You made the same mistake as many other youtubers: you built an audience on a topic and then you decided to branch out to something that your audience isnt interested in much. Ive seen it time and again happen to the best of channels since i started watching youtube almost 2 decades ago.
No one's interested in an American who's whining about how bad the US and west is 24/7 while the only reason he's living a decent life is having the privilege of being american.
This channel is not dead, it's just transforming. I found your channel when you were talking about software development, finding a job in the IT industry and stayed for what you said through the lines about motivation and discipline. Keep your head up! The channel will come alive, (in analytics I mean) more than it ever was before.
I found your channel a few days ago, I've been feeling really down lately, and hearing someone about their thoughts and their wants, and their life make me feel a sense of comfort, just want to let you know that you're doing great

Your no weed video has a million views. You did not kill your channel, you just need to find more relatable topics. Youve inspired countless people including my self. I've been watching your content for so long that you almost feel like a big brother to me. I can resonate from your stories because you seem genuine and share your downfalls and is extremely self critical. A personality like yours is not common in youtube anymore, especially when authenticity is so scarce. I think raw and authenticity is the next big thing and I think youre just ahead of the curve. You're doing great big bro !

I enjoy your channel and watch every video. I know what you are going through too because one of my friends was a popular youtuber and with the same amount of subscribers as you and I saw her struggle through the same. She also tried to be real with her audience instead of the persona she had created. It was hard for her to bring those two worlds together. Real fans will continue to enjoy the relationship they developed with you vicariously and follow your content. Your experience and journey has been a treasure for me to reflect on my own life and I know other youtube content creators have given you a shout out for being real! I feel like being a CZcamsr is like a a career in the music industry, not everything has to be a hit.

As for content - I personally was hooked by your coding journey videos, but even after that it was kind of interesting to see some just "life\life-choices" kind of videos, jiu-jitsu one, traveling, working abroad etc.
I think your content mattered to me, coz I remember your coding advice of- "just show up regularly" and it improved me a ton, even though it sounded obvious (i guess you were just the proper person to tell it in a certain way) . I really hear this line in my head constantly :D
In a broader perspective of the content, I kind of understand, that it is very difficult to be "relevant" on daily basis. There are so much specialized content creators, and there is only so much time ppl have to watch videos.
This is why it is probably just a right thing to do, what you personally can and will endure for a long time.
There is no sense in faking "bursts of enthusiasm" over a topic, that is not genuinely interesting to you.
I think your channel is too valuable to "just die", but you are experiencing what "variety" streamers experience, when they move further away from a topic that formed some of their audience.
That is just the life. I don`t think it is a tragedy, and you are right, in sense, that it is important to be satisfied with your legacy, rather than chase views.

I just found this channel and its been helping me a lot in plenty of different ways. I dont think the channels dead more people just need to stumble across the channel. The topics you go over are so relatable that it makes me want to keep coming back to your videos. Great advice on life and your experiences as well.

You can always start a new channel for specific typeof videos.
I once watched a video where CZcamsr who then was getting 100k views made a new channel because his old one was 7 years old and video were from different categories and inconsistent.
Imo it's better to start new where algorithm doesn't have a opinion yet rather than changing it.
This is just a cycle on youtube, don't bring yourself down because of it, remember that your videos helped countless thousands of people in someway or another, and they will still be there for the one's that will need it in future. times change, yt recommendations change and people change, but the struggles will still be there.

I say this not to be negative but I can honestly tell you’ve been not wanting to really make videos for a while. It really shows in the videos. I still watch but not much. Got married too early, already divorced, trapped in a state and career I'm not happy with. Trying to figure out what exactly the rest of my life is supposed to be as well. Your video about learning to code being the best money decision was the first video I clicked on and subscribed to. Afterwards I havent watched many videos but stayed subscribed because we have a lot of the same interests and are likable. Dont need perfect videos. Keep making them.

You should make content about your unique experiences. That's what you used to do with coding. Now I want to know how you work abroad, how much you make, how much you spend, and how you plan and budget for the next country. Also your end goal? Are you trying to settle down abroad or eventually come back to the us?
Man, I've already cleared this point in the very start of my journey. I don't even care about the views or the money associated by creating content. This is why I enjoy creating content, sharing information and using my channel as my video journal. Like you, I already have a good primary career in Trading (Gladly I don't even sell any trading courses or anything and it also allows me to do other things without caring about the money, gives me a peace of mind). My advice would be to just do what you are doing and not think about the money aspect of it.
I personally CAME to this channel for personal development vids (not coding) and STAYED for the digital nomad journey! Keep on rocking :)
You and I lead a very similar life. Smoking and high since I was 15 . Got into software development in my 30s. Have made youtube channels but am never sure what I should do because I have so many different interests. I found you now with your quitting weed videos but looked back at the past. It's really interesting... You say you are moving toward this format and maybe I'm biased because of all the above but I think this is a good path for your channel.

