Bee Gees - "Fanny Be Tender" - Who is Mrs. Fanny?

- Fanny was a lady heavy black and the sweetest women. She would help that brothers with taking care of the house and some individual needs. She could cook, clean, and was a pleasure to be around with a sweetness to her. While they were writing the song, she came into the room and that when they said FANNY. Thats the story. The song was written in Miami and I would see her at parties just so very proud that the brothers used her name in one of the greatest songs ever written in my eyes.

I'm listening to this Bee Gees masterpiece in 2023. It is still one of the best songs ever written, sung by the best group that ever existed....
Probably their greatest song. Their harmonizing is gives me goosebumps and brings me to tears. Thank you Barry, Robin and Maurice for years of some of the best music ever recorded.
Great comment. I feel the same way
Damn right….
Real talk✨
It's nearly all Barry. He overdubbed his voice over a dozen times. There is only one recording of the song, they never performed it, they said it was too difficult to do live.
I react the same way.
One of my favourite song of the bee gees. Been listening to this song for almost 45 years and never gets tired of it.
It's amazing that there are only 3 voices in this song. They sound like an entire choir. An outstanding choir at that.
They likely overdubbed- but it doesn’t matter- they had license. It’s a gorgeous song and it is theirs.
This was highly produced which is why they never sung it live.
I read that they have 16 layers of music and singing. It's why they didn't perform it live. It's an incredible song.
You can hear Barry's voice three different times at once! couldn't be done live
@@michpackfanIt can be done live but not exactly like the original studio recording.
Too much heaven is even more complex since it has 27 different vocals.
I'm certain it could've been sung live but without Barry's ad libs & little bit different.
Such a heartfelt song. This was their mom’s favorite. Mine too.
i still say the one of the best bands ever that will live on long arfter they have gone
Marcio lindo greyck, inova aí atualiza tua vidinha pra nós, meu amadinho beijos.
“Do you think I’m going to stand here all night in the rain?”, brilliant
F-Ing A right… agree 100%
I would have waited in a thunderstorm for the boy I loved😂
And it's Robin's beautiful voice singing that part. I love all 3 of them, but Robin's voice gives me goosebumps ❤❤❤.
It's 2020... and I still missed the Bee Gees so much. I get so emotional every time I see Barry singing alone Without Robin and Mo!
Arguably their finest recording, shame it's not better known.
the way they harmonize the vocals is amazing.Never heard anything quite like this.
They were doing it every day since childhood
Their voice range classification is unheard of, no pun intended.
And you will never hear it is unique since childhood lollipop lollipop
I love when young people find out just how good music was with real musical instruments
Ever hear of the 3 Dog Night?!
Mo was possibly the most talented of the three. He could play almost any instrument, his musical arrangements were beyond compare and his voice was so very good, he just never took the lead enough. I just don’t think he ever got enough credit. He could smile and the world wanted to smile with him, so good looking. Gone to soon and missed so much❤️❤️
Instrumental he was the most talented, the other two were better lead singers , and Barry the best songwriter.
😪😪😪😪
Barry is miles away more talented
100 percent absolute correct statement: Mo was brilliant at creating, arranging, & producing momentous sound tracks, & sadly never received recognition for his outstanding versatility; we are not only talking about a man that is a creator of melodies, with a superb soulful R&B vocal range that hit perfect pitch harmonization, he also was a multi talented instrumentalist; all self taught! Aside from that, he was a genuine giving loving soul. It takes a certain kind of Brother to stand toward the back of the stage so that the other two get more light shined upon them; that was Maurice Ernest Gibb; the all-important, yet forgotten, third voice in the Bee Gees blend of vocal harmony genius. If there had not been the silent strength of Mo with all the friction & the spark between the boys, as band mates, & in brotherhood, there would be no Bee Gees. Period! Of course I am bias having had a personal & emotional connection with my Darling Andy, but it is still a true statement. The only spotlight given to my Precious Mo, & Darling Andy by the tabloids & media rags was on their personal struggles, which all the boys encountered; but there were only two that took the brunt of the outlandish articles printed that were either exaggerated or erroneous; & it took its toll on them. I appreciate you taking notice of how Mo was so grossly underrated & ignored. Thank you!
