    Correction: Ineos deliberately doesn't call it a snorkel as it doesn't provide ANY additional water wading benefits. It's a raised air intake which is supposed to help take in cleaner air being up high above dust. The wading depth is exactly the same whether you get the raised air intake or not.

    Congratulations on all the content you guys supply which brightens UK dull winter days considerably. I enjoy the landscapes too. Totally get the point of comparisons and some of your observations but the Grenadier was not designed to be the ultimate 4WD but designed for endurance and reliability ( please keep it for a long time ! ) and is a work truck for commercial operators primarily in whatever area they operate. It needs a 4WD capability but is not designed to be the ultimate off roader. Maintenance, reliability of all drive line components and back up is where you guys can really help. Try and break it in normal hard work!! The mechanical lockers( like the centre diff in previous Defenders) will hang on until they detect all grip is restored. They are again designed to operate in that manner so that torque wind up does no damage on a sudden disengagement. They may not operate in a manner that is as good as some competitors but what is the durability? Si.

  • @gt90guy
    @gt90guy Před 2 měsíci +3

    Roman, dude. You don’t turn your wheel to lock the diffs. You also have to be rolling to get any mechanical device to match the gears up and lock. User error 100% with the locking of the diffs.
    Unlocking doesn’t matter so much, but the sensors and computer were the reason the unlocking was “delayed.” You were probably unlocked immediately but the sensors needed to register that rotational speed change.
    Slow down a bit and think about it before you say “it’s disconcerting.”

    I think it would be interesting to see a comparison of locking speed on rollers with different 4WDs. I suspect the ford is simply indicating it’s locked before it’s actually locked. 4 wheels on rollers would be a good comparison test and eliminate uneven terrain variables.

    Roman/Kase/Alex great video as always, any new vehicle to anyone especially new on the world market has a learning curve to it , agreed that sure it should be intuitive on the other hand you get some education and that is always good and fun at the same time when it comes to off roading, for lift kits Eibach has a set of springs available that a cousin over in Ireland has on order for is Grenadier , the springs give you 1 1/4" lift front/rear axles for about $600 U.S. pretty reasonable and very high quality product, my guess is you guys will want a bigger lift than that if your going to do one, that would give between 11-12" of ground clearance pretty sweet really and tires might give you another half to one inch, a dealer here in Canada said for off road tires that the KM3's are a better tire than the KO2's, just a persons opinion really , I look forward to this video series and hope that the Grenadier as your newest long term member of the TFL fleet is kept around for a year or so, only time will tell, your $80,000.00 is $108,000.00 CDN dollars which puts it out of range for me , maybe a used one in the future 👍you always bring it home, TFL gettin er done

    • @nirfz
      @nirfz Před 3 měsíci

      Wanted to write _but it's heavier_ initially. Then tried to research actual weights and found something i don't understand:
      For years the Tacoma was a bigger, heavier version of the Hilux with the same components, which makes the drivetraincomponents less durable. (more stress than in the Hilux)
      But this one, not only seems to not be a grown Hilux underneath, but as you said the same with the LC.
      Now, at the company i work for, we have a LC "Prado" from 2022 and it's weight ready to drive is higher than the curb weight Toyota gives for the new Tacoma. I don't understand how that should work given the size difference... (there's a weight difference of around 300kg and our LC doesn't even have a rear locker and has a manual gearbox)
      No car has ever gotten lighter... So if that part breaks at the lighter Car (Tacoma) it indeed makes it seem a bad omen for the upcomming LC...

    • @lunamaria1048
      @lunamaria1048 Před 3 měsíci +2

      @@nirfz The third gen Tacoma was not based on the platform used for the Hilux, as many people think, and has similar platform as the 5th gen 4Runner, GX 470 and current outgoing LC Prado. It used a more premium platform for the North American market and was always meant for North America's "lifestyle" type buyer, doing light work and light recreation use, where the Hilux is built on a simpler platform to be easier to maintain and last a long time in rough and rugged countries with harsh climates. deserts and jungles, including 3rd world countries.
      Toyota has switched to what they call a "global platform" meaning every body-on-frame truck/SUV will share the same platform. So the new 2024 Tacoma, 2024 LC (250) Prado and 2025 6th gen 4Runner will ALL share the same platform and engine, which is a huge mistake IMO. If one fails, they all fail.
      In the past, Toyota would use stronger parts on anything with the Land Cruiser name, because that logo is their reputation, but with a new younger CEO changing everything Toyota stood for, to be cheaper, I have a feeling Toyota is about to start a very significant decline.

