Amanda the Jedi did a great break down of how he kept listening to Martha’s messages is because she validated him in certain messages. She saw him for who he wanted to be seen as and he needed that validation when he was down in life
I also saw it as, he knew her every move and emotions for awhile and once he was cut off from that he used the voicemails to sooth the anxiety of not knowing.
Dude... That was literally said in the show, by Donnie and Teri, like THREE TIMES... Word by word.
Piers Morgan’s Uncensored interview with Fiona Harvey, real life Martha
I believe that sometimes the relationship between a victim and their abuser is not all black and white. Darien is very good at grooming and manipulating. Donny is very emotionally broken. I feel like he wanted to confront his abuser but then ended up falling into the same cycle of believing him, and needing him to to believe in himself to. And when he left that sort of got to him. His rational side was probably going like WTF has just happened? So, so complex.
Thank you for watching and reacting.
My dad, a therapist, said its a common pattern. Some see it as a "get back on the horse after being thrown" thing. That they get a bit of distance and healing and feel compelled to put themselves in a situation to prove they are better Whether to themselves, to their abuser, or to *motions vaguely* the cosmos. Or new potential abusers.
Recovery is a process.
Some do it as a compulsion of self loathing when anything is going good in their life.
To be in control of the destruction rather than chance being blindside by pain again.
All of the above. I wish more people could understand this 😕
The fact that his dad was trying to be sweet and supportive at the train station, but he still sounded aggressive anyway gets me.
The dad is low-key the best character
Stole what I was going to say. The best!
The scene with his father made me tear up.
Bless his parents' reaction.
And ugh, this world...
This episode made me cry
Honestly when he spoke about being assaulted to his parents
I cried alot
When I told my parents that I was assaulted they took the side of the assaulter (my own brother)
I was devastated I didn't get the same reaction
This series has been amazing
And I have to say the police are even worse here in Australia for male victims
Love your work brother ❤️
🫂❤️
i think people who were hurt like richard feel like they're finally heard after watching this show. your reactions are really great and just how i reacted with this show. you were right with how people misunderstood the show and its message by attack the real life martha. i appreciate your very real and mature reactions!
I cannot express how much I appreciate your thoughts in your outro! I truly appreciate the depth of your commentary post-watch. I never thought of it as us potentially being part of a new chapter of this story but that is so valid. I had tried to avoid watching the interview with the so-called RL Martha, out of respect for Richard Gadd's wish for us not to look for the RL people but I did end up watching it and felt exactly what you described but hadn't yet found the right words for that. Also, after watching the interview, where the two were *really* hanging their hats on the "this is a true story" part of the show and taking that so very literally, it is refreshing to hear you address the fictionalized part and how that doesn't necessarily take away from it being being *true*. Like, reassuring that I'm not the only one who can understand that the narrative liberties taken don't take away from it being true. At any rate, I found you through this show and will definitely be checking out more of your reactions! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this absolutely amazing, one-of-a-kind show!
Unfortunately the real Martha has been found and shes doing an interview with Piers Morgan. Gadd had asked that nobody try to find her, but you know the internet 😢 I feel horrible that he has to defend himself all over again.
oh god not Piers :(
@AdamfromFWCI Exactly! He would be the one out of everyone to take her interview though 🙄🙄🙄 the picture I saw of them together he didn't look exactly comfortable next to her though, so I wonder if the interview was not what he expected 😬
She exposed herself ...afaik . But to be honest i dont understand why somene would give her any attention.
Liked your commentary during these series, you're really funny 😊
Came across your channel by chance and love your personality and the airplane shirt 😂 +1 subscriber🤝🏻
I couldnt react to Airplane! because I've seen it a billion times. But.... i did react to Zero Hour, which is the black and white film that Airplane! is a direct parody of.
