Spiritfarer, I will never forget. I find it difficult to talk about it. I played it during lockdown. I was unable to go to my mother's funeral in the US and within 6 months I had to put my 14 yr old cat to sleep because of stomach cancer. While coping with grief it was cathartic.
Months later when the dlc was starting to be released with an article about Stella, I was sobbing. It's a beautiful game and is one of my favourite games. It's rare that after playing a game years ago it still has the ability to make me cry.

It’s crazy how things can be so elevated by what’s happening at the time in your life, animal crossing was my all time favorite game from 2001 and getting a switch for Christmas from a friend I bawled my eyes out and to play it during one of the worst times of my life completely changed me and opened up a whole world of healing through games

Oh crikey, when you said you said goodbye to your friends and that you'd meet up in Animal Crossing.... That really got me!
I met friends online during the pandemic thanks to the game and then played with them and had loads of fun. Although I eventually got burnt out after about 1500 hours, I can't imagine ever sinking that many hours into a game again. It'll always be very special.

I was skeptical at first because of graphics but I’ve never been hooked on anything in the way that Stardew Valley hooked me when I finally got into it. Also TOTK & BOTW just take you into a whole other world and is just a breathtaking game. Spiritfarer is also fully worth every minute of play time. I will always sing praises to the game Okami, not originally for Nintendo consoles but the port to switch was beautifully done and I honestly cannot recommend it enough to anyone who loves story driven games with a gorgeous art style. I am so happy Pokémon Arceus was on this list! I feel like a lot of diehard Pokémon fans didn’t like this game for whatever reason, but this was really the first game I didn’t feel bored with if that makes sense… I loved the open world feel, the time warp, and the whole exploration… I really hope that they make another Pokémon game like this!
I am also very happy to see spiritFarer on here… I am one of those people that will say this is also one of my all-time favorite switch games… I loved the map and navigation of this game, I also loved the customization of the main character, and though I have issues with death and grief, this really helped me through all of that in a way that made me cry every time I had to say goodbye and let out my emotions

    • @aimeecreative
      @aimeecreative Před 6 měsíci +1

Well now that I see it’s on the list, maybe it’s not as many as I thought that didn’t like it! I think when it first came out some didn’t like it because it was so different than other Pokémon games? I will say it can be hard! If you die (or black out) during a battle…you can loose a lot of your stuff which had me a few times shut off the game and stand in a corner for a few minutes 🤣 I love the open world feel of it and then the different mounts you get…it felt more like an open world rpg then any other Pokémon games…I really don’t care about collecting all the different types of Pokémon so I didn’t really worry too much about that but it’s really the most fun I’ve had in a Pokémon game to be honest…highly recommend you buy!

My husband got us both a Nintendo Switch for Christmas of 2021. I absolutely LOVE it! It helps me to escape when I need it. I do have ACNH, Breath of the Wild, and a lot of other games (most of which are on my Switch). I also really love Disney Dreamlight Valley. Sooo much fun to play. I do have Hogwarts Legacy for PC, but I'd like to get it on my Switch too. Maybe when it comes out and gets cheaper I will get it for myself. I love playing Wyld Flowers. So enjoyable and relaxing. It really makes you feel close to the characters in the game and that makes it more enjoyable.
I also love being able to play games on the N64, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Game Boy, Game Boy Advanced etc on the Switch. When the Switch 2 comes out, it will probably be a while before we get that one. Hopefully they will make it backwards compatible because that would just be absolutely ridiculous and insane NOT to do that.

@@Wonder_Woman21 I have not played Xeno 3, but I am going through Xeno 2. From my perspective, Xenoblade games a quite more complex in terms of gameplay, because it's a variation on a real-time combat system.
Three Houses has the classic turn-based tactics gameplay, where you can also save in the middle of battles when it's your turn. In that sense, I preferred Fire Emblem.
Both games have long expansive stories with fantasy and magic, and world-changing events. But I think Xenoblade's story feels more complete with a bit more knowledge of previous games, while Fire Emblem games tend to stand alone more in comparison. :) Hope this helps!

