FYI about the McD's chicken being injected with a salt water solution: This is called a brine, and it is used at any place that does chicken. We even do it at home. It's usually kosher salt, sugar and different herbs and spices. It actually infuses itself into the chicken and ensures that every bite is tasty and juicy. Nothing weird or backhanded about that.

I went into a Starbucks every day looking for their fruit and cheese box, they’d always run out by the time I got there for lunch. I was really nice and went for a sandwich instead, tipped well, and built a rapport with my barista. It only took 3 days of that before they started hoarding one in the back with a sticky note with my name on it so I’d have one when I came in 🥲 I was so sad when I graduated and had to say goodbye to them

I walked in, resume and application in hand and spoke with an employee who told me they were hiring. Years ago I went thru the BS with Best Buy over a window air conditioner that came with a manufacturer's warranty. They tried to sell me the extended warranty and I declined. When the a/c broke 3 months later, they tried to tell me there was nothing they can do because I didn't purchase the extended warranty. Tip: Look on the manufacturer's warranty papers and find who manufactured the item, then get in touch with them. They will get back to Best Buy and force them to honor it.

The McDonald's one kind of frustrated me as a former McDonald's worker. The McDonald's I worked at was EXTREMELY strict about their hygiene policies. I'm talking hairnets, washing hands after everything you did, gloves for the cooks that they changed every hour, and not being allowed behind the counter without a mask on. It could just be a difference in management, but my McDonald's was very strict. Our ice cream machine also had an automatic cleaning function where you had to turn it off for like an hour to clean itself, so that's why we couldn't make ice cream a lot of the time. But he's talking like every McDonald's is like the one he worked at, which obviously isn't true. The one I worked at was CLEAN.

The thing that makes me furious is that I'm old enough to remember when cable TV first came out--you could buy cable so you didn't have to watch commercials. Then as the years wore on, they started adding commercials. Now you're getting robbed to watch the commercials you didn't want to watch in the first place.

    • @JillLalande
      @JillLalande Před 2 lety +8

Yes! In the late 70’s when ‘pay TV’ came out in Canada (A&E and such) the big push was that there were no commercials and it was specialty TV. Over time the commercials crept in and the channels are no longer the high quality content, name specific, entertainment that it was back then. I remember i had a friend who always had the latest and greatest thing and I was jealous of their Pay TV subscription when we only had the on-the-dial 8 channels (plus two French channels)

Former Five Guys employee here...Our milkshake machines were "supposed to be" cleaned once a week--no one liked doing it. The only one's that really changed it were: the General Manager, the assistant General Manager, and the shift lead employee at the end of the night (if everyone was caught up with their closing duties). When visits by the higher ups were announced, cleaning became aggressive and people still slacked--especially if there was only one employee doing it because everyone took advantage of them. During Covid--same sh!t different day. On top of that, you'd get in trouble with your manager when asked why you stayed so long (on the clock or not)--even after explaining why. At one point, i told them "check the cameras, you'll see everything i did that the rest of the employees didn't do because they were in a rush to go home".

as someone who worked at wendy's... the chili thing isn't exactly true. One, we don't freeze our meat. Ever. we DO use overcooked or unsold meat that's considered "old" but it's HOURS old, not days. It sits in a warming drawer, and then is used in the chili because it holds up better being slow cooked into chili than fresh meat would. There's nothing wrong with the meat, and it isn't left out to sit and grow bacteria. All the other chili ingredients come fresh, or in cans and are mixed daily. Also as a side note, unlike mcdonald's disastrous ice cream machine maintenance, wendy's frosty machines are "broken down" and cleaned with santizier every single night - and new mix is added once or twice a day. it is NEVER old or unclean. When I worked there, the unsold frosty mix was put into the largest cups we had available, and sent home with the workers - because otherwise it'd be wasted.

I work in the meat department at a local grocery store and I can confidently say that we NEVER add anything to our cuts. Whether it's beef, pork, or anything we process (cut, grind, etc.) we DO NOT add any chemicals to our meats. ANY additive would be (in USA) required to be disclosed in an ingredients sticker. It is a $10,000 minimum fine for not including this information on packaging.

