    The Cowboy Tomi boot sticker looks awesome! I really appreciate your videos, especially the way you edit them to show exactly the parts that people need to see. Some bike CZcamsrs skip what they think is boring so they miss showing essential tasks and some people make hour long videos explaining literally everything. You get it just right, I think. You've inspired me to try my own frame painting projects and restomods. Thanks a lot, Cowboy!

    A spray bottle with alcohol will make it easier to saturate the inside of the grip before mounting it.
    A little more time sanding/finishing would have helped. Even spraypaint needs a lot of time to cure. It's hard to have that kind of patience though in between coats and the final clearcoat.
    Microshift drivetrains are such a blessing for converting these old bikes.

    • @CowboyTomi
      @CowboyTomi  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for the tip! Yes, waiting for the paint to cure is the worst while all the parts are waiting to be installed! I have to work on being more patient during these moments. Microshift is truly a blessing.

    My way: Rusty bolts and other hardware get soaked all night in liquid rust remover like Evap-o-Rust. Then washed in soapy water and when dry are dropped in a Harbor Freight vibratory cleaner with walnut shells and polishing compound. They come out looking brand new, and I had little to no hand work to get them looking great again. The vibratory cleaner will also make aluminum parts look super, especially if they are left in all night. I also use a cloth wheel on an electric motor with white compound for the bigger aluminum pieces like the crank arms. Mirror finish is possible with just 30 minutes work. Also, rather than deal with stencils, I have custom decals made very reasonably by a local decal shop. Right now a Jamis Coda Comp is getting the spa treatment.
    Thanks for the video, and is that Rustoleum Hunter Green paint?

    Great choice with the microShift. I have the AdvenrX 1x10 on my Gary Fisher Joshua, Trek 4500 and Specialized Crosstrail gravel conversion. They work great. To stop the bottom bracket socket jumping out of the threads when the bb is stuck I put a bolt through the socket and into the bb thread on the square taper - it holds them tight enough that the socket won’t pop out but you can still turn the bb. That was a lot of rust in there!

    Hi Tomi, this has quickly become my favourite channel on YT!! Love the words of wisdom through the videos too :)
    Just a quick question, did you use the original rear wheel? I’m starting a project too but not sure that I’ll be able to fit a 9 speed cassette on the original hub. Heard about some people needing to redish the wheel and enlarge the dropouts, was this the case for this build?
    Thanks for the videos, keep on making the best vids on CZcams! Peace

    • @CowboyTomi
      @CowboyTomi  Před rokem +1

      Thank you so much! Great question, I did replace the wheel with a new wheel that came with a 9 Speed Hub. The spacing was still correct on the spacing between the dropouts (135mm), so I didn't need to do any rigging.

      @CowboyTomi  Před 2 lety +1
