I’ve been a social media ‘influencer’ for about 5 years now, so you think I should know better than to compare myself to people I see online considering I know what goes on behind the scenes - but I still do it! So I can only imagine how it must feel for everyone else seeing these perfect lives, perfect bodies and perfect faces online. It’s almost impossible to not compare yourself negatively! So i’m making this video to draw back the curtains on what goes into getting that perfect ‘instagram influencer’ picture.
Here’s the thing; for every beautiful instagram picture you see, these 4 elements have come into play:
LIGHTING
ANGLES
CAMERA CONTROL
EDITING
Not to mention how many photo attempts it takes just to get the one good picture that goes up online! So please NEVER compare yourself negatively to influencers, because even INFLUENCERS don’t look like influencers in real life!
In this video i’ve mentioned the beautiful goddess that is Tammy Hembrow, here’s her social medias:
IG: @tammyhembrow
YT: • FOLLOW ME AROUND | vlog
I’m in no way hating on Tammy, I think she’s gorgeous! And I love that she’s confident enough to film herself in harsh natural lighting! Go girl!

you will never look like an influencer because they dont look like that themselves
True lol
Lmao this one sentence sums up the whole video.
Exactly 😂
She literally says that in the vid lol
hah yeah!!!
The saddest thing is that men scroll through IG and expect all women to look like that.
Anastasia Alekseeva honestly, their expectations are their problem 🤷🏼♀️
No need to cater to mens Expectations , take care of yourself and be there for yourself only
those “men” are not men... they are boys. real men wouldn’t do shit like that. they would love you and your body the way you are.
Womens fault. They create those perfect pictures for men.
I was at a family reunion before quarantine started, and I had to watch my cousins 13-15 year old boys and their friends,(my cousin is like 20 years older than me). They were talking about girls instagrams and saying that this girl, clearly FaceTuned, was “super hot” and of course I ignored it and moved on because that’s their business, but then they saw a pic of another girl from their school who looked nice, but they said she was ugly and I went off on all of them. Gen z’s expectations are waayyy too high. Do all kids think that someday they will marry women that look like Bella Hadid or something
“It took hours to look like Marilyn Monroe, even if you were Marilyn Monroe...”
L Wilde but u can’t even compare her to anyone today! I mean then there weren’t all this make up stuff today that I feel the tricks are like damn magic because I damn didn’t recognize my brothers gf day after at the breakfast table.
Marilyn was a true beauty! That’s why she is an icon.. and will be forever.. who will ever get near that again? With all the surgeries fillers and ect. Not that I’m against that everyone should do what they want with their body damn it have woman fought to have that right I’m just over them lying about doing even fillers ... like we are suppose to believe Kylie Jenner just grew up with a giant ass and boobs .. also what people are missing is young skin vs older. It’s so easy to oook so pretty when u are so young u barely need any make up so ofc make up makes it look flawless.. unless ofc u have some skin problems .
Sassy C She was a true beauty but she also had cosmetic surgery as well as a professional hair and make up artist. It would sometimes take them six hours to transform her from Norma Jean to Marilyn Monroe. When she didn’t have her make up on she could go unrecognized. There are many good books out there that have documented her metamorphosis.
😂😂😂
L Wilde exactly! I was going to say that she had plastic surgery like what haha
@@Flowersandshotguns Thank you! I feel like people idolize her too much, and they love calling her a "natural beauty." Not only did she have multiple plastic surgeries, but it took hours for hair, makeup, clothes that suited her body, etc.
Imagine if everyone starts posting unedited photos, what wonders it would do for everyone’s insecurities 💁🏽♀️
People would still have insecurities 💀
That’s all I do. I’m waiting till I turn 4O before I use filters.
I never once have I edited a photo of myself LOL what's the point?? when people see you in real life you're not going to look anything like that 😂 so just post a realistic photo of yourself and Wallah problem solved 🖤
@@vaultgirl42091 exactly mannn😂

Social media was/is always the same. You were just younger and didn't realize 🤷♀️ Sad but true...
Jéssica Alfenas well it wasn’t as mainstream as it is now & ppl didn’t even bother much to be “highly aesthetic”
Yea I’m afraid it’s always been like that just not as drama crazy
I still post what i want. If people dont like it they can unfollow me:)
People used to just have friends and people they keep on social media. Now it’s all about getting validation from strangers.
Here’s some advice everyone: Get over yourselves. I mean that in a nice way. Get over being obsessed with how you look and how others look because you are forgetting to live. Trust me. Get past trying to make yourself look flawless, focus on making yourself healthy and put your energy into living a fulfilling life. The rest of the world is waiting.
B-but but that's not profitable 😮

I needed to hear this. Thank you!
Best advice!
I always wonder why my foundation looks “bad” compared to influencers on CZcams even though they rave about how good it looks. Studio lighting. That’s the trick!
Same!! Like, why doesn't my skin look as smooth? Why is it cakey? And I'm even blessed with decent skin.
yesss, I was looking for this comment. I'm so happy to know now that the products I use aren't bad, that it is normal
Amen!
