Wow this really helped me. I thought my Ally wasn’t reading the disk. The only thing that was different was it reads it as (E:) New Volume instead of SD card. Thank you sir!

I use an external extension cable . Its 5cm long and can be connected into the sd card slot . Then i taped it on the back as far off from the fans as possible . Works perfectly

I had to go through this process the first time but I just got another one in from Amazon and it just worked, idk if they update the sd card reader but it was a simple process for this time! Didn't format it

Thank you! Was working fine till last night when it suddenly recognised it as a new card and wanted to format it but couldn't, and couldn't access the files on it. Worked fine on my laptop. So on my laptop I followed your instructions and now it works back in the Ally again. Hopefully they'll bring a fix soon. They're aware of the SD card issue according to Discord.
Yeah. Glad you have it fixed. The sd card problem need to be confirmed by Asus. So maybe for now just stop using sd card to avoid damage it.

Nope. Doesn't even read it in disk manager. Works picture perfect on pc but on my Ally it's just a loss of 60 bucks. Any fix?

My spare sd cards werent showing up on my windows 11 pc and ROG all so I thought it was a defect sd card reader.
What dumb is that they showed up on my surface laptop with windows 10 and I thought formatting them there would work but they still wouldn’t show up on my window 11 devices.
What is the Largest size of micro sd can you use in the ROG ally?

This is for those who probably only have the sd card problem but the real issue in ROG ally is the card reader.
I've already revived my SD Card and even bought another one, and the volume appears on "my computer" but it still won't read it as it should
yes you are correct. if your ally has a broken sd card slot software won't fix it. All you can do is sending it back to Asus and get repaired in that case.
@@ED4T do you know if the local repair service can fix it or do they need to send it back to ASUS abroad?
I learned that the card reader is attached to the motherboard. So Im guessing it cant be fixed by the local service center.
@@JESSROCKEDChannel I think it's better sending back to Asus. I just don't trust local repair shops.
@@ED4T Then what? They still haven't fixed the heat problem so it will only happen again. Mine is a relatively new unit so it is an ongoing problem. I'm going to wait until they have a real fix.

Thank you for this video. I have a rare issie where my 1tb san disk extreme sd card has files that windows says i cannot delete because i don't have permission. How could i fix this? Ice tried formatting, doing a wipe with easeus partition magic, nothing works!
Have you try disk manager partition? If you still have this issue. Maybe try repair the disk tool from windows. Btw what brand sd card is it ?

I have an issue with my Samsung Evo Plus 512GB, was working properly but now ? I can't run anything from it. As soon i put the sd inside the ally it still recognized it perfectly fine, and asks to repair it, when i click auto repair, it just freezes in the green glowing bar...any help or fix ?

@ED4T not yet im trying to avoid deleting everything I have there, and not really the same issue, it detects the Micro sd every time, I can ignore the repair and open it straight away but nothing opens, and when I click repair the barr just doesn't progress

I don’t think you can boot from SD card on Ally at this moment. ASUS did not enable this feature from BIOS. Maybe future update will do. But if your batocera is in a usb drive you can boot with ally but not SD card right now.

I don’t think it matters as much when your card already isn’t recognized by the device tho
Can’t you copy the data on the sd card to another computer, then do this, and finally transfer the data back to the sd card so it works in the Ally?
Just use an extension cable . Those cost 15 bucks . Works perfectly . I put it with a little bit of removable tape on the back . No issues
Something happened to me weird
The micro sd was working with me just fine and after 3 days now it’s not working and I can’t find it.
Have you try my method to fix it? There is rumours going on right now and claiming the some Ally device will slowly destroy SD card. But this has not been confirmed.
@@ED4T I did but I couldn’t find it there too only If I put the micro sd on a usb hub it works well.

you either have a broken sd card or your ally sd card slot is broken .
My ally just fried my 500gb sd card, tried it in my switch and doesnt read it in there either, any ideas what i can do?

Dont think it helps how hot the machine gets where the sd card slot is.maybe Frys it?
@ED4T yeah had to hard reset machine after getting stuck on restarting screen, when turned back on the sd card won't even be found when put it in
Was normally playing well until my screen froze up that i had to restart the device. Now the SD card isn’t found when inserted, and there’s no chime after placing it. I’m definitely going to try to get a refund after owning it for about a week

@@Omniking. How were you able to return the device? Did they give you a full refund? I’m over the 15 days of being able to return, so i’m not sure how to follow with this… unless i sell it online for a bit cheaper

I returned mine for a new one yesterday and may have it in a few weeks. If I can’t get it Best Buy will refund you I was told.
Mine did not make the noise when inserted or removed. Best Buy says 1tb sd card is not burned up. Hopefully they fix this asap. I’m worried about putting my card back in.

your rog ally may have SD card reader issues. thats a general problem with some Ally.

@@firstclaims30 My SD card reader is fried won't read my SD card...unfortunately my Asus Rog reader got fried before the update where they gave fans more cooling

My ROG Ally fried two 1TB Lexar Play, and one 512GB Samsung Pro Plus cards, the ASUS engineers who designed the SD Card slot right under the heatsinks are idiots.
I totally agree with you. That’s the worst engineering design I ever saw on a handheld gaming devices. I actually talked about this issue in my rog ally review video. The sd slot location is a design failure.
Man exact same thing here, first a 1tb Lexar... now it won't recognize a 512 Samsung. What are you planning to do?
@@ED4T I’m going to guess it was a cost saving measure not putting the SD card slot at the bottom of the device, if you look at the current design the bottom part is all battery, if they were to put the SD card slot at the bottom they would need a bigger PCB board.
Don’t use SD CARD any more. Swap a 2tb ssd.
