Well some people think that the red gas makes you sleep but it's not, Which means if the smiling critters breathe the cats red gas and you laugh makes you death
Like the smiling critters wants catnap to them sleep then red gas comes at catnaps mouth
I think the most scariest thing about this besides the ending with all the smiling critters laughing and then suddenly on the floor “asleep” while Catnap sits there is the fact their faces were all normal before he showed up. When they were talking about the wind being scary, their faces were emoting normally while cartoonish. But once Catnap showed up with their big ol creepy smile, the others followed too and ended up looking like him. All the way to them being “asleep”….chilling
I feel like the reason they smile that way in the end is because they are secretly afraid of Catnap and dont want to disobey him

The ending with them all going insane and laughing when Cat Nap let out the gas to put them to sleep is true Poppy Playtime horror at peak well done for making the scene the true definition of nightmares.

The way Catnap sends out a red gas, making everyone laugh maniacally, before everyone lays down like lifeless shells, with Catnape looking directly at the screen, has to be one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen in a cartoon. Like, Jesus Christ!!! 😨😨😰
Also the fact that thus foreshadows how dogday dies is a good concept and not a lot of people noticed

Okay- it started off so wholesome, this vhs symbolizes a lot. Like how kids have fears and when they go to sleep they know they avoid it- but still catnap smiling in the end while the others were literally “sleeping” sent a chill down my spine. Well done Mob games.
To take poppy playtime with having a hard time keeping up with the other horror game progress. They started a short chapter 1 of huggy Wuggy, continued the store with a longer chapter 2 with a few more characters added into the mix, Play the spin off game called project playtime (A multiplayer experience game), I know thanks to the creation of the smiling critters chapter 3 verse to be a part of and then poppy playtime will get the weed turn it’s been waiting for. You took a lot of hard work into making these characters didn’t you? We’re so proud of you! Excellent work Mob Games! Keep up the amazing work!Your the legends!

The scary part is how it started out so wholesome and seemed so realistic, like it could be an actual child TV show, and by the time you realize that, Catnap already shows up and everything escalates!
Imagine you come across a child show on TV and decide to check it out because it looks cute and wholesome, maybe you even consider telling your child or little sibling about this show, and then the show suddenly turns into pure, unapologetic nightmare fuel!
Like Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
It gives me the same kinda energy as something like Candled cove, where it’s something kids would watch and it would be down right unsettling, and you’d remember it later in life only to find out it never existed…

What really resonated with me in this is it has a lot to do with nighttime fear as a kid and the feeling that you will be safe from things your afraid of if you just fall asleep.
I can't wait for this chapter, it's going to be amazing. I like how dark this entire thing is, I was unnerved.
This man's entrance is SO COLD (0:44) and everything that follows afterwards, with the poppy gas is horrifying. Catnap is going to be a good main antagonist, I can't wait to see their debut in Chapter 3.

Ok am starting to think I know why Catnap was removed from the Smiling Critters lineup. This tv show episode is probably why. Parents probably saw the part where Catnap was spraying the gas and freak out and demanded Playtime Co to recall and remove Catnap from the show and toy line. Mob game is going full throttle on the creepy and horror aspects with this chapter. Also this guys, playtime co’s equivalent to the Care Bears. Not even going to question it.

For once this actually gave me a bit a the creeps.
Just by watching this, the gas mask that was seen in the first teaser trailer will definitely be a mechanic for when dealing with the monster/Catnap.
What creeps me out is not the transition from laughs to absolute silence or Catnap itself, is the fact that they felt asleep SMILING

Is this like a metaphor for drug addiction? It could also be a nod to the whole “cult” thing they’ve been hinting at in the teasers and trailers. Cat Nap is the one they all look up to, to bring them joy and comfort. Not realizing that he might actually he hurting them and will turn on them in the end, and doesn’t actually have their best interests at heart. Goddamn, this is good! It’s so cute, and reminds me of those old 80’s cartoons. If this isn’t the official intro, then I’ll be so mad!

