One thing I liked about the interview is that she stated that they were her views and it doesn’t reflect the whole community. Every trans person does not think alike and to act like they all should is problematic itself.

So next time a white alt-right hurls abuse in the street at a PoC trans woman, calling her tranny and whatever, they are gunna say "oh its ok because Flame Monroe said its fine".

There's nothing wrong with stating your own opinion, however, Flame Monroe has a large following. It becomes problematic when someone with a large following states their own opinion about a subject and people view the subject only one way. You also have to remember that every trans-woman's experience is their own and one cannot simply say that all trans-women are the same. She mentioned that part briefly but still continued to speak referring to the whole trans community. I hope this helps anyone that is confused as to why some transgender people are upset.

We (from a social media perspective I.e black twitter) bully, drag, and beat into submission our known figures on a different level. And why would Caitlyn’s backlash hit home for me when I’m black? Flame is a TRANS COMEDIAN! THE SAD THING IS SHE IS ONE OF THE ONLY OPENLY TRANS COMEDIANS THAT HAS BEEN DOING IT FOR OVER 25 YEARS! MOST GAY PEOPLE NEVER EVEN KNEW OF HER BEFORE THE INTERVIEW. SMH

So you start off saying that you won't go in on a "fellow colleague" and then you do nothing but tear Flame down. You fight for your rights but what about Flames rights to have "his-her-their" opinion (which btw was preceded by the disclaimer that this was his-her-their opinion alone!)

It doesn’t. People’s use of it as ammunition does. It’s like when a black person does things that are problematic. It’s an individual thing, but other races will use it as ammunition of “how black people are.” This is why black peoples continue to get disparate treatment in so many spaces. Individual decisions can affect the communities to which they belong. It’s just a fact. The trans situation is the same. There’s a reason why flame is so palatable to people who are typically opposed to trans people (and women in particular); none of them are positive. She has a right to her opinion, but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a negative effect on how people see others who are grouped in a category with her. She is a major exception to the rule. She doesn’t speak for the community. But people will see it that way. That’s part of the problem

She was on the show because she’s a part of Tiffany Haddish’s special. Many of the other comedians have been on and they specifically told them to have her on. Aida specifically told Charlamange on his podcast that they needed to talk to Flame.