If you've never seen it, check out my reaction, its one of the craziest things i've watched
Really enjoyed watching your reaction to this series ❤
Apparently the real life ''Martha'' is going to have an interview with Peirs Morgan at some point this week
The real life Martha is having an interview with piers Morgan tomorrow. It'll be on youtube for free. You should have a look at it. I'm definitely interested to see what she's like in person 🤔
But then you'd have to watch Piers Morgan. 🤮
Eek! Will watch once the kiddo is asleep.
You were right with the timing. 😆
당신의 리액션이 좋습니다
귀엽고 호감가는 외모 웃는 얼굴이 너무 좋습니다 ㅎㅎ
채널 더욱 성장하시길 바라겠습니다 ♥
Personally i think he went to his abusers house to confront him but his trauma response took over. Its called fawning. He does it alot...basically making yourself seem small and innocent and agreeable. Its a defense mechanism thats also associated with your fight or flight response. It just kinda happens. I do it when im feeling intimidated or scared too, out of my control. I usually dont realize im doing it until im thinking about it in retrospect.
I really enjoyed your reaction and commentary to this show. It’s such a wild ride. If you’re looking for other insane true stories to react to, you should check out “Dont f**k with cats”
Ok but antelope adrenaline would probably do some serious shit to you. They're so scared.
The english justin timberlake😂
You can see it too, right? Lol
have you heard martha is having an interview soon shes come out to have her say
Netflix are still going with its a true story! Have you watched the piers morgan interview with fiona harvey?
yes i did, Piers is the worst and nobody should have given her that platform. But what a train wreck of a situation
About Darrien.
Like you, I thought it implied like this project on Netflix might have come about.
I have to wonder if Darrien might not have recognized himself in Donny's show. If he filtered it through the artist lens or even his own experience being groomed.
He wouldnt be the first grapist to think they just had a cosenting relationship. That Donny could have left at anytime. That cant be intimate without being intoxicated. To put everything in a disassociative badket of "oh, man, I was so wasted. I dont even remember what we did."
This is one way to ook at it.
Another is tgat hes cofirtable with being a predator and gets off on the transactional comtrol.
Perhaps some Keep your enemies close tupe of thing. Since Donny dod not name him, yet.
Or a bit of both.
Or I could be wrong and its something I haven't thought of.
Sadly, being out is still hard for so many. My town is very proud that they passed a law that landlords can discriminate against people based on sexuality.
I helped run a youth LGBTQ here and got death & grape threats, vandiism, and a visit from chid protective services.
We are having our third Pride Parade this year.
Its been a huge learning curve for me. A middle-aged cis woman who grew up with lots of LGBTQ representation and acceptance around. In my family and because I was in a big city working in industries with lots of representation. Even our parrish was doing partnership blessings in the church before gay marriage was legal.
So I did not realize this level of backwardness was still a thing.
The event in the series take pace abut 10 years ago. And the character is from a smaller northern town then moved to London.
Also some of the cages are mental. Some of the judgements are internal. Not society's.
Edit: oops tjis was fully meant in response to another coent thread on another video, but I am going to leave it. Might help the algorithm & might be the universes sayig soeone else needs to see this at sometime.
Maybe that's woo woo. Or I am just too lazy. 😆
In anycase. I have had three men reach out to me since watching this series about getting help for their SA trauma. So I do think people find comments, messages, and words when they need them.
Perhaps this(the show) will spawn a me too movement for men and their mental health needs. ❤
I do think that the deal that he made was to make the Netflix show that’s why he can’t name the name of the guy who SA him and they made it more about her which I found strange she was crazy but Darien is worse
The more I learn about this real situation the more I realise how innacurate it is. So who knows if this even resembles the truth
@@AdamfromFWCI that’s the thing I feel like this Gadd guy is desperate for fame and attention so we don’t know what’s real
I dunno if its fair to say he's "desperate for fame and attention", since its his job, his goal should be fame and attention, I don't think he's some kind of narcissistic sociopath who just wants attention.
I think he was a bit tone deaf by using a real persons emails in a comedy show without their permission in the first place, and its just become worse and worse in terms of being comfortable with sharing that info. Now he has a global platform, and with no surprise he's hit the wall hard
