Berkowitz is now the leader of a large prison church and regularly councils other inmates. He regularly denies and cancels his own parole hearings feeling he is where he should be. A very interesting turn of events in the story.
I guess at that point, why not make this whole story even crazier. That sounds very creepy, but at the same time cool from his pespective.
His reply to the police when asked who he is saying “I am Sam.” Now that is cold blooded.

@Zuirconuam 6 I hope it is an actual mystery, not keen on the ones where they look for ghosts and demons. Just the true crime and weird unsolved cases. Not likely as I'm sure the boys would rather travel the world than sit in the office.
@@MoXy33 they have different seasons. Some are murder mysteries and things like that and some are ghost hunts.
Considering their last video, I'm going to say that we're in the spooky ghost season.
@@MoXy33 Considering the last season they had was True Crime, then I'd assume that the next season will be the Supernatural aspect. Even if you're not into ghosts and demons and whatnot, then the history of the places they visit and even some of the folklore (such as with the La Llorona episode) can be interesting.
There were 2 dog heroes that helped with capturing the :Son of Sam" One was Harvey. Him getting shot was what put Sam on the radar. (Poor dog, I'm so glad that he survived !!) The other dog hero was Snowball. If that lady hadn't been taking her out for a walk, she would never have seen Sam which lead to the parking ticket clue. Good dogs!!

There is a difference between being clinically insane and criminally insane.
Also, he said it was part of his manipulating the media. He read the papers coverage about him and figured the whole demon-possession thing was a better tale and got off on how the press ate it up. Then, when he was caught it provided a good backstory to keep himself out of the electric chair.

My grand parents worked with him at the post office in the Bronx. My grandma told me he was creepy but my grandfather would always say hi and converse with him because “he just needs friends”. He used to park his car in front of their house which was down the block from the post office they all worked at together. My dad was 15 and said when they caught him and my grandma was like I knew there was something wrong with him, and my grandpa felt so bad for not listening to her.
I love this video purely on the grounds that the narrator stopped to assure us Harvey the dog survived. 10/10 would watch again
This was so well done, as are all of these How They Were Caught episodes. Serious, frightening, yet with humor. Love them. I was new to Manhattan at the time of the Son of Sam murders and remember them well.

Fun fact! Before Berkowitz would head out to shoot people, he would listen to Rich Girl by Hall and Oates to “Pump himself up”. After hearing this, Hall and Oates released a song about the Son of Sam called Diddy Doo Wop, which has the lyric “Charlie liked the Beatles (a reference to Charles Manson’s obsession with the Beatles), Sammy liked Rich Girl (The Son of Sam listening to Rich Girl) and many other lyrics having to do with the infamous killer

My mother told me a story how she would in this time go to the beaches in Long Island (where she is from) in the late 1970’s, and one time her and her friend noticed a guy wearing nice clothes carrying a shoebox going into the dunes and commented to each other how strange that was. Turns out she probably saw son of Sam hunting for his victims.
The regular voice when they used from when he said “I’m sam”.....I cackled

You never really explain what the detail that Davis gave to the police was (4:13). You say she saw that some police officers had been giving out parking tickets, but that doesn't explain why the police would think one of those parking tickets would belong to the murderer.

My grandmother had told me when she and my grandpa when to New York/Jersey, she was so scared, because it was around the time that SOS was around, and she dyed her hair blonde. Not only that, my dad was with them (I think) and he was only two. It's crazy to think that one person could do this. Bless everyone who lost their lives. ♥️
