Estonia Prepares For Russian Invasion | My Neighbour, Russia

With the precedent of the war in Ukraine, Estonia lives in fear of being attacked in its turn. Thousands of Estonian civilians, via the Estonian Defense League, are preparing to counter a dreaded invasion. So the country barricades itself, trains its troops and tears itself apart from its Russian-speaking minority. It has even called on robotics and artificial intelligence to defend itself with hybrid weapons.

It's unreal how similar Estonian and Finnish sound to a person who speaks neither.
Finno-Ugric tribes. First peoples of Scandinavia after the glaciers receded from Northern Europe.
Lithuanian and Latvian are almost as simmilar sounding
As an Estonian who hasn't ever learned Finnish, I can understand some anyway. We and the Finns are very closely related, but still completely different. If that makes any sense.

@@nikolabakich9709 I've noticed that when listening to Serbian or Polish that some words are familiar from Russian. I can't understand 70% of Finnish, I'd say it's more like 20%, but I mostly get the point of what they're saying.
As a Finn, I think the best way to describe how close we are with Estonians is the fact that both countries have the same national anthem, just with different lyrics.
Ah, thanks brother (from Norway). I was confused for a moment (as our "King's Song" has the same melody as the British national anthem, so I thought it might be something similar going on).

ESTONIA WHAT IS THAT ???? 1 MILLION population what f joke hahahahah ! half are working in Germany and other half in Russia hahahahahahaahahahaha irrelevent dwarfs
I can't wait for the day the Germans want their land back.
Translation is in some places very wrong and gives a wrong message. Even the motto "elaguesti" is wrong. Its ELAGU EESTI!! Long live Estonia.
The translation is horrid, fucking French
I just wanted to point these 2 things out that translations are way off and elaguesti is actually elagu eesti 😃
i agree the subtitles doesent match what the estonians are saying at all.
The translations are very generalised or stylised to sound more personal or dramatic. I wouldn't mind this in a more fantasy or story style production, but this feels like more of a documentary, which I think should be more truthful and mimic the sources.
There are so many comments about “haha such a small country.. or small army.. “ like this is the reason, why Estonia or other smaller free nations have no right to exist… I hope these comments are bot comments, as whoever thinks, that size provides rights to invade or dictate - should look into their soul. If soul is absent - beware, and read history.
Yes, that is a typical Russian attitude: you are so small that is even funny that you exist. This is an idiotic attitude. Would you for example tell a short person that he/she has less right to exist? Stupid people think in stupid ways, we cannot change it anyway.
ESTONIA WHAT IS THAT ???? 1 MILLION population what f joke hahahahah ! half are working in Germany and other half in Russia hahahahahahaahahahaha just like other baltic irrelevent dwarfs roflmao
I hope these 'bots' consider what it's taken for smaller states like this to still even exist. And I'm not only referring here to colonial era powers here trying to take hold in here but like as recently as within the past 10- 15 years certain Europeans such as Marine Le Pen have very vocally shared sentiments such as the Baltics should either federalize or these states should otherwise not exist at all... so the risks and threats are still very much there.
Need on vene botid.
It is typical bully mindset that the bigger one is allowed to suppress the supposedly smaller one.
Imagine living 7 years in a foreign country and not learning the language.
And then think about tens of thousands who accomplished same feat but 40+ years ..
True. It doesn't have to be fluent and learning the basic is sufficient enough.
There are tens of thousands of Russian speakers who do not know basic Estonian and who have lived here since WWII. It our own, the Estonians" fault. We make it very easy for them, so they do not have to. One can get Russian service in all hospitals, government offices, libraries, everything. And most Russians take it for granted. They just come in and say "Zdrastje" (Hallo in Russian, and just start speaking Russian. And 99% of Estonians will speak Russian to them. It WILL change as we have less and less people who know Russian. Russian is no longer a compulsory foreign language in schools (no foreign language in estonian education system is compulsory. There are A, B and C foreign languages. A one starts in 1 or 2 grade, B in 6 grade and C in high schools. And there may be additional languages available in different schools. What those languages will be, is up to the students (in real life, schools, because the students may choose German for example , but the school may not have the teacher for it. But the point is, most students nowadays do not choose Russian. So young Estonians simply do not know Russian anymore. It was forced upon us for so long that now most people want to get as far away from it as possible. And soon the Russians living here just have to know Estonian to live everyday lives. Not to mention getting a normal job. So I would not worry, it will all happen naturally. Unless, of course, Russia will want to swallow us again. But this time we will be really really ready and I do not think it is going to happen. As long as we are ready, of course. To avoid war here, we constantly have to be very ready for it.
