dropped.
    6:02
The player in first (probably Huey, since he won and Ren was second) trapped the doubles in the center, and the leftmost doubles were no longer an option after how hard you drifted, but not drifting that hard might have triggered a funky "out of bounds" call from Jugem/Lakitu.
    7:27
That's why I've said on several comments that I'll *never* pick Random. Not even when the options are Baby Park, Los Angeles 🗑, and Toad's Turnpike with Alex in the lobby. In that specific scenario, I'll be "that guy" and pick Baby Park despite hating the course myself. I have a strategy for Baby Park I learned from either Hydreix or Shortcat (I don't remember which one) that's ill-advised on Toad's Turnpike and has already been proven to fail at LA, so if it works on Baby Park, maybe I can stop hating it and enjoy the chaos. Which would be even funnier if I test out the strategy with Captain Bikke in the Landship. Chaos, savvy?
    8:19
I found out about a week and a half ago that you *can* fall into the toilet. While watching what is now the longest-tenured Mario Kart group that I still watch (though this group plays a lot of games together, making Mario Kart gatherings much less common for them than for other groups that focus primarily on playing Mario Kart together), I heard Nogla shout *"BROCK! I'M IN THE TOILET!"* after getting hit by either a Boomerang or red shell (I forget which item, I only remember having a good laugh at Nogla's reaction).
10:17 (also applies to 10:35 , though the commentary fits better with the first of these 2 timestamps)
I'll do no such thing. We need to practice here in a weekend friend room. After we get the Bowser's Castle race I was denied by a D/C in the tournament 2 weeks ago, of course.
Of course, I won't be picking this in an Alex tournament unless the other options are 2 of the following: Los Angeles 🗑, Toad's Turnpike (with Alex in the lobby), or Yoshi Valley (with wind in the lobby).
    11:34
Oof. Happens to us all. With me, the fail is by using the 🍄 a frame too early, so I don't even have the item to get back up to speed like you did here.
    12:50
Hearing the joy over these next several seconds makes me happy. 😄
I wonder if this was the funny part you mentioned during Alex's livestream. 🤔
    14:12
    It's bagging season.
    15:40
    🐮
    17:44
Maybe this is the funny part. Sorry, Link. You're not Harold Gould and I'm not Betty White, so no running toward me yelling "moo".
    19:33
Ask, and ye shall receive. Shigeru helps those who help themselves.
    21:03
Resetti attacking Donkey Kong with Dig outta nowhere. RKO! RKO!
    27:20
That was almost a "Move, you stupid 🐧!" moment. Almost.
    #GoLink #MASTERCYCLEPOWAH
Also, seeing as Daisy *IS* a princess, and you were playing as Link in this tournament, I know exactly what to say in future commentary when Kefka or one of my Wave 6 drivers hits you with an item (either accidentally or intentionally, and the line may work better with accidental hits 🤔). 😈 -It probably works best if I'm using Link myself during Wave 6, which is the last hint you're getting on the line I have in mind.-

I'd say something about your sleep schedule but as I'm prone to screwing mine up as well, I'm in no position to talk. lol
1:12 I don't particularly mind Tick-Tock Clock on inside drift. I've actually time trialed the course on inward a bit. These bikes can do pretty well with some practice.
2:00 I see it very differently. If you played competitive you would catch on to specific behaviors players exhibit. What I saw here is that Stickman slowed down (and he did indeed slow down) in effort to trail me. I just noticed way too late and ran into his shell. While it definitely was an attempt to get rid of me, it didn't exactly ruin my race.
5:48 These are good points, but as I wasn't getting destroyed, I decided to keep the Master Cycle. It probably kept me out of trouble in more ways than one. Alternatively I could've also used Cat Peach/Tanooki Mario, but as I'm not fond of either of these alts, I refused to switch off of Link.
6:02 I didn't even see the banana until you pointed it out. Nice catch.
7:27 I just pick Random and pray that something else comes up that isn't what I didn't want to race on to begin with. As these things tend to go, Random proves to be "Not so Random" and picks the track I least want to play on. Maybe I should stop this and pick the "most bearable" track, even if I'm not particularly fond of my selection.
You learned a Baby Park strat? I just hang back for a while before really making an effort to take the lead at the end.
8:19 NO! ANYTHING BUT THE TOILET! NO!!!! LOL
10:17 & 10:35 I don't think there is a track I wouldn't choose over Squeaky Clean Sprint. Practically anything else will do! (As long as I'm not on inward I'll definitely pick things like Gorge or Melody Motorway). As for Bowser's Castle, yes, we need to race there. That was just robbery - and Bowser Castle races tend to be wild and fun.
