This may sound controversial to some, but I was really disappointed by Paleo Pines. The dinos are really cute, but I expected the game to have more substance and a storyline to it. I didn’t expect it to be a game mainly for kids, I guess. I stopped playing it midway for these reasons. I feel horrible for saying that because so many people seem to love it, and I honestly wish I loved it as much as everyone else seems to, but I think my expectations may have been too high, initially, that I could never really appreciate it for what it was afterward.😔😞

I think GameFreak got complacent. They know the games will sell well, so they don't put a lot of effort into making the games good. Since playing BotW and TotK, I've gone back and started playing the older games on NSO. Like a lot of games, I just google when I get stuck.

    • @MoeRenai
      @MoeRenai Před 2 měsíci +6

I think it’s more an issue of Game Freak having an expectation of putting new games out at an unreasonable pace, so that the anime and merchandising sides of the brand have more content to work with. Game development takes time and the Game Freak devs have expressed multiple times over several years that they want to be more creative with their projects. They’re a much smaller team than you’d expect so, with them putting out games at the rate they do, it makes sense that we wound up with a title where the lack of needed dev time really shows in multiple areas. Usually executives are the ones to blame for rushing the sale of an unfinished project and luckily the complaints about quality seem to have been much more heard with Scarlet and Violet than previous entries.
I was actually super relieved and excited to see during this year’s Pokémon Day stream that we aren’t expecting a new console game until sometime next year. This may be wishful thinking but I’m hopeful that it may be a sign that they’re going to start giving the devs more time to create and better polish their games moving forward. This last point is largely speculative but I think the anime finally dropping its focus on Ash and shifting to a new group of protagonists might be a big factor in potentially allowing the devs to invest more time and effort on future games; with an entirely new group of characters to follow, the anime could revisit past regions and still feel fresh (thus not keeping the anime’s content reliant on a constant supply of new games) 🙏

I agree with fasion dreamer, I was so hyped and then let down. I said to friends that it gave me vibes of a mobile game (how empty the world is, the 'multiplayer', the gatcha system etc) and honestly it still gives me that with how events work in the game (you get a few quests, get gems and then you get the next lot of quests) they all give the vibe that there was meant to be microtransactions but they decided not to implement them.
I also could not get into splatoon 3!
And you have convinced me to keep waiting on coral island, I do actually have plenty of games to keep me going and after being let down by a few games in a row that i was hyped for (for the king 2, pokemon violet and fasion dreamer) I very much brought back my comitment of not preording games and waiting to see what the final product is.

    • @weebsquit347

This is a big problem with matchmaking. It was worse on launch. You'd go up against players that completely demolish you.
I'd say I performed well in Splatoon 2. I managed to reach X Rank on nearly all modes. Once 3 rolled around, it was loss after loss.
It's definitely gotten better, but it's still an issue, especially on Anarchy battles. I don't know what happened for the matchmaking to be like this.
I somehow managed to reach S+ and unlock X Battles. It feels more in line with Splatoon 2. So I'm even more confused.

    • @cloudy_xDD
      @cloudy_xDD Před 21 dnem +2

I think now it kinda has more differences but even with that I’ve found the competitive aspect in just regular matchmaking insane. It is not beginner friendly, I don’t care what anyone else says, I have over 500+hrs in the game and I still feel like I’m hitting walls in matchmaking and I’m not “good enough” yet.
I can only imagine people picking up this game trying to figure it out and then realizing everyone in anarchy and turf are out for blood and do not care if you have just started playing.

Link's Awakening surprises me, kind of. With these older style Zelda games it basically comes down to talking with every character and reading any sign you come across to progress the game. I agree about the price vs its length and the fact that this the 3rd iteration of the game. But it is a complete remake unlike the first two versions. And the dungeon builder is fun as well and if you have the amiibo you could share your own dungeons with other players and play theirs.

