- It's a great time to be a Godzilla fan. There's a ton of new content. A new Godzilla vs. Kong is on the way, Apple TV’s Monarch is surprisingly good, and Godzilla: Minus One is the best film of the year. Seriously i can't praise that film enough. It took the Godzilla formula and added a great story that's full of emotion, all on a smaller budget than you'd believe. So, if you're still able to see it, definitely do so and support great films. But if you already saw it and you want more, then i got a great list of films for you. I’ve made a list of the best Godzilla movies for you to check out, and believe me, there are plenty to choose from. In total, there are 37 Godzilla flicks. This list consists of the films i feel are the closest to Godzilla Minus One.

I think the Monsterverse movies will appeal to more people but there’s just something about the Japanese ones-even when they’re bad-that’s missing from the American ones. They’re fun monster movies but the Toho ones are the real deal
It makes a difference that Japan is polytheist, so G-zilla can be a god. For Judeo-Christian Hollywood, G can only be a monster.
Thanks for making this! I just watched minus one yesterday and it’s incredible
For me I’m 50/50 with my taste in liking both the serious and fun films in the Godzilla franchise. And depending on the film those sentiments aren’t necessarily exclusive from each other.
Thanks so much... exactly what I needed!! Godzilla Minus One was my first ever Godzilla movie, I had never even been remotely interested in seeing one before, but after all the glowing reviews, of course I rushed out to see it at soon as it came out here (only last week) in the best Dolby cinema I could!! I LOVED it!!!! So moving, so gripping, and surprisingly deep ... I cried!!! Twice!!! You can imagine that immediately I wondered which one I should see next! I found Godzilla 1985 for free on CZcams, and despite how bad it is I surprisingly kinda enjoyed it!!! Here in France I have heard only bad reviews for Monarch too, but now I absolutely wanna see that as well!! Thanks again!!!
What are you talking about? The reviews for Monarch are pretty good in France: 3,4/5 Presse & 3,3/5 Spectateurs on AlloCiné. If you want to see Monarch in story order, watch Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla 2014 first. Oh and whatever yo do absolutely watch the original 1954 film.
I always prefer Japanese godzilla movies over American once
It would be awesome to get your rundown of the original films. I been wanting to watch those for a long time inspired even more now after watching Minus One what a fantastic movie this is!
Excellent list Bushido Blues my favorite Godzilla movie is The Return of Godzilla from 1984.
Thanks Chris! Yes Godzilla 1984 is excellent
@@bushidoblues9302 You’re welcome. And I’m glad you agree with me wholeheartedly The Return of Godzilla is a excellent movie.
1954,1985, 2000, shin. I love the WB but would not dare compare them to minus one.
I grew up with the Heisei movies .Biolante ,Mothra and vs King Kigdhorah were shown in brazilian tv in the 90's and as kid I was a tokusatsu fan (Kamen Rider Black/RX,Juspion,Jiraiya,Changeman,Flashman were huge here )loved it .
Minus one is the 2nd best Godzilla.Sightly better than the excellent Shin Godzilla but not as great as the 1954 original.
The original was darker and more tragic. It was more a disaster movie with great human drama than a monster flick.
I hate the characters in monarch crazy how minus 1 is only 2 hours and the characters there are so much better
So true! I really like the characters in Minus one
Fr
not the Raymond Burr version for the original!!! The Japanese version is better. I like both but the new one is the Bomb so to speak!
I grew up with the American version, but yeah you're right!
Nice pun!!!😆
Godzilla minus one was amazing
1:25 Godzilla vs. Destoroyah
2:45 Godzilla vs. Kong
5:10 Godzilla: King of the Monsters
7:17 Godzilla 1985
8:39 GMK
11:39 Shin Godzilla
13:55 Godzilla 1954
My list of godzilla movies for beginners
1954 (obviously)
Gmk
Godzilla against Mechagodzilla
And its sequel tokyo sos
Godzilla final wars
Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 1974
The return of Godzilla 1984 or Godzilla vs Biollante, and then just start watching every heisei movie after those 2. For me the heisei era of godzilla is the best Godzilla era, with the best lore, monster designs, good continuity, and messaging. Just whatch all the heisei movies! Every single one.