11:34 That's two Blue Shell dodges I've failed recently. I don't get very many chances to dodge with shrooms so I think my senses have dulled because on both of them I was way too slow.
12:50 It was. I totally went off the rails there. I was just happy to break that losing streak. As I pointed out in the following race its been a while since I've won a race in one of these tournaments. Before Link's victory here, my last win came with Daisy Biddybuggy way back in week 11 on Excitebike of all tracks. It felt good to snap that streak.
14:12 I've learned that bagging is viable on Superbell Subway. Didn't plan on it, but did it.
15:40 Its actually been a long time since I've last raced on Moo Moo Meadows lol
17:44 And this stamp is just before Link hits a cow LOL
19:33 HE BETTER HELP! THIS IS TWICE I'VE HAD TO PLAY THIS TRACK ON INWARD (well, 3rd actually because Daisy had to deal with one on the Yoshi Bike before this) I swear, they picked this track because I was the only inside drifter in the room and my points were unusually high.
21:03 Better Donkey than me. lol
27:20 Had that Penguin got in my way I would've killed him.
      And lastly...
      WELL, EXCUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSE ME, PRINCESS! LOL

My sleep gets knocked out of the proper cycle way too easily, so unless/until I find some kind of miracle cure/prevention, it's just something I have to live with at this point.
      1:12
That's something I'll have to keep in mind when it comes to Wave 6 (or I could "secretly" time trial on inward with Ludwig or Mario as my driver before then, as they share stats with Kefka 🤡😆).
      2:00
I definitely have a blind spot when it comes to competitive, but even competitive players could run into circumstances that a casual eye sees accurately. Only Stickman knows the 100% truth about what happened here, and that's not changing unless he says something one way or the other.
      5:48
Sticking with Link on inward worked out for you, so it was definitely the right call to not switch driver or vehicle body in this tournament. 👍
      6:02
So you might have hit the 🍌 if you got the doubles like you wanted, but you also might have been able to slip through the trap like Ren did. Interesting alternate reality scenario, but sadly one that we'll never know how it would play out.
      7:27
I think Nintendo could do us all a favor and, at least in Tournaments and Worldwide/Regional lobbies, change "Random" to "None Of These 3". They probably won't, but it would be nice if they did.
As for the Baby Park strat, it should be pretty obvious. Bag for as many invincibility items as possible. Father Boo, Pity Bill, ⭐, any will be sufficient protection against the item chaos. Oh, and since I invoked Captain Bikke and you didn't laugh in response, you know what's coming. "It's poor form not to laugh at a pirate's jokes."
      8:19
We need to find a way to hit Alex with an item and sink him into the toilet. It's something he's said he wanted to happen to him from the moment we saw Squeaky Clean Sprint. 🤣
Imagine if I used my Toad's Turnpike time trial combo and unloaded triple reds on Alex at the right spot. Alternately, Jacob or zelda using Father Boo as their driver while doing so would be sufficient. 👻😆
      10:17 and 10:35
I always enjoy my Bowser's Castle races. I think I said this a long time ago, but my greatest heist prior to joining the GWA community was at Bowser's Castle. Final lap, glider section, double items waiting to be collected, using Huge Island, sitting in second place, I fire a red shell at first place and knock a Donkey Kong Biddybuggy into the lava. If that red shell doesn't hit, I still have 2 second-place items to try to snatch victory. But it did, so my win was pretty much assured afterward.
I probably didn't share what the details were until this specific comment, so I hope you enjoy. 😄
      11:34
Dulled senses and not remembering the exact frame in which the 🍄 dodge succeeds are how my last attempt failed. Dulled senses are pretty common on my end because of the fact that I don't even have a 🍄 in first very often.
      12:50
      #GoLink
That is all that need be said now.
      14:12
Unplanned bagging is how I ended up bagging on a lot of courses when I didn't even know what bagging was. 😆
Now unplanned bagging happens much less often for me because I know what some of the bagging courses are, but when unplanned bagging *DOES* happen for me, it's definitely a hard bag.
      17:44
That's why I timestamped this one, and it was the perfect opportunity to make a Golden Girls reference as well. 😉
      21:03
Better Donkey than almost anyone. The only exceptions I can think of are Toad and anyone who intentionally picks LA when I'm in the room.
      27:20
But would the 🐧 stay dead? Probably not. 🤔
I don't know which moment of happiness was greater.
      1. your joy upon winning Paris and snapping the losing streak
      or
      2. my joy upon seeing that you knew the line for future commentary (but I probably would have typed it out differently for consistency purposes, as holding the U key to show the emphasis can be inconsistent 🤣)