Exactly!! I do pretty light makeup, especially compared any influencer. But it always looks thick compared to those makeup gurus and I couldn’t figure out why. I’m kinda ashamed I couldn’t figure it out as I’m a trained designer so I should have known the tricks being used, but yeah.
I don’t have big pores so it looks similar to the influencers. My eyebrows on the other hand always look like cousins, not even sisters. :(
Sometimes I feel sorry for younger girls. I am older and never had to grow up with filtered women constantly being on the net.
You had filtered women in magazines and that was already a problem too, but with video filters available today: I must agree, younger women do have it worse -_-
I was a 90s teen and magazines were bad enough but now everyone seems to alter their looks. The problem is they then begin to believe they look like the altered pictures. I have avoided learning how to edit my photos as I know with my mental health it would be a bad idea. In the UK wr have reality stars who refuse to believe they look like unaltered paparazzi photos because they change their face their weight everything on their own photos. Suddenly you see a picture they didn't edit and they're 20lb heavier and look normal. Nothing wrong with that but for young girls they look up to these people and feel so depressed they don't look like that. You can even alter videos of yourself now I saw a video of James Charles where he had altered his face down to even his eyes.
Women were filtered on magazines. And bc there was a problem, still is a problem with skinny models influencing young people to have eating disorders.
Amen!
I am 26 and once took a look in a Magazine from the 90s. The pictures where edited but it it wasn't too bad, the models were much more natural and didn't have obvious surgery, all the women were much more reliable!
I went to a dermatologist once and I had told her that my skin texture and appearance was really bad. She examined my face with a magnifying glass under bright light and she told me my skin was fine. I was so shocked. I've spent so much time on social media that I forgot what real skin looks like.
Same here. I’ve been told by estheticians that I have beautiful skin and I’m just like ????
you just need friends irl
do you believe in Jesus? i love the cross in your name!! salvation is found in Jesus, praise be to GOD!
@@tijanabeska6270 no
I’ve had the same thing happen to me and I was also confused at first! We are all God’s beautiful creation and comparing ourselves to influencers and celebrities is so damaging! We all have beautiful skin regardless of what media says
Girl you're saving my mental health. I'm serious.
keep doing you 🧡🧡🧡
I HEAR YOU! HONESTY IS GREAT! WE ARE ALL GOD'S DAUGHTERS. I STRUGGLE WITH THIS, TOO. HANG IN THERE AND JUST BE BEAUTIFUL YOU, GIRL!
That “glass skin” trend is what ultimately ruined my self esteem as far as my skin went. I’ve spent years trying to achieve the unachievable.
Glass skin is achievable no offense but it doesn't matter
Exactly. The only people that can get that kind of skin are the few people who can afford the best skincare and procedures or who just have certain genes. It’s not most people no matter how they look on social media.
all my sunscreens so far gave me that look, and I hate it. 🤷♀️
impossible for me.

True 💯
Sssoooo trueee!!!💯 I’m a small beauty instagramer/youtuber and I had this momment when I feel so down and mentally drowned and veriiii insecure because of some issues going on (including bcs of this corona pandemic) then I tried to take a rest (being deactive instagram for 2 weeks) because I know I can’t unfollow my friends 🥺 (most of em are influencers and selebgrams) it’s our choice to love ourself or not 🥰💕
it sucks because i unfollowed all these people and they still show up on my explore page
brownie cat don’t look at the explore page for a while till you build up with different stuff after a while most of it will change on your explore after liking and following only other stuff i noticed
I honestly believed i did my makeup wrong for so long, I just didn’t understand how some people’s makeup is flawless. I was getting so frustrated at myself
Girl I- 😔
Girl sameeee😩😩
Summer right lol I’m like ok I bought full coverage so why are still here 🤣🤣🤣 smh this opened my eyes! I feel better
same
Yes, this! I didn't realize how MUCH makeup influencers and celebs wear to have photos taken. I wear a mid-range amount. Never wear foundation, only wear eyeliner for events, etc. Then I have pics taken I feel like I look like a foot, but it's only because more natural makeup doesn't translate the same on camera.
I found watching America's Next Top Model to be weirdly therapeutic because I was able to see how these models looked so different in their pictures vs in real life. It's such a shocking difference
I honestly thought you where so porelss , textureless , wrinkless on here it's a relief to see you have human skin you still look like a goddess
me too
One thing that really grinds my gears about "influencers" is how they continuously post videos/pics about how you should love the body you're in, embrace your insecurities etc yet they are the ones that indulge in cosmetic surgery, edit their pics like crazy and are pretty much too insecure to post an unedited pic online...
steph xo Hypocrisy at it’s best, welcome to the earth! But a lot of sheeple WANT to be deceived and want to feel badly about themselves.
Can’t understand it either 🤷♀️
I KNOW SO FRUSTRATING
I see it this way- they feel trapped in the habit. It’s something they recognize as wrong, but are too far in. And in their hearts they know it’s wrong, so they warn others not to even get into it. It’s good that they speak up. Unless it’s just to look wholesome and caring when they actually don’t care lol.
But I get them, nobody wants to look horrible you wouldn't want your worst picture on your bedroom wall. That's just how people work, they want to be seen as beautiful, they want to feel loved.
