More builds like this please! Incremental power gains are fun to watch, and shows how each part affects output. 👍
Agreed
100%
I know I love it too if I had a engine dyno I would sit there all day trying different things just to see the gains or losses

Love watching Pat and Mike they got to have the best jobs in the world, I wish PowerNation would do a yearly contest and let a winner come in to the shop and Rebuild your motor
That's a great idea.
LS: The GOAT.
I agree more of these videos. And more in depth view of how a engine is put together. From every bolt to every gasket
Love watching these guys. Can’t wait to build my engine
That guy needs more stuff in his shirt pocket.
😂
Pat needs to be given a pocket protector and the black boot. Old woman posing as a man. He must shine the tools up real nice.

G'day guys ,,
Great episode ,, just keep on bringing it .
More power to ya ...!!!
Much Respect

Great to see you guys smiling again!
Very entertaining vid, I knew that 550 hp wall was coming. The ls engines are so fun to watch make easy power
Putting a carb on an LS may be the "easiest" route, but certainly not the cheapest... Wouldn't the cheapest be all stock with the factory GM ECU flashed with HP Tuners or something?
Exactly. Over $700 for the intake and ignition stuff then they drop a $900 carb on it. For around a $100 flash to a stock computer you can drop in all the stock stuff.
@@joew7897 And retain your EFI, which is FAR easier to add boost or other power adders. So if you spend $500+ on an intake and ignition system, then another $400-600 on a nice carb for it, you're in Holley terminator territory. Which makes it even easier to have EFI that has built in capabilities for nitrous or boost, or whatever you wanted to add to it...
Probably the only way its cheaper is if you scored on a cheap long block, already have a carburetor sitting around, and don't have the intake and fuel injection setup.
If ya can’t tell products what where supplied by different manufacturers steer how the episodes go lol. How they gonna sell these parts if you got someone like Matt that comes in and does a dirty half ass build on a junk motor and makes a reliable ~800hp for less than they have bolt on parts
baggedmazda666 Oh for sure, wouldn’t we all love some sponsored parts?😂 I also subscribe to the sloppy mechanics train of thought. Quick and dirty, but functional. Just be sure to add ring gap😬
Great stuff guys, especially the "Working mans Bullet"! Thanks.
Very impressive Tech! You spoke plain and simple and added bolt on numbers! Saving this video as I've watched and learned scores of LS projects. You've found the the heavy duty sweet spot for an LS Build!
Had one in my 98 trans am ram air ws6 convertible. Amazing motor!!!
Exactly what I wanted to see guys!! Keep up the engine builds my favorite thing to watch period
Love it ,I could watch the projects all day !
Great episode lads. KW is the engine master. Thanks from Victor Harbor Australia 🇦🇺
Is it true you eat penguins?
This was my most favorite episode yet. Well done.
Great video, guys. 🙂 It's really useful to see which upgrades give benefits without other changes - one at a time. Keep up the excellent work!
Paul 😎
It would be really interesting to see y'all talk about what you do on the dyno controls. I'd like to see an extreme budget 5.7 mopar stroker build. Perhaps with a 6.1 cam?
Best tip yet for the LSuck scrap start over
This is the best episode i have seem! Real working man episode. I have plans for my 2017 Chevy truck.. and my 1970 Impala
Man I love this show with good breakfast I'm going to be watching it a couple of times at work
Love that 5.3 workhorse . I’m very impressed
It's a 6.0 lq4
Love your show on CZcams from Newfoundland Canada
Love that low budget junkyard Vortec!
Good episode.. Great information
Need more video like this!
I have 4L70E with heavy duty pinion and Teflon pads and with 5.3 with big cam , heavy springs , roller lifters putting over 400 HP . 4.56 gears . Silverado dual cab it runs great . I can pull 5000 lb trailer with ease . it s prefecto !
Can you guys please do an episode on the LS4? That engine never gets any love!
Just recently swapped out the 6.0L LS out of my 67 Firebird and dropped in an 1LR-GUE V-10 by Toyota Racing D. It’s got the same titanium exhaust off the Lexus LFA and screams just the same in my Firebird.
M. B. Myers I’ve always loved the sound of the LFA, since mine was wrecked I decided to get some more use out of it.
As you should
That was very impressive seeing the LQ4 get that toque up and in a 6.0 ltr.
