Jason ... Brother ! Dual postings in one day. You been busy. 59 El Camino's have always been my fav but that one is ruff. Your right starting on mechanical stuff first but I'm not sure that frame is savable. You need to get the rust off to see how bad it is. You really need to unbolt the body lift it some and roll the frame out once you get a rear axle in it. As far as a rear axle you should be able to find a 12 bolt in the proper width at a boneyard for less then rebuilding that 10 bolt one. Then you can powder blast that frame outside and give it a coat of Eastwood Encapsulator and paint. You learned a valuable lesson, "Don't order sh*t till you see exactly what you need. Budgets are time dependant. It's better to do it right then to do it fast. Unless it's just a Flipper Car which I don't think it is. Oh, and I wouldn't get that flame too close to the stuff the barber put in your beard and hair either ! 🔥🥵🔥 Man you chose an expensive project. Think "Go Fund Me" I'll be watching man. Good Luck & Cheers ! 🍺🤛😎👍

Hey Thanks Man! Definitely been busy...lol. I think I found another center section! I really want to keep this one but it might be a flipper. Depends on where I am financially in a few months. God Bless and Cheers! 🍻 ✌🏻

When you pulled the first axle out you knew there was gonna be carnage. Cannot see that centre section being revived. Good luck finding either an entire rear end, if not the rusted components. Gonna be a cool project. Look forward to seeing more. Be safe and stay well.

My suggestion to you to de-rust that axle so you can take it apart is use automatic tranny fluid and acetone and a 50/50 blend mix spray it down really good that is what I use and it works great to eat through rust

Jason 23:11 you might be able to use a tap and dye set to rethread the bolt shaft on the shock mount to the next size down and use a smaller nut. once you get it out as its not on the shock side as it just holds it in place.
Or you just MiG weld it when you put it back on to the bracket.

Soak the 3rd member and the rear ended housing in vinegar mixed with salt. Fill or submerge parts in this stuff and let it sit for a week or so. White vinegar is not expensive and works wonders

Thought comes to me contact Mr. Chevrolet - yea good challenge, leaving the housing in the car the axels would make it a roller until you source a good 3rd member - will be praying for part to come your way. Remember to keep your gearing ratio the same as you 3 speed standard. God Speed with getting this up and running - look forward to your reveals on this revival.

    • @jimschafer9196
      @jimschafer9196 Před 3 měsíci +1

@@CountryBoyGasGarage if you have the vin you can decode through that and the rear may have had a tag on it that has codes or the actual gearing.
Count the ring gear teeth and the pinion great divide of the number will reveal the gearing too.

Jason you might be able to find another rear axel of a different model car from the same manufacture that might fit but you might have to modafy the drive shaft to fit it good luck.

Looks like this one didn’t have any oil in it and then it got submerged underwater. There is a guy in Iowa that deals with these cars and has a channel here; maybe he can be a good contact and source.

that single torque arm, tearing lose is a common failure, The 65 Chev was the same way. owned two,
the car being under water, it is a safe bet the diff has water in it. In fact, if the car ever pulled a boat,
it's a sure bet the diff has water in it. by the sounds of it,
who ever drove it just abused it as long as it would take it.
    Check the frame for cracks.
I would be looking for a up grade for the rear end. if that diff is froze up.
I would focused on the engine, nix that rear end for now, pull the heads, looking it over top and bottom.
before putting that engine in that car. The car sat around for years, so it wont make a difference if it sits a little longer.
    Do you know the LORD.
    Blessings to you and yours.
