First Climber on Denali in 2022 | Matthias Rimml's Tragic Climb

  • On April 30th, 2022, Matthias Rimml was climbing in the wet snow and shivering cold, 18,200 feet high on North America’s tallest peak, Denali. It was still early in the year for the North American climbing season, which meant that Matthias was the first registered mountaineer to kick off the season and the only person currently on the peak. All seemed to be going well as Matthias had regular check-ins with a friend stationed at base camp. But then a day went by with no contact… followed by more days…and then….nothing….This is the story of Matthias Rimml.

If I may ask an odd question, are you related to Edward, whose channel is Behind Criminal Minds? Both of your voices are extremely similar, so I am just curious. The narrator repeatedly confuses meters with feet. For example, at 5:16, he says, "There would be nobody past the 14,000 meter mark." Well, I would certainly hope not, given that 14,000 meters would put someone at the height of 45,921 feet -- or roughly 16,000 feet higher than Everest! And again at 5:31, the narrator refers to Kahiltan Glacier Base Camp being "at 7,200 meters." That would be an altitude of 23,622 feet, more than 3,000 feet higher than Denali itself, the summit of which is 20,310 feet!
This kind of inexcusable sloppiness with regard to obvious details makes one question whether ANYTHING in this video can be trusted!

You said he averaged 700,000 meters of altitude in winter, and 200,000 meters of altitude in summer. The total was then 900,000 meters of altitude, per year. The word "altitude", means the vertical distance above sea level. If you climb up a vertical ladder 10 meters, then you have increased your altitude by 10 meters. So, altitude means vertical distance. 900,000 meters divided by 365 days per year, equals 2,466 meters. He therefore averaged climbing vertically, 2,466 meters, or 8,090 feet, every single day of the year. I guess there are people who would believe that!! 🥹 😅 😂 🤣

    • @QuiltedZero12

In the video he uses "meters" eight times, and he uses "feet" four times, so how is it obvious? 😅 He pinned a comment in which he said, "I made a mistake at 7:58 stating Meters when it should have been Feet." If he "obviously means" "700,000 feet", and "200,000 feet", then why didn't he also indicate those two mistakes? 😂 It took me far too many words? Who says, the great you? 😂 And even if he did mean feet, then Matthias would still have to average climbing vertically, 2,466 feet, every single day of the year. That is 17,261 vertical feet per week, 52 weeks consecutively. Let me know when someone can do that. 😂 Since you are apparently an expert on elevation, tell me what the elevation change is for Mt. Everest from bottom to top. 🤣 Finally, it's much easier to criticize than to create, right "ThatOne21"?! 😀
