- Curtin University’s Dean of Global Futures Joe Siracusa says Duke University inviting Jerry Seinfeld to speak at a graduation ceremony was “bad optics”.
Dozens of students at Duke University in North Carolina have walked out of a commencement ceremony in protest of the guest speaker - comedian Jerry Seinfeld.
The comedian has been a vocal supporter of Israel since the October 7 attacks.
“It was a bad idea, they should have just withdrawn,” Mr Siracusa said.

So basically this Dean of Global Future (is that like gender studies, all made up?)doesn't like Seinfeld or his politics so he doesn't think Duke should have picked him. How about he was picked for the usual reason. Seinfeld is a very successful man respected in his field who might possibly have some good advice to impart to young people just starting out in the world. That is the kind of person who who was chosen in the past to speak.

About 30 humorless scolds walked out. Meanwhile Duke University posted the speech to its CZcams website and more than 600,000 so far have watched Seinfeld's entire speech and loved it. I just sent the link to my college-age grandchildren. I think Duke came away looking pretty good!
