The difference between a part seller & a real mechanic
Checking wiring is key these days and is a reasonable check. Pulling sensor is a good good choice.
Did I hear you say that she bought the part from Autozone and *Autozone* installed the part?
What people don’t understand when you get a code, it could be several different problems besides the sensor. The trouble code is to give you a clue as where to start testing.
For those of you out there who believe a mechanic just reads codes then install the part, you are sadly mistaken.
If you install a new part without doing any further testing and inspection to prove what the problem is, then you would be wasting your money.
There are several videos online with P0340 that have nothing to do with the cam sensor itself. Different car, different problem!
Do you even know what the camshaft position sensor reads ??
If the ECU trips the cam pos sensor, that means its NOT see'ing cam rotation, either bad sensor or bad wiring between the sensor and the ecu.
If the ECU trips an O2 sensor and says its lean, do you think thats a bad O2 sensor ?? Could be but could also be something else that is making the O2 sensor read lean ... But most would replace that O2 sensor to find thats NOT the issue.
Cam sensor ONLY reads cam rotation, NOTHING ELSE
@@ACommenterOnCZcams I have a video with P0340 and it was definitely not the CMP. Other professionals posted about the P0340 and it was a bad coil. Mine was coolant intrusion through the ECT wiring and had water and corrosion in the PCM connector.
@@jacksautorepair Just to add that not all cam sensors read the "cam" directly, some are put in the distributor and read the rotation of the distributor which is connected to the cam via other sprocket.

I did same thing....ended up being bad wires on my connector to my cam sensor...undid factory tape and found broken wire and melted wire...fixed easy.
the code helps point you to an issue - always physically check wiring

Part 2, where the tone wheel just falls off while changing the timing belt.
The most common thing to do is SWAP the part out but NOBODY ever thinks that it can be the actual wiring between the sensor and the ECU ...
While thats a RARE ocassion, it DOES happen.
Looks similar to the engine that they put in the eagle premier
Neon lost the cam sensor and it wouldn't start, unplug the sensor and it would take about 10 turns then it would start. When the crank sensor went intermittent as it got warm it would freak out and run bad and die. I replaced it with a used one and it was fine till it died, 95 Neon. At least when the cam one went out you could unplug it and take forever to start like the Charger you have but it would run.
Ima manager at Autozone and trust me I explain to people that the part it’s suggesting is just that a suggestion and it literally says “ Most Likely Solution” and I always recommend they talk to a mechanic first before purchasing any parts but most customers don’t listen and buy it anyways
My experience with autozone has been the same. I always tell people that if autozone employees knew what they were talking about they wouldn’t be working at autozone