There is a game I do suggest for people who have grown bored of the farming simulator cozy games, which is Ooblets. Now there is farming where you grow wacky as hell plants such as one thats a literal spring. But that isn't the main thing, now of course if you want to craft some items to do the missions it's crucial, however thats not the main mechanic. The main mechanic is the dance battles, where in a way its similar to card games since you literally have cards to use to win against the dance battle. This game's main thing is collecting ooblets, and interacting with different wacky as hell characters. the story is like almost 30 hours long for main story, while for the completionist it's 70 hours. It is currently 30 dollars on switch but on steam it is 20(theres a sale going on)

I do love the game but it feels like it's missing something I can't put my finger on.
I still love the game and recognize I just needed a break from it.
I think coming in with fresh eyes to a finished game would have been so magical but that's not where I'm at. 😅

Same, I was also a backer. I felt that cleaning up the ocean was very rewarding, until my 4th or 5th playthrough, at which point it just became menial and repetitive. I wanted so much more! I loved the concept of a farming life sim that actually included real-looking adult characters, not some cute little chibis that really made my stomach turn at the thought of marriage and kids...as kids. I wanted more meat, a longer, more complex storyline that was fully fleshed-out, not bits and pieces. It felt, and still feels, incomplete. I finished cleaning up the ocean but there was no closure with the big commercial company, limited depth to the characters and interactions between them, no life in the "life-sim." I put it down. I had to. On to other games, to fill the void until I'm ready to pick up my diving suit again...probably a year or so from now.

I got Fae Farm on sale after playing the demo and I don't regret it at all! I also got the DLC for free on my Switch as just an update.
I think that the game is really well designed and a lot of work has gone into it. I find it's my favourite game due to ease of use and my favourite visual style.
I wish I hadn't played through the storyline so quickly though. I loved it so much that I whizzed through it, then I did all the flower colours/palettes/wings, and now even though I love it, without the story quests and discoveries I don't find myself wanting to play anymore as just a farming sim. I also don't feel the need to do any of the job quests because the rewards are things I can get really easily. And the seasonal festival items run out eventually. The DLC while gorgeous, was super disappointing because the amulets for your pet critters are pretty much useless unless you're still completing the storyline. There's no incentive really aside from wanting to complete your almanac.
I wish there were more furniture options. The recent update did fix building mode not pausing the game, and it'll make flower breeding easier for people. I've never found the game glitchy on my OLED. They said their next DLC will address the issues with relationships and boring NPCs, but I really hope it includes more storyline and more goals or unique rewards. I need to be told what to do, and I need my dopamine fix!
I don't regret buying the game, I think it's magical and a lot of fun! I would like to play it again more slowly, this time with the critter amulets to assist.

However, I do agree that it should have only been like $30 instead of $60 at launch because it’s pretty slow when you start out and even after playing for a few hours you’d probably need a change of pace and switch to another game to break up the monotony. As I’ve played more and more, I’ve been able to unlock new hairstyles, eye colors and styles, etc. but again, it is NOT fast-paced. The two games I regret buying rn for my switch is Spells & Secrets and Palia. Spells & Secrets has very severe lag issues to the point it makes it hard to fight because there are so many things happening in one closed setting, I have to force enemies away from each other to get the game to run smoothly, and this makes it very difficult to fight bosses especially the ones who summon minions. Palia I feel like should have been a late 2024 maybe early 2025 port to the switch. The game is still in beta and there are plenty of issues on PC that make the game hard to play through already so having them port it onto the switch, a much smaller hardware full of these bugs and glitches and not to mention the severe quality drop, it feels like a big buying mistake. Here's hoping both will get better
Edit: ok ok yeah Palia is a free game my mistake but my statement still stands

It’s interesting to hear everyone’s different opinions on games. I agree with you and your thoughts on games the majority of the time, from loving No Man’s Sky to enjoying Wylde flowers so much I’m replaying all of it again just for the new update, but I like hearing opinions like these. Funnily enough, S/V and Fae Farm are some of my favorite switch games! (350 and over 100 hours respectively). I had so much trouble trying to get the shiny charm in Legend’s Arceus and Sword so I never shiny hunted in them much and I gave myself a headache trying to complete them. S/Vs story really drew me in and with the dlc (especially part 2) it made me feel like I’m discovering Pokémon all over again while seeing multiple regional forms side by side. It was also the first time I ever got the shiny charm since I had no one to play and trade with until now with my partner :) (we usually share games but I got a 2nd Pokémon game for him during Christmas so we could play the dlc together) fae farm I played with my partner the majority of the time and sometimes with his mom when it first went on sale. (I was *so* excited and he got the game just to join me) It’s a lot better if you focus on unlocking everything in the almanac like all flower colors, all job quests done, all outfits gotten, etc. It also helps if you have someone to play with. But as someone who loves watching things while playing games, they’ve been some of the easiest games to play for me, where I don’t have to focus on much at all