I love GODZILLA (1984) 🇯🇵
GODZILLA TIER LIST
Huh you actually have made a list dude very cool although one from every era not bad but thanks for helping new G fans out there extend their palet
put the list below so we can copy and paste it.
Simple: every single one
With, didnt include Godzilla’s final reboot? IMO the best one. Godzilla 2014!!
Like you said though, vs destoroyah is my favorite lol but 2014’s reboot is my favorite “part one” Godzilla movie.
From the trailers for Godzilla x Kong Hidden Kingdom it looks like the US version is trying to go more for the campy fun Showa era films.
Yeah the first Godzilla vs Kong was definitely like that. Do you like the showa era?
@@bushidoblues9302 Yeah, I grew up with those films on TV as a kid, for some reason nobody put out the rest of the Hiesei Era films after 1985. So it wasn't until 2000 that there was another Godzilla film in theaters.
@jtilton5 same exact expirience for me. Do you know why the Hiesei films were skipped over?
@@bushidoblues9302 Not really, my best guess would be because 85 didn't do too well at the box office, and was more of a rental movie, that and with the darker, and more gory tone of the films, maybe they were afraid of upsetting "Patents Groups"
I agree with him:
Gōjira
Shin Gōjira
Godzilla Minus One
GMK
Godzilla 85
Destroyah is just fun
In hollywood its not just money going to stars. UNIONS are a big part plus California is regulated and taxed more than most place and prices of everything is more in California, especially Southwest Californian coastwhich is where Hollywood is.
Good point!
For me the human stories is GvK really killed the movie for me
Look up the Lucky Dragon No. 5 incident. Only one crew member died in the months following the incident others were sick and had health issues. The issue wasn’t so much the boat mistakenly wandering into the test area, rather the test proved to produce a larger explosion and confirmation than originally thought. The ongoing problem was Conti instead fish especially tuna. Read the arrival in the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists. Good read
Godzillas revenge is the only correct answer!
Hell no lol
🤮
I remember when everyone was moaning how bad Godzilla 2014 is. I think it's the best American version of the big G. Just look at the trailer of the new GxK. Im a big Gman fan but the trailer looks so bad...
I have very fond memories of seeing Godzilla 2014 in theaters, but it loses everything when you watch it at home now. Typical dialogue, bad characters, effects that don't look as good.
Agreed gxk looks very cartoony.
@@bushidoblues9302 Agree. Characters were poor but not as poor as in following Godzilla movies. The best 21st century Godzilla is Minus One. It blew me away in almost every aspect. Very good drama, very good effects, horror like moments and rich characters.
You sound lazy
I'm sorry.
Shin Godzilla is an overrated piece of crap. Besides the evolution gimmick, it's such a boring watch.
I mean we all have our favorites dont we, shin used to be my top favorite then minus one came along.
@@d_franco4702 That's completely fair. Shin came out in 2016 and not until 2020 (when I watched it) people were clamoring it was the “best Godzilla film”. Imo it has some of the dumbest human interactions especially compared to Minus One.
Even so, Minus One has nearly identical plot beats to Jaws. Either way, seeing Godzilla at sea was refreshing and something Shin lacked imo.
Shin Godzilla was about the Confucian paralysis of the Japanese government. Godzilla is almost an afterthought.
Seems like you didn't understand the film
@@tikhongilson3770 it seems like every time there's a monster attack in Tokyo the films point fun at poor political hierarchy and/or gov tumbling like a tower.
Fans of SG claim it's “the first time Godzillas faced unnecessary pain - bleed” which is false lore wise + it's entire existence is a personification of pain/suffering 😆
