I don't like how slow and clumsy the movement starts, but I'm so glad this is on game pass because I'm enjoying it.
This is one of the best metroidvanias I've played in a long time, it's basically the M rated metroid we've always wanted. You can tell this game has a lot of love put in it. The dialog, the characters, gameplay, story, just about everything, the mall could have been a bit more diverse but the connection to the characters and works now than make up for that. And the mechanics, so many hidden mechanics that make the game so much fun to play, even to this day it seems like every time I start up the game I find a new mechanic I had no idea was impacting my play through. So many hidden details that you only notice by chance that can change the whole way you play the game, like how if you kill slimes at point blank range or with a melee weapon your gun gets covered in slime preventing it from overheating, or bosses that only show up under very specific circumstances, like the giant robot skull, I was so proud of my self when I finally figured out how to get it to fight me. Literally the only gripe I had about the game was the amount of backtracking I had to do, but the game makes up for that by spawning random mini bosses that only appear on certain treks and new characters to meet along the way that you find by pure chance more than makeup for the back tracking and even make you look forward to it. It's still no hollow Knight, but you can tell just as much love was put into it. I am so glad I played this game
I feel like this game has been in development since I got back into gaming. Really excited to see this one through.
Yea it’s had a long history for sure
I played it last weekend for many hours. Surprisingly Metroid feeling in a charming and chilling way. Great world building and sweet dialogs.
I'm having a blast with this game, the atmosphere is excellent, graphics are beautiful and the gameplay and difficulty is very well paced. I don't wanna say its better than Dread but right now the fun factor in this game is even higher for me. I strongly recommend it!
Metroid Dread is probably a better game overall. But it's primarily an action game and doesn't really feel like Metroid (as in Super Metroid). Ghost Song captures the atmosphere of what I think is a Metroid game better than Dread did.
@@gustaveriksson113 doesn't feel like metroid? You must not know much about metroid
@@johndodo2062 Well I've played every game extensively and I've been a top 3 speedrunner on Super Metroid (20 years ago, but still).
If you think it feels like Metroid, that's fine. I don't.
But Dread has a shitty OST xD
Can't do it with this one. You take too much damage from enemies and your gun only shoots for a few seconds before losing the majority of it's power and you're reduced to either close combat or moving away waiting for the cool down. I can see how others might enjoy the challenge, for me it's just tedious. Beautiful game, good controls.
Same, the audience who enjoys this game is going to be very niche. It actually gets worse as you progress too, after each boss bottle, MORE enemies spawn, slowing you down even more. The game takes 3 times as long to beat when compared to Symphony of the Night, Super Metroid, Ori series, Hollow Knight, Prince of Persia the Lost Crown, etc. Not because it has sooooooo much to explore and such an in depth story, because it just takes that long to patiently move through the levels. Like this CZcamsr himself states, he compares it more to Dark Souls which isn't even a Metroidvania.
It looks weirdly...slow? Like that the pc and enemies frequently stop in their tracks before considering their next action. Not sure how to explain it.
Looks great, sounds great. Plays really slow. I expect the better games to be difficult but when you die, nobody wants to spend that much time making your way back there. Especially with a shitty map like that
loving this game so far its like metroid meets hollow knight
Does the game get better? It’s got nice atmosphere and chill music, but gameplay is lacking at least so far. I see the high scores and fan comments, so just asking to know how long until more is going on.
I remember reading about this game years ago and I was interested. Glad it's finally done. I think I'll pick it up. I heard it has some issues running on Switch. Think I'll get it on PS4 or Xbox One.
Personally so find this game more lasting to me than Dread, all the interactions with the characters makes it more memorable. I haven’t replayed Dread since the first time I beat it, and I’m already replaying this one on game+.
What I love the most is how you encounter bosses and characters randomly through backtracking. You also have side quests without knowing about them. To me this game is 8/10. It just needs more content now, maybe DLC or something like that. Hope Matt White comes with more!
Dread pisses on this game. In absolutely every way. This is comparable to the Metroid games like Fusion. Comparing this to Dread is laughable. Like a Ferrari vs a Pinto
I was really hyped by this game and I've been playing it for two days, and jumping is weird, it's bad, you never land where you want and often fall a lot of distance or don't make it to the platform taking damage. I think this is a stain in a really appealing game.
Good point!
Out of curiosity, how are you playing the game, Switch, PC, etc? I found the constant stutters and poor control response on Switch to be very frustrating, but since switching over to playing it on PS5 its been very smooth sailing.
@@adamluther5836 Pc for me, and it was really atrocious. Top or 2d place for worst controls i ever saw lol
@@adamluther5836 PC, I get a slow down when something explodes for the 1st time, but I guess is my hard drive
@@mantonioisc Sorry to hear. I haven't even powered on my aging gaming PC in about a year, but month after month, my Switch has been struggling even with classic style metroidvanias like this. I might need to look into a Steam Deck, otherwise I'm probably going to have to bite the bullet and finally upgrade my PC or wait for PS5 ports.
Ooofff... been looking forward to this. Glad to see it reaches expectations. Now I have to decide between getting it for Steam Deck or Switch Oled. Usually Switch is my go to for Metroidvanias, so probably big N.
Any fan of Metroidvanias will love this. It feels like a blend of Metroid and and more contemporary MVs like Hollow Knight. The combat and movement feels nice and exploration is good. Audio/visual presentation is great too, however it is quite a short game (Finished in 7 hours, 100% in around 10 hours for me, there is a NG+ too) and while it initially seems like it might be a challenge, the difficulty somehow becomes more trivial as you progress further. What's here is quality though.
what Metroid could have been.. this game is so dope Super Metroid Part 2
Great review per usual, playing it on game pass really good game deserves more attention.