A really interesting video would be unboxing parts for the engine before you build it
The exhaust manifolds are cast steel and can be easy welded to make turbo manifolds.
This is why old carb and thi blocks are dinosaurs, stock for stock and mod for mod LS kicks its ass
So happy I got a 5.3 in my 04 tahoe!!
Sweet bro
ls combinations? you should check out Richard Holdener's youtube channel.
He makes great videos. A lot of good information over there.
This is exactly what I wanted to see. 👍😎
Man I used to watch this on powerblock. I remember when Mike first joined
My engine power boys gettin OLD. With age comes more wisdom though. Great job guys
If you want to run a LQ4 truck block for a drag racing application get one that's been rebuilt at the very least. the pulls are fine for street driving and will give you years of service but not when you add high flowing heads and intake the old bearings seem to eat themselves quickly . If you buy a rebuilt one you will have a solid start that will make tons of power for cheap. it pays in the long run instead of having to keep replacing the pulls blocks every time one eats it's own bearings.
Great stuff
You can get lots of power out of those junkyard LS but if you gonna run a power adder like a Turbo that thing you gotta do is gap the rings because if you don't gap the rings and get high on the PSI she will squeeze the top of the piston and that will be it but once you gap the rings your safe to add the boost
my 6.7 L LS on the wheel Dyno it made 361 ft pds of torque and 274 hp
in my 2001 Chevy suburban. 4x4 2500
408 ci LQ4 LS
With spacers on the oil pump to clear the thicker timing chain, do you have to use an after market oil pick up or will the factory unit fit correctly?
I find it funny when Pat "arms" the nitrous and braces himself like he's blowing up TNT lol
THANX YAWL FOR ALWAYS GIVING US GREAT CONTENT.. COULDN'T BUY ENTERTAINMENT OR KNOWLEDGE AFFORDABLY WORTH IT TO NOT LEARN FROM YOUR VIDEOS. 😒💪🤗👍😇🍀🌳🌅🦊🐎🦞 best bang for your buck info and I Swear I Could Watch Yawls Videos Back To Back To Back ALL DAY EVERY DAY 😇🔥😎
What was the part number for the roller rockers. The summit racing rockers you installed before you changed the heads
So Kenny built Low & Slow 40 years ago🤣.
Seriously though. It used to surprise me just how many people don't know how long some of this "Tech" has been around. But instead of picking the brains of people like Kenny D., Gale Banks, Kenny Bell and those that are still with us, it's like everyone wants to start from scratch instead of building on what those men have learned over a lifetime.
I think Pat is jaded, being around top fuel, and pro stock race engines. Pat and Mike have the best job though, love this series of shows.
This is the engine my truck has!!😍
Those are some nice looking heads
This was a great episode. You show the average joe how to make big power on the cheap NOW. Do a Mopar show the same way HEMI
You guys do a great devilish job !
CHEESE AND RICE! That torque figure was massive, definitely playing with the devil.
i used to watch this show when it was joe and the big guy on it,cant remember his name,i could google it but dont care, and trucks had stacy david on it haha,it was good stuff back in those days.
On the lm7 what size carb are you using? I am building one putting a toqurestorm supercharger on it. Holley said to get the 750 brawler blow thru. Do you think that carb is to big to small or just right?
Thank You Thank You!!!!!!
id also like to see you guys convert to using compreesed air instead of gas or propand or diesel.
how did you change the cam with the heads still installed?
Hell, I'd watch an episode of these guys pumpin' gas.
That's the right economical approach.
good info, but what spark timing on first two engines, and what cam timing??
What's a good start for a 4.3.. I have a 96 blazer I want power but the milage. Its 2wd a small lift n tires thinking bout going a 283 or 305.. far as price goes want to do Holley sniper efi or carburetor
Now I want to see a 6.4 hemi💪🏾💪🏾
Would all of those parts on table work on a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab short bed 1500 LS with the 5.3 v8 vortec LM7 because i want to get my 5.3v8 to about 500 Horsepower
I wish you guys would do a '94 Lt1 5.7l build. I need tips on cam and rockers
Go to TPIS.com
I like how consistent they are in saying this is the cheapest way to get it running us to buy this but I am pretty sure it comes with everything to make it run without having to buy your sponsors crap
Love to see a 231 3.8 Odd firing gn build
949👍's up guys thanks again for taking us all along with you for the great show
36 years ago my Dad owned a auto salvage yard. My first build was a Chevy Monza Spider with a over heated factory motor. I swapped in a 302 chevy that was built. See my dad would not allow me to stick a 350 in because he thought cubic inches would mean to much horse power. Haha. Swapped out the engine and went to the track 110mph in the 8th. Scarry as hell.