Imagine living in a "foreign" country all your life: being born there, living there, finishing HS there, working there (opportunities: learning language in school, practicing with other kids in kindergarten & school or as adult in workplace), yet still not knowing a single word )or only few very basic sentences...which is the level so many of these russians living there have) in the language of the country you live in. THIS is the reality in Estonia/Baltics, and Ukraine, and all countries on rus border, which were under rus occupation since WW2. Even kids/teens/young people (who were born after all these countries regained independence) do not often know the local languages. To me it seems wild, but that is the situation in many of these places.
The kids & grandkids of those who were moved there from elsewhere in soviet union (cause rus tactic is to kill/imprison local ethnicities & replace them with own people...hence rus-speaking workforce brought to these places between 1950-1990) have lived there all Their lives. Yet they have no interest to learn local language, to integrate. This is why I support ending all rus language education in all these countries...cause learning local language as "second language" does not work...they do not learn. The only way to integrate them is to integrate them since birth...so kindergartens, schools, workplaces...services to people (doctor, library, store) only in local language. I know that a majority of these russian in these countries do not want to learn local languages, integrate...but there should be only two choices: either you become a citizen or you move to a country your heart belongs to (in their case its terrorussia). These people in my eyes are foreign agents & all these countries are letting them live there, and not integrate, and not become full citizens (but they often have the option to vote at local elections!), and support the invading neighbour. I cannot understand how they are not seen as security threat. I cannot understand why they are not sent across the river...to live in the country their heart actually belongs to & wishes to be in.
I cannot imagine not knowing the language of the country I live in, Neither did my grandparents. Neither do most people, who have moved (freely or have ended up elsewhere as refugees) to a different country.
Imagine celebrating new year in Tallinn with local time 23:00 on the 31.12 and the reason is because person’s clock is on Moscow’s time. Literally local russian speaking community celebrate new year’s 1h prior estonians because putin is
Those who are insulted about the removal of a russian statue in Estonia or so proud of their russian heritage should move to russia.
Its quite common for russians to be an arrogant sob's. They want everything while giving back nothing. "We are proud russians but dont want yo live in russia, we want EU life quality, but dont respect the locals" thats why no one like them thats the so called "russiophobia". Act like villans and then are surprised by dislike to their actions.
Whats the difference between Russian or Jewish? Chinese or Japanese? or American or Mexican? NON.If you have little knwoledge than you should stick from commenting online. Most Russians who live in baltic state are citizens, people who dont want war or conflict, but they have rights as well and they will be offended when someone tries to destroy their culture, because its them who pay taxes, its them who are keeping Estonia running, its them and their parents and grandparents who defended the country and gave their lives to fight Nazis, so who has right to destroy the history and culture?. Im from Latvia myself, i love my country and want it to be bigger and better than what it is now, but im also proud that im Russian who lives there. Currently i moved to Estonia and i see lots of showoff and propaganda to make money and turn people away from real problem. The war in Ukraine is not ours, its should stay between Russia and Ukraine because Ukraine decided to make stupid moves few years ago and now simple citizens are strugling. Prices go up, spendings are increasing, problems are touching every industry. Its ok for Britts or Yankies as they live far away from conflict borders, but this shit is touching us, the ones who live near it. So keep your mouth shut and dont speak about someone offended if you dont know the history.
Well said. And these are the same people that stated @11:10 "We are grateful and proud that the Russians have allowed us to have peace over our heads." Be wary of any "peace that the Russians have allowed."

