  • Is premium whiskey worth the high price tag? Here are 10 bottles (mostly bourbons) with a MSRP over $100 that I THINK are absolutely worth their high retail price tag. Am I right? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Most of your picks are unattainable for me. Are they worth msrp probably but in my area I will never see them. I personally don't look for anything allocated or hard to get in okay with the Knob creek Wild Turkey and other shelf steady bottles I can get. If you can get these great I hope you enjoy them. Enjoy!!!

Nothing wrong with knob creek or wild turkey! I tried to keep at least half the list bottles that are available online. But I know not every state can order online and shipping is a pain. Stay tuned, much more stuff coming with bottles that I think will be more up your alley! And if you have an idea for a video you want to see, let me know and I'll try and make it.

If I hadn't already been subscribed, the Holy Grail reference definitely would've made it happen! 😂

Very solid list. I have had many of those and agree they are worth the msrp price tag.

Been wanting to pull trigger on a calumet 15 or 16. Just grabbed the 8/15 small batch and it’s just ok. Not sure if it’s worth it to spend the extra $$. Would love to grab either the 10 yr rye or bourbon from michters. JM cigar is like $225 cheapest I have seen in GA

I’d go calumet 16 out of that bunch, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Unless you can find a Michter’s 10 at a reasonable price. 225 is probably a little high for JM cigar. I think they’ve been putting a lot of it out lately, if they’re in DC for retail, I would imagine prices in GA will catch up soon but who knows

    Nice vid.
But imo RR13 was great at $75 and fair at $99 but overpriced at $150.
Batch 1 was phenomenal but batch 2 & 3 were very good batch 4 & 5 are good but not worth over $99. Had better store picks of RR SiB.
Rather have Little Book Chapter 7 than RR13 batch 5
You nailed the KC18. A great bottle and definitely better than EC18

Agree that RR13 is borderline at 150, but I’ll still buy it for that price. Everything is expensive these days. Definitely better than a Woodford batch proof for the same price. 119 or 129 would have been an easier pill to swallow but Diageo is getting greedy. Thanks for watching!

Unfortunately I can’t afford to buy too many +$100 bottles right now so I have to be pretty selective. Bought Disco 11 and killed it so quick because I love it so much. Been really wanting to buy a second bottle but the price tag hurts.

I hear you man. That's one of the reasons I started this channel. Whiskey is an expensive hobby, trying to make it tax deductible 😆

    I personally liked 15 and 16 2nd.

I can definitely see how people prefer the 15, they're definitely more different than you'd expect.

Seems like you didn't talk a lot about *sourcing*. K Luke ... isn't that MGP? And who's juice is in Seelbach's? And what about Michter's Rye?

    • @averagejoeswhiskey
      @averagejoeswhiskey  Před 2 měsíci +1

Those 3 brands don't disclose where their whiskey is sourced from. K Luke sources from Indiana and Kentucky so presumably MGP is in there but no idea how much.
Not sure where Seelbachs sources from, it's a relatively unique mashbill 75/15/10, corn/rye/mb. I could speculate but may be wrong, if anyone knows I'd love to find out!
Michter's 10 year products I believe come from Brown Forman. According to Fred Minnick and others, they contract distill for Michter's. Although Michter's own distillate should soon be old enough to use in their 10 year products.
I'll talk more about sourcing in the future if it interests people. Thanks!

Not sure “Average Joe’s” drink $100+ whiskies. To me, the law of diminishing returns hits bourbon hard when you go past $85 USD. A special bottle for a special occasion, you bet. But I sure wouldn’t be lining my shelves with these high-dollar consumables.

    • @averagejoeswhiskey

Fair criticism. There are definitely a ton of bottles that retail under $100 that are better than pretty much everything on this list. Although many of those get marked way up on secondary. I absolutely agree 50-90 is the sweet spot for bourbons. But for those who do want a special bottle for a special occasion, I did some of the homework for you, or at least offered my opinion.
