Hey trying to add some details. For example at about 14:54 the level goes down and then after „late 1800s“ (14:56) it goes significantly up again. At least an issue I face when watching it in the CZcams App on my WebOS TV (LG). This happens ~once every 50 seconds throughout the video and is somewhat irritating.

Can you make a video on how the US gov destroyed Osho's commune and arrested him without any warrant and prevented him from entering the US and even visiting ally countries?
Note: We've seen docs like Wild Wild Country, please don't focus on his secretary Sheela and things that gone wrong, many sources done this already. I'm referring to his experiment as he created different type of society where everybody was joyful and he dropped the use of "money" in the city he created. There were no crimes in that 5k population.
Another note: It's not a utopia, please do a thorough research watch as many videos as possible of him and his new experiment of expanding consciousness that caused huge concerns for many governments of the world.
Really interesting and it requires thorough researching, it's bigger that what you see in Wild Wild Country and other documentaries.

I’ve grown up around Oklahoma City, and I remember a teach from my middle school who was native, and he refused to carry $20 bills as a personal protest against Andrew Jackson, the government, and all their wrongdoings towards natives. I’ve always admired that spirit of solidarity with his community and ancestors.

Those last lines about how every single unique tribe and culture was (and still are) lumped into one category under "Native American" were super powerful. Got me thinking about what I can do to try and help preserve all of those independent histories. Great video.

Europeans somehow posses the ultimate sensitivity while also the ultimate insensitivity to others. They view every other ethnicity as caricatures.
They do the same to Black, Hispanic and White ppl too.
It really puts it into perspective when you consider the sheer size of North America over Europe, considering the many different European cultures and their differences yet somehow all the indigenous peoples of Canada, US and Mexico were somehow lumped together by colonialists.

Born and raised in OKC. When I was in elementary, the school system seemed to celebrate the history of the land run and would take the kids out on the playground during "Land Run Day" so they could claim a place to sit outside and have their lunch. Growing up you mostly just heard positive stuff regarding the land run like how the college football team is named after the people participating in it. Until watching this video I hadn't realized there were four distinct runs. Until a few years ago I wasn't even aware of the Tulsa riots. Thanks for the history lesson and teaching me something my public schooling should have long ago.

Videos like these do more to repair and bring awareness to native peoples existence than anything the government is doing. Public apologies and monetary payments mean nothing when a video like this can bring in depth knowledge to the masses.

If you're American and a non-native like me, remember at the very least that this land is some of the most beautiful parts of the natural world and that it is sacred. Not everywhere in the world has beautiful mountains, trees, lakes, rivers and animals etc. like we have here and that we even get to experience it is a privilege in itself. Respect your Native American brothers and sisters and consider helping out charities and reservations in need if you can.

I don’t see any arrogance in his comments. Native Americans are treated as a second class citizens without good support from federal governments. They are secluded in a piece of land, looked down by the most of population. They can not even state a comment without being criticized.
A land can’t be assigned value based on sheer beauty of it.. just like a land can’t be assigned value based on commodity alone. A land is not only what it can give us, but also about what we give back. The several pre-colonial populaces knew this intrinsically, and now you do too.

@@jacobs492 I've met some natives from Oklahoma who are so self hating, it's sad. One in particular didn't even want people to know they were native, they seemed almost ashamed. This one in particular was from the Cherokee tribe, but it seems like a thing for natives there. I always wondered if this was due to bigotry in Oklahoma

My great grandma is the oldest living choctaw woman, she celebrated her 102nd birthday earlier this year. She is incredibly sharp still, and has knowledge if there are questions you might have for someone who lived through much of this.

@@Alaryk111 sorta im choctaw and we have a tribal goverment with our own court system like we have a congress sorta in having tribal council for our 13 counties if i remember it correctly we have our own police force and healthcare system that is free for tribal members, .politically the choctaw nation is conservative and ironically very Christian considering how our ancestors were converting basically forced to via forced boarding schools. there is a group of choctaws who stayed and i think they have their own tribal government but from what i understand there was a lot of bad blood between our two groups for a long time bc they chose to stay like it took till 1990s for them to be recognized as choctaws by the choctaw nation of ok, like we even have elections for our tribal councilors and our chief but the last few elections for chief our current chief ran unopposed.

Yes, and so did the Confederacy. Congress didn't want them to separate either and with blocking that, as well as the earlier attempt to prevent the "state of Franklin" being carved out from Tennessee, Congress had a precedent. Possibly exception with WV, but that stayed loyal.

As I sit here studying my Mvskoke language to make sure our heritage is passed down to my posterity, I am wrought with emotions by the fact that you are sharing this story. The process of going through those old documents is filled with trauma and emotions. We all have had to do it at some point or another and the feeling is heavy. I am 1/16 Comanche, Okie born and raised. I just had this conversation with my kids. The settlers are celebrated in our history. We reinacted the land run in school every year. It was fun, but not something to be proud of. I appreciate you covering this. I am excited for my kiddos to watch this.

