The story about Beethoven’s “Für Elise” reminded me of this story:
According to legend, Mozart wrote the Queen of the Night aria for a singer that he could not stand, intentionally trying to get her to fail. And what I’ve heard is that she stood up to the challenge and she sang the entire aria from start to finish, which I’m sure really pissed Mozart off.
Just goes to show that even the greatest composers in music history had their petty moments.

When I turned 18 I took a gap year before college cuz my dad decided he was done parenting & made me take custody of my younger half siblings and I was trying to track down their moms. So the rest of my family thought this was a great time to make me a free babysitter and would drop their kids off outside our house and drive off. No asking beforehand or anything. So I went to the store and bought as much candy, icing, brownie mix etc that i could get my hands on and about 15 minutes before i knew their parents were coming to get them after work i shoved as sugar down their throats. We'd be in the store and they'd ask for a $1 slide whistle? Hell yea sweetie put it in the buggy. One of them is lactose intolerant but only gets really horrible smelling wet farts from it so I would let him eat oreos and milk right before his mom would come get him.

Im so petty I had my neighbors dog taken away by an animal rescue facility.
Story: My neighbor rescued a dog after a storm and the dog was a little wild (he destroyed her plants) so she decided to chain him onto my fence under a patio table set that was exactly next to my bedroom. The fence and my bedroom were beside each other. The dog during the rainy season would stay all night howling and wimpering because he was cold, got wet or was generally scared. So I couldn't sleep well for a whole week because of her dog. When I approached my neighbor and talked to her about it she said she wasn't going to move her dog because she couldn't hear him and because she was a great owner and I was calling her a neglectful owner for bringing it up to her attention. Since that night again I got no sleep I decided to call my landlord, whose daughter works in a rescue center for animals. I explained to her the situation she called her daughter. The police escorted my landlords daughter and the dog out of my neighbors property. I got peace. She did other antics and the petty war began until I finished college there. The dog got adopted by my landlord and lives inside with air conditioning.

Probably my most petty exchange of petty acts: caught my ex live in bf cheating in my bed with a tramp I hated. Kicked him out. He took a bunch of my jewelry and any photos he was in and cut the ones with me out and left me half of those. I withdrew all my money from our bank account, opened a new one, and put a lock on the account for ATM withdrawals. Ex bf came in the house early, found me in a sweater and underwear, one guy in boxers, and one in a towel while we cooked breakfast. He stood there staring at us. We stared at him. I was on an NYC-Florida bus trip. The bus was an hour late picking us up, but it was delayed another hour by a group of Asian dudes over seating arrangements. Their seats were all assigned individually next to some black guys, who were also traveling together, but like the Asian guys, they weren't sitting next to each other. So the Asian dudes bitched and moaned about how they wanted to sit together, for the bus driver to fix it, then finally the black guys changed their seats so the Asians can sit together. My seat was in the very back next to the bathroom. This plays a role in the petty.
We hit a rest area in Delaware for food, since the first official stop is in North Carolina. I buy a lot of cheese products to munch on. This also plays a role in the petty.
The next morning, the bus had just crossed over the state line from Georgia into Florida, when one of the Asian dudes goes to the bathroom. He was only in there for about a minute, and when he opened the door to come out - for my fellow Monty Python fans - I farted in his general direction. A vicious, silent-but-deadly cheese fart. Because the black guys saw the Asian coming from the bathroom, they thought the Asian took a dump, and proceed to berate him on how he didn't wipe his ass right. I buried my face into the back of the seat in front of me, in tears from stifling my laughter.

Once someone really was a bunghole to me and wouldn't let it go so I fought him with my brains.
As you know, putting sugar in someone's fuel tank is very destructive and will ruin a car engine. That goes a bit too far for me, and it is criminal, so instead, I bought some sugar, and a funnel. I opened his gas tank and put the funnel in, leaving it open and in there of course. I then poured sugar on the ground underneath in a small pile as if it was spillover and left the empty bag under the back of his car. I knew this would be noticed because it was on the driver's side, so when he came out he immediately freaked, had the car towed and the fuel drained, and a mechanic to go through it.
Turns out it was all clean and in good shape.. Not a thing wrong with the car. ;)

Had a close friend end his relationship by texting a cut and paste Wikipedia definition to his soon to be Ex. She read it out loud, and they had a discussion over whether or not that’s really what she was looking for. The reality is that she was superficial as all hell, literally was dating him because of his income, and surprisingly upfront about it. I didn’t see the definition, nor did the rest of us at the table with them, only heard her explanation and him clarifying that was her stance.
At the end of the conversation he had paid the bill (which was pretty awesome since we had a large group), literally thanked her for “her service”, and left. Which seemed weird. Then he texted where he cut the definition from… To all of us. It was prostitution. She had spent 15 minutes affirming she was, in fact, a prostitute. It didn’t help this entire conversation was at a family reunion with HER family, and she had just explained with her father sitting next to them that his daughter was a whore. Next level.

