00:00 Introduction
01:22 Godzilla
04:04 Godzilla V. Mothra
07:08 King Ghidora
08:48 Shin Godzilla - Komedie
Am glad Shin Godzilla was among the picks, that one rules!
Shin is easily the best Godzilla movie. All the earlier ones are campy kids stuff IMHO , and the US made ones simply do not count.
Shin Godzilla is a based choice tbh.
Frankly, I think this was the weirdest possible choice of the ones presented, but I don't hate it. Honestly, I think there's a reason to love almost any Godzilla movie.

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974) was my first Godzilla movie. It's my Defacto favorite, but I've got a soft spot for the 1st one.
Yeah that a one’s good, it’s got the sub zero cannon which was epic
Until the night before the shoot I was struggling to whether to pick “vs Mechagodzilla,” “Hedora,” “Biolante,” or “vs King Ghidorah.” I ended up choosing KG because Mothra was picked and I wanted to get 90s Godzilla into the convo. Also, y’know… mecha King Ghidora.
@@TwoMinutesToLateNight it would be really hard to choose. I can't wait for the next round! This show is so good!
I was surprised at how good the sound design of the original Godzilla roar was for a film from that era.
I just saw the new Godzilla: Minus One film. It is incredible and probably one of the best movies I have seen this year.
Nice huh, how it gives Hollywood a run for its money and shows how it’s done. Hollywood should seriously take notes and get their act together.
For me Minus One is up there with the other “serious” Godzilla movies Shin and the original.
… but if you want to get wild check out Final Wars for something modern, and Monster Zero for something classic.
I am a huge fan of the camp in Final Wars.
Minus One changed my life lol
Final Wars was the ultimate tribute to the Showa Era and served as a 50th birthday party in which most of his friends attended.
Minus One may well be, objectively, the best of them all. It should be up for Best Foreign Film at the Oscars, fr.
@@ericanderson7346 hard agree on Minus One being objectively the best. I can’t wait to see it again in Dolby. The feel was unreal with the stomping.
I feel tempted to recomend Patrick to watch Brandon Tenold's "Top 10 must watch Godzilla films" because its idea is to give sort of a distilled sample of what the franchise can offer (if you want to see bonkers sci-fi watch this one, if you want to see good monster fights watch this one, if you want something serious and mature watch this one, if you want to see something more esoteric watch this one, etc.)... but ultimately, Patrick should watch all the movies blind and only after that move to the top tens, fan discourse, essays, etc. for more context and or to survey general opinions and contrast them with his own
First! Go see the new Godzilla
Second this. Sooooo good!
It’s a masterpiece
Well, now Jordan's Godzilla Corner needs to be a series for YT Shorts
Loved the Godzilla corner and the pick. Love the series, learning about movies I thought I already knew.
Godzilla vs King Ghidorah was the only movie I was surprised by being included. Not that it's a bad film, but it's definitely one of the more "out-there" movies.
I agree. Not even in my top 3 from that era, and that was only 7 movies.
I applaud that Blue Oyster Cult reference.
Dude, I've never actually seen what Gwarsineo Hall, actually looked like until now. It would be so hard to put grease paint on all that beard.
That’s why I shave it for the show
@@TwoMinutesToLateNight How does King Diamond, do it?
@@TwoMinutesToLateNight I'm a dork do I had to look into it and seems he does shave a lot but not always. There do seem to be so examples of him still having the chops and mustache. I'm a dork!
I'm amazed that Toho hasn't shut this down yet with a flurry of copyright strikes
I haven't seen all of the Godzilla movies ever, but it's so hard to pick just 4 to be the best. Glad Mothra vs Godzilla was up there though, it's iconic.
I haven't seen every ゴジラ film, but they are celebrating 70 years of that franchise so I don't feel super bad about it I guess? There's a LOT to cover.
シン・ゴジラ「shin gojira」's director Hideaki Anno also animated the "god warrior" in Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaä before Gainax and Evangelion ever existed, so to say he has had some experience with radioactive giant monsters in cinema, would be an understatement. This is even parodied in the fantastic animated series Shirobako (which is an anime, about making anime, with a lot of in jokes and references to actual animators and studios, very thinly veiled).
I won't spoil ゴジラ -1.0 マイナスワン「gojira mainasu wan」(Godzilla Minus One) for those who have not yet seen it, but to quote someone else in the early screening IMAX viewing I enjoyed a couple of nights ago:
"Shin Godzilla was good. Shin Ultraman was good. That? Was AMAZING!" (FWIW, Hideaki Anno also worked on the script of Shin Ultraman).
So much better than I expected, and I had high expectations. The tension was gripping. Great performances. You could have taken Godzilla out of the film entirely and still be left with a compelling drama about a post war society and survivor’s guilt.
Holy Smokes what have you people done?!?!?!? LOLOLOL Godzilla vs King Ghidorah is certainly unforgettable haha...All pretty solid options, and I like where you all landed on your reasoning! If you really wanna watch the "Essentials"... I'd recommend: Showa Era:1,3-5 ; Heisei: MG2 & Destroyah ; Millenium: GMK ; Reiwa: Shin.... and the New Minus One Movie is absolutely incredible! Not that all of the other movies don't have merit, they do, and there's plenty of fun to be had... but recommending 30+ movies is a bit much LOL.. my list is under 10!! #LongLiveTheKing
Really, what is a costume if not a full body puppet?
But seriously, _Godzilla vs King Gidorah_ was the first Godzilla film I watched as a child, its a great pick because it has a good balance between insanity and seriousness
I felt Shin Godzilla was like the og Gojira in that it was commentary on Fukushima…. Just thought it should be mentioned.
