Man who was homeless overcome with emotion as a Secret Santa surprises him with a new smile

- A Secret Santa is back and this Christmas is bigger than ever!
The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local man gift more than $500,000 this holiday season. A lot more. Secret Santa is a real person who wants to remain anonymous and hopes to help as many individuals in our community as he can.
Secret Santa learned about Alyn from an employee of a local company that hired Alyn for some temp work. Alyn had an excellent work ethic, worked hard to be proficient and always left his work area immaculate. The work we needed was off and on, and whenever the company called the temp agency, they always requested Alyn.
He began working for the company two years ago and was in a pretty dire situation. He struggled to make ends meet and his living situation turned for the worst. He ended up living in his truck and never told anyone. He never complained and was always on time for work. Since then, he has reunited with family and now has a stable place to call home.
Recently, Alyn was hired full time. His colleagues say he is the first one to arrive at work, works long hours, cancels vacations to work and makes sure to meet all his deadlines.
Before Alyn was hired full-time, he made the difficult decision to have all of his teeth pulled. He could not afford to get them cleaned or repaired when there was a problem and the infection became severe. He needs new dentures but has not been able to afford them.
Secret Santa asked the East Idaho News elves to grant Alyn's Christmas wish and we surprised him at work. Watch the video above to see what happened!

It is indeed life changing. Dental care should be better covered by insurance. If your teeth get badly enough infected, it could have dire consequences for your health. Yep. I’m in the same boat. It’s so embarrassing. Ppl look at you like you’re disgusting when they don’t understand how your teeth can end up that way. My issue is due to a biologic medication for arthritis and it’s caused all my teeth to rot. I’m only 44.

@catharine1967 thx hon. I’m a woman, tho. It’s hard when u have no money and no dental insurance. Chronic disease is just really crappy and the last thing u think about is what needed medications will do to your teeth. I used to have self esteem and confidence and now i don’t even leave the house cause I’m so embarrassed to talk to anyone.
@@frankie1012 Aww sweetie :`( Get an estimate. I did and it was about 1/5 what I'd thought it would be. Modern dentistry is amazing, what they can do, and almost always willing to find a way to make it work.

Having bad teeth affects every aspect of people's lives. They feel unattractive which makes their self-esteem low...they worry about their breath and it's also bad for your health generally so this is wonderful!
I agree. My wife is a hygienist, and I'm an old guy with braces. Good teeth can change your life.
@@Valkonnen you need to sign up at a accredited dentist school for free dental work which is perform by students that is overseen by real dentist, there is usually a waiting list but if you cannot afford the dental work it is a great option!!! My friend had his teeth pulled and got dentures for free his smile is fantastic now!!!

Whenever I am feelings overwhelmed or stressed about my life, I watch Secret Santa videos. You all have an impact that is so much wider than just the person or people who are receiving!
A real honest humble hard working man, a real role model for anybody who has the courage to follow his example.
It amazes me that dental health is never part of the discussion when it comes to the discussion of healthcare reform. I was poor as a kid and many nights went to bed with a toothache because my parents couldn’t afford treatment. It’s just plain wrong. Dental health should be a right, not a privilege!

totally agree Robert. dental work is very expensive and even people such as myself who have dental insurance struggle with the out of pocket costs. dental is so important for the homeless. many want to work but are embarrassed and sometimes are considered unemployable due to their teeth or lack thereof.

exactly...bad teeth are excruciating. So many people are disadvantaged by poor health/dental care in childhoo, which can lead to life-threatening infections.

I experienced this in the TINIEST way when I chipped a rear molar, leaving a sharp edge cutting into my cheek whenever I smiled too broadly... TWO HOURS before seeing stand-up comedy on a rare date night with my wife just after our first was born

@@debbiehogue6957...thank you. Im at about 75% and im fortunate i had my va benefits. They gave 5 tratments of a treatment called the silver bullet and it worked. I feel for the people that dont get this kinda care. Even though im laid off since april im blessed beyond any monetary means. Stay safe god bless you and your family and have a Merry Christmas. Oh gawd, I just can't imagine the people that have to suffer with bad teeth. I have had a tooth ache OMG it is just the most painful thing. That is just so wonderful.

