      Me and my wife went on our honey moon to the Caribbean. And we did a boat trip, and we met a American couple also on there honey moon and we talked a bit, 15 minutes in our conversation, they found out we never visited the states and they invited us to stay at there place California and that we must visit the states etc. 2 days later we met them again in a restaurant and they didn't even recognized us...

      i cannot watch this w/the annoying computerized voice! plus, having come from Amerikkka and now living in Europe (Germany) for 4 yrs, i'm well aware of the differences! so i guess you've broken up w/Deana? your recent solo vids haven't been compelling, and feel like rebellion(s)/attack against your (former?) mate

      @@jdmagicmusic I don't understand why Phil did a video saying they're breaking up, then said it was a joke and they're moving to the States, then they did a bunch of videos together in Germany and The Netherlands. So I don't know what to believe.

    If someone tried to tell you imperial units are more logical than metric they were just f’ing with you. I was a chemistry major (but fix computers now) and found the switch to strictly metric as a science major to be a relief. Imperial makes zero sense!

      "Block" isn't an imperial unit; it's just a convention. Some neighborhoods have 16 blocks per mile, others more, others less. Some cities have a theoretical grid but not all the streets go through, so 2nd Street is followed by 5th Street. It's not clear whether that's three blocks or one block: different people use one or the other at different times.

    Something i found very confusing is the tipping system. Ppl work there buts off for a dollar a hour + tips. Me and my wife went to Vegas and ppl in the shops got a commission for every sale. So every shop you went into they where like hi Sir where you from blabla. As a dutchmen (we made "kijken, kijken niet kopen" famous) that annoy's me so i found out when i say i am from Amsterdam 95% leave me allone except the stoners the ask if have drugs on me. Yeah dude i flew over the trans Atlantic underwent 1000 security checks with a bag full of it... Until i was in a Levi store, i just picked up a pair of jeans from the rack, tried it on and went to the checkout. They asked who helped you for the Commission. So i said Tony, turns out Tony had a day off that day so everyone panicked where is Tony

      I love that in the SF bay area, where I live, servers make minimum wage+ which is currently somewhere around 17 an hour. Add jn tips and they make a decent wage. The lesser states enjoy relying on individually funded welfare to fund servers wages and it’s disgusting.

    • @sluggo206
      @sluggo206 Před rokem

      The tipping system is a racket so that restaurant employers can get away with paying $2/hour. But if a worker doesn't get enough tips to reach minimum wage ($7.25 nationally, higher in some states and cities), the employer has to pay the difference to bring it up to minimum. Some West Coast cities now have a $16 minimum wage, and the labor shortage is so severe that restaurants and supermarkets are paying $19 or more for their lowest-level jobs.

      You earn around $2.50 per hour if you’re a waitress/waiter or bartender BUT if you don’t make at least minimum wage per hour for the day, you’re going to be paid the minimum wage per hour, not the $2.50.
      You make a ton of money from working at a restaurant or bartending! I made so much money bartending throughout college & I would love to pick up a couple shifts again because the money was incredible.
      The only thing that bothers me about the tipping culture, is what happened during Covid & still occurs today… getting a coffee with your credit card & it will ask you how much for tip! I’m a generous tipper but there’s no way I’m tipping someone just to get my coffee!! I’ll tip if I have a huge order or something like that but that rare.

    My father’s cousin is German and the first time my friend and I visited her there we were there for three weeks. She was very helpful giving us all of the information about the differences between Europe and America. On our second night there her older friend took us out to dinner and was astounded that we did not eat everything on our plates. He didn’t say anything to us but she told us later. The four of us spent two weeks driving all over Europe which was a fantastic trip but every time we went to eat my friend and I would order one meal and split it so we could eat everything! The expectation to clean your plate was typical in America after the depression years but that has changed over time.

      @@potatophil8432 There are things that are typically not thrown into them like egg shells, chicken bones, some stringy fibrous vegetables, but most everything else can be pulverized. Essentially, the disposal is good for food scraps off of plates after eating, peelings from vegetables, rinds from citrus fruits, etc.

      Hey Phil, I'm in the southeast US and here you almost always have to have the AC or heater on just to combat the humidity. Same with ice in drinks. Cold drinks help keep you cooler. Those horribly hot days you have a few of in Germany -- that's our entire summer! Now some places like museums and office buildings keep the temperature unbearably cold. Also in the Southern US, we are taught from birth to be nice, friendly, and smile at everyone. We are taught to make people feel welcome and comfortable. It's considered quite rude not to do so. When I was with some European friends at a local restaurant where you have to go through a serving line, one of the servers asked about my necklace and who gave it to me. The type of necklace is significant in the Southern US, so lots of people have ones that are handed down from mothers or aunts or grandmothers, so I told her about mine. Afterward, my friends asked me if I knew the server, and when I said I didn't, they asked if that was typical for a stranger to strike up a conversation like that. Again,, in the South,, it is normal although not necessarily so in other parts of the States. They told me if someone in that same situation had done that where they're from they would have been taken to the mental institution. Lol! The American loudness is definitely a thing, and probably anyone from the state of Texas may be louder than others, but not sure why. One thing I've noticed about my European friends is the importance of being precisely on time, and for most Americans, unless they're punching a time clock for work, being 5 minutes late is pretty much being on time. Like you, I need a lot to drink with meals, so we really appreciate the constant refills and it's considered poor service if the server is not keeping your glass filled. And I think you're absolutely right about the service being excellent because of tips, although I really wish servers could get a decent base wage and then tips on top of their base pay. That's a big controversy here. Thanks for doing this! Always good to learn new stuff from you! Hey to Deanna!

      @@potatophil8432 Garbage disposals are only for soft things and liquidy things, like the remains of a sauce or vegetable scraps. Mine has three flat heads, not sharp prongs. Maybe older ones did, but I've heard that the idea of getting your hand stick in it or stabbed to pieces is only in the movies. Still, I don't put my hand in it, I use a butter knife or tongs to pull something like a bottle cap out.
