As an American, I feel the same way as you, but I would still hold caution. While I am encouraged by these election results, we as a country could still just as easily slip backwards. It's like Winston Churchill once said, “You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing after they have tried everything else.”

There's a term I read in a fanfiction once that was called "anti-synergy." The idea is that, even though all of the individual parts may be passable, something about bringing together these people in this place at this time produces something toxic, something that perpetuated itself despite various changes being made, so that the only way to solve the problem was to break the group apart, scatter its individual pieces to the winds, and start anew.
I think that term summarizes today's Republican Party pretty well. Ever since I was a kid (under Bush Jr.'s administration) I've known and loved many genuinely decent-at-heart people who nevertheless continued to vote red and became increasingly taken in by conspiracy theories. But even though individual Republican voters aren't all evil, the things holding together the monstrous undead husk of a political party that they keep propping up very much are. Everything decent about it has been lost, even the basic notion of self-preservation that it retained under Obama; all that's left now is hate and selfishness and the most obvious and pathetic sort of posturing.
It's long past time for the Republicans to go the way of the Whigs before them -- to disband, and go their separate ways, and reform in a few years as a completely new party with a completely new platform that actually appeals to voters. I doubt that that will actually happen. But boy do I wish it would.

For sure, The late show has awesome writers, but I can't believe how skilled Colbert is when it comes to delivery. You would think he had eons of time for rehearsal. So smooth! This man is a genius.
All the years of improv comedy to hone his delivery paid off.
I liked him before the Covid lockdown and I really like him now since he came out of his little man cave. I hated those episodes for about a year and a half and almost got to the point I didn’t want to watch him anymore. I thought it was that bad. But I’m back to watching him now he seems much more at ease in front of the camera in the audience combined!
