  • Today we are doing a satisfying sheetrock dust clean up!! Can we start painting yet??! I am using the shopvac to vacuum up all the dust so we can get ready to paint.
Today is an exciting day for the exterior of my fixer upper house!! Jay & I are installing my new DREO porch ceiling fan and it looks amazing! After that, my mom and I are working on cleaning up the pile of stones and building a stone wall!
Hey there! My name is Abby and I recently bought a MAJOR fixer upper house. I am SO excited to work on fixing it up this old house and turning it into my dream home. I can't wait to take you on this journey with me! I am planning to DIY as much as I can and learn so much about home renovations along the way. I am starting out totally clueless so I am sure it will be a grand adventure! Follow along on my channel if you want to see DIY projects, renovating a house on a budget, and I am sure a lot of craziness along the way! I'm just a girl with a drill and a dream.

Hey Abby, the filter gets clogged really easily with sheet rock fine dust which stops the flow. Using a bag in the vacuume really helps but you still need to clean the filter a lot! So proud of all you have done!

LOL. I was kind of yelling, "Did you check the filter?" That dust can clog it up very quickly.

Please save yourself time and energy, use a spryer to paint all that space. You would have to paint some things by hand but using a spryer would make your life so much easier. You have done such a great job! Congratulations 🎉.

A nephew who does sheetrock told me to add a hose to the exhaust port on the shop vac and stick it out the window so any dust that gets past the filter goes out the window and not back into your house. Just a hint from someone who works with that all the time

Once you are all done, have a hidden area like the closet, signing everyone's names that has worked on the house, dated and shellac. That is what we did to some of our previous homes, we signed and dated, covered up with wall paper or inside of a closet. Memories and it would answer who were the people before us that renovated the home. Great job, Abby and Jay!

Suggestion: the door into the bathroom beside the door outside - make these the same wood, or visually it will bug you if they are not the same. Oh and sheet rock? Vacuum, then vacuum, then vacuum and then vacuum. My parents swear buy mopping between vacuuming using one of the old school thread mops that you squeeze in a bucket like janitors used to use. Apparently it helps get more of the dust up in between each vacuum. And yes you will need to empty the bag/ vac a lot.

Shop vacs are very handy. Good for both wet and dry uses, just make sure to have separate filters for each wet and dry vacuuming. Also while sucking up drywall dust you should clean the filter often to prevent it from clogging, ask me how I know lol. Your interior doors are going to be stunning! So exciting for you that things are getting to the "pretty stage" soon.

Hi Abby. Yucky vacuum dust.😅 Check your filter it might need changing or just a good shake and clean. A vacuum for your vacuum!😂 About the floors, I had cupping on my wood floors as well. It’s due to the humidity or sudden changes in temperature. I thought it would be a problem when sanding but the refinishing went well. They use these big drum sanders were very course grit sandpaper or screens and cut through the uneven floor at a diagonal first. Afterward they progress through the grits of sandpaper to finish with a fine paper and smooth floor. It does look nice. If you’re doing completely new floors and there’s an uneven subfloor you might need to add an underlayment first. Just something to think about. 😊