Not to mention the Elephant asks nervously if Catnap can put them to sleep and the kids drawings say how Catnap gave the kids nightmares. So maybe the Smiling Critters are fake smiling because they are afraid of Catnap and what he will do to them may be a stretch.

the other smiling critters are very scared of Catnap and know that they must always smile when in his presence otherwise they know he will tear them all to shreds
so that might mean that Catnap is the somewhat leader of the critters

It says " This is what he does to heretics " And the monster shown look like a hazmat suite and you can see the face of Catnap and what seem to be other eyes. Not to mention the fingers look like those Boxy Boo and you and see what seem to be sewing and duct tape. My theory is that if the toys did not obey Catnap they would all be sewn together as one amalgamation of something that could barley be known as human and they would rather inhale highly potent gas then get turned into that. Also more on the amalgamation theory but the head kinda looks like a gas mask. If which makes sense because they seem to be wearing a hazmat suite. Also the environment looks like a prison which would be the perfect place Catnap would throw these toys into. I feel like sometime in the game we will get thrown into this prison and have to escape this amalgamation. But that just my theory

This gives me the impression of a cult that worships the concept of sleep. It’s scary, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this cartoon (while adding in creep factor) was made to brainwash the kids of the Playcare orphanage to WANT the sleep formula. Basing on this though…maybe it was TOO effective…(also, I know Catnap is sitting on the couch, but it’s be funny if in the cartoon, he steals a gallon of milk before leaving the others asleep, like a payment).
Theory: This episode of Smiling Critters had to be BANNED because it was said from adults around the world that it creeps their children out, and then the smiling critter toys had to be discontinued because it was making adults highly uncomfortable because of their gaping open mouth, even the cat was the most disturbing one.

Like another comment mentioned, it could be a possibility that the red gas functions like a sleeping drug that slowly causes one to become addicted to it. This is often the case for when someone overdoses on a drug that either was or wasn't prescribed to them, and it can cause serious issues with completing everyday activities *(sleep is one example).* This is seen with the characters as they can't sleep and are begging Catnap to help them do so. The reason why the Smiling Critters are seen laughing as the red gas fills the room is likely because they're horrified with the situation of never being able to break free from the addiction, and it's comical to them in a very dark manner. That or they could've just outright lost their sanity.
Edit: I also just realized one thing; remember the second trailer where we see Catnap mention that he has a "somniferous flock"? It could be him referring to the other Smiling Critters as his followers. Plus, he's inducing sleep on the other critters, which seems to show that this is likely the flock he was referring to.

I love chapter 3 so much more now because of this. In the trailer before anyone knew who "catnap" was, he looked like a big beast to me and then I saw razzbowski post catnap standing at the door and smiling on X. Catnap is an amazing concept of an antagonist. I didn't know the "smiling critters" was a thing until someone talked about it and showed the VHS of all the characters dying from the red gas. I absolutely love Poppy Playtime even MORE now.

The fact Catnap acts here emotionless making them look like a machine or something. I mean they literally show zero emotions and only having that empty abyssful mouth and those lifeless eyes. It went viral on Twitter, a eliminated character was an Ant, whose function would be to protect or cure orphans. Which seems very good to me, it's a shame they eliminated it because Kissy Missy would take this role in chapter 3. Of course, having 9 stuffed animals and the 9 having a center between the 8 (JoyToy would take the role of being the center) but hey, I would have loved to see that ant🖤

Poppy playtime gets darker and darker each chapter. First we find out experiments were being done. Second we find out that they've been killing children to do the experiments. And now we found out how they did it. Poppy play times getting really dark. I'm really excited for the third chapter to come out.

I dont think Catnap is mute I just think he chooses to not talk for whatever reason. Likely because of the Prototype given he worships him. He also may not talk because its a way to intimidate his prey but I could be wrong.