Nemesis Deimos big mistake that society thinks we are only loved if we are beautiful! End that shit thinking. Don’t support only beautiful people, look deeper!!!
Real talk, being an influencer must be JUST as frustrating if not more. Imagine having to purposely look for flaws on your face and body and then face tune it to perfection. All those compliments in the comments must feel weird because you know that's *not* what you really look like.
Very true. I stopped wearing makeup because i had a couple people compliment me saying i had such nice skin, when really i had just become really good at makeup that looked pretty natural from a distance. I feel much more confident now that i’m comfortable showing my acne and hyperpigmentation and i can feel pretty without feeling like i have to hide my skin. I can’t imagine it being healthy for an influencer to be getting compliments on an altered version of themselves to the point where they feel they have to constantly keep that image up and feel that the ‘real’ them isn’t good enough.
I always thought like this....
same i always felt bad for influencers. it must feel so empty when u don't have the thing that people think you have like honestly it's so sad not only that people will always point their flaws and when they fix it with surgery or editing people will call them plastic or superficial it's like you can never make people happy 😔
Don't feel bad for influencers because they do that themselves. No one forced them to alter their photos or post on Instagram for likes and money. They're attention whores who knew that altering their photos to make themselves look beautiful would get them the money and attention they crave.
Bumble Grumble BLOOP 💯💯💯💯🗣🗣🗣🗣 FACTS
For years i thought my makeup skill is horrible because whenever I go out there’s always pores and cakey texture on my face. Thanks for letting me know this is normal!
Instagram trends are gonna change in the next five years ... where everyone is posting normal pictures of them without changing their appearance/editing it to impress a single being. It’s gonna happen soon
I hope so too...it's juz too toxic

I literally teared up when she showed her skin texture outside because she's just so fucking brave. Like it sounds like a misuse of 'brave, but honestly it IS. NO ONE HAS EVER SHOWED THAT as clearly as she has, and it's hard. I don't even consider myself a vain person but if I take videos of myself and I see my pores like that, I just delete them. That's just human skin. That's what it means to look like a human.
I started taking videos n pics of me when I first wake up, I look really pretty to me. I notice it's when I jump online that I start seeing myself as not pretty, so I said, OK don't jump online anymore, it deludes UR brain into thinking ur ugly, when the first thought I have in the morning is "wow I'm pretty"
I thought the same thing girl
@Mara Oliver ?
Yes! Even when youtubers show their skin "away from studio lighting" for foundation reviews and stuff, they still pick the most flattering lighting and smoothing filters that they can possibly find. It made me so happy to see her skin looking like !!normal!! skin!!! I have never seen that on the internet before. We need more of this
@@ghostsheet777 couldn't agree more

WHY DON'T WE ALL START! I AM IN! I AM 62 YEARS OLD AND AM REALLY TRYING TO LOVE MYSELF IN THE WORLD OF PERFECTION. WE ARE ALL GOD'S "MASTERPIECES". STARTING TO LIVE HAPPILY IN YOUR OWN SKIN IS A DAILY STRUGGLE WITH ME BUT WE ARE WORTH IT!
Ok, I have SO MUCH RESPECT for her showing an outside up close view of her skin. We need more people like her!
The struggle for me is that I look completely different in photos compared to how I look in the mirror.

I don’t think I’m photogenic either but hey that’s better than the other way around! 🤷🏾♀️ lol some people look good in person and in pictures some look good in person but not in picture and so on
The camera can't capture all the dimensions like the mirror can or your eyes. Dont worry, the version you see in the mirror is what other people see :)
My struggle is that I look better in person than on my photos.
@@tzuyu9283 is that true? :O
The thing is: without editing etc. girls don‘t look worse, they just don‘t all look like the Bratz Doll Ideal we have today. Our own beauty is timeless.
I think the worst part isn’t even how it makes us feel about ourselves but that men actually think women should look like that 🥺🥺
☺ men needs to take a good look at their own self too. Your reality is not others thoughts , but you. No?
Thats not the worst part, you don't need male validation to feel good about yourself
Obviously everyone has different experiences, but the men thought my life have always been incredibly supportive and affirming of “real” bodies and makeup-less skin. If I wear makeup nowadays, it’s solely for myself. My partner thinks I’m beautiful either way ❤️
That to say...not all men have the expectation of a “perfect” woman
What kind of men do you hang out with? No men I know like plastic surgery or a face full of make up. Most women are completely clueless about what men find attractive.
men sometimes forget that women are actually human too. we have all the same bodily functions (except the gender specific ones duh), we have hair, pores, impurities, fat and muscle just like them. so it really confuses me that they expect womens skin not to have pores when theirs does? not to have haur follicles all over our body when they do? sweat glands? I'm really interested to know what kind of rare species they think we are 😂 also once they start looking like ryan gosling or young leo, they can start judging. until then, i don't wanna hear it 😂
"tammy if ur watching this"

I was watching this video by myself at first, but then my 15 yr old daughter who is battling pretty bad acne started watching with me. She said "but her skin is perfect, why is she talking about this?" Then you explained the lights you're filming under and then you went outside and showed your skin in natural light and it was a revelation to her! Thank you so much for showing her that "perfect" skin doesn't exist. You are a wonderful person for making these kinds of videos to help people.
