I was worried about Calumet 14-16 becoming scarce after 16 got a bunch of glowing reviews when it dropped. Thankfully it didn't take long for the haters to start poo-pooing them again and not only are they still widely available, I recently grabbed 15 and 16 on sale for below msrp.
Like honestly call me a hater if you want, I bought a bottle thinking it was going to be gold because of the reviews. ...... And honestly I was incredibly disappointed, It's not bad whiskey Don't get me wrong, it's just not great either, I've tried both 14 and 16 I bought 14 myself because it was getting a little rare at the time and I got 16 as a Christmas gift, and both of them where just alright, definitely not worth MSRP or even close to it. Frankly they tasted like $50 bourbon, pretty good, but not spectacular, The asking price is just too much for what you're getting.
I've bought a couple Old Carter bourbons and they are very good. I recently bought an Old Carter rye and it is trash! It tastes like I have raw rye grain in my mouth with spicy water! I recently bought a Rare Hare 1953 and I'm saving it for the Christmas holiday with family down in Georgia.
Gents, just walked out of St. Mathew’s Kroger, there is a Yellowstone LE 2022 on the left when you walk in. Great post, always appreciate your reviews.
Nice picks. I was lucky enough to pick up 4 of those Yellowstones. All the other bottles not sold in my state except Old Carter which is allocated and never found the bourbon
Nice list. I agree with your takes. I’m In the Cincy area and have been looking for the Four Gate Kelvin Collaboration IV… I passed it up back in July and been kicking myself since.
Interesting list, though next time I’d really appreciate your take on what a reasonable value (dollar amount) you would put into a bottle. With ever increasing costs in whiskey, that information would be golden, salud!
@@bourbonkingdom yeah I feel ya, I’m fortunate I can find it where I am but things like Four Gate and Old Carter I’ve never even seen in real life, haha. Cheers guys, great video!
I'm with you regarding the Discovery Series. I'll grab them at Costco in Lexington when they hover at $100-110. I'm guessing Discovery 5 was the one that didn't work for you, right?
Just throwing another vote down for Lucky Seven 14yr Proprietor SiB’s. I will say though that the ones above 125 proof are miles and way better than the barrels below that proof point.
I had a Washington Sam Houston 15 and it was over oaked to the point of drain pour, unless a bitter tannin bomb is your thing. I've heard plenty of praise for it though so unfortunate that the Washington barrels suck

I got my first Old Carter, a Louisiana batch 2, and it is SPECTACULAR!

I lived in Maysville, Old Pogue will always be my favorite!
Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend for sure but that’s about the only somewhat findable bottle I can think of over $100 that’s worth the price every time.
Agree its a great bottle we didn't put it on the list because it is allocated.

What about Joseph Magnus & Cigar Blend? Because you are not readily available there?
For a somewhat obtainable +$100 bottle - for me it’s got to be Lucky 7 14yr single barrels
Iv been lookin for the Sam Houston 15

Yeah it was just to dickel forward for us anyways.
What batch is that Four Gate? I’ve always wanted to pick up a bottle or two but we don’t get much in FL.

I have never seen an Old Carter in the tri-state area i live.
How do you feel about Lucky Seven 14 yr The Proprietor? A local store has it for $160. I'm debating to buy or pass at that price.
Plz run & get it, kicking myself that i passed on it for $140 in MI. Msrp, never seen again, it’s worth the $160, my fav dram on summer trip to KY.

I've had 2 different batches for NY and same thing.
I've got the GA (open) and a MD batch, the GA is a bit tannic for me but has a nice and long finish.
old Carter on shelves? haven't seen them in the wild in Louisville area ever
Keep your eyes out, they are gettable a few times a year.
Which four gate and batch no is this?
That bottle is four gate kelvin collaboration 4.
What's with that tiny glass?
Didn’t want me to drink too much of the liquid😅
