    l'll never forget this. l'm now 43, and this was my first FIFA world cup. l was 8 years old, getting into football, growing up in good old london in 1986,
    l was watching this in my home on the TV with my older brother and my uncle in east london. And with maradona's first goal?... i always vaguely remember the first thing my uncle shouting was. ''he's handled it''. and then we saw maradona running off, and then the england players surrounding the referee. And watching the replay again...l thought WOW.......
    Maradona said in a interview years later. He's shouting his team mates over saying ''get over here or they are gonna disallow this''. Which his what exactly his team mates did, and the of cource goal was given....Watching the replay. l agree with terry butcher. the referee and linesman have f**ked up big time haven't they. Let's be honest...How did they both miss that?....surely one of them had to have seen it...but they did'nt
    Then watching the second goal?.... My mouth dropped again. ....The second goal from maradona and the impact of that goal was pure class...And all the kids are trying to do that goal on the park the next day. But of cource with no luck...lol....
    But one thing is for sure...Argentina would not have won that FIFA world cup in 1986 without maradona...l know people still hate him in england for his hand of god goal.
    But l actually don't. He is one of the greatest football players ever.....
    RlP diego maradona, bobby robson, brian moore and lan st john.

      Nik Reece same here. I'd started going to watch United at Old Trafford in November 1985, the season before this World Cup . Its probably still my favourite World Cup tournament. Staying up late to watch the games, thinking we were out after the 0-0 with Morocco and then thinking how good we were after beating Poland and Paraguay. Barnes should have come on at half time in the Argentina game though. If only Lineker could have grown an extra couple of feet, we would have got to 2-2 and then it's anyone's game.........

    I love Gary Linekar man. He is very honest. He interviewed Maradona in 2005 and that was wonderful. He is genuine and has big heart to say in front of his teammates, that he loves Diego and has forgiven him. Steve Hodges was faking it though, when he said Maradona shouldn't have done and gotten away with it. He sold that shirt (which was estimated in this documentary to be around 300K pounds) for an astonishing figure of 7.1 million pounds.

    Bobby Robson was one of the best National Coach ever. I did like him very much despite I supported Argentina to win that 1986 World Cup. Bobby and his English soccer team produced some beautiful display during 5 matches in that competition especially Gary Lineker dan John Barness. The fair play by the English side made the quarter final become one of the best match ever in the history of World Cup to worldwide talks.

    The referee Ali Bennaceur was the best man for the game. He officiated at an unprecedented two consecutive finals at the Africa Cup of Nations as well as the politically sensitive 1985 under-20 World Cup quarter-final between the Soviet Union and China. FIFA considered him as a safe choice for such a potentially volatile game. The only problem is his lineman let him down. He started to moved to the center line as soon as Maradona scored

Diego hizo algo no muy común en el, lo invito a comer a su casa junto a sus padres e hijos, luego lo llevo a conocer la bombonera de boca juniors. Eso demuestra el cariño que le tenía. Interesting documentary and I always remember my brother saying to me prior to the World Cup 90 “England should have won that”
    But my view is this:
    Yes the goal never should have stood, however having seen the full match I think Argentina was the stronger team on the day overall and would have progressed to the semi finals either way Maradona was at his peak in that World Cup and was simply unstoppable.
    Because I’ve never been an England fan I’m able to look at this with an impartial view.
    Yes it was the worst way to lose an all important tie but if the goal had not stood I still think Argentina would have come out on top.

    • @jorged06
      @jorged06 Před 2 měsíci

      Argentina were much better until Barnes came in. But there is no way that english team was champion material. In 1990 though I think that England could have won the WC. I liked that english team and I´m argentine. I love Maradona and my selección argentina, but 1990 argentina was painful to watch.
      I think England deserves a WC. First, so they stop crying about a foul that happened almost 40 years ago, but also because they´ve had bad luck many times. In 2026 England could be the most serious contender.
