It would be bittersweet to say goodbye to FSX/P3D/XP. I've invested at least a couple grand from just the software side over 10+ years and I'm not mad at that fact. I've had a lot of fun and helped pay for developers to do what they love to do. In my personal opinion people who are on the fence because they spent a lot of money on the past flight sims, are not taking into consideration that this isn't just a prettier version of what we have now. So much of this new sim, from a technology standpoint, is a leap ahead from what we have now. Take for instance the atmospheric simulation, the wind actually collides with clouds because clouds are fully volumetric 3d particles. What this means is that you'll see that disruption as you fly in and out of clouds just like you feel it in real life. In P3D/XP, air goes right through clouds because out of the box, clouds are not volumetric. Yes, you can get programs that give you volumetric clouds but again, the base sim does not program the air to interact with 2d textured clouds. It's these little details I don't think people are taking into account, but it's the reason I'll be switching as soon as it comes out.

Great video Vince. One thing interesting about MSFS 2020 is that it looks to also be included in the Xbox Game Pass for PC, so the cost of acquiring the simulator is not as much as a factor as the decision to pay for add-ons. I've also been starting to be more interested in any add-ons that are offering free MSFS 2020 install if you buy the P3D version now. I purchased the new 737 for P3Dv4 for this reason.

That’s a very good point! We could also infer that there would be à base price + requirement of game pass to enjoy the full extent of the simulator. When I first saw the MSFS 2020 release videos I thought that's the death nail for sims like X Plane etc, however I've changed my mind from what I've heard and seen and trying to second guess MS, but the way I see it is:
1, Your system will have to be a beast to get the full experience.
2, You will have to have a fast/stable broadband connection to get the full experience, so you will be at the mercy of your ISP if your not on a cable connection. I know the developers have stated you can play off-line but then you won't get the full experience.
3, It sounds like it's going to be a subscription service, so for casual simmers it won't be worth it, but I can the see the business community and hard core simmers buying into it for flight simulation.
4, I hope I'm wrong on all of the above, but lets wait and see.

    • @davidtsw
      @davidtsw Před 4 lety +4

So think of it this way:
      1. Right now you may have spent thousands on the best hardware available and you still don't get silk smooth framerate you should be getting because X-Plane can't utilize multi-core/thread CPUs and runs on ancient OpenGL.
      2. They've said it will be possible to pre-cache the area you're interested in if you connection sucks.
      3. Considering how much people have spent on better clouds, better weather engine, better water, shadows, textures, buildings, this and that, it might not be that bad of a deal even if it is a subscription model. But we'll have to wait and see how much they ask for. Either way, the sim is going to be next gen for sure so we might have to pay more for it. Sounds fair to me.

      1. it will most likely run better than Xplane or P3D, if you can run either, chances are MSFS will run smoothly.
      2. the game supports caching of scenery and people who've tried it confirm it works on regular DSL connections.
      3. that's true, sub service most likely, the single scary thing. But considering on other sims you pay $100 for unfinished buggy airliners, and MSFS comes already with a 747 and an A320 among a lot of other stuff, how many years of subscriptions will it take to make it not worth it? 10? 12? :) Let's not even mention the $30-$60 for passenger sounds, weather... a lot of hoops to jump through.

Just my opinion, but I am reserving judgement for FS2020 until I see the product and what the pricing structure will look like. No question in my mind that the out of the box look of the new sim will not be as it is depicted in the videos Microsoft has released. I believe that in order to get to that level, some type of subscription based fees will be imposed and will have to be held in the cloud due to the huge file sizes. For me, I will see what the product looks like before reaching any conclusions.

I agree completely. Starting about 1.5 years ago with XP (after not using any FS for almost 20 years), I moved over to P3D in August because I found XP's lack of good aircraft (commercial), to be annoying. Out of the box XP was much better than P3D. I actually only bought a couple of 3rd party airports because I was satisfied with the default airports so much. But P3D has turned out to not only work better with my computer, but also has a lot more options. I spent a small fortune this past Christmas buying stuff that was on sale. Well worth it for me and I don't plan on getting rid of P3D any time soon. It will be interesting to see how the new FS does....but I still think these other sims will still be around. Hopefully they will step up and be more competitive. Lockheed should follow's XP's lead and let people update their airports for submittal. I mean it's free...and some people do a great job!

Hi. If we simmers all met in an English pub, we would chat about this for hours for sure. We have a saying, “You don’t know, what you don’t know.” I moved to P3D from FSX in October 2018. With a new PC and the add ons, I reckon it cost in excess of €3000. My PC will last for at least another 2years with the spec. I am in no hurry to move sim. I have P3D set up just as I want. Lastly, I cannot believe Lockheed Martin are doing nothing. Whilst flight sim will not be a great financial earner for them, they nevertheless are in the game. Will they allow MS to take over the business? Let’s see!!!

Meh. Flight sim is only one of my several hobbies I won't leave Xplane11 because of several fancy video clips and some people having an all expenses paid vacation to microsoft to fly in their demo sim. Besides spending several hundred hours flying various freeware and payware planes, I enjoy making good ortho. I have several addons for weather, textures and a lot of freeware airports. I do download ortho but I am not going to bother with a subscription with MS. Many parts of the US have data caps each month and in our household, we'd go over if I fly the same amount in MS I fly in xplane. Of course, I heard this varies. I am not worried about XP or laminar. The actual simulation is amazing especially considering its a very small team developing the sim and several hundreds of people developing third-party addons or the community that makes a lot of freeware. MSFS will have freeware but they won't merely survive without payware addons. In XP there are a few addons that will have 3d clouds, even Ultra Weather XP is working on 3d volumetric clouds and light illumination. I could have gone without a few payware addons but oh well. I am very happy with how it looks and performs overall. I even got an addon that replaces most of the autogen and default textures and it really improved the visuals. If it turns out that I am completely wrong (who is to say?) then oh well. I have a huge simulator I'll keep flying and maybe I'd try out the new MS. Then again, I will absolutely buy X-Plane 12 when its release, beta test before that, and keep on beta testing for other developers. And Dave is right....there might be quite a few that leave XP altogether. However, many did that with FSX was released a long while back but many jumped back on the XP wagon shortly after MS never updated anything. If XP is to survive they should help with other developers make it easy for weather addons, traffic and ATC otherwise.....people have to dance around their updates all the time.