The home base and pets are definitely cozy, but for me the coziest part is playing co-op with my boyfriend. (This is his account btw. He got me watching youtube videos). I carry him a little lol, but it’s so fun to play together and have the same goal. I think co-op is much less common than competitive with multiplayer games. I also love how buttery smooth the ui and overall local/online experience is with this game! I was very impressed how this runs on switch, even with a full online team, and how seamless and easy it is to initiate local/online play. Animal crossing needs to take notes😆

While understandable, it might also give you something you need. You can always try and if it's too much, shelve it again until later.
But I think it might give you a little bright spot while also moving through grief. 💜 Well wishes to you.

I think follow your instincts, the only parts that are emotional are the first characters attached to the MC. One characters arc end made me stop playing it was too sad and I ain’t even grieving

I think if I had to list ten "must-have" games on the Switch in no order (with some variety in genre), they would be:
    1. Stardew Valley (farming sim). Still the most bang for your buck in the Switch's entire catalog imo.
    2. Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (action-adv). Could have also put BOTW here, but Tears really just perfected a lot of the former's already minor issues.
    3. The House in Fata Morgana: Tears of the Revenant Edition (visual novel). Not really a cozy story in the slightest unless you love a tragic read in the vein of "Jane Eyre ghost story meets the Canterbury Tales," but one of the most impactful stories I've ever read in any medium period. There's a reason it was the highest ranked Switch release on Metacritic for a decent while (and is currently ranked No. 3)
    4. Return of the Obra Dinn (mystery). Just go in blind if you haven't played it, one of the most fun surprises on the console. Loved playing this with a friend as we tried to untangle the missing pieces (yes we had to pull out some actual pen and paper lol).
    5. Hades (rougelike). I usually hate rougelikes and find them either incredibly stressful or boring after the first few rounds. This was such a game changer for me, and has enough of a story to keep me emotionally invested.
    6. Disco Elysium (RPG, mystery). Like Obra Dinn, its hard to explain this one without giving too much away. I also feel like Fata Morgana it has cozy mechanics (especially if you're a big reader), but I wouldn't really call it cozy at all.
    7. Spiritfarer (task manager) - Honestly besides Fata Morgana, this had the next biggest emotional impact on me - talk about gentle storytelling still packing a wallop of a punch.
    8. Portal 2 (puzzle). The Switch has quite a few older classics but if I had to give a spot to one, I'll give it to the genre I haven't covered yet haha
    9. Bug Fables (RPG, adventure) - As someone who was really missing classic Paper Mario, this hit the spot for me. A cute world, fun characters, and a combat style that can be as easy or complex as you want. Especially when so many of it's similarly-stylized peers like Outbound Ghost fell so short.
    10. [Insert Party or Comfort Game of Choice] Maybe its Mario Kart, Smash Bros, or something like Unpacking or Strange Horticulture. Whatever game brings you joy, this is the spot to put it!

When I saw your post I should have just said stardew valley!
Not only did I purchase the game twice ,once for PlayStation and once for switch so I could have a mobile file
It's a game I broke the exception of buying a digital game to begin with as I prefer physical games
So that's saying something and it's definitely one of my top 10 favorites for sure as I can always go back and play for hours and still have so much to customize and do

Animal crossing was released here on my birthday 🎂. So I bought it as a present to myself, and it reintroduced me to gaming. A luxury I had let slide to meet the demands of work. Let work take over after the pandemic again, and what game reminded me that I need a break? New horizons.... Though I very quickly picked up a new Pokemon game. And now I'm back to making some time for me most days to play, whatever.

Pokemon Arceus has beed my favorite game on switch, the dinamic of creating the first Pokedex, to being able to explore and cath pokemon while they are unaware and not having to battle every single time, and the drama of the pokemons and tryint to return them their normal self...just... absolute chef's kiss. Also the only pokemon game that i have been able go finish fully, story and Pokedex. Currently playing Pokemon Scarlett and I am liking it but for me, after Arceus...it just doesn't beat it. Also how beautiful the world in Arceus looks 😍...and Scarlett for me it has been glitchy which is pissing me off.