@@lisadee. Barry did all those things as well plus being the leader of the band. It’s Barry song writing that helped their success.
Barry's falsetto is insane!!!!
Kiona McNutt one of the best ever...
I read a story years ago after the disco era died down that Barry HATED singing falsetto. It hurt his voice and was difficult to do...BUT....it put them in a much higher plane when compared to other bands of those days. Although they made fantastic music on both sides of the disco era they'll probably be defined by that time more than any other.
Love them , even now……❤
Beautiful song. One of their best songs. Barry's falsetto is amazing!!!!!
Definitely one of my favorites of theirs. I miss music like this being played on the radio.
No one can compare with their melodies. Fanny is an incredible song, tremendous lyrics, great, great music. We always love listening to them. Thankful for what they gave us !!!.
My all time favorite Bee Gees song. I never get tired of hearing it.
I miss you Mo and Robin!! RIP 🙏 ❤😢
Barry's voice stunning in this
Just finished HBO documentary and this song stood out as my favorite. 3 dudes asking a woman to be tender???? Omg. How sexy is that????
I came here to echo this very sentiment.
One of the best albums MAIN COURSE, from the best band in history THE BEE GEES. PERIOD
Tienes toda la razón, grandísimo álbum, rompen con su etapa anterior,...que ya era buena..un saludo desde Sevilla..España
A very handaome Robin and Maurice, we love you rest in peace. You will be missed. Long live Barry Gibb
Possibly the best song of the bee gees. minutes of inspiration!!!!
I love them very much
Run to me, too is very beatiful.
There are soooo many great songs and depending on my mood the favorite changes so I can't pick :)
they produced an embarrassment of riches musically, it feels impossible to pick one. but if I HAD to pick, this is their greatest achievement. its unique I think. the structure makes it a challenge to sing. the melody is hook laden, the harmonies get a chance to show what they can do. a lesser band wouldn't even attempt this.
@@jv-ep2tc Yes, in fact, i never listened a Fanny live version......maybe, too many voices at the same time to perform in front of the crowd!!!
It's April 11 2024, and I love the BeeGee's music.❤
Until today there’s never been a singing Trio like these Legends . I’ve loved their songs right from Saturday Night Fever . Love this band for live.
Wonderful blend of voices...Barry...Robin...Maurice...true geniuses...extraordinarily talented...the best
Fanny is my absolute favorite if their songs! My daughter is named Frances and goes by Fanny!!
Love you Bee Gees forever! Especially my secret boyfriend Barry Gibb😘❤️😍🥰
I was born in '97 but bee gees will forever have a special place in my heart they were the first band ive ever listened and fell in love with their music is so unique the 3part harmony, vocalization, ballad songs, falsetto, their so special MY FAVORITE ALL TIME BAND
The Beatles could never harmonize like this.
and yet the Bee Gees say the Beatles were their idols!
mrsullyrox Barry and the others showed great humility. IMHO they are just as good.
And they were teenagers at the time the Beatles started on the radio.
One of my favorite songs by the Bee Gees. I'm retired now, but I used to play this song in my car's CD player, every day, driving to work! Put me in a good mood for the work day! 😊🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
They're so pure and original in style their songs are so; unique esp.their voices.....luv them all...
I randomly came across Fannie Be Tender yesterday and was BLOWN away with its beauty and emotional connection for me. I felt immediately transported back to the 70’s feeling all the wonder and pain of a young love. Unquestionably one of the most beautiful instrumental songs ever written.
Word has it this was their Mom's favorite song. It was inspired by their house maid I read.
Still remembering as yesterday then I was very young sitting with some of my young girlfriends, a guy who was visiting our town came sit down and asked me what was my name, when I told him what my first name was, he replied... there's a beautiful song from the Bee Gees with your name, I didn't believe him, back on those days, Bee Gees were the top of all bands, we were in the disco era, but one day I found out that really there's a beautiful song from Bee Gees titled: Fanny 🌻🌷🌸
Certainly one of their more underated tunes ....
This is one of my very favorite Bee Gee songs. I almost forgot about it. Thank you ❤❤❤.
Totally harmony and pitch perfect rhythm. Not to mention a fantastic bass sound all throughout the song. These guys were on the top of their game in the 70's. They deserve all the accolades they get.
