- We're Mitza Creek Farm.....just a family of 5, and since 2016, we've been trying to rebuild this old dairy farm into a productive homestead & farm. We grow pumpkins, Christmas trees, veggies, beef, lamb & poultry. We're in zone 3B in Northern Wisconsin, so we experience hot, humid summers, and frigid, extreme winters. Please subscribe to our channel and watch this journey tae place. A question I see multiple times a day in my favorite gardening groups, in my inbox and in person is.....HOW DO I TELL IF MY BRAD'S ATOMIC GRAPE TOMATO IS RIPE? (and usually this is said after they've had an unripe one). Well, here is how I tell if mine are ripe. Mitza Creek Farm is a small, diversified farm/homestead located in Northern Wisconsin (zone 3B). Even though I have no agriculture experience prior to purchasing our property in 2016, I am working hard to heal our land regeneratively, using our grass-fed cows, sheep and pastured poultry. I grow produce, pumpkins & squash, mums/fall flowers and Christmas trees, plus often DIY projects around our farm. Follow along with me as I work in my high tunnel, with our animals, and dig in the dirt.
Thank you for this video! It's my first year growing this variety and I couldn't tell when they were ripe! I mistakenly thought they were ripe once they turned purple. I appreciate your information!
Thank you! This is our first growing anything at all and as it turns out we planted FAR MORE than we were ready to handle and have so much and have learned very much about gardening. These are going to be awesome we can tell!
Thank you for your kind words. I hope you are enjoying your bounty!
Thanks for this, my first year growing this variety.
Thank you for the info. I fortunately got a visitor somehow from a previous planting years ago 😂 My other ones were eaten by critters. So far Irish Spring soap bars have seemed to keep them away so I’m hoping I will be able to enjoy them this time.😊
I love your honesty and teaching. Thank you.
Thank you for the kind words!
Thank you! I have one of these this year as a gift from a friend and this was so helpful.
Thank you for your kind words!
So glad you posted this. I’ve got cosmic eclipse which look similar and I wasn’t exactly sure when to harvest. Thanks for sharing!
joyful half acre oooh! Where’d you get the seeds from? Keep us posted on how you like them!
This was so helpful! I have been having a hard time telling with these. These are such a tasty tomato.
They are our favorite cherry!
Just picked up some of these seeds from local dollar store. I appreciate this knowledge. Will be tuning in for more good info thanx.

Good info! TY
My first year with Brad's Atomic grape and I agree with you Lady good job.
Extra delicious and everyone here favorite, Only thing wrong is a lot of feeling does take time , But that said I plan to increase my plants from 3 that I nearly lost from knats that damage nearly all my plants and killed more than half of my seedlings ( this is my first year with grow lights and starting seedlings so I expect to have better success with all my seedlings and plan for 6 plants that produce several times more Brad's Atomic grape tomatoes plenty for use all.
Good video and you nailed the comicated judging of a extra special tomato it is delicious and has a place in my garden probably forever.

Thanks so much
Thank you 🙏
Thank YOU ... MUCH NEEDED INFO. (me?? ... I pick em when they are red, or close; finishing them off inside.) This helps to reduce lost Tom's to animals. I get em quickly LOL
Glad to help! And Yes, Keep the critters from the buffet ;)
I was disappointed with my Atomic Grape Tomatoes last year. Perhaps it was because I grew them outside of a greenhouse?
All my other tomatoes were fine and were planted out at the same time.
The skins were tough and they were watery and tasteless. And yes, they were ripe, as they had 'give' when squeezed gently and had turned yellow/orange/red in colour.
We’ve grown them outside of our high tunnel and loved them then too. it could be when you picked it, as tomatoes will be sweetest and most flavorful when you pick before watering (vs after) and in the afternoon , but it could just be taste preference, too.
Thanks, mystery solved!
Thank you for explaining when they are ripe!
Can you possibly cut into one and show what the inside looks like to when ripe?
Our growing season hasn't started yet for this year, but I'll do my best to remember to do that in July/August of this year- I really try not to pick the unripe ones normally. Here's a video of us cutting into and trying some from a few years ago (at the 4 min mark) czcams.com/video/QEzG3Ju-Z90/video.html
@@MitzaCreek thank you so much!
Mine should be ripening up soon and so looking forward to tasting them!
Does the color change also apply to regular Atomic Grape Tomatoes, meaning Not Brads? I’m not sure what type I have.
I believe there’s only one type of Atomic Grape, but yes, it should apply to most similar colored tomatoes (I’m sure there are a few that like to break the rules!)
Do you strip the leaves off around the tomatoes?
I’m not quite sure what you mean- we prune the lower branches on the tomato vine so we have better airflow and more fruit. (I *think* that’s what you’re asking?) Usually, there aren’t leaves around/on the same branch as the fruit clusters.
What color are they on the inside?
I’ve looked on the last ones that I ate. Mostly Green & on some that had a lot of red/orange, they were somewhat red inside.
