I’ve been a social media ‘influencer’ for about 5 years now, so you think I should know better than to compare myself to people I see online considering I know what goes on behind the scenes - but I still do it! So I can only imagine how it must feel for everyone else seeing these perfect lives, perfect bodies and perfect faces online. It’s almost impossible to not compare yourself negatively! So i’m making this video to draw back the curtains on what goes into getting that perfect ‘instagram influencer’ picture.
Here’s the thing; for every beautiful instagram picture you see, these 4 elements have come into play:
    LIGHTING
    ANGLES
    CAMERA CONTROL
    EDITING
Not to mention how many photo attempts it takes just to get the one good picture that goes up online! So please NEVER compare yourself negatively to influencers, because even INFLUENCERS don’t look like influencers in real life!
In this video i’ve mentioned the beautiful goddess that is Tammy Hembrow, here’s her social medias:
    IG: @tammyhembrow
YT: • FOLLOW ME AROUND | vlog
I’m in no way hating on Tammy, I think she’s gorgeous! And I love that she’s confident enough to film herself in harsh natural lighting! Go girl!

I was at a family reunion before quarantine started, and I had to watch my cousins 13-15 year old boys and their friends,(my cousin is like 20 years older than me). They were talking about girls instagrams and saying that this girl, clearly FaceTuned, was “super hot” and of course I ignored it and moved on because that’s their business, but then they saw a pic of another girl from their school who looked nice, but they said she was ugly and I went off on all of them. Gen z’s expectations are waayyy too high. Do all kids think that someday they will marry women that look like Bella Hadid or something

L Wilde but u can’t even compare her to anyone today! I mean then there weren’t all this make up stuff today that I feel the tricks are like damn magic because I damn didn’t recognize my brothers gf day after at the breakfast table.
Marilyn was a true beauty! That’s why she is an icon.. and will be forever.. who will ever get near that again? With all the surgeries fillers and ect. Not that I’m against that everyone should do what they want with their body damn it have woman fought to have that right I’m just over them lying about doing even fillers ... like we are suppose to believe Kylie Jenner just grew up with a giant ass and boobs .. also what people are missing is young skin vs older. It’s so easy to oook so pretty when u are so young u barely need any make up so ofc make up makes it look flawless.. unless ofc u have some skin problems .

Sassy C She was a true beauty but she also had cosmetic surgery as well as a professional hair and make up artist. It would sometimes take them six hours to transform her from Norma Jean to Marilyn Monroe. When she didn’t have her make up on she could go unrecognized. There are many good books out there that have documented her metamorphosis.

I was a 90s teen and magazines were bad enough but now everyone seems to alter their looks. The problem is they then begin to believe they look like the altered pictures. I have avoided learning how to edit my photos as I know with my mental health it would be a bad idea. In the UK wr have reality stars who refuse to believe they look like unaltered paparazzi photos because they change their face their weight everything on their own photos. Suddenly you see a picture they didn't edit and they're 20lb heavier and look normal. Nothing wrong with that but for young girls they look up to these people and feel so depressed they don't look like that. You can even alter videos of yourself now I saw a video of James Charles where he had altered his face down to even his eyes.

I feel much more confident now that i’m comfortable showing my acne and hyperpigmentation and i can feel pretty without feeling like i have to hide my skin. I can’t imagine it being healthy for an influencer to be getting compliments on an altered version of themselves to the point where they feel they have to constantly keep that image up and feel that the ‘real’ them isn’t good enough.

NO ONE HAS EVER SHOWED THAT as clearly as she has, and it's hard. I don't even consider myself a vain person but if I take videos of myself and I see my pores like that, I just delete them. It never bothered me until a year or so ago I realized all of a sudden I started scrutenizing EVERY little thing on my face and body when I was always perfectly happy before. I'm pretty sure it's from mindlessly scrolling on Instagram all day and becoming so desensitized to it all, and beginning to think that it's reality. Thankfully I'm starting to snap out of it but damn do I ever feel bad for the younger girls who can't.

CZcams and Instagram are the main culprits in my opinion. If I could change something about my body nowadays I would choose a healthy one, not change anything about how it looks because that is not important. In a way becoming ill was a process of finding new self-love for me. So long story short: focus on your health and what your body does for you. I stopped wearing makeup two years ago, and it has boosted my confidence so much. I realised I was hiding my beauty behind a mask of insecurities. Also, not worrying what I look like in public is really freeing. I never got compliments when I was wearing makeup (only ig) but now people tell me I'm beautiful all the time. I think it has to do with being more confident and comfortable in my own skin + more approachable.
I have realised that the most beautiful feature is a real smile, whether the teeth a perfect or not. I understand that makeup is an artform for many but it looses its purpose when you have to wear a full face of makeup everytime you leave the house. The society needs to understand that true beauty comes from within.
The advertisements are constantly telling us, that we, as women, have to fix this and that and there seems to be a solution for everything. The truth is, we don't need to fix anything but our mindset. When you are content in your own skin and take care of yourself inside and out (whether you wear makeup or not) , you are a danger to the beauty industry because they make money off peoples insecurities.
I dont know if my comment makes sense to you. I'm just really happy with myself and I wish I could share it with everyone. Everyone deserves to feel beautiful, confident and able. I wish you will have a great day❤️

I think comparing yourself to others is a normal part of figuring out your identity in middle school and high school but now that we've gotten to the stage that regular people are editing and adjusting their face and bodies, it's a more toxic environment. At least looking in magazine or on websites 10 years ago, the people were usually famous so there were steps of separation.

Though I had some pimples back then, a pretty asymmetrical face, even different eye sizes and slighthly crooked teeth. It still looked really cute. All this would have looked botched and unnatural if I ever had the desire to change smth. Real man like natural beauty. Of course I do use a little bit of make up to enhance some features, but very subtle and I never hated smth about my “natural” features. I find all the young influencers that have obvious things done like lip and cheek and chin fillers bu** ugly. This overdone contouring and highlighting and skin tanning. These broad, black painted on eyebrow “logs”. Truly horrifying. Totally void of any personality and glow and happiness. I just don’t get it.