Supermarkets that cut their own meat don't do this. Big box stores do. It's done since the 90s, but has been FDA approved for meat since at least 2004 specifically as a 3 gas mix- 0.4% carbon dioxide 30% carbon monoxide and 69.6% nitrogen. Doesn't have to be labeled because it isn't added into the meat. Some chips etc are also bagged with nitrogen to keep the freshness longer. The problem with it on meat is it can keep meat looking fresh for literally 2 weeks. (This has been verified by news exposes and can be tested at home if you have a CO2 monitor.

Regarding the Disney stage names, that's actually quite common in a phone customer service/"call center" setting. It'll vary from company to company (some companies use nicknames, some assign fake names, some give employees the option of a fake name, some use real first names but have a no last name policy, etc) but it's not that common anymore to see a center that requires employees to use first and last real names, because there's been multiple cases where irate callers threatened or actually committed a mass shooting, or stalked/murdered specific employees.

OMG....I worked for Hollister in high school & some of college. She's absolutely right! First of all...I was hired cause of my name (Meghan Whalen). They did a group interview. The assistant manager (who was black & yes this is important later) hosted the interview. She wrote a list of names of all the people she liked. The store manager (who wasn't even there for the interview) took the list & called the people with "certain names" on the list. I was one of those names. She left a voicemail for me to come in because I had gotten the job. I was excited for my first day as a Hollister model. I got there & both the store manager & assistant manager was there. The store manager asked what was I doing there, so I told her my name. She was like, "OOOOOOH! _YOU'RE_ Meghan!" The assistant manager was like, "Yes! Who did you think she was?" Then she looked at me, smiled & winked. I knew right then, my name got me that job!🤷🏾‍♀️ During the 1st year & a half that I was there, I was a size 5/6 with long hair & wore my contacts instead of glasses. My husband & I got pregnant almost a year after we graduated from high school (don't judge me)! & due to complications, I had to resign while I was pregnant. After I had my son, I was ready to go back to work. But at this point, I was in a size 11/12 & was wearing my glasses. They pulled me in the office my 2nd day back & said, "GOOD NEWS! WE WANT TO GIVE YOU A PROMOTION AS THE IMPACT MANAGER. YOU WILL NOW BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE STOCK ROOM. YOU WON'T BE ON THE FLOOR ANYMORE!" I wasn't stupid! I knew why they did it, but I took the money & the hours.....& worked there up until the "Meghan has gotten fat" jokes were a bit too much! As if I didn't just give birth to a whole human months ago! Even though I went down to 7/8.....I was still "too fat" to be on the floor! Hollister will most definitely mess with your confidence, if you let them. Lucky for me, my man & I loved the extra weight I had put on, so they couldn't completely break me. Once I left, I went to a size 9/10 & loved every single pound!😊😝

When I worked there we NEVER stored the chilli meat for the next day or in a bag. Chilli meat was always fresh off the grill. Morning chilli was always best because instead of using whatever had been cooking for too long we would grill fresh patties to get started for the day. Also our chilli was started fresh EVERY morning. We never served day old chilli because we would stop making it about an hour before close and just gave extra to the last people who ordered it for the day so we wouldn't have to throw very much out, if any at all. And yeah, it's true, they NEVER freeze the burger beef. Always fresh.

The back stock people were called “impacters” because they made an “impact” on store operations (eyeroll - this was the spiel managers gave to not seem like a*holes for discriminating based on looks). The people in the front were called “floor models”. If you were a model and were assigned to the front door, you had to greet absolutely everyone who came in and couldn’t leave that front room (I hated working the front because time would stand still and my shift felt never ending) Also, I witnessed a girl get fired on the spot once because she was wearing green nail polish and you were only supposed to wear pink or red on your toes, and French tips on your fingernails. You also HAD to wear the clothes and follow a look book that changed each season. You couldn’t ever wear black because back then Abercrombie or Hollister didn’t use black on their design palette (navy was the darkest color)