Watch Lorry Hills videos and also Cent ury of Self and So cial Dile ma, you and your daughter will like it!
I was also watching the video and thinking it didn't make sense, but when she showed her real skin I was like holy shit, she does have a normal face.
either way this is is ALSO an influencer and has the same sponsors as the others do. SHE is exactly like them - gorgeous, thin, has that "same" made up face, long hair, all of it....then proceeds to say - BUT I am just like you.... The You Tube community is short-lived. These channels will only last so long. So sad that this is what it's come to - fucking videos, vlogs, day-in-the-life, sponsors of the same shit.....such a vapid world for so many. Old age is gonna hit this generation like a ton of bricks.
THIS! THIS IS WHY THESE VIDEOS ARE ESSENTIAL 🙌
I saw a tik tok about how when you are home you feel relatively clean and polished, but then when you go out among people, you start feeling all grainy, textured and dirty. That's sooo trueee 😅

I miss flip phone pics. You just look like an outline of a person because it’s so pixelated.

I love that "skin texture" is a "bad" thing. Like... it is literally the texture of your skin. Can you imagine if you put foundation or paint on an orange? Nobody would gasp and be like, "OH MY GOSH THERE'S ORANGE PEEL TEXTURE!"

I'm 27 and I really miss the days when magazines were the only place you'd see overly edited photos, and everyone knew that they were. Then instagram came out and every since then it's not just celebrities who are editing themselves it's youtubers and the people that we know. It never bothered me until a year or so ago I realized all of a sudden I started scrutenizing EVERY little thing on my face and body when I was always perfectly happy before. I'm pretty sure it's from mindlessly scrolling on Instagram all day and becoming so desensitized to it all, and beginning to think that it's reality. Thankfully I'm starting to snap out of it but damn do I ever feel bad for the younger girls who can't.
I'm 28 and I feel exactly the same, in fact I've just left a comment almost exactly the same as yours! I used to not care how I looked without makeup but now I dislike so many little things about my face. One eyebrow hair out of place and I feel like I might as well give up! CZcams and Instagram are the main culprits in my opinion. I love watching beauty youtubers but I've managed to convince myself they're all makeup magicians who have flawless skin and symmetrical faces...
I have been down that road maybe once or twice. Just like yourself I am lucky to snap myself out of it! When I see myself staring to go down that hole i remove myself from all social media platforms minus CZcams because I just simply can't live without it as I haven't watched regular TV in about 2 years now. I really feel like social media needs to start a campaign to have ppl rock their natural looks as the younger kids ooof i can't imagine being their age in times like today. It must be really depressing and difficult for them to feel like they "fit in".
I am 29... I feel you!
Exactly! I teach 7th graders and some girls come to school with fake eyelashes on. Even so I remember comparing myself to these unrealistic photoshopped pictures of celebrities and models who came out and said that they didn't even look like their pictures. But you're right now there are apps that most people use or can get for free to edit out their imperfections and that makes us feel like as normal people we have to look perfect or appear to look perfect.
I'm 24 and I miss the time where influencers weren't trend setters to poreless skin and many other complex teenagers have now. I assume when they grow up they would snap out of that mentality but it is pretty toxic, glad no friend of mine (nor me) is insecure about looks.
Awww sweetheart, I'm 37yo and I really appreciate all the truth you're sharing with younger generations. I have Body Dysmorphic Disorder and grew up feeling pretty crappy about myself. I'm really grateful for your channel, just please don't forget, your "flaws" are what make you truly beautiful! 😃💖
I‘m so happy about quitting social media (except CZcams) right now. I freaking hate being fake or make myself prettier online than I am in real life!
When she took her camera outside to show us her skin in natural light... i clutched my pearls😱🤯
Yeah Instagram trendy makeup looks amazing on camera but not so much irl
LOL 😸
What were your thoughts? Lol did you think the natural lighting made her look bad?
Sarah Carr yes the makeup looks caked and it is not a good look
Lauren Small true but the indoor lighting made it look flawless I guess that’s why they call it stage makeup 💄
you’re literally the loveliest person to show your skin texture to make your followers feel good about themselves and that makes you super real and down to earth.
i wonder why some people need to see people's flaws to see good about themselves. That is just sad to me.
Liz Busta I don’t need to see her flaws to feel good about myself but i’m an adult and I understand that nobody is perfect, when you’re a teenage girl a lot of the time you take what you see on social media as reality and don’t know how much time and editing goes into a photo looking flawless, shes just trying to explain that nobody is that perfect to help those people and guys too, not think they are less because they have imperfections
I love you for this video!!!! Insecurity is the worst plague among women. It motivates "crazy" behavior. I have ALWAYS said "There is nothing more deadly than an insecure woman." It can ruin relationships with everyone in your life and even cause you to be violent towards not only yourself but to others as well. It makes you question who you are as a mother, a spouse, a friend and even makes you question your own character. You are very brave for laying yourself bare in this video. Amazing.