    • @nirfz
      @nirfz Před 2 měsíci

      @@lunamaria1048 Very Interesting.
      I would not have expected the last gen to be based on the "Prado", as we have one of those in use at work (it doesn't get the Prado name here, it's just named Landcruiser as we don't get the bigger ones like AUS does), and it doesn't have the same 4wd/awd system. There is no 2wd option in the LC-"Prado" we have, for example.
      It's a permanent awd with lockable center diff and low range. (our employer did not tick the rear diff option)
      And the same is true of the upcomming Landcruiser "Prado". It also has no 2wd switch option.
      So as far as i understand, the thing that supposedly broke, shouldn't be present in the Prado front diff then.
      Can't say much about the quality ideas of Toyotas new boss, but if we go by what we can see with the GR Yaris, they do want to improove and make more reliable. (at the presentation of the new GR Yaris, they showed parts the customers and good Old Mr. Toyoda in his hobby racing were unsatisfied with, and they changed.)

      @@nirfz Ohh, you aren't in North America. I'm in Canada. That makes sense. Even Canadians and Americas think the Tacoma is a western Hilux lol. I'm in Canada and there has not been a Land Cruiser sold here since the 80 Series was canceled here, in the 1990s. We didn't even have the big 200 Series LC like the US did (until recently), because it was too expensive to sell after import tax. We got the Prado as a mid-sized luxury Lexus GX, The FJ Cruiser and 5th 4Runner were both the exact same vehicle under the body and also used the same platform as the outgoing Prado.
      I'm Japanese and my dad had a corporate career with Toyota Motor Corporation (Japan) for 17 years, before retiring and bringing is to Canada around the year 2000. He has predicted Toyota will face a very significant decline, because of bad choices and forced government emissions regulations. Their reputation is dependent on reliability. Toyota was affordable and would last 25 years. Now they are expensive and getting more complicated.
      I am getting the GX 550 Overtrail, when it releases. I have had an FJ Cruiser (still own it since I was 16) and owned two 5th gen 4Runners, which are the exact same vehicle under the body. I am getting the Lexus GX 550 Overtrail, because the new LC is a turbocharged 4 cylinder mated to a hybrid system, in a big heavy body-on-frame truck. That is ok for cars, but heavy body-on-frame trucks need 6 cylinder, at least.
      As for the Yaris, that is a totally different type of vehicle and much lighter platform. It is easy to make them reliable. Unfortunately for their body-on-frame trucks Toyota is currently putting all their eggs in one basket and banking off their reputation, with their new "global platform" method for all of their body-on-frame trucks and SUVs all using 1 platform and every midsized will have just one turbocharged 4 cylinder (some with hybrid, like the 2024 LC), and the GX 550 and all of their full-sized SUVs/trucks will all use the same turbocharged V6.
      Toyota will have the Tacoma, new LC and 2025 4Runner all sharing the North American market, all the same vehicle with same platform and engine, with varied and expensive prices. The only difference between the Tacoma and new LC will be the hybrid system in the LC. The 6th gen 4Runner will just be an SUV Tacoma. Current models have different engines to make them distinct. Toyota is supposed to be affordable and reliable, but their vehicles are getting more complex and overpriced, losing sight of what they are supposed to be.
      This is not a good move for Toyota.

Even with air bags and potential repairs and high maintenance. At least you know that thing is doing what you tell it to do. AND it has a much friendlier on road presence.(steering) And I totally agree with you about the Bronco being a better choice for that kind of terrain. The IG is cool by design. Semi practical by space. Sort of capable when things are working as advertised. As a tractor rig, it is ok. But at 80K, you are spending a lot for something that less expensive rigs can do better.

    Watching the diff locking sequence was painful. These guys are clueless or don't bother to read. Usually (especially with new cars) you need to crawl a bit forward and turn the steering wheel a bit to align the gears in the lockers and then they click in. And you have to make sure they are engaged one by one. It's not that hard. In the first few drives this is a bit finicky but after a few uses this will get easier as the gears adjust. It seems modern cars where you just press a button and they do everything for you have spoiled drivers.