Xenoblade. . .the fact we have the full trilogy + their extended stories is just amazing.
Splatoon - as someone who doesn't play shooters. . .>.> I love this series.
Animal Crossings helped me stay sane when there was so little else to do.
I'd stay Stardew, but I play it more on PC than anything.
Legends Arceus was amazing, and they'd better do something like it again.

  • @Zodia195

I can't believe I didn't watching this video until now since I am a Nintendo nut. Like there is a reason why I am waiting to go to Universal Studios Florida, it's because I am waiting for the new part there that'll have Nintendo Land there lol. Nintendo is the only console I'll automatically get because I always get games on it. At least when it comes to home consoles. I even got the Wii U lol. My fav Switch game so far . . . . it's really hard to pick. Longest hours for sure belongs to Animal Crossing, but it's not my fav. I think I am going to have to go with Miitopia so far because it's such a fun game and pretending I am going on this adventure with friends and family is just a blast lol.
Here's how I feel about the games mentioned here, that I've played-
ACNH- I definitely had a blast that first year because of the things mentioned and it continued on through 2021, but I found myself addicted to the game (which is never a good sign) due to certain things and it became less fun to play. The last free update and that Happy Home Paradise did get me to play the game for another 6 months before I stop playing cold turkey and even deleted my whole save file (which hurt but I saw no other solution because I knew if I were to pick the game up again, it be a huge guilt trip). So yeah amazing game, but I don't think I'll ever get another AC game because of certain things.
LoZ:BotW- I got the game and while I did like it, its lowest rank on Zelda games I've finished. It has my fav story in the franchise, but I didn't like how big it was and it didn't feel like a Zelda game to me personally. I was originally going to get TotK, but I started asking myself if I really wanted to pay the hefty price for the game when I wasn't a big fan of the gameplay and size of game was more than double. So I did watch an LP of the game, amazing story and happy to see Ganondorf back, but it wasn't enough to convince me to get the game, so I'll be skipping out on it. My brother played the game (it's one of the few gaming franchises he's still interested in, he's busy with work, marriage, and fatherhood) and he didn't like the gameplay either, said it felt too tedious and he's one of the few people I trust their opinion on. So while I am happy people enjoy this game, I do pray in the future Eiji and his team go back to 3D Zelda roots more. FYI, my fav Zelda game to this day is Gamecube's version of Twilight Princess.
SDV- I never played this game on the Switch, I still play it on Steam. It's still my fav farming game and one of my fav cozy games (Coral Island might replace that though, I don't know), but this game just has a special place in my heart because it got me into the Indie game scene. I can't wait to get the cookbook next year (already pre-ordered it), and looking forward to 1.6 update as well as Eric's next game, Haunted Chocolatier.
LM3- First Luigi's Mansion 3 and yeah I love it. Such a blast exploring, it made me laugh, and I enjoyed most of the puzzles. It did have it's frustrating moments, but it definitely felt like it fitted within the expansive Mario universe.
Spiritfarer- I absolutely love this game. It really stands out from other 'sims' games. While it didn't make me cry, it did make me feel. My fav chars are Gustav, Daria, and Alice (in that order). Game play is so fun and it felt like a fun combo of simulation and platforming.
SMB Odyssey- Amazing Mario game, but similar to BoTW- my only complaint was how big it was at times. Still it did feel like a Mario game. I don't know how to rank it against other SMB games though, but Mario 64 is still my fav in this particular franchise. Fav Mario game in general though will always be Super Paper Mario.
Eeowna, minor correction- FE:3H is technically a tactical RPG, not turned-based. Sorry, JRPG nerd here. Tactical can be turned-based (just like 3H), but it's more complicated because it's like chess, you have to position your chars in the best locations, so it requires more 'thinking'.
My youngest brother (not the one who played ToTK) love gaming, but he mostly plays on the XBox. That being said, he does have a Switch, and the game he played the most was Monster Hunter Rise (when our internet is down, he'll play that game). He really likes it.
I do hope that when the next Nintendo console comes out (be it Switch 2 or something else), I pray it has backward compatibility. It's one reason why I loved the Nintendo Wii so much, because I could play my Gamecube games on it (Wii's still my fav Nintendo console for that reason).