As a Cherokee Nation citizen living within Cherokee Territory (where it dips into Tulsa, Oklahoma), I've always been confused by how the land runs were and still are taught in public schools. As a kid, I remember the Trail of Tears was largely glazed over-which felt odd because some of my ancestors were forcibly relocated on that path and some maybe even died along the way. I walked a bit of it myself on a hike it and it felt quite eerie. Meanwhile, the University of Oklahoma's fight song is still "Boomer Sooner" - the Boomers being those non-natives who lobbied for the state to be opened for a land boom and the Sooners were those who illegally snuck in and claimed lands before the land runs would even begin. If my son, a card-carrying Cherokee Nation citizen, ever decides to attend OU, I would feel conflicted about him chanting such a tone-deaf anthem after their football team scores another touchdown.

As someone who have a bachelor in (American studies), those white people would do it again to you, if they have to start everything allover, without any regrets. they are still doing the same to us Palestinian, they keep grabbing lands, and when we, Palestinian defend ourselves they call us terrorists, they call us international anti semitic, although we are ourselves semitic. My mother was of Cherokee decent. Born in Wellston, (I will not say Oklahoma) she was adopted out to a white family who raised her as white. There was no paperwork to prove her linage, no corroboration, no history. My grandmother on my dad's side has a similar history, coming from the Choctaw, again no paper trail. in short, to give your story a "Thumbs Up" is such an understatement, that I do it thru tears.

We have a similar story here in New Zealand with the local Maori and the English settlers back in the 1800. They also signed treaties over land and rights but still broke out into a fight between the English army and many Maori tribes called the land wars.
I think it would be quite a interesting topic for you to cover on this channel as not many people talk about it these days.

I grew up right outside Tahlequah and my Cherokee heritage is celebrated on my dads' side. As an adult, I always wondered why I didn't grow up with more of the culture. I feel like a big part of my personal journey was the realization that it's because most of it is gone. There's less than half a million people on the largest native american roaster in existence. That's less than amount of people in the city next to the Cherokee's capital and they're scattered everywhere.
I live in Kansas oklahoma. I'm a white boy and I grew up with alot of Cherokee traditions. Chewy always had stomp dances and Kenwood always has hog frys, not saying that is the only traditions I participated in and still do to this day. But I would suggest going to some and talking to the old timers. There is not very many Indians left because of whites marrying Indians and watering down the blood line. I have a bunch of friends that are pretty close to full blood but most of them got with white women and now that blood line is cut in half.

@@tylerb4235 The Cherokee don't use blood percentage as a gauge of tribal membership. I'm Cherokee, as is my father and grandfather on the male side. My mother and both of my grandmothers on the female side. I'm on the dawes roll. Never in all of my experiences within the Cherokee nation have i heard that percentage of blood mattered. Either one/both of your parents were Cherokee, and are tribal members or they are not.

Born and raised in Marlow, Oklahoma but now I live in a suburb of OKC called Edmond. Excellent video. The first Americans museum reintroduced me to the history of our state and solidified just how horrifying everything has been and continues to be for native peoples. If you’re ever in OKC and found this content interesting in any way, make a point to go. It is both uplifting and haunting all at the same time.
There are two things that I believe any visitor to OKC should experience: the OKC National Memorial and the First Americans Museum.

I remember learning about "the greatness of manifest destiny and Americans' bravery in settling the unknown West" and the concept that there were people already there that we kicked out wasn't ever really part of the discussion. This was in elementary school, in high school we got more of the details, but it still wasn't really explicit that we kept breaking our promises over and over. It still feels weird that we were taught to be proud of first violently then politically stealing people's land and breaking treaties just because we wanted what they had.
We throw so much shade at Europe for imperialism and how they treated people but we tend to conveniently gloss over all of the stuff we did, or if we talk about it the slant is heavily in favor of the idea that Americans were just really ambitious and out-competed everyone else, which conveniently fits perfectly into the obsession with capitalism.
Fighting over land is human nature, every ethnicity and race is where they are due to conflicts and pushing out rival groups.
Modern technology just meant the process was sped up and was actually documented.

Don't call these people American. They were as European as they come. Due to the nationalism in Europe, the first colonizers - the white protestant from the UK and Northern Europe - started expanding the dimension of the only common denominator they had with other Europeans - whiteness. Thus they started expanding the definition of what white. First it was other protestants from Europe, then it was catholics from Germanic countries, then Catholics from the British isles, the catholics of the remaining parts of Europe, except Spain. Eventually, the Greeks were integrated into that group too. Due to the cold War, that process stopped for the better part of the 20th century, but after 1989 it came back into full force - we are currently integrating former Warsaw pact nations into our concept of whiteness. The last ethnicity are the Ukrainians.

I moved to OK years ago. But I didn't understand the true history of the state. Looking at your migration map, I had no idea that so many of the names I thought were street or town names represented actual native tribes. Too bad many states are trying to suppress history education by falsely calling it critical race theory. Keep up your good work so all is not lost.

