- Antiadrenergic/ Sympatholytic agents inhibit the activity of epinephrine and norepinephrine. They are primarily postsynaptic adrenergic receptor antagonists (alpha and beta adrenergic receptor antagonists, or "blockers"), inhibiting the downstream cellular signaling pathways of adrenergic receptors.

May be worth mentioning that third-gen beta blockers have a1-antagonist properties as well! And this prevents reflex tachycardia seen with the beta blockade