All because the brothers listened and took in what Arif Mardin told them. The brothers words not mine. A great song anyway. At the top of my BeeGees play list.
Crying shame the music of today does not have this quality.
I love the bass line in this song. Mo was a true artist.
if you think about these are the most famous 4 brothers of all time,,andy maurice robin and barry, wow what a family of success
Maurice is my favorite...a velvety, manly voice! Could listen to him all day...wish he did more lead. However, the three voices together are simply amazing!!!
Me too! I've always said that Barry and Robin both had such unique voices but Mo's voice was the best solo voice. I love his voice in the First of May duet he did with Lulu. Mo once said one brother singing was ok, two brothers was good but the three of them together was magic. So true!
Mine also
I love Maurice! I still start to tear up when listening to his voice and seeing his handsome face. I love his hairy chest too!
I always thought I was the only one who liked Mo the most. Until I read the comments on youtube 😄❤️
They ALL had hairy chests - even Andy.
I truly love this song because it strikes a nerve in me. I think about my past love who didn't work out. I played it like a thousand times already. this will never get old to me
My wife's favorite band and her favorite song of all artists. She passed on Mother's Day 2012. Every time I hear this song I cry for her.
@@jimhowland8965 Awee Jim, just remember this is Not the end. You belong to each other and you will be with her again 🤗🤗
I agree totally. I loved this song so much that I bought a 45 version as well as the LP. I would put the 45 on the turntable and raise the arm. When you raised the arm, the song just kept playing over and over. So, I would just keep singing along with the music while I was doing my work. Such a wonderful tune, especially the high notes were the most fun to sing. Thank you BeeGees!
Only a thousand lol
@@maryleecarrier149 oh, the old 45’s!, great era, wasn’t it?
my mom's name was Fannie and I just love this song you don't find too many people named Fanny nowadays it's just really hit me to my soul thank you BG's love you forever
My dad was the PM for Omaha's historic WOW-AM back in this time and he met the Bee Gees twice not to mention all the other top performers of that time (your's truly remembers an evening back stage at 5 with John Denver!!) but my Dad told me of everyone he met in those days, Mo was the one person who stuck in his head the most. What a sad day it was for all of us when he died. One of those people who really mattered to the world.
I have lived in Omaha all my life and have been a Bee Gees fan since 1967. I remember seeing them in concert here in the early 1970’s❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful voices that will never be matched
❤ all three of these gorgeous men have beautiful voices that harmonize together you’ll never see another group that can sing together the way they do and they all know how to play all kinds of instruments they’re just absolutely beautiful. Their songs are wonderful and people always are still singing them, and will always remember them. We love you Bee Gees.
This might be my favorite song but there are so many great songs to choose from... Barry has always been my favorite!!
Mine too.💗
Robin looks really healthy in this picture.
they don't write songs like this anymore ... not sure anyone can ,
i have...but cant sing..looking for musical talent like Barry..this is REAL music..not garbage like most of today's...noise..u have 2be emphatic with HEART!!! SOUL....
Bee Gees were unique, no other group can be compare to them, THE BEST OF THE BEST!
You do realize that they have written over 1000 songs right???
@C. S. Robinson I first found the BeeGees as a 11 year old girl. I didn't know what I had discovered. (Through my teenaged older aunt) I don't think I appreciated them as I should have. They are completely amazing.
Over 40 years later and, imo, Barry Gibb is still oneof the sexiest men to walk the planet of all time and his deep voice gives me chills. I maintain he really is the reason the brothers flourished. I look forward to the new movie to be directed by Kenneth Branaugh.
I agree with you.☺️
Fanny Be Tender with my Love is my absolute FAVORITE song by The Bee Gees! And that sexy Barry Gibb- he can do no wrong ❤️🥰
I'm a 70s baby. I can remember "helping" Daddy work on one of his ever changing muscle cars & hearing these songs coming out of the speakers on the car! The absolute best memories! I miss my Daddy he'll be gone 5 years in May. Grateful for those memories & for the 3 for being the soundtrack for memories between a little girl & her Daddy...I always crushed on Mo. Daddy could play any instrument with strings & piano. Similarities have been pointed out between Daddy & Mo that they favored enough to be brothers. I'm all like, don't say that! Then my crush seems creepy 😅... If Daddy looks like Mo, just means me & Momma had good taste...