This is very lazy journalism, to the point of being damaging. They came already with the story in their heads, and they didn't bother to actually listen. For example, the images in the streets of Tallinn showing bombed out parts are from an art project that has been very controversial. Estonians are not joining "more and more paramilitary groups"; there is only one, Kaitseliit, and it's run by the Ministry of Defence (it's also an organization with more than 100 years of history, btw).

I live in south of Estonia not far from the boarder and luckily we don't have that many Russians here. A few yes but the southerners are a bit more hostile to Russian patriotism. We have many reasons and one of course is the Soviet oppression, Putin's war and the Russians fleeing to Estonian but still supporting Russia.
Also Estonia has become even more hostile towards Russia because only a few days ago all Russians in Estonia had to give their guns away either to the police, another gun owner or gift them to a gun club.

slaves never fight as well as Free People
There are about one hundred slaves in russia to every free person in Estonia. Russians have fought all their countless wars without caring about human life and the number of their dead/wounded cannon fodder. russia never changes. The only language it's able to understand is brutal military force.
@@antisoviet6786Except that Russia's population demographic is overwhelmingly getting old. Far more old folk than young, and with the war in Ukraine, that scale is scewed more and more each day. Its a slowly dying nation, both on political and population fronts.

As an American it's bizarre to see another country with militias. I guess when I think of access to guns I do not think of Europe or more northern lands.
We have guns and shooting culture everywhere here in Norway, Sweden is similar, probaly Finland too. We just dont brag about it.
The Kaitseliit are not private Militias. This is a Government Militia of both volunteers and mandated reservists, similar to Finland or in days of old, Switzerland(who has of recent lobotomise their military into a joke). Any private militia here would be a national security risk as they could be backed and used by russia.
The closest thing to this in America would be how centuries ago you had militia in some parts of America which were mandatory to be in and were government forces. But here the Kaitseliit is better funded to have regular army weapons and equipment. (Most armour and the artillery remains in the regular military due to our too small population and limited money.)
Those ''militia'' guys have access to LMT's R20 rifles which are standard issue for estonian army so i think those guns are provided by the government for their training. In Finland we have a active reservists who have completed their conscription in the army, who train on their free time and people buy their own kits and even ''reservist'' self loading rifles but cant buy machine guns. Its a common misconception in the US that European civilians don't have access to firearms. If i remember correctly you can even get a CCW licenses in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Chechia. Some countries have barrel length and mag size restrictions for rifles like in some US states, but here in Finland you can get standard mags and a shorter than 16'' barrel AR-15 for example pretty easily and silencers are a no hassle.
Very very few Estonians have guns. I do not think our police carries guns even, I"m not sure. I think guns are kept in teh safe in the police station and to take it with you there must be a specific reason. Maybe I am wrong but this is what I know. Never much thought about it because, as I said,. we have zero interest in guns here
The Army National Guard is adequate comparison in US context

I moved from Russia to Estonia. I want to get citizenship. I might look how can I help to defend the country if russian forces will invade it too. I'm a decent pilot in games and have a personal drone I can't fly legally because of sanctions.
I hope you will also learn Estonian. I mean, properly learn it, not just enough to get by. We have amazing culture, theatre, literature etc. There is so much to enjoy that one completely misses out on if he/she speaks the language maybe only on B2 level. Unfortunately, most Russians here live in their own parallel world. I do not think I have ever seen a Russian person in theatre in Estonia, for example. Ever. Last week, March 14 we had the Day of Estonian language. I went to a concert of Estonian music and poetry. And it was very surprising for me that there were a few Russians there. Did not expect it. They were probably there for one of the two reasons: it was free, or they were friends/relatives of some of the choir members who were Russian.
@@user-zy1vp2sw9c Well, a language is something you learn as you go. If you get B1/B2, you just keep progressing further and further by speaking to people. That's how I learned English, but it was easier because almost everyone speaks English, and the Internet is mostly English-speaking, while Estonian is very narrow in comparison. Still going to try to learn, but man it is very hard and stressful. I didn't get proper rest for 2 months because of the cources.

What happens to this, that this year rmk and private forest owners are planning to cut down that many trees, that there will be over 800 truck loads of wood exported? What happens to us after that?
What invasion?
Russian invasion.
What what invasion?
Strange question, like you just got internet for the first time. The news is: we're at war. All of the world already, war waged against progress, democratic and rules-based systems everywhere. It's called hybrid-war. If it expands or escalates, two most likely NATO countries to be invaded physically are Latvia and Estonia by Russia. NATO clause 5 and resources is the _only_ deterrant for now. Russia already invaded minds, media and senate in the US to stop fulfilling it's obligations against Ukraine, and fascist allies are pushing hard to do the same against NATO charter and alliance to the accepted countries needing protection the most, like Baltic states. It's not a speculation, it's intelligence-backed and geopolitical logic if you know the region.
Knowing Kremlin's methodics, another confirmation that it is planned sometime in the future is Putins words that he "doesn't want" to invade Baltic states, in the exact same way he said the same about Ukraine on multiple occasions up till 2022 itself.
We're already under attack in other ways. Russia's previously occupied (especially already partly under occupation like Georgia, Moldova and in other way other neighbours) non-NATO countries might be fully invaded first, nobody can tell the order. Just that if Ukraine falls, it's just a first step towards Russia's goals. We know they won't stop because of the ideology of the regime and its dumb
/fascist supporters. We know it because they allways had that ambition. The women who said "we're not at war, they are" think like Russia's useful-idiot, like they wouldn't know the score or pretend not to. People like that is all it takes for WW3 to happen physically, they're traitors.
This is pretty weak take by JP, very shallow and for people not from the region might be confusing. Also everywhere Russia or its neighbours are mentioned you can see the proof of hostile intentions from Kremlin-sponsored horde of paid bots commenting, easy to pick out. Now there are people who agrees to said szcizo-fascist paid bots and like mindless sheep repeats it - and becomes the soft power weapon of any country from the autocratic axis. It's not a discussion, it's a fight. Everything is weaponised, this is just the beginning. Wake up and learn the situation, i can give you sources: there is a lot.
Invasion that seems pretty likely to come, as it has happened before.