@@Aria-cd6dq It was estimated to be 20 million in all of the America's in 1500, Europe had 78 million at that time. There are over 200 million people that are at least 50% Amerindian today, and three countries (Guatemala, Peru, and Bolivia) are majority Amerindian.

This story is also our story. One that is shared by so many indigenous cultures around the world that are occupied by another nation.
Unfortunately the dominant culture overrides everything else.
I shed tears watching this, but this is a digestible way for non- indigenous people to grasp what they are looking at. The pain, anger, frustration and the resulting helplessness of the situation... It fills me with 🤬 but I respect and appreciate the work you do.

Johnny, one thing that you touched on... @5:03 "No Man's Land", this "Panhandle" was initially termed the Neutral Strip, with a very interesting geo-political origin. It was created as a buffer area between territories to allow the railroad to pass to the West, but has an interesting micro history influenced by all of these elements showcased in this video. It may make for an interesting short story vid. Additionally, with the DiCaprio movie, "Killers of the Flower Moon", there may be some interesting deep dives or side stories related to this that may be very interesting. Thank you for all your work in this area. But alas, we are all left feeling like there is nothing we can do to remedy these histories.

My great great grandfather was a "Sooner". He claimed land just east of Norman, Oklahoma. The land is now part of Lake Thunderbird. This video helped me learn more about that time that I never learned in school. Thank you for the information.

Johnny, love the channel and especially this topic. There definitely should be more awareness about the Native Americans and what the real history is. One of the best songs by Dave Matthews is "Don't Drink the Water". When you see the acoustic version with Tim Reynolds and he gives the story behind how he came up with the idea for the song, you walk away with an even deeper appreciation for the song, and how the Native Americans were impacted by all of this! IDEA - it would be awesome to honor them if you were able to speak with them to get their history and how this all affected them!✌️

My sister's home is our great-grand mothers original allotment..All my siblings and I are fluent in our first language (Cherokee) I was 6yrs old learning English language. My Great -Great Grandpa was Oklahoma, Home guard during the Civil War..(Union).Actually, we are Keetoowah as referred to as Old Settlers..on my father side..who were here prior to the signing of Mr. Ridge or forced removal.. Old Settlers welcomed Ridge's group and later John Ross.

I was stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, a few years ago. That military installation is literally the definition of being built on a native burial ground. Lots of spooky shit happens there, but once I visited Geronimo's grave on memorial day- i was the only one out at the native gravesite that day paying my respects, once I got up to leave an Armadillo walked right up to me and chilled for a solid ten minutes. I'm sure it was nothing, but damn if the walls between worlds didn't feel awfully thin that day.

Is there a continuation to this video? While to me, it's very interesting, but it seems to go only so far, but then it ends. As a native Oklahoman and Cherokee Nation citizen, I try to follow this story into where it is today. There is information, but it is so localized (meaning Oklahoma only) that it is difficult to follow. Videos like this are very helpful but it would be good to continue the story. Could you do a video on the Osage murderers? It’s basically the history on what happened to this remaining Native territory in the north of Oklahoma.
There’s a movie coming out later this year about that called “Killers of the Flower Moon” they were filming in my small town of Raulston
I live right outside of pawhuska and saw them filming right outside my neighbors house on a old bridge they had his whole front yard fild with crew and people eating at lunch. tables.

From what I've been reading In the comments, it feels like depending on where someone lives in Oklahoma can wildly change what narratives you learn about, for instance in northeast Oklahoma (Cherokee Nation) a good portion of this video's information and true stories are taught. In addition the Tulsa massacre is taught to an extent (not mentioned in the video but is mentioned by commentors)
I’m amazed at the digging you did and how you tried to sum it all up all while revealing the truth. To this day, my heart is towards those who truly deserve to call this land theirs. Thank you for handling this subject sensitively and honestly. My entire life I’ve lived in this great state and see it as a privilege and hope to continue to propagate the true history and help find healing.

I just drove through eastern OK on I-40 and saw a billboard that said "Welcome to Sequoyah" As someone who lives close to New Echota, GA the Cherokee Nation Capitol, it was unique to see all the names I grew up seeing in Georgia in Sequoyah. Its a beautiful landscape and the people very welcoming.

I'm a member of the Ho-Chunk Nation of the Great Lakes midwest. (WI.) Same thing happened to us. We were exiled west of the Mississippi in the 1830s Jacksonian era. Allowed to return 50 years later. Given allotment of our own ancestral land that, as usual, got carved up and lost thru taxation. We never did get a reservation. I've studied our tribal historical background, but I'm a half-breed and I am not traditional. Though I was born into the tribe and lived the poverty, and the admirable perserverence, for my first 17 years, I try not not to overstate my status. I always feel I must defer to the elders and the traditionalists, as I was raised to do, and let them speak their own history firsthand. I did gain a lot from this concise and very accurate overview of the 19th Century Indian Territory land. It is very well done, but it would be even better with some tribal voices being heard along the way as well. Nonetheless, great job. It may seem daunting, but keep moving forward with it. You are doing very good work.