Goin to see Minus One todayyyy
is Danielle's favorite Godzilla vs Mothra from '92, or Mothra vs Godzilla from '64? footage & movie description sounds like Mothra vs Godzilla '64, which is a very SOLID choice!
I just learned-around a week ago-that Godzilla and Gamera are like, Captain America and Superman. I always thought that Gamera was like, Godzilla's only kaiju ally, not a competing company's equivalent. Totally blew my mind!
What's even more surprising is they've never been on the same screen even though Godzilla is only like 10 years older.
@@frenchfri5106 I saw somewhere when I was looking it up that there was something in the 70s where they were but it wasn't canon or maybe wasn't even where they normally appeared, like they were both on battle of the network stars or something, but I can't remember where I saw so I can't really find it again
Gamera did influence the direction of Godzilla films heavily. Toho saw the success Gamera had in making films for kids, so they took Godzilla in a similar direction for several films.
I’ve seen most of the old Godzillas….Zilla vs. King Kong from the 70’s was a wild ride. But Godzilla 1985 was my introduction and by far the best. The new ones have awesome effects and are so fun to watch
I ride for 1985 Godzilla for sure. Underrated.
King Kong vs Godzilla was the 3rd in the franchise, from 1962. It was done as a satire of Japanese commercialism at the time, although most of the scenes which demonstrate it were cut from the international release. Kind of sucks that because of distribution rights, you can’t buy the Japanese version in America except on a bootleg.
Monster zero is up there for me. Same with the Japanese destroy all monsters. And gigan is one of the best Godzilla villains.
Solid.
GvsGigan gets a lot of flak, but it’s one of my top 5 from the Showa Era.
Godzilla vs King Ghidora is so nostalgic. Im almost as big a Ghidora fan as a Godzilla fan.
Great list!
Great series, always looking forward to more
New episode today!
@@cracked Awesome! Thank you for the heads up
When did you guys record this? The actors strike has been over for like a month, and writers even earlier than that.
During the strike.
As a fan of Gojira. Still, one of the first things I think of when it's mentioned is two things: 1st: how dumb it was that the character Daito (i think) was used a Gundam, a SMALL ONE instead of an Evangelion unit (yeah they don't own the license but still) to fight MechaGodzilla, instead of "It's a me" American History Xing him.
2nd: thatvmoment that Godzilla is fighting the turtle Kaiju and does the thinker pose because nothing is working in the fight
I have been thinking that at the end of the first season, I will take a list of all the movies chosen, and try to find them to watch them myself. Speaking personally, I would have been *utterly* devastated if Shin Godzilla ended up on that list. I sat on the edge of my seat like, "Please don't pick Shin, please don't pick Shin," and watched the whole way through. That's just me, though. :D
I would watch the entire unedited versions of these as well, just fyi
would you....listen to them? no reason, just wondering
@@cracked Oh hell yeah
You like puppets you say.... have you heard the good word of our Eldritch horror that is Wambo?
Final Wars is my guilty pleasure. Super cheesy BUT so many fights lol.
And Zilla gets sent to the shadow realm 😂
@@frenchfri5106 that was the best part! 💀
He just kicks the shit out of everyone!
What you're saying is that I need to rewatch Godzilla movies?
God damn right
It's about that time brother
I might be the only person alive who enjoys Godzillas Revenge
I see you, brother
You're not. Like I get why people don't like it but it's kind of a touching portrait of dealing harsh economic realities through the lens of childhood.
I think Superman recently got reckt by Godzilla, but, im confident, on even ground, an Eva Unit could take Godzilla.
But thank you for reminding me that version exists.
Just saw Minus One. Definitely would have been my pick, lol
I miss when cracked hired folks who had taste
Anyone know a good way to see every Godzilla movie? I kinda want to do a marathon now
Almost all of the Showa era is on Max and Pluto TV has a Godzilla channel
@@Johnny0lovely69 you a real one, thanks
Go see it!
I think giant monsters all out attack is the best because it has the most kaijus.
Most monsters would be either Destroy All Monsters or Final Wars.
My extremely hot take is that Godzilla was B-Movie schlock(still entertaining) until an actually good film came out in '98.
Then again in 2014. THEN Godzilla started getting good across the board.
Hot, as in a steaming pile of shit, just like Ferris Bueller’s iguana. 2014 was pretty good. Original film and Minus One are masterpieces.
@@ericanderson7346 Minus one came out post-2014. I didn't say it wasn't good.
1954 is far from schlock. It's a thoughtful dark and sobering movie.
I'll give you most of the rest of them though. Godzilla Vs. Biollante is SUPER interesting if you look past the Sci-Fi weirdness and that just elevates it above schlock I think. Godzilla's Revenge (All Monsters Attack) is surprisingly grounded and somewhat touching as long as you pretend it's not a Godzilla movie and meet it on its after school special esque level. Oh and Godzilla Vs. Hedorah elevates itself above schlock very effectively with some really bold and occasionally bizarre aesthetic choices it's a FASCINATING film.
There are stand outs here and there like any franchise, and a lot of it is indeed schlock but I mean with 30+ entries it would be shocking if that weren't the case.
Godzilla vs Bambi
The lack of GMK love is kinda disturbing.
Shin Godzilla is NOT full CGI!
Monsters Vs. Aliens did it first, trust me. Seth Rogen is older than all the movies.
Isn’t Godzilla Vs King Ghidorah quite a pro Japanese Empire, hence pretty pro-fascist movie though?
Yeah kinda. It's one of my favorites and the antagonists are people from the future who want to eliminate Godzilla from the timeline because Japan's struggles against the monster lead to them becoming an unstoppable superpower. Though tbh I don't think that leans toward fascism in any way except by association. Not trying to absolve the movie of that association. There is a logical connection between those ideas and imperialism and fascism but it seems to me like a very minor aspect of the film.