Need some more LSX builds!
What exactly is the part number for the rocker arm ( first mod) thank you
That was a nice one 😳
I remember many years ago when Mike had join the HorsePower tv show..
the six liter block with a forged 4.3 crank a huge turbo and send it!
Would love to see you guys soup up a 8v92T . See what's possible
Going carb added some power too that stock lq4
Alright guys I really trust you so amaze me because your first run the numbers were about the same as a Vortec motor with a cam swap not being mean I love you guys
Love the show but what is it with you guys and carbs on ls's
They scared of computers
Now this is More like it and please give a price from oil pans to carburetor
If I was doing all that I would have went back with some 4.8l stock replacement pistons you can get a set with new rings for like $130 on eBay and pick up some compression
I want to see if you have a budget build and don't have the means to do fabrication. Like if you have to dent the header to get it to fit around a steering rack or other things of that nature, does it effect the flow and hp.
I built the 6.7 lq4 by stroking it and boring it what injectors should I run with the stock manifold and the stock heads
Hw do U pull up d parts dey used on d LQ4 truck engine? Went to dey site didn't c nothing.
stock manifold and fuel injection comes with the motor at the yard. add the cpu for 30 bux. thats cheaper than the "cheap" parts u threw at it, and probably works better.
Bet the cam bearings didn't look like the rod bearing!! Sweet set up!!
Can you guys do an Ecotec3 4.3L & a 3.7L Clclone V6. I'm convinced that these two engines will be incredible under boost.
LU3 dude which is Vortec SBC V6, LV3 is LT1 V6, lets see the atlas 2900, 3500,3700,4200.
This episode is awesome 😍😍😍😍
It would be nice to see a comparison of the same budget between the Ls and any other small block I’m gonna say as the price of the engine goes up the all mighty Ls won’t shine as bright and I’m a Ls guy!
Nice to see Amish Mike use a pistol grip when he's got the 'working mans bullet' on the dyno. It just shows his exceptional attention to fine details
Wow. Super
How about LR4/LY2, Also what about WHP (BHP) on a Automobile dyno.
Also how about Stock FI system.
What are they using to manage spark with a carb on a lbs?
I’ve never seen anyone out in the real world use feeler gauges to setup the oil pump. And I’ve seen hundreds of these engines built at various shops I’ve worked at.
5:03 does it change the dyno results to have the air filter off ?
Hi guy's. I need advice. I have a LS2 with a K1 408 rotating kit. Crank and conrods with Wisico K448X3 +5cc pistons, COMP Cams Ultra Pro Magnum Rocker Arms 1678-16 cam 1.8 ration, LS3 ported heads and intake. According to online compression ration calculators. I have a 12:1.1 compression ration. Cam spec's is : VCM 532 cam
Duration 215/223
Lobe Separation@ 112
Valve Inlet.583"
Exhaust.583"
What compression tester do you recommend for testing. I broke two compression testers. Any advices will be appreciate. Thanks for all the nice CZcams videos.😊👍
Also, I used that same timing setup with a Melling HV295 Oil Pump (with the spacers) and had issues with the pickup tube needed to be extended. Then the pickup tube boss, as well as the oil pump bolts all hit the timing cover. Finally the "slosh tray / oil baffle plate" in the bottom of the oil pan then hit the pickup tube once it was modified to move forward the 1/8"... You guys didn't discuss any of this...
the instructions for the timing set mention the bolts hitting the cover.
This is just another reason NOT to run a double roller. It's an absolute waste of money on a LS. Guys are making 1500hp reliably on single chains.
Outstanding levels of power, but I'm more on the budget side of things
What engine stand do y’all use?
Hey guys! My 07 5.3 lifter collapsed. Afm smh. Can you send my the parts from the junkyard build? I would love to practice and see if I'm able to do heads and a cam. Or at least a cam! Lol mise well do a cam while I have heads off. But I'm super broke currently.
Where did you guys get the lq4 block from?