Agreed!
Amazing as usual 💕
So excited for this one.
This looks great ❤️
Has anyone ran into not being able to aim with aim mode? I'm on pc. It just sticks to the default position for me. Controller.
Is there an easy mode?
had no idea this game was in development for so long, it does look really good!
Been enough criticism on this game where I believe-
So much of its beauty, ambience, danger, bleakness, loneliness & more seem lost in the conversation
I felt a bit frustrated, b/c this dev *absolutely* nailed the atmosphere & even mechanics (truly a great Metroid-Vania) yet…”could it have been *TRULY* great-
Absolutely could have been a legendary game, but where it may fall a little short cannot overshadow just how good the game still is.
Cool to see it getting more & more likes/nods cause this single developer? (I mean holy hell, “1 guy???”) he truly deserves it
Clunky, laggy controlls, artificial not rewarding backtracking leading to tedium. Same music tone pierce your brain. Bullet sponge enemies test your patience.
Just finished this game and i feel its a 6/10.
Always a pleasure seeing your reviews eitherway but really surprised there was no mention of the control issue
Yeah they must be friends with the guy that made the game or something. This game isn’t absolutely terrible, but it’s not nearly as good as the review makes it sound.
There’s a 100 better indie Metroid clones out there tbh.
I wouldn't call the controls laggy but they certainly aren't as tight as a Metroid game. Specifically with the free aiming for me, so I went with alt fires that made summons to blaze through any of the two difficulty spikes I found. I enjoyed the melee even if its a bit too simple not being able to aim the spear and such kinda ruins those for me, but the sword arcs and works just fine on bosses and all the tiny annoying flyers the game has. As far as enemies being bullet sponges though, I mean kinda? I'm led to believe every time you advance the story to the next "day" every mob levels up, so if your not powering up your damage stat you get left behind a bit. that being said every mob drops little xp and stores also demand tons of souls to clear out, which I did, ended up auto farming some to buy everything so I could feel I 100ish percent ed the game (I bugged out a boss so couldn't get all the mods _--) I might go back to a new game plus and see how I feel about the game, but losing my souls one time might have padded the game out for me too much, I don't think the mode adds anything to the game and only adds frustration, but that being said I think the game is pretty solid, I like the world and the lore building, wish it had more fast travel spots though, more so since you gotta check on NPC sidequests everyday and they could be anywhere on the map --_
For real. After playing it I give it a 3/10 actually. This game is complete ass. He's just trying to get browny points with studios I think
holy 9.5 i hear ya, ill buy it.
They giving 9/10 to every game 😂
@@IIIiiiDAWiiiIII literally, this game is complete ass. He's just trying to get browny points with studios
@@ToastyToastiness indeed.
It’s a great game but I was kinda disappointed with the ending.😓
Cool review, but I was not digging the BGM in this video, especially at the volume that it was at.
Playing it on game pass. It's not quite grabbing me; I think I'm just not in the mood for a metroid derivative right now.
If you haven't tried it yet play Signalis. Absolutely floored me with how good it was.
This game was an enjoyable experience. It's like a mix of Metroid and Ori.
Pros:
Mesmerizing music/soundtrack
Interesting characters with backstories
Beautiful backgrounds and lighting effects
Cons:
Wall jumping at first felt off until you get the double jumping upgrade and get used to it.
The ending was underwhelming. I think they could have had some sort of a better resolution given the time we spent getting to know the crew than just saying Goodbye Blue.....( it felt abrupt )
There is a lot of backtracking but I think it adds to the sense of mystery and exploration however there were times when I felt stuck and it was frustrating.
My experience overall was calming/frustrating/beautiful/challenging.:)
I think everyone should at least play this game once because it has its moments.
Played for a couple hours, found it to be a boring Metroid Clone with some Soulslike influences. But it does nothing as good as a Metroid or Souls title.
The enemy designs as well as the world are generic, enemies are bullet sponges, the controls are awkward.
At least it was on GamePass.
I’ve heard the same and some other complaints that made me less than excited. i’ve heard exploration was lackluster at best. And that there is a ton of padding.
finally got one right... however the real story is not about the ship wreck its about jezecoe
Sadly I made the mistake of purchasing on my switch instead of Xbox and it runs terribly. I plan on buying for my Xbox eventually to actually enjoy the game without performance issues.
This game rates as a "meh" imho. The backgrounds are nice to look at for the most part, but the character and enemy art and animations appear flat, weakly designed and stiffly animated. A lot of the music is bland imo too. I was really hoping for more with this game, because it sounded like a no brainer that ticked all the boxes. All of those negatives aside, they have a promising start here though, and a lot of potential. I'm willing to bet their next offering is going to be miles ahead of this one.
😎🤙👍👍
I enjoyed this game but 9.5/10 is a Mile stretch, I’d give it a 7/10 and wouldn’t mention it in the same breath as Metroid Dread, definitely a good game but I think it’s been slightly overhyped imo
They gave this 💩 9.5? 😂
This game is complete ass. After playing it I give it a 3/10 actually. The story I give a 2/10. He's just trying to get browny points with studios I think with his high ratings.
since you love story so much you should know the real story in the game is about jezicoe who split himeself into 3 beings jezicoe the ghost saymund and contruct. hence the name of the game ghost song........
