  • OK, this could easily be a list of 20 or even 40. It wasn't an easy task. Already I’m forcing myself not to change some.
A strange decade for westerns, many sub genres popping up, a mixed bag! These are my top 10 but not ranked. That would be a near impossible task for me. Let me know your list in the comments.

The '70's were a strange time for Westerns. Little Big Man is indeed a great one, no doubt (the book is even more fun). The Outlaw Josey Wales is one of my favorites and Chief Dan George is a joy to watch in it. Blazing Saddles is in a category all by itself, one of the funniest movies ever made, seen it over and over. Bruce Dern's performance in The Cowboys is the highlight of the film. The Shootist, Jeremiah Johnson, and Man in the Wilderness are all worth the watch for sure. Thanks, Wrangler.

Hard to choose a list of Top ten westerns of the 70s. You gotta great list for sure. There's two that would absolutely be in my top ten westerns of the 70s. 'Lawman', 1971, starring Burt Lancaster, and, 'The White Buffalo ', 1977, starring Charles Bronson.

I know Westworld wasn’t a western, but Yul Brenner as the gunslinger android was terrifying.

Good list, for me personally missing is Chatos Land, the underrated Valdez is coming and the untypical Nevada Pass.
My favorite for 70s is Jeremiah Johnson!

Great list. I would add McCabe and Mrs. Miller. Little Big Man, Outlaw Josie Wales and Jeremiah Johnson were three of my all time favourites.

Good list. I always thought that Return of a Man called Horse was superior to the original. A Gunfight 1971, like all good westerns a morality play. Ballard of Cable Hogue 1970, Peckinpah's superior 70s effort.

Nice list. Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid may be your favorite. Too bad it is so inaccurate. I preferred Young Guns version.. although also not totally accurate. Overall, I enjoy your western videos.

So many movies that are inspired by a true story usually always add content or differ from total authenticity in order to elevate the entertainment value.
Personally, that's my favorite James Coburn movie, I love his portrayal as Pat Garrett and I can't think of anybody that's played that character better. However, it's not my favorite Kristofferson movie. That would be a western titled 'The Tracker'. Check it out if you haven't already.

I totally disagree with your pick of a little big man.Destin Hoffman was a lo.Usy actor for that role.He should never have been in that role

Enough, tried for 5 minutes, couldn't take the double dialogue, not worth the effort to interpret.