As a body piercer that follows APP guidelines, we always advise against Claire’s and Piercing Pagoda. You need a beveled needle to correctly pierce ears and other body parts.. the guns just cause blunt force trauma. This is why many people end up with irritation, infection, and heavier scarring when they go to places in the mall like Claire’s and piercing pagoda.
There is a whole science behind “needle drift” that we are taught as apprentices. Meaning that when you pierce ears, you have to get the angle down to a T, and then shift the angle again to compensate for the force being places against the tissue to ensure it comes out straight.
We are taught to check for veins to make sure your piercing heals correctly.
We are taught to check your ears anatomy to make sure you can get a piercing. Not everyone can safely get a lobe piercing, and not everyone can get a helix/cartilage piercing.. this goes for every piercing.
The guns are made from plastic, meaning they are porous. It is impossible to clean them, meaning that you are leaving your open wound exposed to blood born pathogens from everyone else who was pierced before you.
The only way to correctly sanitize something is with heat, steam, and pressure from an autoclave. The piercing guns would melt inside. Alcohol will never sanitize the way you need to be safe.
The metals used at Claire’s are horrendous for healing. You need something surgical/implant grade.
They also tell you to turn and twist your jewelry. All this does is reopen your wound over and over, making irritation easier and healing times longer.
They tell you to clean earrings with a cotton ball.. wrong again because the fibers can get stuck and trap bacteria.
Healing is harder with hoops as well. Again, more rotation = longer healing times.
You also cannot change lobe piercings for 2-4 months. Helix/cartilage piercings take 6-12 months to heal. You should not change or twist the jewelry before then. Claires and piercing pagoda tell you to keep in jewelry for only two weeks.
It’s like they want you to get infected.
Lastly, CONSENT IS HUGE!!! Credible body piercers would never pierce a baby. That baby cannot consent to having its body modified. I would only pierce children 8 and above, and only if they could tell me with their own mouth that this is what they wanted.
Do your research and go to a piercing shop. If your piercer doesn’t follow APP guidelines, run. Always make sure piercing equipment and tools have been autoclaved, and all needles are 1 use only. Check to make sure they throw away your needle in a biohazard bin after piercing too. You can always ask to watch them set up and ask whether their items have been autoclaved. If they are legit, they will be happy to show you and prove they are doing their best to keep the space sanitized and safe for you!

I had my ears pierced the first time when I was 17, back in 1978 (it had become very fashionable). I was afraid of them using a needle thanks to a classmate giving me a scare story about needles and corks and bleeding for ages, but she was very quick and it was over within 3-4 minutes. I don't know it was just done back then, but the earrings they did the piercing with had a semi-pointed end and a really tight locking mechanism so you couldn't pull them out by accident. We were told to clean morning and night with white spirit (not Dettol) as the spirit alcohol cleaned and dried at the same time. We were also told to give the earrings a little twist morning and night to prevent the hole/wound closing up round the studs. They didn't advocate hoops at the time as they said you could accidentally introduce dirt or germs into the holes. Also, if they got snagged by a brush or comb it could be excruciatingly painful. I was very lucky and didn't have a single infection, and by the second month I was wearing gold plated fashion earrings and just sleeping in the surgical steel ones I was pierced with.
When we had my daughter's ears pierced at Claire's (about 18 years ago), because she was nervous (and autistic) two members of staff pierced her ears, each one going 'one, two, three' and doing it at the same time. I was holding one of her hands and her grandma (my mum) was holding the other. She did say yes, incidentally - I would never have forced it on her! I can't remember whether they gave us solution to clean her ears with, but she didn't get infected either. Unfortunately, her high school didn't want the girls wearing anything more obtrusive than tiny studs or really small hoops and she ended up not wearing any. A few years ago she asked me to see if she still had piercings (she did), but I think they're completely closed up now. It was best to let that happen as she developed really bad eczema behind her ears (not related, just something she had badly all over).