The fakeness is why I gave up Instagram and haven’t looked back in about two years
I've been without instagram for about 2 months and after about 2 days of being without it, I completely forgot it existed. It's so refreshing to not know what "influencers" are doing, wearing, selling, etc. I just do me and try to stay authentic to who I am and what I like!
I gave it up too, and haven't looked back!!
Never had Instagram and permanently removed Facebook best thing ever!
there´s more on Instagram that this influencer shit. Really there is a lot of interesting content about almost everything, microbiology, stars, oceans, spiders, trees, etc.
I have Instagram but I’m very selective of who and what I follow. And I never look at the search feed lol. That’s like quicksand. I’m from a different country so I keep in touch with classmates and friends through there but I always keep my mental state in check with that app ☺️
I grew up in a time before photo editing, selfies & social media.....I’d go back in a second if I could. I’ve seen the impact of what all this has done to marriages, teens & society as a whole.... very destructive indeed.
There has been Photoshop and photoshopping methods for a long time.
It’s so easy to manipulate what you look like online.
When I became chronically ill my self image changed completely. All these details I obsessed over like cellulite, the shape of my butt, my small tits, pimples, skin texture, the shape of my nose... all of that is completely irrelevant when I have more important things to worry about with my body. If I could change something about my body nowadays I would choose a healthy one, not change anything about how it looks because that is not important. In a way becoming ill was a process of finding new self-love for me. So long story short: focus on your health and what your body does for you. Appreciate it if you are healthy, and put your energy towards your wellbeing instead of your looks.
I can identify with that! It certainly changes your perspective when you're just proud of yourself for being able to stand upright for 10 minutes as opposed to being bed-bound. The lumps and bumps don't matter when you're fighting a daily struggle just to be able to move. 😊
@@cement.stilettos yes absolutely! You are a fighter and that's so amazing! Who cares about the bumps and lumps?
I got sick 4 years ago and it’s been a long hard battle and one of my illnesses made me not be able to eat properly and I lost so much weight (I’m 5’10 and thin anyway) and people kept saying to me “oh you look so skinny do you want to take some of my fat” and I was battling 4 chronic illnesses and I had no control over it. That then made me insecure because I was already fighting a body that was fighting me. Now like you I would do anything to have my healthy body back. I’m a chronically ill person who doesn’t look “sick” but people don’t realise it takes me days rest to prepare for an outing and they are very rare these days, I need all day to do my hair and make up because I need to stop and start due to pain and I spent the entire time pretending I’m not feeling like my body is on fire and I need to lay down. Getting sick really humbled me though, it makes you see things differently. I hope you have more good days then bad and some extra spoons 💖💖
I have severe asthma and was once a fit person to barely breathing most days. The privilege people don’t realise they have with abled bodies, then to capitalise of it is pretty distasteful. It’s never uplifting for others.... so white narcissistic really.
I totally agree. I am chronically ill now, and I'm just happy when I get a good day, or an okay day. I've dealt with relentless pain, for a long time, I don't even give a shit how I look anymore. I just wish I wasn't sick.

If everybody was honest and real.....nobody would feel ugly and not good enough!!!🖤the videos you make are amazing and soooo important!!!!!cant thank you enough!!! Having a beautiful soul is the most important attribute!!!! Ur gorgeous inside and out!!!🖤🖤🖤🖤stay blessed
I LOVE THE HONESTY. I FEEL BETTER ABOUT MYSELF EVERY TIME I WATCH THESE VIDEOS. GOD BLESS!
You're awesome. So down to earth and funny, but most importantly, you're helping reduce my anxiety around my appearances compared to what I'm being bombarded with on every social media platform.
Thank you!!!
I stopped wearing makeup two years ago, and it has boosted my confidence so much. I realised I was hiding my beauty behind a mask of insecurities. Also, not worrying what I look like in public is really freeing. I never got compliments when I was wearing makeup (only ig) but now people tell me I'm beautiful all the time. I think it has to do with being more confident and comfortable in my own skin + more approachable.
I have realised that the most beautiful feature is a real smile, whether the teeth a perfect or not. I understand that makeup is an artform for many but it looses its purpose when you have to wear a full face of makeup everytime you leave the house. The society needs to understand that true beauty comes from within.
The advertisements are constantly telling us, that we, as women, have to fix this and that and there seems to be a solution for everything. The truth is, we don't need to fix anything but our mindset. When you are content in your own skin and take care of yourself inside and out (whether you wear makeup or not) , you are a danger to the beauty industry because they make money off peoples insecurities.
I dont know if my comment makes sense to you. I'm just really happy with myself and I wish I could share it with everyone. Everyone deserves to feel beautiful, confident and able. I wish you will have a great day❤️
This is so beautiful and true, thank you for this!!
This is beautiful 🥺🥺🥺
Very well said, hun! 💜💯👏🙌
This is so refreshing - like a sip of cold lemonade! I’ve been slowly quitting make up... still using it maybe once a month. Your writing made me remember why. Thank you!
Same. And I deleted fb and moved Instagram off my immediate apps on my phone. It's toxic. I feel so much better about life. It was consuming. I was drowning in self deprecation.
