Honestly I was surprised that Apple gave him a show at all. Knew that wouldn't last since Apple has their hands in so many dubious places that they want to avoid criticism from.

Stewart has always done an amazing job at self-deprecating.
It was a nod to Jack Paar who said the same thing on his return to The Tonight Show. Excellent reference and classy AF as per usual.

I had to come back here today because I keep reading about criticism of this episode (oddly from the left). Jon, and everybody else at the Daily Show, please keep doing what you are doing. A sane, rational look at the ABSURDITY of our times is exactly what we need. Thank you.
The criticism is not coming from the left. It's coming from liberals who, by definition, are right of center. Mainstream Democrats are not the left.

the only criticism I have is he called them both "equally competent". That's a blatant lie. Trump hemorrhaged government positions like crazy due to either them getting into scandals, them quitting because he kept throwing them under the bus or undermining their actual job, or him firing them for trying to keep him from committing crimes.

This is so poignant and well delivered with humor and a real message. This is what our news anchors should be giving us. We should be able to voice criticisms of elected or campaigning officials w/o fear of being labeled one thing or another.

I've been watching Colbert disintegrate into mockery of sounds and optics for a long time now. It is extremely refreshing getting Stewart's sharp wit back into the game.

Biden going back to the podium made me cringe so hard and so suddenly that I managed to pop a muscle.
It just looks so RIGHT to see him back behind that desk.
It was a pleasure watching this with my now-adult kids (22 and 24) who were too young to appreciate Stewart before he departed the Daily Show in 2015. They were rapt and laughing and asking if he was going to be on every night. Kudos and thank you to Stewart and Comedy Central, not a minute too soon.

This is the best way. We get the best of Jon without the burnout, and the Daily Show can operate as a 'news team' the rest of the week. I have no problem with Desi, Jordan, Roy, or anyone else on the team sitting behind the desk. I love them all, and Jon will set the tone each week.

Think I've watched the daily show like 20 times since Jon left. Back in the day I'd watch first daily show then colbert report on my laptop while eating breakfast as a teenager. While Jon at the Daily Show once a week isn't Jon and Colbert 4 times a week, I'll take what I can get and believe me, I'm very happy about it.

The Franklin Scandal and then blowing up Gary's plane with his son on board truly broke my soul. Just to cover up the Bush Sr. White House trafficking of vulnerable children from Boys Town to be used as honeypots for the political elite. Once you realize how dark it is you lose faith in humanity at large.

Dear Jon. You are loved beyond expression. Your presence in our daily consciousness has been deeply missed. Befitting the man(and entire team @TDS) that neatly represents multiple generations of critical thinkers returns at such a seemingly hopeless time. In times past , all cultures have been graced with champions of freedom , warriors of peace, holy women and men of all imaginable kinds. In my own meek and humble opinion, you Jon are one of these rare souls. A phenomena that brings and encourages a freedom of mind. Articulating simple truth in and of all. Much needed at this time. Jon Stewart needs to run for President which I know he's said he doesn't want the job but according to the the ancient Athenians that is why he would be perfect for the job. There is no logical explanation for believing that he is sharp and competent in all of his private meetings, but somehow can't pull it together in a single public one. Jon Stewart wasn't calling for them to record these meetings here, he was calling them out as liars without directly saying so.

I don’t think he wants it completely unfortunately. They’d love to keep him on since they don’t even know who to actually take over the show. But he probably only wants to do just the election cycle and leave again.
Jon is the Donald Trump of talk show hosts. One lucid day is way more than is reasonable to expect.
He doesn't want to do it fulltime anymore. That's why he quit about a decade ago.
Jon has a farm full of rescue animals to take care of. He’s not gonna abandon them to fill his life with stress and constant negative news again.
He's too tired to do it fulltime. He has that cool farm with animals so I don't blame him.