Robin
Barry
Maurice
Eternamente lembrados por sua criatividade, vozes e talento!
I love Bee Gees!
From Wikipedia:It was written by Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb and Maurice Gibb. In a 2001 Billboard magazine interview with the Bee Gees, Barry claimed that:
"We had a housecleaner named Fanny when we stayed at 461 Ocean Blvd. [in North Miami Beach] during the making of Main Course. We were sitting in the lounge at Criteria [Studios] writing the song with the lyric idea, 'Be tender with my love'. Maurice turned round and saw Fanny and said, 'Wouldn't it be a better song if it was a woman's name in there, and you're asking her to be tender?".[5]
Thanks for your kind information on Wiki articles. I wonder who is 'you' in Mo's words. His brother? It's funny if 'you' indicates Fanny herself because 'her' is Mrs. Fanny a housekeeper or a housecleaner. Sometimes I'm confused and cannot see meanings in their lyrics, esp. who is who because 'you' and 'her' or 'she' is mixed up to use.
ernester middlefield this might clear it up: Mo saw Fanny and THEN SAID TO HIS BROTHERS "hey, wouldn't it be better if we put a woman's name in there? And the person in the song is saying FANNY, be tender with my love instead of JUST be tender with my love." Mo was suggesting this to his brothers, NOT talking to Fanny. (Hope that helps to clear it up.)
Oh, thanks a lot for your explanation! It's easy to understand:)
Fascinating.
Paulvon128
They probably all had a crush on her.
Brilliant Song! Only The Bee Gees Magic!
Greatest pop song ever written
+1mikera Exactly!
I so agree:) Love this song:)
This song brings back good memories with my late sister. We both loved the Bee Gees.
Me too. My, late, oldest brother brought home their 1st album ( actually their third, but the first 2 were not released in the U.S. ) way back in "68 ( ?) . Love at first listen !
To me it is one of the best songs of BG
1 of my favorite of the countless beegees songs Never get tired of there beautiful music. All we have now are memories of how great they are as musicians. It's already 2023 & i still played there music everyday at home like a routine of my daily chores & it makes my day. It's just so sad that all of the beegees brothers are all gone now. They are legends that nobody cn compare. Lyrics of there songs are just incredible. Love u beegees forever. Good that we still have videos watching them as if they are just alive & doing concerts anywhere❤
Natural talent. Brothers!
Bless. The. Bee Gees.
Robin and Barry trading back and forth at the end is amazing
High school song!! good memories ! let's go back! if we only could,
How true!
Yes, so true.
I love this song I never get tired of listening to it
I wish I we could go back to 1976! No wars, no terrorists....🌸
Vietnam and the Munich Olympics???
The Munich Olympics massacre was in '72 and the Vietnam war was over by '74.
You didn't know they were there . Badder minhouf , red bridage .Bombing 5th corp HQ .. @sean 1975 ? Lay of the ? what ever. covert . To 76.
Air America..
I love the Bee Gees, and mostly all the 60's and 70's music but I'm sorry to disappoint you, the 70's were absolutely a chaos in terms of politics. Italy: kidnappings and assassinations, South America: dictatorships, USA: Vietnam, and so on
Their best song by far 🤗
My favourite Bee gees song 👏👏👏
I love this picture of ❤Robin he's my favorite 😢😊
Only three words. I Love you!
Wonderfully song!
I love Bee gees the best group ever! Very talented.thank you for the great music and wonderful songs❤️❤️❤️😍👍👍🌹🌹
I think this song is really beautiful, amazing...but bee gees the best band, l love them forever!!!
Preciosa canción cuánto diera por volver a esa época 😧😧😧😘😘😘
Just image running on a beach listening to this song! I could run for miles and get lost in the song! WOW
It's December of 2022. Fanny is one of my favorite songs. Fanny is the housekeeper they had at their studio in Miami.
@@junesmith4159 Yes, it's a wonderful song. The best one they have written I m.o.
I played this song over and over in high school💜
I love this song. If I have another daughter I will name her "Fanny".