Ok I miss the days of normal photos ppl couldn’t edit the shit out of everything
There was a time when people used to say "pictures don't lie", and pictures were even used in court!
@chellybabyme now it’s a lie till you see them in person lmao
@@emiliabaran493 Haha so true
Lady Nightsong better believe it lol
Imagine if eventually it comes full circle and people rarely take pics or start to use the disposables xxx
Thank you for being so transparent about it all...so many of us fall in the trap of feeling like we are so imperfect, not to say ugly, when we compare ourselves to social media influencers or celebrities. Thank you for your honesty!!! And you are so beautiful, with filters, lighting ecc. and without :)
Omg thank you girl for keeping it real. A lot of influencers and people aren’t honest enough with us! 💯
So many more beauty influencers should show their imperfections like this. THIS IS WHAT HUMANS LOOK LIKE!! Modern beauty standards have really clouded women and pressured us to constantly criticize ourselves and our self image. You have this body for the rest of your life, don’t waste all that time hating it!!!
I think comparing yourself to others is a normal part of figuring out your identity in middle school and high school but now that we've gotten to the stage that regular people are editing and adjusting their face and bodies, it's a more toxic environment. At least looking in magazine or on websites 10 years ago, the people were usually famous so there were steps of separation.
I wish i could see ariana grande in her true skin. When she goes make up free she always adds a filter to the photo and video. Her stans literally believe she is perfect. I want the truth lol
I think a photo of anyone sitting at the hairdressers is enough to bring down the ego. Something about those black capes and mirrors that makes you look like a monster!
Omg I totally agree lol!
Lmao why is this sooo accurate 😂
Omg, specially when the hair is wet and divided in the middle. I feel so ugly 😂
Yes! So so true!
And the lights😖but on another note you are so pretty!
"Probably have a mustache here as well" I love this woman! She's so real!!
This was so Authentic and It Made me feel Even Better about myself. I hope all Of You Feel more confident and More Secure in your own Skin. Don't feel the need to compare yourself to Anyone, Not just influencers. We all have thing's we may not LIKE about ourselves but the Key is to Constantly LOVE Ourselves.
When I tell you I almost cried when you went into the natural light! I have struggled with those skin textured little bumps for years and couldn’t understand why no one else had it and you have made me feel NORMAL! Thank you thank you thank you 🙏 You are such a beautiful person inside and out 💜
I honestly don’t ever really look at flawless photos and think they’re real. I’m in my 40’s though. You can tell they’re edited and airbrushed. I do worry about the younger girls though. I really think all of this is ruining people’s self esteem. What a sad world we live in right now... And to think it’s only going to get worse.
Same as me I’m about to be 42 and I’m happy I didn't grow up with instagram and influencers. It does make me worry about young girls today too.
I feel like it's obvious on Instagram when someone is using a filter and has edited their pic, but the one that really affects me is CZcams... I watch a lot of beauty influencers and because of the flattering lighting it's near impossible to see their pores or blemishes or fine lines so they all look flawless! I'm 28 btw
SpaceDementia_ yep YT as well. Many “influencers” have beauty filters attached right to their cameras. There’s so many options out there to alter looks that people are unaware of.
@@SpaceDementia_ it's definitely not always obvious on instagram. Almost no influencer uploads a raw photo onto instagram, some just tweak their photos more blatantly than others. But even when it doesn't "look like they edited", you can can pretty much 100% guarantee it has been in some way if it's on insta.
@@FreeDrugz yeah you are right, when I said it was obvious I was thinking about the instagrams of people I know! With influencers it's definitely NOT obvious, but the only influencers I follow on there are body positive or people with disabilities because I'm not interested in following the super edited ones like the Kardashians or Tana Mongeau!
Thank you for being real ❤️
I was having a rough day hating on myself, but remembered your videos so I came for a reality check, thank you, you're an angel ❤️❤️❤️
this video made me so...normal. Like usualy when I watch youtube videos I end up making a glow-up plan to achieve unachievable things. Thank you so much!
I stopped comparing myself to others when I got married and realized my hubby loves me and no one else. So if he sees me as gorgeous then why can’t I?
Love this 🥰
Shut up! This made me cry!
This is so heart warming
Wow... If only we could all experience such a feeling...
You're blessed with a good husband.
Thank you for the video, Stephanie...
It made me see "influences" and the PHOTOS that INFLUENCE in a whole new light...
Yessssss !!! Me too! My husband MADE me feel pretty and confident even without make-up. His love made my self esteem go up and insecurities go dooooown down down. 😊
I’m in my son’s account watching this but I wanted to say when you showed us your up close skin outside I actually cried becuase I finally felt ‘normal’ I’m 34. So I can only imagine how it will help younger women. Thank you x
Same! I'd be spending hours making my make up and being sad it wasn't smooth or crisp and when I saw her face in natural light I got so happy!! Like, she has the same little bumps I do! There's nothing wrong with my pores!
You are young too! But yeah I know what you mean
Same girl same!!! I’m 35 and I have fully accepted the fact that we live in a filtered world and it used to be normal and beautiful to age. We just have to normalize raw and real again!