Hell yeah bro, burn it all down!!! 39-year-old recovering slacker here...I'll always pop in on a Dorian video every now and then, just to see what you're up to. Also, coding gets boring after a while (changing just for the sake of change, the web probably could have just stayed on the LAMP stack indefinitely and everything would have been fine lol. I would love to see a study quantifying the wasted hours and lost productivity re-inventing the wheel)...can't blame you for wanting to move on.
Simple idea to revamp your channel is simple focus on showing real project codes for beginners talk about psychology how to stay calm when u at work while receiving ticket to work on not to panic how important daily read about work related things for example build website which viewers can use as template show about lazy loading and image compression and divide like in few videos then highlight git hub usage and how to structure it. Like little tutorials You are Great and I’m here to support you if you disagree on it it’s okay. I like you because you share your personal stuff ❤

Anyway people are still active and i listen to your video (not all of them) while i drive to work and it did help me keeping up my energy level since i am at a point in life that i want to change but i gotta wait for it for a few months. So some of your videos has been very interesting to listen to in the car about your journey in asia. Keep it up man, and being yourself with content just do it and if you lose subs then so be it, there are people like me who watch/listen to your video fully in 1 time speed and really taking it in. And we will remember your honesty and original content.

I think we do look to you for motivation in persuing tech but your persona and your topics on perserverance why we all will always support your channel. Hi. I've followed the journey for years. Here's why I think the content is failing: I joined for coding content, but I don't have an interesting in learning anymore. (and I don't think you care about teaching anyway. Which is fine) however now the uploads aren't consistent or follow any routine. (some people do weekly uploads) The content is also kinda depressing or just you venting about a life we'd love to have. (wealth+family+freedom to travel is a huge luxury). I don't mind the venting. It's your channel. Do whatever but I'm sure most people prefer other types of content. If I didn't care I would have left by now but I'm definitely not rushing to watch the content after work. It's usually the same vibe lately
I actually got more interested in your channel after you started talking about moving overseas and pursuing the digital nomad life. I too went to a coding boot camp, got a full time job but I was not happy for various reasons. I’m an immigrant in the US and my core family is back in my native country which is in the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Not being able to take enough time off to visit them and the constant layoffs in the tech sector caused me to develop depression and anxiety.
I simply want to travel, visit my family and work from anywhere.
Perhaps you should lean into the digital nomad lifestyle content more because a lot of people want to know how to make money online and travel.
Do your thing! Make the content YOU want. If people wanna watch something else, fuck em. How you feel about you and your life trumps what anyone else thinks or wants from you. You just earned a sub!!q

While I prefer, and still consume, the older software self-path content for inspiration, there's nothing wrong with recognizing that you're human and you need to grow and change. I do think making two channels would be a good idea though, that way you don't put off viewers on either spectrum: could make one for tech related stuff and the other for life/mental health advice.
I had a dual niche channel i.e. motorcycles and faith based insights, I struggled with not splitting into a second channel however after 20 months in (2 days ago) I finally broke at made a second channel, not because I lost subscribers or got low views but because youtube was pushing motorcycle content to people who were interested in my faith based insights and that annoyed me a bit. I removed 10 videos and placed them on my new channel, after 2 days I've got 0 views on all videos, I'm still not sure if I did the right thing.

But I think you don't have to feel guilty of being "not genuine" when you apply some principles on making a video of higher quality. At least that's what I picked up on what you mentioned about the quality, rule of thirds or whatever of the video. Hehe background's indeed nice!

From my perspective - I don’t follow your channel because of coding topics as my journey is all around C++ and Unreal Engine, so, any technology or language you mentioned in your previous videos - I am not familiar with. :)
But I was inspired by your talks about being sober, cold baths (as I am a fan of Wim Hof), and self-dev activities.
Moreover, your life style is something I really curious about. I would like to know pros and cons of such actually from the human perspective not only CZcamsr perspective if that makes sense. :)

Boot dot Dev, Freecodecamp, your local library, etc. What do you want to do in code will answer the question better, but if you don't know then just follow any beginner course to completion for starters.

I started a recovery/positive activities channel on New Year's Eve and have 282 subs and 90 videos/shorts I think I have more views on my shorts, but hardly anyone comments. I don't think I have an audience, but the traffic is just random people and not subscribers because that is what the metrics say. My goal is just to hit 500. I feel like quitting sometimes.
Getting older, I think what matters most is trying (in life). What do you think about that? When I watch your videos I see someone who is earnest / honest and trying. I respect it and can fuck with it

I remember I was once at an interview that was going wrong, cause they started asking nasty questions, and then I started asking my nasty questions like: is this a new position, and what happened to your previous programmers, and how come you can't find someone to employ if you are such a great company. Of course, this didn't bring me anywhere, but I remember what the manager replied: she said, we are growing now and we are experiencing growing pains and people who could not bear these left.
So there you go man, think of it this way, your channel is just "growing" and "maturing" :)

Its a coding / Life channel, it seems to work ok. Coding seems to be the bread and butter. I dont mind it personally
I think all "learn to code" channels are suffering since the tech sector has been in a freefall. Bootcamp success rates are now near zero and people with years of experience are taking half a year or more to find new jobs paying less than before. Right now people don't want to hear someone who broke in during better times complain about how working 40 hours a week from home making six figures actually sucks. Working a corporate job isn't fun, but it rings a little hollow when the white collar middle class has been absolutely gutted in just the past couple years.