Oh I love fae farm, just hate we had to pay for a dlc we had no idea about on the switch when pc players didn’t

Oh *definitely*. It would’ve been so nice to at least have some idea of what the dlc was and then we can decide if it’s worth it. I was a bit disappointed with the first wave of the Fae Farm dlc too. Hopefully they’re working on something bigger for the next though! I’m hoping they add new things you can do with the sprites since I was sad when they fell asleep and you couldn’t talk to them again. (Especially with Neppy, they were so cute!) So here’s hoping!

Game length shouldn't matter if the game itself is good enough

As someone who used to only have enough money for one game every few months it absolutely matters to some! I will always mention it for that reason

Fae Farm DLC (Archi-pali-go) also adds trinkets for buddies.

You definitely hit the nail on the head with most of the games you mentioned. Mario Golf: Super Rush was definitely not a good game, but I preordered the physical copy and was able to trade it in days later. Maybe the only good thing that came from purchasing that terrible game was that I received the princess and Mario pins as a preorder bonus. Faefarm looked good on the surface in the trailers, but after purchase and play I too echo some of the things you mentioned about it in previous videos, as well as in this video.
Overall, I have scaled back quite a bit on purchasing games and enjoying the ones I already have. Thank you for the spot on video 👍🏾

I haven’t watched Coral Island gameplay before so I am so surprised it’s not a 2D game? I’m glad I watched this

I’m glad I was able to borrow link’s awakening from a friend along with Pokémon sword. LA was so short but fun. Sword was decent to play while i had COVID lol I would have never paid full price for either. I really want grab pikmin next.

The two Story of Seasons games from the 3ds (Story of Seasons 1 and Trio of Towns) were legitimately really good. I thought the art was really pretty and they brought some needed changes to the formula. Now we just get cutesy remakes. Feels like we're going backwards...

Have you ever played Harvestella? If you like games with a great story than I can really recommend it. The farming part is not that big but its there and I love the graphics, characters and places 😊

For Fashion Dreamer i agree mostly, while it looks good i think you need to see it as it is. It was never really advertised as a Style Savvy like game. While it does feel like you're just grinding a lot, i do have fun interacting with online players and creating outfits

    Incoming long comment!
I've got a soft spot for A Wonderful Life because it was the first Story of Seasons game I got. It wasn’t the first I played. That would be Save the Homeland, which is super barebones on the farming. In fact, it is more about progressing one of nine story lines to "save the homeland" from being destroyed and turned into a resort. I remember renting that game over and over again as a kid. It got a remake called Hero of Leaf Valley for the PSP that I would love a port for or a new game. I will reiterate that the farming is super barebones and the game is for only one in game year, but it saves what ending you got so you can get other endings. Also no marriage, but there is romance.
Anyway, I was hoping A Wonderful Life would have improved on the original more, but I still enjoyed myself, just not for full price. Also, changing the horse model along with making sheep/goats/ducks more "bubble" like while keeping the "realistic" proportions of the cows/bulls got under my skin more than I care to admit.
My long winded comment is to say, play Trio of Towns if you want a good SoS game if you haven't played it. It is probably the best and the characters are pretty interesting. I liked befriending them to see what scenes I can get with them. Fingers crossed that the new game will be more like it.

I was nailing it with Everdream Valley which felt like countryside heaven. However there are 2 things I dislike. One of them will be riding animals. The pigs have no control whenever you hitch a ride on them, the horses on the other hand have control and you can ride them saddleback or bareback however the framerate when you ride them is worse than Pokemon Scarlet/Violet.
The other thing is that after 50 hours of gameplay, I slept and saved and then play a minigame and after that, the game wouldn’t load.
