  • The Turtle go on a maiden voyage in our new camper. We had a good trip and were very pleased with it. We did learn a few things as we test out most of the features on the new camper. Along the way we enjoyed a great 2 days camping in Kentucky on the first week of Camping being open in the state.

    We're probably going to get the Flagstaff version of this trailer, since that's what our local dealer sells. Same trailer, different paint/stickers. I see you're pulling it with a V6 Honda Ridgeline. Makes me feel good about us pulling ours with a V6 Toyota Highlander.

    Hi, Turtle. Sorry I don't know your name to address you properly. I know this video is a little old but have recently started watching all your "stuff". I'm a long time RV'er so I hope I don't offend you when I say this particular video made me laugh because it reminded me of all the silly mistakes I made with my first RV adventure many, many years ago. I think the main thing that draws me to your channel is you and your wife's "normal" way of living and dealing with things in general, and, I think we're about the same age too. I live near Atlanta and made a trip to Kentucky a few years back to a state park near Bowling Green (Yeah, I'm a Corvette fan). Can't remember the park name but it was beautiful. Anyway, just wanted to take time out to let you know I like your videos. They are both educational and entertaining. Thanks and keep 'em coming.

    Great video! Thanks for posting it. Did your Ridgeline feel good towing it? What kind of research did you do before towing? I bought a GeoPro 19FDS in July. I am still waiting. Trying to learn all I can before it arrives.

      No control problems what so ever while using a weight distribution hitch and sway bar combo. I always stay under 65 mph and taking it easy going up large grades. It does okay, I did have a transmission overheat on a 4 hour stretch of highway doing around 64 mph but my transmission was approaching the recommended 30000mile mark recommended for trans fluid change if you are working it hard. After fluid change I have had no other problems. the 19 FDS is slightly heaver than my 19FD so be careful not to load up the front and or the water tank on long hauls.

    Nice video sir. I have a 2022 4Runner TRD Off Road with a 5K towing limit and searching for a travel trailer, interested in the Geo Pro 19FD and No Bo 19.2, both have dry weight of around 3,300. Was wondering if you have any updated experience, regrets, and recommendations to share specifically to towing. Any equipment recommendations such as WDH, brake controller, transmission cooler, and spring air bags? Thank you in advance.

    • @Turtle3863
      @Turtle3863  Před rokem

      As far as my Ridgeline, it tows pretty good. I did have the transmission overheat one time and it has a transmission cooler, but it could be bigger. I highly recommend a WD hitch. I also make sure not to overload the truck or camper keeping my water tank with no more than 6 gallons while traveling.

    How did that trailer tow with the Ridgeline? Any problems seeing around the trailer with those mirrors? Did it carry the weight ok?

    • @Turtle3863
      @Turtle3863  Před 4 lety

      The driver side mirror allows you to see down the entire length of the camper. The passenger side you can see most of that side. I do have a rear view camera which helps on seeing cars approach from behind. Overall while using a WDH setup (which I highly recommend), the ride is nice. Power to go up long grades does lack but as long as you are ok with that, not bad at towing at all. Brake also perform well and make you feel that everything is in control. Best advice is if you can afford to have a large beefy truck at home to tow, by all means go with it. but if you are like me and need your truck for everyday driving well then, the Ridgeline will do the job.

      @Turtle3863  Před 4 lety +5

      We love the 19FD model but are used to a King bed at home, I would suggest you upgrade the mattress to a memory foam from the get go. It keeps you from moving into your partners space.

    Looks like a lot of fun. Coming from an Aframe with no tanks, I have no idea how hard it is to clean them. In this video, you talked a little bit about that. Can you do another video and actually show the outlets, and talk about how you drain them WITHOUT exploding all over yourself. haha. Also, isn't their a place to attach your hose to flush them after you drain them. How did that work?

    • @Turtle3863

      @@johnberger3338 As you saw where he hooked up the water line on the rear of the RV, the panel there has a black tank flush port. I suggest a second hose dedicated to just that purpose to make sure you don't get your water system contaminated.

    • @Turtle3863
      @Turtle3863  Před 4 lety

      John Berger I will try to do a video on our next camping trip on how to do it, really not too hard, there is a flush out hose attachment but I did not have the right hookup to use it.

    • @y.t.5880
      @y.t.5880 Před 3 lety +4

      I have the same trailer. I drain the black water. Then run the flush out with the black water drain open (otherwise you could have it go wrong way into trailer). Then close black water drain and open the grey water drain. That clears out all the stuff you don’t want to leave in your hose.

      Patty Barbour Just dont go to fast! I put mine in D4 drive when going up and down hills. It helps the transition. I only had 1 issue and it was bc of me going toooo fast in the traffic, transmission gave me a “hot” light. I pulled over for 15 mins. No issues since and ive drove 34 hrs from Georgia to Montana for work. Keep it under 70 when possible! Good luck :)