The next decade starts in 2021 mate. But thanks anyway :) And yeah, I agree it depends on our individual situation. But I'd also say it's down to what kind of addon we consider buying. A fantastic, study-level airliner we always wanted ? Why not. But another cloud enhancement package which won't even be half as good as MSFS 2020 ? Probably not worth it. Personally, I've recently purchased SFD Global for X-Plane as well as Orbx TE Washington, but I don't think I'll be buying more. Might get a few cheap airports to fly between in my free Zibo 737, but anything else just feels wrong at this point. Having said that I'd love to get rid of those crappy clouds :D

The real question is, "Is it better?", and the answer is "in every possbiel way". It's not like this is a 3rd world community so you don't have $500 to upgrade your computer, or you are still on a dial-up. Almost anyone who really like flight sims will find the way to buy the hardware and play the most realistic flight sim ever.

I xame from Fs2000 and have had nearly every version of Microsofts sims to date. I will of course be getting the full version of this years new sim from Microsoft and also have bought P3Dv4 as well. I never got into Xplane and I will never buy it in the future. I think developers are panicking that simmers will not purchase their products if they continued to deliver their products according to their own release timeline before MS announced their own sim. Developers are actually hurting themselves now by rush releasing a lot of products out recently that are not finished. I have seen so many product releases lately that are not complete and require many updates after launch. I personally am not spending any more on P3Dv4 anymore going forward as I HAVE A LOT of products at the moment to keep me happy. I doubt i will be using P3Dv4 going forward in the way i use it now. I will most likely use it only to stream footage from P3Dv4 as everyone else will be streaming footage from MS new sim. I will not be using P3Dv4 as a flight training as I have been in the past as i can say that Ms new sim is more realistic in the planes they have shown.....

From all we know, FS2020 could not be ready for a whole year, and then what, wait a while year and still not buy an addon that you would maybe like ?
    I highly doubt it.
Also people tend to think FS2020 will be the Messiah, that everything will be perfect, do everything, fix everything, etc.
Let's be realistic here, it'll not.
Maybe for your casual airliner yes, but what about bushers, helicopters, multicrew, built-in multiplayer with an exact and precise netcode like DCS World ?
Also switching games like go to FS2020 and simply abandon your previous game also is dumb.
Why not just add FS2020 to your collection and keep playing the others aswell ?
There is a very long way before FS2020 will have the same level as my X-Plane setup has.
I still play FS2004, Falcon BMS, IL-2 1946, and there's a reason to that, other sims don't have their features.

Disappointing!!! I suppose Microsoft spent 50,000 dollars on balloons for the grand opening. The talk was about the fantastically detailed scenery and flying over your own house...now you're only going to be able to land at 20 airports unless you kick in another $30! 120 dollars for the deluxe ,super duper ,crem-de-le-crem adition???....What the fuk is Microsoft trying to do... raise money for a used Citation Jet or something? WOW....this is going to turn into a complete nightmare! Can anyone say BUST!!! I guess if I'm going to make the purchase (and I'm not ) then I'll need a signed statement by the Microsoft Corporation to the effect that I will be able to Add-on Airplanes from outside designers! That's the problem with these millennial punk-asses, they don't know what a C-47 or a Beech 18 is. I hope Microsoft wasn't marketing this toward some Island Nation like the Philippines or England. What do they have, about 25 airports between both of them? I guess they would be impressed by the bells and whistles of a 737 because that's they're experience with general aviation. For Christ sake's...go to flightradar or flighttracker on google and see how many general aviation aircraft are actually flying over England, Spain, France, Italy....the list goes on! That's why America has over 2,000 airports and you can find any number of old planes sitting on the apron like AT6 Texans, aeronca champs, Cessna 334's, Beechcraft V35 (v-tails)! About 100 U.S. citizens are going to buy this sim and the whole thing is going to FLOP! Maybe they can make an Australian edition...down there they might be impressed with 20 airports because that's all they really have! Somewhere in the back of my mind I thought this was too good to be true, and I was even going to build a gaming computer just for this! I've flown over 300 different Aircraft in FSX, balancing manifold pressures, RPM's,/prop pitch, mixtures, and monitoring fuel burn, altitude, airspeed and trim! And yes...I've flown the turbo props and the Heavy's! But Microsoft is going to offer us a fuking Jumbo jet and a Diamond aircraft...and a piss-ass number of airports to land at. Oh yea...I forgot..., for another 60 bucks you can get 10 more runways....christ! Isn't it just stupid ...you take off in a 737 and in 10 minutes you're flying over all the special weather that Microsoft created! Only people who don't know who Mr. Haney is from 'Green Acres' ( Americans should get this ) are going to get sucked into this shite!

    • @kylechen2767

no, there are 30-40 handcrafted airports, and all the other 37000 airports in the world are autogen. 60-120 dollars is completely reasonable. P3D's professional edition costs 200, xplane costs $60. And by the way, even the autogen airports look fantastic.