I left most of this on another comment but my ear (lobes) I got done when I was super young I believe maybe 4ish. My actual doctor did them (this is also now 30+ yrs ago) I only remember bits and pieces but what I do remember was being totally fine and excited the whole process, mom always told me I had a big cheesy goofy smile and barely moved a muscle the whole time. And I never had any major issues. My tongue, when I was old enough to do that. I passed out, since I hadn't even eaten a meal in idk how long (said my sugar was way too low) they had to do it a bit crooked because of where the vein in my tongue is. And they said to rinse with Listerine after eating and whatever but to NOT change it BEFORE at the very least 2 weeks .. well once the swelling went down the super extra long bar they used to accommodate the swelling, I was now constantly biting and yanking it wicked hard, so I gave up and changed it. Thought I had everything good and clean, but of course it took another almost 2 weeks to fully heal. But, It did heal and I've had it since. Actually the one that's in now has been in for about 8 or more yrs... Can't get it out. Had a C-section, spent 4 hrs trying to get the damn thing out, neither myself or my kids father could get it I told them if it HAD to be out they'd have to cut it. Also on Claires: *THEY USE PIERCING GUNS*. Those things cannot go into an autoclave - so they are never fully sterilized. The piercing mechanism on the gun literally punches a hole thru the ear, creating scar tissue and is more painful. You're getting pierced with a blunt, dirty object, by someone who does not know what theyre doing.
It may not be as 'fun', but you are *much* better off going to a piercing studio, getting pierced by a trained technician, in a sterile environment, with safe tools, with a needle that will hurt a fraction of the amount, and wont be nearly as traumatizing to your small child or baby.

I have lumps in my ears that were pierced with a gun. I got the upper cartilage pierced with a gun & had to remove it, as even after 8 years it was still painful & had a massive lump (keloid) it was infected due to the damage the gun had caused during the piercing. Always go to a professional piercer who uses needles, as the needle cuts a small hole out which is so much better. Plus healing is easier & less chance of an infection as needles can be sterilised in an autoclave. I’ve seen guns that are covered in pus & blood still on the inside as they cannot clean it properly. I hope they ban piercing guns soon

The Wendy's Chili one isn't a secret, they basically tell you how it's made if you ask. Wendy's cooks burgers in larger quantities so they always have them ready and the unused ones are soaked in water overnight as a way to release the fat and oil from the patties that was locked in. Afterwards they chop it/rinse it and cook it in a pre-made chili mix. This basically means they reduce waste and actually, in a smart move, prevent the chili from becoming too oily. There is honestly nothing wrong with it, burger patties once cooked can be refrigerated for three to four days.

Just a tip on brand names. I once took an intro course on marketing. Right there in their very first course, they openly spilled the beans on what branding is. Is is a highly calculated algorithm to rip customers off. I am genuinely not kidding.
In the text book for that class, they laid out how tonnes of research has proven how companies can build loyalty by selling a high quality product along with certain marketing campaigns. Then there are algorithms for figuring out how loyal customers become to their brand. Once the loyalty reaches a certain point, they instantly reverse course and start gutting the quality of their products because they have mathematical formulas that show how far loyal customers will allow the quality to drop by until they turn on the brand.
They even have preplanned methods of fixing a brand that goes too far and gets damaged to repair the loyalty. They come out with another specific type of campaign along with again higher quality products to draw past loyal customers back. From that point it becomes very much wash, rince, repeat.
Why do you think cable companies and phone companies treat loyal customers like crap and give all the deals to new ones. No, it's not just something you think is happening, it literally what they teach people to do in college.
Treat loyal customers like crap because they will out up with it. If they don't put up with it and leave, offer them a deal to come back. It seems dumb, but it is highly intentional. People make a living off of helping companies for this to customers.

Once a week for ice cream machines is actually pretty standard for places that do more than exclusively ice cream. When I worked at race Trac we did a deep clean once a week and the product never even came close to going bad before then. The deep clean would be draining all the product, running hot water through until it ran clear when draining, running the special sanitizing solution through, then taking out all the parts, washing and rinsing them then letting them sit in sanitizer solution before being left to air dry. Since this process takes about four hours (on about 8-12 machines), we couldn't do it every single day. Putting the machines back together takes another couple hours so we would have a lot of disgruntled guests when they would come in during the cleaning times (which is every Sunday night-Monday morning btw). Every shift the carburators, star caps, and inserts were taken out to be washed, rinsed and sanitized, before being put back into the machine. The foam would also be scraped from the top to prevent the product freezing up or causing other system issues. But as for deep clean it really is not necessary more than once a week.

