Watching these docs after his passing though, you can tell Maradona is the bigger player. Even though Messi touched millions around the world for his unreal footballing skills and humble behavior off the pitch, Maradona touched people on a human level. His "football brain" also worked faster than anyone else's, his speed of thought was amazing. Add to that, he is still the most skillful player I have seen. He also took his fair share of dirty tackles, in a time when ref's were more lenient. What he did at Napoli I believe, also sets him apart from Pele and Messi. Just the best football player I have ever seen.

One of the top comments here. If Messi played during the Maradona years, he wouldn’t be what he is today. The referees back then allowed the defenders to get away with very dangerous tackles. Messi never encountered that kind defenders. On top of that, the refs protecting the players now.

  • @nepaliguy6537
    @nepaliguy6537 Před 3 lety +45

People needs to read about him. Watch him
Why he is regarded as the GOAT outside of stats. What he did for Argentina, how never has there been a World cup such dominated by one man and won for his nation. World stage. Against England - backstory of the Falklands '82. Put him out of Arg team and Napoli - ponder if they would have won at all. It was his great leadership, charisma, his desire and guidance - that's what seperates him from Messi/other players. How can you quantify such impact for a nation/ city that was looked down upon over longevity in great teams or consistency over long years?
    Different gravy.
Then, what he did with Napoli. Magical stuff - 2 Serie A title with gap in between so not a one-off like Leicester. In the 80's - probably the best league in the world at that time. They still haven't won it since he's left Italy.
Then what you will see at the end and understand why this man was worshiped like a God. Treated like one. The greatest of all times - my father swears he's never seen a better player. He will be talked about for hundred of years to come, legends never die.
What a player he was. RIP.

One of the most logical things which the city of Naples, and SSC Napoli need to do is when they (finally) build a new stadium (which they need it desperately - more than any other top club) is to also make a bronze statue of El Diego outside the stadium, just as Old Traford has B. Charlton, San Siro has G. Meazza, etc, etc.
A new, modern big stadium - not like those nonsense ideas we hear from A.D. Laurentiis in the last years, about building a small, 25K stadium - WTF is up with that? I know he has huge problems with the Italian bureaucracy, in his attempts in getting a permit to build a new stadium, or to buy out San Paolo and renovate it, but still, a 25K? Just to make them look like fools? If he does that, he'll only make the team look like fools and a small provincial club!
Napoli's current attendance is 47K, and if they have a new, modern stadium, without the athletic track, it'll only go up - all the examples prove that a team that builds a new & modern arena, increases its attendance by 10% to 25%. Just look at Atletico M., Bayern M., even Juve...Thus, Napoli needs a brand new stadium, with a capacity of 55K at least, preferably 60K! And with the statue of the greatest - El Diego (and a whole stand named after him, of course).
Forza Napoli & greetings from Macedonia!

How do Napoli have problems getting permits? When they no doubt have a lot of friends in the underworld side of the city that could grease the wheels the same way they did in order to transfer Maradona in the first place all those years ago. Maybe it’s a problem with the ownership not wanting to spend money idk I’m an outsider to that city. I went there this season for the UCL group stages and was shocked at the state of dilapidation the stadium was in. Surely the cammoristi or whoever really runs the city could get behind the project that way they could financially start to rival the northern teams who’ve had great stadios for a long time.

@NMA 55 NIDHIN JOBI You don't know the full story of Maradona because you started watching football since 2015. He literally won the 1986 World Cup by himself scoring 5 goals and 5 assists, that's a total of 10 goal contributions !!! Again in 1990 WC, he went till final with Argentina, and played with injured ankle. Had he been 100% fit, he would have won the WC 1990 too, he was fouled a record 50 times in that WC, that was the only way to stop him.
What he had achieved in World Cup tournaments already sealed him the best player of his time. But what made him the "God of Football" or the "Greatest of all Time", is what he had achieved with Napoli............And I cannot explain here what he achieved with Napoli, its too long. You have to watch his documentary or read about it online, what he did for Napoli and how he transformed the Southern part of Italy. Bye bye kid. Grow up please.

For me Messi will only above Maradona if he can "single-handedly" without those players around him at Barca to lead the club like Napoli of El Diego era to stardom. Also lead and almost single-handedly took Argentina to 1986 World Cup Champions that without squad that full of overwhelming first eleven, only then Messi are the above El Diego.

Funny related story, Italy WC 1990
    Plan was:
    - Italy wins their group, stays in Rome until QF, goes to Naples to play SF.
    - Argentina wins their group, stays in Naples until QF, goes North to play SF.
Italy won their group, went according to plan, SF in Naples.
Argentina didn't win theirs, went North early to play Brazil, then Yugoslavia, and goes back to Naples for SF.
So Italy faced Argentina in Naples, the only possible match where they arguably were not the home team.

All in an era where they were competing against AC Milan which was the best team on the planet and Juventus who weren’t too far behind. Napoli won their third ever title and the first since he left only last season. Does anyone really think Messi or Ronaldo could do what he did?