Watch Lorry Hills videos and also Cent ury of Self and So cial Dile ma, you seem like somebody who would need that red pill
I stopped comparing myself to others a long time ago and just accepted the fact that we are all unique and beautiful in our own way. I've been much happier and more comfortable in my own skin. Love who you are and respect that you're different. ❤️
:D 👍
also, I really appreciate that you're willing to show your flaws in order to explain and give us the best. ily
*“My pores are like the size of the moon u can go for a trip there and get lost”*
I-
I honestly love u so much😂💯🥺💓💓💗💗🥰🥰
I've been watching a lot of "why u won't look like an influencer" videos but U'RE the only one who is not trying to humiliate to another girl, and it's sooo refreshing because I cannot feel better with those videos if people is trying to hurt women for their pictures just so they can make another women "happy" or comfortable with themselves.
lots of love!
It makes me sad this influencer culture. I'm on youtube since 2008, vlogging about fiction that I write and art that I make, I was never able to make my channel grow because I dont manipulate people into buying stuff...
When you started talking about the shampoo I became obssessed with the idea, being so custom and cruelty free, went to the website thinking "please ship to Brazil please ship to Brazil" and the SHIP TO BRAZIL I'm so excited!
"My paws are the size of the moon , you could like go for a trip there and get lost." just fell of the chair, but it made my day, love u.
You put yourself out there to show everyone that no one is absolutely perfect and that is why I love you and your channel! ❤️
This. Sums it up perfectly.
Exactly!!
One thing that’s great about getting older, is that you just don’t care so much anymore. I’m 44, and I can 100% truly say that I love every feature I have, and wouldn’t trade for anyone else’s features. I’ve grown to truly value and love every physical attribute I was born with. I just wish I could give that confidence to every single person in existence, the world would be a much happier place.
You really pretty tho😭
Botha Both Both That is really sweet, was having a bad day and you just brightened it with your kindness. You are beautiful too, you just have to see it for yourself. ❤️❤️❤️
seriously, you look amazing!!!
Agreed !
KirstenGlae Parker Luckily I already had that attitude to myself at age 15. Though I had some pimples back then, a pretty asymmetrical face, even different eye sizes and slighthly crooked teeth. It still looked really cute. All this would have looked botched and unnatural if I ever had the desire to change smth. Real man like natural beauty. Of course I do use a little bit of make up to enhance some features, but very subtle and I never hated smth about my “natural” features. I find all the young influencers that have obvious things done like lip and cheek and chin fillers bu** ugly. This overdone contouring and highlighting and skin tanning. These broad, black painted on eyebrow “logs”. Truly horrifying. Totally void of any personality and glow and happiness. I just don’t get it.
We should try and push a challenge where everyone posts a pic that’s completely unedited, unaltered, and no studio lighting...kids like challenges these days
this was what i needed. i have been going through a self-love journey for a while and seeing people like u being so open about things that makes us humans is so encouraging. u are stunning
watch lab muffin beauty and Lorry Hills channel also Cent ury of Self and So cial Dile ma, you seem like somebody who would like it
“I’m an ‘influencer’, 🤮” - hilarious! 😂😂😂
Katrina Maven - Hazelton 😫🤮
Stephanie Lange you’re hilarious! I love you! You’re so real! More people need to be like you! ❤️
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love your videos cause you are so real love how you speak the truth
The cutest part😂
I've never seen an influencer talk about their asymmetry, I also take pictures of looks I do and it's so frustrating when your face isn't the same on both sides so you have to do certain poses/ angles to disguise it :/ I'm glad you talked about it!
THIS IS SO FABULOUS! You are a doll...and definitely a SPRING SEASON ..those colors and blouse look beautiful on you!
Thank you so much for showing your skin texture outside, I literally cried, it was so nice to not feel like I'm going crazy anmore.
The worst thing for me is not influencers, it's flattering photos I've taken of myself and edited, then I look back and go...wow I look awful now, forgetting that the days I took those "better" photos were days that I thought I was looking terrible. Now I never take selfies and that somewhat fixes the problem of comparing myself to myself which is so pointlessly self destructive I can't even
This is literally so relatable. I’ve deleted all selfies from my phone because I’m sick of constantly scrutinising myself and bringing myself down. It’s so bad for my mental health.
Same here.. This is actually so sad🤦🏽♀️
Totally get you, I can never take a good selfie. But I did take a few selfies in my bathroom yesterday, then one outdoors in the shade (I NEVER take outdoor photos) and the outdoor one actually looked amazing! Made me realise how powerful lighting is - indoors you're always gonna get a shadow and it accentuates parts of your face that you might not want to accentuate. Influencers have got the lighting down!
I used to filter all the time, but now, not a single photo I take or post now has filtering or editing--it's made a huge difference to my self esteem, because I genuinely like my photos, the photos I post are me as I am now. Xxxx
this is why i dont have instagram, just a whole lot of negativity/toxicity that i dont want in my life and on my self esteem
Girl sameee
same
If CZcams is considered as social then it's the only thing I have.