One of their many greatest hits and beautiful songs ever written. I love the Bee Gees :) grew up listening to them. I will always love them...brings me back to my childhood in the 70's when they were at their peak with all their great music during that time. Awesome musical geniuses of the 4 Gibb brothers. They were Awesome.
This was released when? 1976? It's 2020 and I still blubber like baby when I hear it. God made perfection when He made the Bee Gees.
Robin, the best!
2023 and this song is IT!!!!!
Robin was always my favorite. Mo said no one whispered in his ear.
Reminds me of my first real love , if only I'd known how much pain it would give me .... didn't realise how significant this record would be at the time , can still feel the hurt over 40 years later . Pathetic I know . 😕
It's not pathetic Peter, it's human!
Nicholas Mullarkey In my opinion this is one of the things that is so beautiful about the BeeGees music - you feel like others share the emotions you are feeling and that somehow makes you feel a little bit better.
Awesome song by 3 amazing people.
I was born 1978 and my daughter is a mellinial but we do love the brothers Gibb and all of their songs and concerts. Kudos Bee Gess we love you
Rest in peace Maurice and Robin Gibb 😥 Gone but not forgotten.
And Andy too tho' he wasn't a BeeGee
Luv luv LUV this song!!!!😻😻😻😻
A brilliant piece of music. I was only 7 and 8 years old when it came out and remember that this is what finding true love would be like
Love this song
The story of the song is true. I used to work with Fanny's niece Felicia back in the late 1970s in Miami. Fanny worked for a company called "Home At Last" that catered to celebrity clientele and she took care of the Bee Gees' when they relocated to Miami and began to record at Criteria Studios.
themotownboy1 Robin even confirmed it in an interview for the Magnet Promo Tour. Fanny was a house cleaner he said
Omg this is such a precious story.makes me love them even more
What a dream job!
She should get Royalties for that beautiful beautiful song. Bee Gees #1 in my book forever simply the Best.
the best ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love you Barry Gibb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BARRYMANIACA amiga ❤️♥️
Love this song....The best ever!!
+James Wentz I will don't u worry!!! LOL jk
The story behind this song makes me love the BeeGees even more!!
I saw an interview with Robin he said Fannie was the maid and she was his live and this sing was inspired by Fannie! Robins Love❤️
En mi opinión, es una de las grandes canciones de todos los tiempos y lo mejor que es escrita e interpretada por los hermanos Gibb que le dan ese toque vibrante y emocionante a cada unas de sus melodías. ❤
My all time favorite Bee Gee song!! Love it!!!
Their best, including everything on the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack. An incredible piece of music.
THE BEST SIDE B SONG IN HISTORY.
"Fanny be Tender" was an A side. "Country Lanes" was the B side.
A great song! The Bee Gees' best song! I wonder if Fanny's still alive?
Bravo, The Bee Gees!
Beautiful. ❤
Maurice (or as Barry called him Mo) suggested that they put a woman's name in this song
while they were writing it. When they saw their housekeeper walk in the room, they said,
"FANNY be tender with my love" From their Main Course album and one of my Favorite songs
from my high school years,
ah, first i rise, then i fall;
seems like you dont want the love of this man at all.
and its sure been a lonely time
right up to the time i met you.
so if you take a love like mine,
ooh, be tender with my love,
you know how easy it is to hurt me.
fanny, be tender with my love,
cause its all that ive got
and my love wont desert me.
so you say to yourself, boy,
youre out of your brain;
do you think im gonna stand here
all night in the rain?
and its the start of a love affair
the moment when i first met you.
and if you want ill take you there.
ooh, be tender with my love,
you know how easy it is to break me.
fanny, be tender with my love,
cause its all that ive got
and my love wont forsake me.
ooh, with my love,
our love will seal it together.
oh, with our love,
L
Go ahead girl you know those words, Silvia be gentle with my love you know how easy it is to hurt me. Simply beautiful.
This is a beautiful song, maybe one of the loveliest written in this era! They didn't sing it in concert because of the many technical overlays in the recording. They thought if they sang it live, the audience would be disappointed.
Pity they didn’t- with their sibling vocal dynamics, they could have soared through all three of those modulation/ key changes and sent a chill down everyone’s spine sitting in that (any) venue!
Thank you for a story for Mrs. Fanny!!!
Eternamente Bee Gees 😢😢😢😢