I don't have even one whole tooth anymore. I am elderly & on fixed income. I wanted to find someone....but it would have to be an oral surgeon. I went to a dental clinic a few years ago, and that dentist just told me to leave it how it was, and let them be "assimilated" back into the gums!! Well....they aren't back in the gums! They break off & now all have. Can't chew very well & had a shard hurting a couple days ago, but it's gone now. See, it's not just cuz I'm poor...I have something called Sjogren's Syndrome that's caused it. I finally last year got a Medicare supplement that gives you one thousand a year for dental needs. I see that's not alot, I can't do anything tho' until Covid stops being so virulent, if that ever happens.
I am so sorry for telling you all this, I don't know why I am. Gosh, I've been in my little apartment since Covid19, mainly in bed!!

This is huge! Dental care is so expensive, even WITH insurance. I was told that I needed a tooth pulled, and that to get just a titanium prosthetic tooth was going to be at least $3000. Well, I was in my early 20s at the time, right out of college, first real job....I didn't have three grand! Luckily that dentist was mistaken and I didn't need the tooth pulled, but that number has stuck with me every since.
it’s unreal expensive!!! i’m 27 years old in canada and i can’t even afford to have my teeth cleaned without the help of my parents.... and if i have cavities on top of that it’s like another $800..... you’d think canada would have better insurance for dental but nope 😔
@@mirameyer9118 Canada must be one of the most expensive places for dental work. Crowns $4500, and filling replacement $2000. Each. But I think there is something where if you pay more than a certain percentage of income on a medical/dental expense you can take it off income tax. So, if you have retirement savings and use that it could help, even though it means working til you are 70....

This video hit home pretty hard with me. My father has went about 30 years without teeth because of multiple injuries and not being able to afford any dental work. He is now 70 years old and hasn't been able to have any raw veggies or certain snacks and foods that he'd love to be able to eat. I'm so happy that this guy is now able to get that new smile. So many people have no idea what it's like not to be able to enjoy something so simple of a snack as a carrot or celery stick. Great video. I love these videos so much because nothing like that ever happens where I live.
What about Medicaid or Medicare? Pres Trump The Affordable Cares act look into that.

Have you ever looked into community organizations that may be able to help? I work with seniors in my business and have discovered resources in my community that often help people with dental needs when they can't afford it. For example, we have a local medical clinic that has drastically discounted rates for dental (depending on income) and who will let you pay over time. I also have clients go to Mexico, have their dental work done by American dentists but at a fraction of the price.
@@lindadurand247 Actually, no. You can get a quality Medicare Advantage plan for $0 in many areas - not all areas...still have to pay Part B for $148.50 though. Many of those plans will cover dental, some up to $2000 per year. (I'm a Medicare-insurance agent.)

Its a little over $3K to just have my upper teeth pulled not including dentures or getting lowers pulled etc...That the lowest price I can find. If I had the money I'd help CassandraK! Mine are so painful and the infection is so bad but I can't imagine being on a transplant list and not being able to receive a transplant. That breaks my heart for her 💔 🙏
My brother is law just went through the same thing with his teeth for the same reason, needing a kidney and pancreas transplant. Bless you and I'll keep you in my prayers.
My Dad's health went down quickly when he had tooth infections. I'm sure his life expectancy was shortened plus the pain .

People don't realize how easy it is to slip through the cracks. So many of us live paycheck to paycheck and you just need one thing to happen to lose everything. Once you fall it's so hard to get back up without help. This was beautiful. He seems like a good guy and deserves everything he got. I hope they bring him back with his new smile. I've never understood our medical and dental healthcare system. It needs to be fixed. ❤❤❤❤❤

I sure wish we had someone like this in our area. I know so many people that are in such need both great and small...i also have the same issues that this man has and had and to be gifted with something like this would be a game changer...people have no idea how even the smallest of gifts can mean the world to someone and how simple acts of kindness can even save someones life.