The “fact” about Beethoven is cute but totally false. In fact, there is no concrete evidence who “Für Elise” is dedicated to. Therese Malfatti is one of the proposed candidates. She was a student and a friend of Beethoven who he proposed to when she was 16 or 17 (she did turn him down). In any case, it would have been “Für Therese”, not Elise (side not: Beethoven did write a sonata called “Für Therese”, but it was dedicated to the Countess von Brunswick). More likely candidate is Elisabeth Röckel (who was indeed referred to as “Elise”). However, as noted earlier, it has never been established who the sonata is dedicated to.

I was taking an online business communications class at a small college that required a group project. Keep in mind, I was a non-traditional student in my late 30s. The other 3 members of my "team" were all young and obviously thought their time was more important than mine, so they elected me as "team leader", making it my responsibility to organize, write up, and turn in every part of the report. But every time I was supposed to turn in something before midnight, they'd always wait until after 8pm, leaving me scrambling to write up that section's final summary. They complained to the professor when I complained about this, going so far as to insinuate that I was racist against them because I was white! That wasn't it at all; I had 3 small children, one of whom was disabled, and I was barely getting any sleep. So I decided I had had enough. I dropped the class the day a major assignment was due, and told the instructor I was too stressed out to continue. I didn't bother letting any of my "team" know I had dropped the class. I was always friendly and open, and expected civil treatment, but all those women did was complain about how many emails I was sending when I wanted to actually COMMUNICATE in the communications class. I hope the irony was not lost on the instructor.

It was decided since we could study to music easily, we put Boston "More Than a Feeling" on her stereo, turned the sound up to 10, put our earplugs in, and opened our door. But finally one day I got a feeling like I should answer. It was her kid's dentist office calling to confirm their appointment. I canceled for them. Didn't get anymore phone calls after that lol.

Seeing Charlotte in that bucket hat brought tears to my eyes. In that moment, with her red hair coming out of the hat, she reminded me of one of my best friends. Some people called her Gilly because she used to wear those hats all the time. (Gilligan's island reference. Gilligan wore a bucket hat).
She died a few months after graduation and seeing Charlotte looking so much like her was like a knife in the heart.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's good to remember your dear friend and happy times, and in time you will heal enough that those reminders will be bittersweet, instead of painful.
I love it now when I hear an old song my mom used to sing, but soon after she died those songs made me cry.
Years later, I heard these songs in my son's Fallout game, and it brought back a flood of memories that I tell him about his beloved grandmother who died when he was eight years old. It keeps her memory alive for us.

When I lived at my last apartment complex the downstairs neighbors had RAGING, LOUD dance parties until 3am EVERY Saturday. WELL I said "okay now it's on" I let my son RUN up and down the hallways whenever he wanted, jump on the beds AND... THE BEST ONE? They had complained about my plants. When I watered them the run-off would fall down on their things so I put saucers down to catch said water until they started to have those parties... so it would be raining down on them. is it my fault that the ONLY time I could water my plants was during those VERY EARLY parties? When they happened to be sitting right under my balcony?

These two kids behind me were calling me names. Telling me to go. Well I jumped in the water and just swam off. Well later on, in line for a other ride with my friend Katie, the kids see me and start laughing at me for not being able to cross the Lilly pads. Don't know why I said it but I said, I'm sorry I cerebral palsey and it makes it hard for me to move. The two kids parents, who had no issue with them making fun of and laughing at a younger smaller kid, immediately started whiping the shit out of their kids. It was early 90s so hitting your kid in public wasn't looked down on yet. I set there and watched their parents whip their butts for a good 5 minutes, screaming at them. Then I went down the big water slide and enjoyed my day.

In silent auctions, the clipboards and papers should have been collected at times end. So on both ends, the officiates of the school failed in making sure that there was no cheating going on. Also, when placing in silent auctions, you have to put the time down alongside your name for validation's sake. So if she finished one second before the kid, the kid wouldn't be able to put her name under. This comes from my own experience while participating at silent auctions.

It was that relationship that taught me the best pettiness of all was to give people like that absolutely zero reaction or ammunition, just to behave very calmly and be extremely reasonable and bland (regardless of the fact you might be raging on the inside). She and the girl (not her daughter but said she was) living with her stomped and jumped on their floor (our ceiling) at 3 in the morning (every night) making everything fall off of our walls. I left her a box of chocolates and card for Valentine's Day. The card told her to find her own man because no one in the neighborhood wanted her. I had a friend write the card and sign it "A Secret Admirer". When that didn't work to settle her down I started tying up Barbie dolls and putting them in the lobby (only our 2 apartments used this lobby). As soon as she went by them I'd take them out so they'd be gone when she went by again. I did this for two weeks and then she moved.