15:01 " don't ever compare yourself to influencers coz influencers don't look like influencers in real life" I felt that sis.. 🇿🇦
You are so sweet and kind to post such a genuine video!! It’s something we all know by now, but really cool to see how people do it.
Not gonna lie, when I first clicked on this video I wasn't taking you very seriously; you looked stunning, how could you even say anything about this? But as I kept watching the video you showed that close up of your face outside and your skin looked like mine. I was so genuinely surprised.
Thanks for making this video, it was so much more helpful than I thought. 💖
Same, I was thinking wow she is so pretty what does she know about this, I'm ashamed of that but I take her seriously now and I love her channel
@@michaelsperson4856 yep, that's what everyone thinks when they see a pretty person "They're so gorgeous, they can't be insecure!" often the most pretty people are the most insecure.
Yes this is so true! I deleted Instagram for this exact reason its not healthy to be constantly comparing yourself to people who dont even look like that either!
Same girl! Never looked back!
Actually I would like to give an advice if you accept
You don't need to delete ig, just don't follow celebrities and search for something more productive: arts, sport, learning a new language, business stuff, etc.even animals: ))
I've never felt bad on ig about myself because I never followed those people from the beginning
@@imme9196 i think the temptation is too much for me to have it i would go looking for those people even if i didnt follow them 😅 you must have good self control
Nah I’m way happier without it.
Abbie C same ♥️
You’re such a beautiful soul. And it’s so rare anymore. Thank you for what you’re doing and being willing to show your own flaws to help others. ❤
Stephanie: No influencer would want to look bad on instagram.
Me: Keith Habersbe-
Low-key he just doesn't care about his Instagram in the way most influencers would care. He just likes people to get a good laugh from him😊
The more influencers try to achieve "perfection" the higher that bar is going to get. I wish they would just put the bar down.
Thou that would be profitable now would it? Sad world
When I was in middle school I would look up CZcams videos on how to cover up acne with make up and my face never looked as flawless as the CZcams gurus. I thought I just had the worst acne ever. I hated myself and thought I would never achieve the flawless makeup that beauty gurus had. Now I know better and I’m glad to see this video that actually shows the truth about lighting and angles!
You are being so honest , and you show it all omg ! Very refreshing
Stephanie you are a A+ person for being this open and honest. You are helping so many girls (and guys) with insecurity issues. THANK YOU.
its incredible how much you notice about yourself, but when you turned to your ‘bad side’ i thought you looked super beautiful so i think it’s very determined by the self
i literally did not notice any of the things she pointed out. even after she pointed them out i couldnt see them
Steph, you are SUCH an incredible role model to the young women who follow you. As a fellow influencer who also tries to break down beauty ideals I LOVE that you are making videos like this! xxx
I was having a bad self esteem day today and I found your video randomly and I’m so thankful. Thank you for easing my mind and making me feel so much better about myself and making millions of girls feel at ease with themselves. Definitely subscribing.
I really appreciate your style of talking about your flaws in a way that doesn’t sound like you’re insulting yourself, but it’s realistic and makes it ok for everyone to have flaws! It’s such a skill that you have.
Why. Like why make this so normal? Why make it normal to take a billion pictures to get 1? Why make it normal to have photo editing apps? Why can’t we all just start posting pictures of us that actually look like us
Because it isn't profitable... Watch Cent ury of Self and then So cial Dile ma, you seem like somebody who would like it
i think its pretty unhealthy to go to such lengths to look good in photos.
Does anyone look at edited photos and just get annoyed instead? Rather then envious?
It frustrates me when it's OVER the top perfect.
And what about when people see you in real life? Your going to stun them!!......... But not in a good way
Lol yes I do sort of see it as false advertising. My mind just always goes to the hypothetical scenario where some dude has taken one of these insta girls home, had a passionate night, and then wakes up not recognising the woman they got into bed with once they see them without makeup, filters, face/body tune and from something but the ‘good’ angles 😬
I straight up get irritated. Like listen we all know it's fake and you're going to make others and even yourself feel worse
Yes! I have no idea why but I could never find the words about how I feel when I see edited pictures.
@@oceana3070 false advertising? thats a human, not a product
eff whhhhooosh
Thanks for sharing!! By the way, when went outside to show the natural lighting, your home looks really unique and super cool.
You're really out here doing the most for all of our mental health and i appreciate it so much! Its important to know social media is edited and that being human is beautiful, thank you for all your hard work :)
I love how humble, down to earth, REAL & genuinely good hearted you are -- we need more influencers who are actually good ppl & promote positivety & kindness!!!
Who else thinks that her “bad” side of her face looks actually better
She looks like Angelina Jolie on her “bad side” 😍
@@Dazyet I actually came here to say the same thing
You’re so brave for using yourself as an example! Highly respect that!! Thank you 🙌🙌
I love these videos. Its super humbling. I used to get bullied a lot, and when I was about 13 I decided to break myself down and find my flaws, so that if anyone ever tried to make fun of me for something, it was never something I didn't already know. If I knew it, they couldn't make me feel bad about it. I accepted everything! And I love that you have the same thing. Accept yourself. you're beautiful!