Back in one's earlier years, piercing was done at home by yourself or a friend.
You numbed the earlobe with ice, put the cut side of a potato against the back of the lobe. Then using a sterilized sewing needle and thread dipped in alcohol, you pushed it through, tied a knot, and you were done. Just move the thread back and forth with alcohol until it heals. The potato is to keep tearing the skin on the back and you push the needle into the potato and use the potato to draw the thread through.
40+ years later, that is the only piercing that never closed. The ones done professionally by people who actually knew how to pierce have had to be re-pierced several times.

People had the nerve to even return expensive DIRTY underwear and they would still get $$ back for them 🤦🏻‍♀️ When Nordstrom used to give back actual cash for returns customers could treat the store as their own personal bank. The fact that the company allowed this to happen even up until a few years ago is actually mind blowing! Now they won’t give cash back for items without receipts or tags anymore but now they’ll give store credit lol so it’s still ridiculous. Keep in mind when you buy something expensive, example: over $1k dress for that wedding you need to attend, then return it a few weeks later that poor sales person loses their commission (which they live off of cause most departments ONLY get commission not hourly) it’s crazy that returns (losing your commission) affects the sales people for up to a year from when that item was first purchased! As someone who's worked at MCDs for many years I can say that making food without gloves is 100% better than using gloves. The primary reason is gloves create a psychological feeling of being clean.
I've been to many restaurants and seen people scratch their heads or touch raw meat and then go and make the food all with the same gloves.
By using your bare hands you are less likely to feel you are "sanitized" just because of gloves. We did use gloves when handling raw food however, and this was to ensure that clean safe hands didnt completely rely on someone being 100% perfect at hand washing.
Overall, gloves = false sense of security and cleanliness at cheap restaurants

I mean, it's similar to covid and wearing masks. Masks are very helpful, but I would constantly see people just touching their masks constantly. Not at the edges; at the center when all your breath germs are.
Or coughing into something. I see a lot of older people especially cough directly into their hand or fist, then touch something, because they were taught to cover their cough, but didn't realize that their germs were still being spread everywhere even if it wasn't airborne.
Sometimes people take the safety of feeling like they're doing something right and forget the logic behind it and so don't realize they're making things wrong again.

I've got a soul-crushing secret to share from my time working healthcare jobs. While it makes sense cameras are not allowed in hospital rooms or nursing care facilities in patient rooms, they honestly should be to keep tabs on how staff are treating patients. We see video taken by personal cellphone and shared sometimes on social media of a staff mistreating a patient, or footage of how staff speak to one another about patients ... and we get all shocked. But I'm here to tell you it's way more common than when it makes the news . And if you, as a staff, whistle-blow, all you do is make enemies with fellow staff and supervisors and your complaint gets nowhere. And at really poor quality facilities, staff will set you up for failure as retaliation even at the expense of a patient's health and safety.

Ex Starbucks barista here, I earned my black apron so here's some tips ... Espresso shots only last TEN seconds before they become 'Dead Shots' in which case they become bitter and taste burnt. Some customers prefer Dead Shots and request it. The last part of the shots pulling from the machine is the sweetest part of the shot called the creme, kinda foamy. It gives the coffee its SWEET flavor. You can ask for a shot to be affogato in which case the espresso machine will pour more of that sweet creme foam on top. Still only lasts ten seconds though. To save your shots they must be immediately 'shocked' in which case the shots must be poured into hot liquid or over ice to save the shots. Also, pastry pairing with coffee is real, and the only way to get the full flavor of the coffee with the right pastry is to make your coffee from a French Press. This allows all the oils from the beans, which contains all the flavor, to come out. Which is also why the lighter roasted the bean is, the more caffeine it has because it contains more of the oils from the beans. You won't taste the difference in coffee flavors from a drip coffee! Happy sipping all!

Only weird thing though, I think I've only ever been told the ice cream machine was broken like twice!

My mom was a manager at a McDonald's for years and she said the same thing about the broke ice cream machines and needing to get the parts from the company/ only the company can work on them

@@NoudlePipW This! I live in Canada, and rarely have I ever had them say the machine was broken. I wondered if the contract thing is just in the US or not. Apparently it is in the UK too.

@@lokicooper4690 I would think it's the same contract everywhere, and especially Ireland and the UK would have the same deal.
I think I just got dealt a lucky hand haha (or unlucky, if you think about my waistbands as a teen!)
